This year kinda whizzed by for me! A lot happened in my personal life that I don't want to share online, but throughout all of the highs and lows I was always able to come back to this wonderful fandom. It's been a huge comfort seeing other people theorize and discuss my favorite characters!

I've meet a lot of awesome people through Tumblr & Ao3, cosplaying, and various TF2 groups. As of writing this post I've got a solid 260 followers, which is an insane number to me when this blog simply started as a place to organize my creative works 😭

All of the little tags and comments on my stuff have seriously kept my life whimsical (for lack of a better term) and I would like to shout-out some notable people and works that kept me going through 2024!

First up, and probably the biggest one, is the lovely @aussie-bookworm and their fic, Going Through The Motions. These updates seriously made my day, and I couldn't have been happier you accepted my offer to proofread. It's been super fun discussing the differences between our countries, yapping about the Mercs, and different AUs. I hope to read many more of your works in 2025 B)

Next, another fanfic author, is AhChunta! If you like slow burns, mystery, and Speeding Bullet, I would really recommend Stolen Pieces. It's a super cool crime boss AU that I've been enjoying this year. Plus it deserves more attention!

Another awesome artist is @800db-cloud, who is honestly CARRYING the Freak Fortress fandom. I love how silly your depictions of those freaks are 🧡 and also YOUR ARTSTYLE IS SO COOL AND SATISFYING TO LOOK AT ARGHHH.. You're just super awesome 👍 also shout-out to @riskreward1, my chillest mutual. I think your Getting Milk comic series is hilarious and amazing, but seeing all of those other fandoms you draw is like a gateway drug to me because it's drawn in your KICKASS artstyle‼️plus you like The Mountain Goats and that's based

I love how pretty much every manosouta shipper has their own au so i wanted to draw some of em... so many flavours of horse and monkey.......

1 - my spies are forever au! look uhhh i dont rly have anything for this one aside from a short animatic and a half finished google doc so just go watch spies are forever (it is free to watch on youtube) and you shall see my vision ok

2 - @attorneytrash's assassin au! this one is what got me into manosouta in the first place! i think about it so much......... carousel is still one of my favourite, if not THE favourite fic of all time. argh. so good. tumblr user attorneytrash how does it feel to be the most correct person in the ace attorney fandom. literally my favourite creator in the fandom for years now i really love your work and your ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

over the weekend at the knoxville regional pokemon championships, i met up with a longtime internet friend in person for the first time, and he traded me a very special pokemon - a unique celebi that takes a bit of context to explain the significance of

from november 2001 to january 2005, the building that is now a nintendo world store in new york city was actually an american pokemon center, which hosted the "Gotta Catch ‘Em All!" station, a large machine that you could pop your gold/silver/crystal cartridge into (or later ruby/sapphire/firered/leafgreen, but that's not relevant here) and get a special distribution pokemon unique to the store. often times these were normal pokemon in eggs with special moves they couldn't usually learn, but other times they ran distributions for shiny legendaries, and of course, the mythical celebi.

there's very few pictures of the machine and all of them are pretty low quality, but you can see an iteration of it here during the gen 3 era:

when PCNY (pokemon center new york) shut down, the machine and its contents were presumed lost forever, but due to the preservation efforts and the good luck of a few individuals, some of the distributions have been preserved, as well as parts of the machine and its software. this is extra incredible because almost all gen 2 save files from the time the machine was actually functional are long since wiped due to the battery inside dying, meaning that very very few of the gen 2 event pokemon distributed from this machine at the time still exist. i won't go super in detail on that in this post but you can read an article about all of that here (julie, the person who runs this historical PCNY fansite is incredibly passionate and if you want to know anything about the PCNY store i absolutely recommend reading her writing!)

so, one day when i was rambling to my friend (his name is Venty!) about my fascination with the PCNY machine, and how i wish i had been born early enough to experience that, as well as wishing that i could have traded with anyone in gens 1-3 as a child but never got to due to isolation, venty told me that he's actually friends with a guy (Professor Rex) who knows the guy who owns the remnants of the PCNY machine (Gridelin), and he would love to reach out and ask if there's any way rex could distribute a celebi to himself and trade it to him sometime so that eventually when me and venty met in person one day, he'd be able to trade the celebi to me.

