This was kind of wholesome with a bit of mystery. I truly hope the author completes the series because it is so wonderful.

NOTES: This is one BEEFY boy, but absolutely worth the read. WY really deserves all the good things and does eventually get them in this fic. It is very much a canon divergence but WY is adopted by the Nie's. I truly could not get enough reading this. Yes there is some angst, but WY has so much more respect this time around :'3

NOTES: WARNING: this is such a heavy fic. It was truly hard to read, but the ending is very good I promise. CW: So much abuse, sexual assault, kidnapping, sexual slavery, non-consent. It does get better but I did cry a fuck-ton reading this. This is the AU in which the dafan wen's (they are enslaved and work in a brothel owned by Ruohan and co) take in WY from childhood and he is basically groomed by Wen Ruohan and squad to be their most deviant customer's favourite sex worker (he is tortured for their pleasure i cannot state how terrible it was). BUT He does get a very happy ending, lots of mental health and physical support and it does end with Wangxian in the softest of ways. I know I spoked a lot about the trauma but it was very good I promise.

I am pretty sure I have rec'd it before, but I will continue to do so because it is adorable. Bonus- parental teasing from Cansge Sanren and Wei Changze!

In an alley in yilling she finds orphaned Wei Ying- what's one more (well more than one- we get some baby Xuanyu!) child to raise? In this AU WY is not a cultivator but brilliant with talismans, wangxian still happens (the most romantic first meet), and the jins have the day they deserve in the end. So sweet!

And so Yu Ziyuan thought that she could bring him somewhere where someone may or may not find him but definitely far from where her husband could find him. If he's lucky, he'll survive that winter, if he's not, then death awaits the fevered child. This is the extent of mercy that Yu Ziyuan could give a child. With this, she'll raise her children without having to deal with a brat that brings trouble where he goes according to her visions of her alternate life. Like the tag stated, this is definitely not Yu Ziyuan centric.

NOTES: Listen, I know this is more of a time travel fic (loosely) BUT it still results in WY being raised in the Lan sect (good uncle lan qiren fics are my life blood). The three jades of lan have a MUCH better time, wangxian romance, the war is averted, and we get a sneaky little twist in the end! A solid fic.

Lan Wangji learns to come to terms with this (eventually).

NOTES: WY was raised by Baoshan Sanren and turns up at cloud recesses once he descends the mountain. This was a cute read and doesn't really dig deep into wangxian as a couple but it is the story of them falling in love (adorable). I love a good Gusu study arc and this was very much that.

Or, in which Jiang Fengmian is unaware of what happened to Wei Wuxian's parents and Nie Mingjue takes him in and the story continues from there…

NOTES: Another sweet sweet Nie sect adopts WY fic. This fic really broke my heart i'm not going to lie pals. It does have a very happy ending but it also includes 16 years of WY away from civilization (he is not dead but is in the burial mounds fixing some things that happen to him). It is worth it for the happy ending- AND it includes some cute bonus chapters!

I made this a couple days ago but only added more to it today! i now consider it finished.

This a little based on an Ocelhira fic I read that is set during the 9 year gap ( "I hope they never understand us" by theArchduchess) where they’re trying to work together and the girls argue like every chapter.

Kaz is an emotional bomb and doesn't understand how Ocelot can keep his composure when he supposedly has a 'special connection' with Big Boss. What he doesn't know is that Ocelot has a lot going on behind the scenes.

He's also hard headed and stubborn when it comes to his ideas/decisions to make money + gets angry when Ocelot refutes his ideas and thats basically how the animatic starts

chronic side pairing: a ship that is actually common/popular within a fandom but is never the focus of any fics and is usually a side pairing.

chronic side character: a main character in canon (sorry canon side characters) that is often pushed aside by other main characters or even side characters and barely has fics where they are the focus.

(fic) Short answer: Gladio feels insane guilt and spends a lot of his life trying to make this up to Prompto. In the process, they deepen their connection as friends and do begin a relationship probably around the one-year mark of endless darkness. <3

Longer answer: (implications of abuse/violence tw but no worse than in the fic itself; just what others assume to be true even if it's not in the context of this specific fic)

Gladio is a secret romantic at heart who has always envisioned meeting his soulmate, but he's also duty-bound and duty comes first. So even though he reads romance books (amongst other types of books too) and indulges in his head a bit as many people do, he's often put his duty to the crown first and foremost in his mind. He also didn't imagine his soulmate was anyone on this trip and thought perhaps the person he may have been fated to meet died in the assault of Insomnia. Even if they were a refugee, they can't be a priority to him at this moment. His priority has to be Noctis.

Prompto has obviously grown on him over the course of their road trip, but there are aspects of them that don't 100% mesh (as is true with every realistic relationship). That said, Gladio never in a hundred years would want this moment of (understandable but out of line) frustration and anger in the wake of Luna and Altissa to be a permanent mark on Prompto's face. He's genuinely horrified and disgusted with himself for a long time after this and spends most of his life trying to make it up. He feels like a dirtbag about it.

