possible solutions to stano bazhevin being neither married nor unmarried

she gets married to vedero drazhin, as suggested by maia. vedero, for this purpose, is declared to legally be a man but she and stano are barred from adopting anyone. unconventional, but stano now has proper legal status, and since she and vedero cannot produce any legal heirs, any remaining problem will resolve itself within the century without anyone needing to do anything about it

she gets married to ciris drazhar under some sort of emergency provision/necromantic assistance. there's various grounds of exceptions to the whole 'must physically be in the same place to get married' thing, wartime or severe illness/injury being a very common one. sometimes, a marriage needs to be finalised before a bastard is born, or someone dies without heirs. the consummation can certainly be waived, and if ciris needs to sign or say a thing, well, that's what the maza are for

she gets herself (to) a nunnery (sorry). she picks a god or goddess and a location she likes, and gets a small staff and a decent stipend. she can either get the training to do the necessary religious duties herself or the emperor's household pays to hire someone. in exchange, she has to provide a home and education/training/employment for any woman who is unable or unwilling to get married, and has to be the head of household/manager for the whole thing. she is also not only permitted but encouraged to work with vedero and vedero's friends to establish a sound legal and economic basis to ensure the convent can fulfill that function independent of the emperor's household (look, it is a convent! all women are unmarried, there are no men on the premises, and they perform the appropriate religious observances, it meets all the requirements, every convent has a few black sheep, they'll come around, stop putting your nose where it doesn't belong)

she gets replaced with a sheep. no, hear me out. idra mentions that his father once asked sheveän if she'd not rather have a sheep, so at least she'd get the benefit of the wool. stano joins sheveän's household, and after a week or so, idra goes and buys a sheep, and then stano goes to stay with vedero or arbelan or even czoru for a while, and her usual place is taken by the sheep, and no one comments on it, just to see how sheveän reacts. this improves nothing and makes everyone very angry

she gets married to maia (v1) for the biblical 'doing his dead brother's duty' thing, in which case maia reads a number of very embarrassing books and they have supremely awkward sex exactly once, never talk about it again, and if stano gets pregnant, the child is legally ciris's, stano is now a widow and a mother, which puts her in a far better position than she'd be in as a not-quite-married widow, and all the records show that nothing remarkable happened here, stano bazhevin was married to ciris drazhar, bore him a child, and was widowed, moving right on

she gets married to maia (v2), they spend the wedding night in the same room but fully dressed in different beds, and after, say, half a year maia goes 'well, she's obviously not getting pregnant, no point to this marriage, she must be relegated/set aside/whatever' and stano goes on her merry way, with maia's full blessing and financial support. (and if maia and stano both have children later on with other partners, well, everyone knows that sometimes people just aren't compatible, it happens)

I think polyphemus' feast is my answer. Gortash POV Foundry scene during an alternate Act 3 (and alternate scene of A Little Wicked.) I think the Foundry holds Gortash's crowning achievements even more than his fight in Wyrm's Rock does. I know other have done hand-feeding in their fics with Gortash, but I liked playing with it, experimentation both painful and banal, and forcing pain for every pleasure.

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write

bottled lightning. i got into this fandom because of transmasc durges writing gay doomed durgetash, but I always shy back from writing a full story about an OC because I can't imagine anyone cares, despite evidence to the contrary. (we're working on it. you know how it is.) the prompt was too perfect, and I was so pulled into it I got the art from @unkledeath which I love (commission him fr fr.) getting into Dirge's head more, after the brief glimpses we saw in A Little Wicked, hurt a lot and yet felt good. The story also set the direction, and made a promise: Orin will return. How? I'm still figuring out all the details 😅