i pretty much burst into tears and very passionately explained how much that would mean to me - not just because owning a celebi actually distributed from the historical PCNY distribution station is just... insanely cool, but because like i said, i had never traded anyone in the old internet-less generations of pokemon, and having that be my first was just... a monumental thought. i am deeply fascinated with old gen event distributions because of the tactile, interpersonal nature of them, in direct contrast with my isolation and loneliness as a child. it might sound silly to be so worked up over a collection of bytes/pixels, but i really couldn't believe venty would offer me something so kind. and not only did he offer to ask - rex said yes!!

so on may 21st last year (2023) rex traveled out and distributed the celebi to his pokemon silver cartridge. specifically, the celebi is from the "Celebi Present Campaign" which ran from the 22nd of november 2002 to the 28th of november 2002. the display on the monitor is the same video that would have appeared on the screen in the PCNY store, but flipped sideways here haha. (the gen 2 distributions were special and had custom animations for the legendaries and stuff, which you can watch here in full quality on gridelin's channel - there's videos of the other distribution animations on his channel, too!)

and then months later, during the weekend of august 11th 2023, rex and venty met up at the pokemon world championship in japan and rex traded the celebi to venty's gold cartridge...

...then, finally, just this past weekend, on sunday (february 4th 2024) venty and i finally met in real life for the first time at the knoxville TN regional pokemon championships, and with link cable in hand the celebi finally made its way to me in my hotel room, after crossing the ocean twice and passing through canada to the US to japan and back to the US...!!

gen 2 pokemon data isn't very complicated, but you can tell that my celebi is unique from the other PCNY celebis dumped online (here and here if you'd like to play with some of these historical pokemon yourself) because it has the trainer ID of 00204 which none of the publicly available celebis have - though of course to me, regardless of what becomes publicly available in the future (and i hope one day the common layperson can simply emulate the PCNY machine, video game preservation >>> unique collections always) this celebi will always be special and unique because of how it got to me, and because it represents my friendship with venty who i care so much about. it was an extremely kind gesture i will never forget and i can't believe how much traveling and how many people were involved with getting this tiny bundle of bytes and pixels to me. i hugged venty after the trade was done haha

oh, and by the way, don't worry, i have the hardware to back up my gen 2 save files so this celebi will never die even after my crystal cartridge battery eventually dies once more!! (also, while i don't think it would be an issue i do want to say please don't bother any of the people mentioned in this post...! gridelin & co are working on making the distribution machine in question available for anyone to use, it'll come out whenever it's out and for now there are dumps of the events that were recovered. i would not want them to receive any annoying requests for pokemon because of me. thank you!)

Sorry this took forever to answer i haven't been well recently but I'm doing better

I've talked about this on some different octonauts octo headcanons posts but ill make a nice neat list! These are a mix of Canon and headcanon <3

Barnacles:

he enjoys attempting to play the accordian, traditional inuit soap stone carving (not something he does often, most of his room carvings are from his childhood), using charcoal and oil pastels to paint scenery as a way to wind himself down(sometimes he'll do people but they don't look very good), sport competitions and exercising, and writing small short screenplays about the characters hes made for his carvings <3 the screenplays are usually very soft and light hearted or deeply sad.

Kwazii:

ok our undiagnosed adhd boy let's go: anything competitive or exciting! I'm talking chess (with inkling), ping pong, any type of sports competition, board games, card games-

He also has a hyperfixation on historic miniature model ships- and some modern too. Bro also LOVES to cook with the vegimals! (Even if his cooking skills are... debatable) hell often teach them (the kid friendly) version of the shanties he grew up with. Funnily enough he doesn't really share his shanties with the rest of the crew,not really...

He does enjoy girls night, esp with jewelry and claw care 💕 dashis been showing him movies and teaching him stuff about pop culture and land culture in general

Also he loves comics <3 and book kwazii enjoys long baths so I gave him a whole long self care routine.

