Agatha and Rio have an explicit, textual, canonical romantic past and are explicitly, textually, canonically queer. They have had a number of *unambiguously* romantic and sexually charged moments together on screen - NOT innuendo that can be explained away as something else. I want them to kiss, and THEY ARE GOING TO, but if they didn’t it still would not be queerbaiting. They are explicitly queer. Words have meanings.
#to be clear i’d be pissed if they didn’t kiss!#(and again. they’re going to)#but a bad creative decision for a character arc isn’t the same thing as queerbaiting#queerness is explicitly part of these characters and this story#it’s not empty marketing#it’s not subtext#IT IS TEXT#agatha all along#agatha all along spoilers#gettin’ meta#writing

AU where Loki doesn’t interfere with Thor’s banishment at all and it takes Thor years to prove himself worthy and when he returns to Asgard everything is just. The same. Nothing seems to have changed at all and everyone greets him like his absence was a minor obstacle that didn’t fundamentally change Thor and the worst part is Loki stepped down from the place as regent without any delay and Thor can’t help but feel there’s something underlaying the way his brother looks at him now and won’t let him touch him and Thor doesn’t know what he could have missed because he doesn’t think he would have found anything wrong with the things around him and how everyone behaves if he hadn’t spent time on Earth reflecting.
#the warriors 4 not being interested in anything Thor ‘learnt’ at all#and making it clear that Thor was punished unfairly and the AllFather’s decision had been harsh#Loki saying he’s happy for Thor and Thor sees the way the smiles are forced and he sees the way Loki avoids any touch#Thor hating the way Frigga talks about Loki’s short regency and Thor’s absence like it wasn’t two whole decades or something#like she’s so grateful to have her other son back without ever addressing why he was gone#Thor just. growing during his time on earth and being much more aware of the behaviour around him#he learns to be critical and assess why people around him may act a certain way#once he realises that it’s possible for him or anyone else to be fallible and make mistakes it’s over for Asgard for him I think#Thor returns and Loki gives him the throne and everyone expects him to obviously have the throne#and Odin is sleeping and Thor isn’t comfortable with the way everyone accepts him as king regent after the banishment#Loki who either never lashed out against Jotunheim or did and it was brushed away and no one thinks about it as anything#but Loki is still deeply affected and acts the way he always would have but Thor can feel it’s not the same#he knows something is wrong and Loki won’t say anything about it and Thor doesn’t know how to bring it up#Thor sees Loki metaphorically receding into the shadows to become a nonpresence so loud Thor hears it even after returning from decades away#Thor goes to Earth and gets his priorities in order gets a new worldview learns not to take what he has for granted#and finds out he actually despised Asgard#he’s been back a week and he can’t stand it

I think it’s so ironic that the Pony Express escapes a lot if not all blame in discussion. I can’t even say I am excused from it but it’s just how hard people circle back to the characters alone without considering the environment they were made to be in.
Why would they design a ship where only two of the rooms lock? Not the bathroom? Not the sleeping quarters? We assume that all the companies in the universe are this shallow and careless to their workers but we explicitly know the Pony Express in extra vile. They are fed processed slop pack they can’t even really cook and the ration of those pack is meager at best. They hired and made people with a plethora of conflicting demeanors and beliefs work together on a mission where cohesion is important if not an outright necessity and punish them for not being happy about it. There’s no social protocols, not chain of command other than Captain’s word/choice and the only way to enforce that is with a literal firearm. They don’t allow them to celebrate freely and even took away leisure activities that would make them less stir crazy. They are only allowed a few hours of sleep despite their being no other real responsibilities or work on the ship, no matter the position or its importance. With any crew, with any level of synergy, this was a powder keg waiting for a spark.
I’m not saying characters that made mistakes didn’t make huge ones, but I think part of the horror is that at least for some (this is targeting Jimathan) those mistakes are partly made by a force of the hand. There’s a running theme of lack of choice and being forced into something and the very nature of how The Pony Express expected them to function plays a big part.
#like even I forget that all actions taken in the game were people trying to remain in protocol outside of Jimmy#Anya couldn’t have jus stolen the scanner and got the gun cause she’s a sensible person and knows she’d be in legal trouble#or get everyone’s credits docked or just hoping that there’s some chain of command for this sort of thing#Daisuke only really acted in accordance to his direct superiors because he’s an intern he wouldn’t know the first thing about protocol or#what to do in any situation. like this is essentially implied to be his first real job#Curly may be the captain but he still has to follow rules and procedures and we see with the letter the Pony Express likely has very shady#and shitty ones. he gives the best not depressing or totalitarian options he can otherwise everything is just his word which aren’t even his#or like him just asserting his position with the gun which he wouldn’t do#Swansea follows the book begrudgingly because he’s trying to stay right and not fall back into who he once was#I feel like it’s not incorporated nearly enough that the environment they were dropped into heavily affected their actions#say there was a single person higher than Curly or a plan of action when a crew member is considered a danger to himself or others#I think it’s fascinating how people will stick to protocol and break when they get scared or to their limit#cause the game shows how normalcy deteriorates and I think discounting what the characters where put through by the company takes a way a#real and scary aspect of what happened to Anya because as a friend Curly didn’t do enough for her at all his comfort was there and he#appreciated but it was a distracted sort of care but as a Captain he didn’t protect her but he’s was a Captain of the Pony Express like what#if they told him to wait to? he still should’ve done something because Anya was actively suffering and Jimmy should’ve been reprimanded but#he’s a captain with orders like the Tulpar isn’t his ship in the same way like#god I wanna explain this in a way that makes sense but the Tulpar is like designed to breed animosity and work on the bare requirements one#needs to get things done that’s not how people work and if anyone deviates or interrupts that it literally has nothing to handle it#it becomes clear that if any social unrest happens why they just say fuck it and give the Captain the gun because if something happens the#blame can easily be placed on the person they put in charge despite what they put them#in charge of like this is just like work place harassment irl because often the perpetrators are not punished but the supervisors for not#stopping them with meetings or cuts or whatever but the environment the company fostered is rarely fixed or blamed#like why was this allowed to occur? and honestly that is because Jimmy did what he did#ask me about this if this is confusing cause I worded it crazy#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#the pony express

