the moment i first understood the myth of meritocracy i think was when i read the "Eragon" books as a teenager, and it said on the back that the author had started writing them at 15 and it became a bestseller. this stressed me out so much, I also wanted that kind of success in writing at such a young age & kept thinking I should also be able to do it, that I must be doing something wrong – and then YEARS later i found out his parents had a publishing company and financed him touring through the whole U.S before the books became successful

sO I know ppl are tired of cottagecore uwu low conflict fantasy shit but. Listen I have this idea. It's heavily inspired by a minor plot/romance in the game Littlewood where you play as the hero who has saved the world but it's like. Destroyed now and you have to help rebuild it. But also you have amnesia so ur like what the fuck. And then one day the villain who was your arch nemesis and whom you defeated to save the world shows up in the village. And he also has amnesia. And you can kiss and marry him.

And I want to write something that's similarly low stakes and cottagecore and the protag is like this wholesome hero but they also just. Do not remember these people who adore and nearly worship them. Who expect so much from them. Who try to hold them to promises they made when they were a different person. Who expect them to step up and rule this broken world when they don't even know who they are or who they used to be.

And the only other person who truly gets it is their former arch nemesis who feels so painfully familiar but who is treated the exact opposite. Blamed for crimes they don't remember. Hated for things they don't know they did. Kept from getting help and from becoming part of this community. And the only person who treats you with any understanding and compassion is the one who supposedly defeated you, whose power once stripped you of everything you were and left you a husk of your former self.

They're forced to communicate in secret because if ppl found out they were even friends, the villagers might hurt the "villain" because what if they're manipulating the hero with their evil ways? What if they're just bluffing, waiting for a chance to strike? The protag has no idea either, complete trust is hard, but the villain is the only one who gets it so giving up this friendship is absolutely not an option.

And now they both have to like. Live with this shit. Figure out whether they should once again become what everyone thinks they are, chase and reclaim their past, or move forward despite what how hard it will be. AND they are so so horny for each other also. The sexual tension is off the charts. Is this chemistry because they're the only ones who Get It, or because some lizard brain part of their respective brains remember that this person mattered to them, for good or ill? Or was it always there and it never had the chance to flourish before because they were on the opposite sides of a conflict?

Nobody dies in this one and the big battle was over before the story starts and most of the conflict is internal but like. I feel like it's still kind of compelling as an idea. I feel like it can be kinda bittersweet? Idk. I wanna try writing it regardless.