Peso:

making stickers 🥰 playing his xylophone <3 reading all the gossip in his family group chat and trading it with dashi <3 watching inaccurate medical drama shows and making fun of them with dashi <3 knitting !!!💕 he likes to make little stuffed animals and scarves <3 also hats sometimes

He likes reading chiikawa (kwazii recommended the comic to him) and talking to his mom about their favorite romance dramas together

This last one isn't really a hobby but he does enjoy listening to pinto yap about whatever video game he's hyperfixated on lol

Dashi:

Ok speed run, yoga, photography, making tiny dumb video games with tweak (they once made one where its just the gup b and it was basically like flappy bird lol), ROOM DECOR AND PINTEREST BOARDS OH MY GOODNESS (my friend is like that lol I love it when she sends me her stuff), SURFING, BASKETBALL SHES SO COMPETITIVE IN EVERY SPORT, listening to horror podcasts and cursed pov asmr at night <3, talking with shellington about tiny random creature species!!! Also stimming <3

He breathes his hyperfixation about creature species. He and tweak and literally EVERYONE is SO autistic and/or nuerodivergent in some way. Anyways so I'm talking drawing sea creatures (hes a pretty good artist ngl, barnacles could take notes), researching them, comparing them, studying their biological abilities and the chemical components and possibilities of it- literally his entire job is just him having an autistic blast like good for him

But most of his free time is very much spent with the vegimals XD whether its playing with them, trying to teach them things, or just talking with them.

He also loves drawing hyper realistic animal drawings saying very very stupid silly puns. The vegimals internally react to them like dad jokes but they pretend they're very funny cuz hes SO. PROUD.

Inkling:

He enjoys doing very deep dives into topics, deep cleaning, chatting with min on video call, conducting psychological social and behavioral experiments on the octonauts, competing with kwazii and the other octonauts to challenge them (he slays),

Journaling, and even his actual job of organizing their discoveries and getting them ready for scientific peer review as well as handling all paper work sides of thibgs

He really enjoys spending time with thr other octonauts, they are ALL his children(in a "my fascinating lil creatures!! I must teach them and challenge them so that they can grow!) to him and he adores them all immensely. He likes to make photo albums with dashi.

He also enjoys not having bones because apparently when mammals and avians get old their bones hurt all the time??? So he's pretty happy about that ngl

the vegimals all have different interests: whether its having certain genres of media they gravitate too, different aspects of gardening they enjoy,or joining different octonauts in their own tasks! But they'll always love making their own songs and working together <3 also experimenting in recipes lol. A few will often join the other octonauts doing their own hobbies or try to do the hobbies they see the others doing. They are kids after all lol

This could mean tominnow joining peso and dashi while they watch their dramas, barrot being very excitable while playing video games with tweak, tunip learning how to play chess with the professor, grouber being a little princess and enjoying self care, coddish trying to learn how to sword fight with kwazii pretending to be a silly monster, or halibeet curled sleepilu next to inkling as he reads and explains what he's learning- and so on and on and on.

"I want money, power and glory, I want money and all your power, all your glory" - you'll see a lot of Lana, but I really think he fits with some songs. as for the lyrics, the song itself doesn't fit with his lore totally, but i like the chorus, i think it fits with WHY he likes the idea of having money, back then when he was a slave.. he meant nothing to the world. now that he has it, he is considered powerful.. glorious. i like to think that he understands this mentality, how much, unfortunately, money controls the world

"My life, it comprises of losses and wins and fails and falls" - i think this really works with his luck, how he always emerges victorious even after so many hardships he has to go through

"I'm a shapeshifter at Poe's masquerade, hiding both face and mind, all free for you to draw" - it feels a little silly to put a persona song on a star rail post😭 but i feel like beneath the mask works so well with characters that don't show their true self(haha did you get that) to the world, which works so much with the flirty, confident persona(im so funny) aventurine puts on, the "mask" he so created to conceal his feelings

"Think I'll miss you forever.. Like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky" - this line doesnt really work with him😭 but it plays in my mind once in a while while thinking of him<3 especially in the (!! spoiler for the 2.1 quest? !! tho i think everyone finished it already) quest where everyone thought he was dead

