not only does eddie not have his son right now, not only does he have to deal with the fact that his biggest fear of losing his son to his parents is now a reality, but he also has to see and hear about his own parents doing things for chris that they never would've done for him. they're throwing him a birthday party and maybe building a pool and they're teaching him chess. eddie's parents weren't showing up for him in that way when he was a kid. they weren't learning new things together or devoting time to him. eddie practically had to raise himself and his sisters but now has to watch through a phone screen as his parents suddenly are capable of showing up and being parents but to his own son.