That said, Prompto runs away from him in this moment and they need time to calm down, just as the fic shows. Noctis goes after Prompto, just like in canon. Prompto falls off the train and has his Despair Arc just like in the DLC, now with the added despair of "well, in addition to being a clone, my soulmate hates me. And in addition to the mark of inhumanity on my wrist (barcode), I have a giant hand print of him literally Shoving Me Away on my face. Forever."

Aranea: Well, do you want to die about it. Or do you want to live.

Prompto, eventually like in canon: Live, I guess. But it will be excruciating.

Aranea: That's what living is. We do it anyway. Your friends love you. Get off the floor.

He fights his way through his issues and gets rescued like in canon. Gladio probably tries to talk to him when they all catch up again, trying to apologize, and Prompto tells him to hold off on that for later.

Then, of course, Noctis is eaten by the crystal and "later" becomes much, much later as they evacuate and try to survive in eternal darkness. (Though they also can't Not think about it because it's a giant hand print. On Prompto's face. And every person they meet has Something To Say about it, for better or worse, whether they knew Prompto before or not. Prompto cannot escape it, and when Gladio is not doing Crown Duties he feels he must do in Noct's absence, he's with Prompto, so he also Cannot Escape It either. Even when the person speaking is unaware that Gladio left that mark. It's almost worse when they don't know, but when they see it's Gladio, who is such a big guy who seemingly hit Prompto and left that permanent mark there, some of them get nasty to him and some back off out of fear. Both are horrible. The guilt is eating him alive.)

Eventually, enough time passes as the dust settles that they do Talk About It. Gladio apologizes sincerely, for the 500th time. Prompto's like, "Well. It's not like you could have known that this would be The One Time it happened." And then cracks a joke about their soulmate mark being a Prompto's hand print on Gladio's ass from a butt slap in another life, which does help the tension somewhat. (The more Gladio tries to apologize, the more Prompto grows sick of hearing it, so they just have to move on and keep going, as he's learned to do.)

They grow closer over time, especially because there's not a lot of people who have survived to this point and even less later on. They do get together romantically, both because they do like the idea of soulmates (for different reasons) and also because they're living out of each others pockets for years, so there's an affection and dependency that develops there. Also, teenage Prompto always thought Gladio was really handsome and teen Gladio thought Prompto was cute and sincere for a pipsqueak.

When they are out together on dates in normal settings surrounded by strangers after the light returns, Gladio will receive dirty looks for the rest of his life from strangers who see the hand print on Prompto's face and immediately (correctly) assumes it was out of anger rather than a funny accident or something. (Edit: Some people will assume there is a funny story attached. Gladio will not know what to say to this. Prompto will play along.) He will learn to live with this. Prompto is really grateful Gladio is with him despite everything.

Really interesting phenomena in some fandoms where they will throw out ‘non canon’ stuff in an attempt get back to source material, ignoring the source of the ‘headcanon’.

Things like ‘Sans has 1HP’, sometimes get thrown out and labelled as fanon. When the REASON it’s a headcanon is because in the files of the game he has 1HP. (And because it fits his general thing (tm), it’s adds to the trolling).

Im using Undertale as an example but it happens elsewhere.

This is like a sibling of the ‘tries so hard to not be the common fanon version they roll back to an equally fanon logical opposite of that’

Not complaining really, I just think the way fandoms do things and how characters distort is really interesting.

i'm only kinda sorry but if i'm reading fanfic and the writer puts faith in a dress without a Very Good Reason (ex. the mayor made her wear it, she's trying to impress buffy, she's a bridesmaid in somebody's wedding) i am taken out of it so quickly. that tiny detail bugs me so much what are you even doing?? faith hates dresses!!!! free her!!!!!

Does the fact that DP now has an official canon continuation affect you while working on the comic

Like does the new canon stuff influence your own vision or has your vision for your reboot remained the same since you started?

Sorry it's taken so long to answer so I'll match with a long answer and update in my process, I'm so sorry lol

But no, an official canon continuation will not stop me from making the comic. And while I do own the new comic and plan on getting all the future official DP merch I can get my hands on, it wont effect my story in the slightest because I haven't read it. Plus I've already written my story and I'm very happy with it. I will someday read the new comic but not anytime soon, I'm just so happy it exists and that it's in my hands either way.

What might stop me (for a little bit at least) is a full on rebooted series, not a continuation/revival because the fandom has been around so long and we've all influenced each other in big or little ways. And since we're all playing in the same sandbox there's naturally some overlap. But this started as a pitch bible/proof of concept for a full on reboot of my own and if there's an active reboot airing I'd be very sad it wasn't mine (so silly I know lol but it's true).

What has stopped me is the a back and forth issue I have on the comic in general. I have found a style of comic I enjoy making, but I have gotten in my own head about it being stiff and bad. I know practice make progress and I'm getting more confident about it and also considering making it into a fic with art and slowly adapting it into a comic just so I can have some thing to post and put out there. But my iPad is dying and outside of sketches on paper I haven't been able to write or draw to the extent I'd like. I've been saving for a new one for a while now and about half way there but life happens and it takes a toll on my savings. So I'm trying to decide what's the best way to proceed and I have a lot of options and that's also a little overwhelming, which sounds silly typing out. But it's easy for me to feel guilt every time I try to commit to one game plan because all my best options rely on me getting a new iPad