Am I past repair?" - i actually found this song on an edit on tiktok with him and i think it fits so insanely good with him. i recently saw(again, spoilers for 2.2 quest?😭) the messages he sent to the trailblazer after argenti rescued him and i noticed he told the trailblazer something like "but i survived, and im happy about that". i cant tell if he was being sincere or not, but id like to think that he indeed was happy to get the chance to keep going; i like to imagine that aventurine has an interesting view on death, he doesn't fear it and he probably wished more than once he could just vanish, but i think he accepted that he still has a long journey ahead of him

The electric piano weighs heavy on Nayzak’s lap as she adjusts her posture on the checkered picnic blanket. She has a glass container full of freshly cut strawberries to her left, and a bouquet of violet and blue hyacinths tied together with a lovely bow to her right.

The gravestone with his name on it is her silent witness—her captive audience. It would be silly of her to admit that, once upon a time, the cold grey slab once filled her veins with a cold, heavy stage fright—as if a stone could actually judge her performance or tease her. This feeling doesn’t plague her anymore, though. She feels more of a sense of companionship, mixed with guilt.

It is guilt over the years she spent paralyzed and hesitant; it is guilt over the moments she threw away–over fears that feel childish and petty now.

Her shame and discomfort brush past her, leaving her face burning hot and heart numb. Her fingers dance across the keys of the piano idly as she hums her soft serenade. If her mind wanders long enough, she can even see him sitting on the ground with his back against the gravestone, lazily resting his arm on his knee. She pulls her knees close to her chest and looks over at him. “I haven’t disappeared. I’ve been here the whole time,” she replies.

She doesn’t miss the way Caleb’s eyes narrow with hurt. “You haven’t been around.”

Nayzak feels the heat of her evol ripple and spread in the space Caleb left between them. She cannot stop the bubble from growing, but that does not stop her from apologizing for it. “I’m sorry about that… Can you… sit a bit farther way. Or you’ll get burned.”

He frowns but does not argue. “You don’t have to apologize for that, y’know.”

There is toxic sludge in the air between them, and Nayzak feels it slide down her throat and into her lungs, where it settles like a weighted blanket over her heart.

“Shanu’s been missin’ you,” he says, staring out at the schoolyard. “You gonna hang out with us again? Just like when we were kids?”

The heaviness in her chest makes it difficult to breathe, let alone sigh.

“I’m sorry. I can’t go out.”

Caleb arches his neck, the back of his head gently hitting the wall behind him, eyes shut in frustration. “Your parents…” he groans—the answer to the unspoken question.

Nayzak makes a small noise, but neither confirms nor denies. She feels the burning sensation grow and subconsciously reaches for her aching wrist. Her evol bubble grows further.

“Gran can talk to ‘em, y’know. Just say the word.” There is a rage simmering beneath his words, but that only fills her with even more pain.

She quickly shakes her head, dispelling the idea completely. “That won’t help.”

“But—”

He is so precious and to place him in her depressing, embarrassing life is to taint him. He’d be ruined forever. She cannot do that to him. She cannot break him like that. Not when he has his whole life ahead of him.

“I’m okay, Caleb.” Her voice quivers and she pauses to swallow the lump in her throat before continuing. “I need to focus on my schoolwork if I’m going to go to that competitive university.”

Caleb turns his head to look at her, a smile breaking across his face, but not quite reaching his eyes. “So…” he says, “you haven’t forgotten about our promise, huh?”

She smiles back at him, resting her head on her arms, admiring the way the sun illuminates him from the back, setting the hairs on his arms alight. “I promised I’d be the first person who greets you when you land your plane in Linkon City.”

“Right!” He curls his hand over an imaginary radio and holds it up to his mouth. “Hello, ground control. Foxtrot Yankee 26, requesting clearance to land. Over.”

Nayzak buries her face in her hands as she laughs at the display. And still, it fills her with a great sadness. It is teasing a future that she would never ever step into, because his future and hers exist in parallel universes, never to intersect.

“Ground control, Foxtrot Yankee 26 radio check? Over.”

She feels a sharp jab in her side and raises her head abruptly. Her evol bubble has receded enough to allow Caleb a chance to break through for just a moment and get her attention.

Even if she knows it can’t be her future, she allows herself to pretend, for just a moment. She clears her throat, lifting her own imaginary radio to her lips. “Foxtrot Yankee 26, Ground Control, I read you 5. Loud and clear.” She makes an ‘OK’ symbol with her other hand. “Foxtrot Yankee 26, runway number 8, cleared to land. Over.”

“See you on the ground, Birdie.”

She rests her cheek against her palm and gazes back at him until his face shifts and morphs and turns into smoke and fairydust, and the empty schoolyard stares back at her.

Across the schoolyard, she spots Caleb in his gym clothes, holding hands with Shanu, a girl from the local middle school and another old friend of Nayzak’s. He's speaking animatedly with her as they begin their walk home.

Caleb turns his head, and their eyes meet for just a moment. He raises a hand in greeting, his smile so wide, it’s impossible to miss, even in the distance.

She waves back and looks away first. Better that she looks away first.

The rhythm settles into a gentle ritardando as the melody comes to an end. She pushes her keyboard away to make room for her picnic basket. Within it is far too much food—she often prepares enough for two, as though his phantom could simply step through the stone and join her on her checkered blanket.

Her eyes land on the DAA dedication on the gravestone and recalls the day she’d been rejected from the program. She’d failed her mental health qualification. She sighs, pausing her playing to shake away the thought. Parallel universes…

“And in every universe, every version of us… this is the closest we will ever be,” she says, choking on the words.

And he would say…

She blinks away the tears falling on her beautifully prepared dishes in their colorful glass containers.

He would say…

“Then we’ll find another universe.”

His voice is so clear in her mind now, as though he were actually, truly beside her.

“And this time, I won’t leave you behind. Not again.”

Feeling foolish as she does so, she turns her head back to check.

He’s just as she remembers him—the relaxed posture, the smile playing at the corner of his lips, even when he’s being completely serious. He looks as though he’d stepped out of one of her daydreams, perfect in every single way. And he is walking towards her. He is kneeling down beside her, one hand on the ground and one on her shoulder, paying no mind to the evol bubble radiating several millimeters off her body, burning the flesh of his hand.

This is the realest her daydreams have felt. She raises a hand to her arm to pinch it. As she winces in pain, a laugh as light as air escapes the phantom’s lips.

“I’ve officially gone insane…” she mutters. “No. I have been insane for a long, long time, haven’t I?”

“If you’re insane, Birdie, then I’m certifiable.” He lets out a bitter chuckle and cocks his head to the side, leaning in close enough for his breath to chase away the chill on her cheeks with its warmth.

That is when the feeling comes back again—the anxiety… the stage fright. Her face is still red and eyes wet with unshed tears, and his face is so close it’s making her want to stab herself through the heart to stop it from twisting in her chest.

“I’m sorry for leaving,” he says, avoiding her eyes. “I’m sorry I caused you all this pain.”

A hesitant hand reaches to trace the edge of his face, along the ray of light reflected upon his cheekbones and the ridge of his jaw. She is careful to control her evol around her hand, so as not to burn him. The same cannot be said for the rest of her body. She feels her evol throbbing all around her, misfiring, unsure of where the boundary is supposed to be between them.

(Six feet under)

He should be six feet under, but he’s not.

She feels the stubborn hand on her shoulder twitch as the evol barrier ripples through it—but it refuses to relent. It remains fixed on her, a solid reminder that this is real, and this is happening.

“How?”

With his free hand, he pulls her fingertips away from his jawline and puts them to his lips, leaving the softest of kisses upon her skin. “That’s… not important right now.”

The numbness of her confusion begins to fade, and she slowly regains control of her body—her evol. She shudders to life, pushing him away from her, out of the range of her barriers, where it is safe—where she can’t hurt him.

“Caleb, you dummy. What are you doing?” she snaps at him, eyes fixed on the hand that had just been on her shoulder. The skin is inflamed. She buries her hand within her picnic basket and pulls out an ice-cold drink, shoving it into his hands. “Here you go. Put that on the burn.”

He does not complain or protest as he is given the drink, holding it against his aching palm. He sits back, his good hand in the dirt, and he is leaning back. The lopsided grin is on his face again… love in his eyes.

5. The police station scene. This is kinda where they really start. Where TK realizes Carlos actually cares about him, where he realizes he might be open to being cared about. It’s so special to me and so intimate. It’s their first real connection/conversation.

4. The proposal! It was perfect. We got our first “Tyler”!!! Carlos still has nightmares about lizards! It was just so them, so perfect, beautiful, monumental. I love this scene so so much

3. Soulmates scene. This is hands down one of my absolute favorite scenes that I think about all the time. We finally got a “baby” from Carlos. We got context to their first night together, how deeply their love runs, and Carlos taking care of TK.

2. I love when tarlos just gets to be silly. The Lou episode will forever be one of my favorites because I loved getting to see them just being domestic and goofy and happy, especially after how much pain they endured throughout s3.

1. Back before I ever watched the show, I watched Tarlos clips, and the whole scene when TK wakes up was one of the first scenes to make me insane before I ever knew who they were and it still makes me crazy even now. It’s just so so beautiful

oh this is gonna be so hard considering he has no name (and i will never give him one). this is a huge ramble www under the cut it goes

okay first of all: his reflection is kai-shirr. that boy is his spitting image, except tarts dad was older and had pale blue hair and eyes, hahah. that first time tart saw him on the kholusian coast felt like being gutted with deja vu. he was born in ilsabard, maybe around corvos, in a village of mixed miqo'te tribes. hes from a big family w many siblings and half-siblings. the second oldest and strongest of the boys, all set to be warriors who will defend their home from garlemald. he took good care of his little siblings as a kid, then started to take up mercenary work really young to help provide for the family. or well. actually it was to gain his fathers approval. bc his old man really, really hated that his son was gay. he kept trying to do more, be more famous and achieve impressive things, bring in more money, its no use. there was a limit to what a guy could do in backwater ilsabard. so he went okay! ill go be famous in eorzea and then youll see, pops!! so off he went, bumping into a young viera in the woods and becoming fast friends w him, then the two joined the wol and her elezen partner as a party of adventurers in ul'dah. and they got a full party later on and became friends forever (citation needed)! yay!!

he was always the moodmaker of the group. the guy who kept everyone lighthearted and motivated. though more like the big brother or nice senpai than a class clown. unfortunately unlike at home hes like the youngest in the party so it was pretty silly seeing him give pep talks to the other guys visibly older than him wwww. hes also the kind of guy to instantly jump into a situation whenever one came up like "no worries ill handle this one! oh god oh fuck–" well he always managed somehow. despite being impulsive and kinda dumb miss wol trusted him the most to handle situations w her and be her cotank hehehehe. hes also a crazy workaholic. like you wouldnt think so bc hes very sociable too but his days were like 50% work 40% shooting the shit w everyone in town 10% everything else. he thinks life can only get better when you achieve more!!! insane achievement hunter mindset going on here. theres always something to improve at everyday, or else something new to learn. he could not sit still and never spent more than 2 seconds at home. which you can imagine was pretty sad for tart. haha. but he was also a very positive and caring person, always looking for what he can compliment out of any and all situations. its so out of pocket too sometimes, but no matter, the important part is staying positive!

if that sounds like toxic positivity, ohhh yeah lmao this guy was. he certainly was. he would never, everrrr show anyone his negative or vulnerable side. hes the guy whos supposed to cheer everyone up! it wont do to have him bummed out! well he would never admonish anyone else for having issues, but himself, most definitely. if he had problems he would stop at nothing to solve them. if theyre unsolvable he would stop at nothing to do anything else that would count as an achievement to make himself feel better. oh yeah man this is totally never gonna backfire horribly and ruin the family you built with your own hands (citation needed)

uhh ok ill stop here and add more when i think of em. oh wait his job choice were warrior and monk altho more the latter now that mnk changes have brought balls into the game. fuck he wouldve loved monk balls so much lmfao