Age of Calamity is such a funny game when you think about it because most of the characters go through Events and use their strengths and suffer hardships and stuff, but honestly they mostly end the game the same as they started it. It’s not “bad storytelling” or anything to have most of the main characters (Link, the Champions, Impa, etc) not change very much character-growth wise, I’m not insinuating that. They’re heroes and it’s fun to watch them BE heroes and in some cases have nice heartfelt moments together, etc.
But it’s just hilarious to me that the characters in the game who DO get some form of character development arc are:
3. King Rhoam (a distant third place but he does realize his kid’s interests were helpful not frivolous and he apologizes and lets her continue leading the army and fights by her side)
2. Zelda (expected, she is the main character after all, and she gets to grow from doubting herself based on her father’s words and how special and talented everyone around her seems to be in comparison, and being upset at not being able to help more, to realizing her worth as a capable leader whose love and passions were what saved everyone)
1. MASTER FUCKIN KOHGA (goes from trying to peace out and let his lackeys take care of every fight, to desperately NOT wanting to leave Sooga and the others behind (poorly and obviously hiding it behind “come on stick together so you can protect me!” while he as the PC for your first play of that mission is clearly doing all the work to protect them); ends up not only joining Zelda’s faction to protect/get revenge for his Clan despite his hereditary beef with the royal family, but PERSONALLY taking to the battlefield including in the final deadly dangerous missions; declares during that final battle that HE is gonna “send that giant menace packing,” ie the very same monstrous entity he previously served)
Like. It’s not even close. Master “Top Banana” “Kill You All To Death” Kohga. Has THE most character development in the game.
And it’s just. So unexpected and therefore great and entertaining to me.
#kidk says stuff#legend of Zelda#age of calamity#master kohga#yiga clan#age of calamity spoilers#I am insane about him sure but I still believe I’m objectively correct#some of the others (yunobo & riju come to mind) get small ‘gains more confidence in abilities’ moments#link is a very fun protagonist and ALL the characters are my favorites BUT#if we’re talking ARCS…yeah#this isn’t even considering headcanons—this is all in the literal text of the game#ps to be clear I’m NOT saying ‘Kohga has character development bc he ends up siding with Zelda/hyrule’s royal family’#I’m saying he has character development bc he ends up against Ganon for the safety of the clan and isn’t a coward about it#they’re not the same thing#I have complex feelings/headcanons about the clan’s allegiances but this isn’t the time for that!!

Did anyone else noticed that Charles seems to be the only one that puts effort to save them from death or being taken away?
Maybe I need to watch the show again, but of all the times they were in danger of being separated, Charles is the first one to step in and defend them. I don’t think I remember seeing Edwin step in or fight or do something to avoid the situation, I wonder why that is? (Unless he did but I don’t remember because I have a brain of a goldfish) but I wonder why, some times it gets me thinking if it was Edwin’s turn to fight for them, is he going to do it? WILL he do it? Is he willing to go as far as attacking someone (like Charles did with the night nurse) or even worse? What would he do in that situation?
It gets me thinking as well, even if Charles doesn’t feel the same way. His feelings for Edwin (platonically) are so so deep and immense that he would literally do ANYTHING to not get separated from him almost like he literally CANNOT live without him, maybe he cannot imagine what he would do if he doesn’t have Edwin by his side. They have been together for so many years, he’s used to him. Losing him would probably send him into a mental breakdown or worse, and that is something interesting to think about.
#dead boy detective netflix#dbda#dead boy detective agency#dead boy detectives#dead boy detective badge#netflix#payneland#charles and edwin#charles rowland#charles x edwin#edwin payne#no but seriously that is so sweet#even if Charles only sees him as a friend#he cares and loves him SO much#that he literally cannot imagine a future without him#he literally cannot LIVE (stay dead) without him#I wonder if Edwin feels the same?#cause I feel like Charles is more open about it#like in the show they made it clear how much Charles cares about his mate#if he has to choose one person he can stay forever let’s be honest#he’s going to choose Edwin#like this isn’t even me being bias#it’s literally the TRUTH#it’s in the scripts#it’s RIGHT THERE#the proof the he unalives/breathes and inhales their friendship#also sorry if there’s any typos I’m sleep deprived and English is not my first language

the percy jackson tv show is actually great when there isn’t a little shit in your ear telling you it’s not “book accurate”
#it’s book accurate enough FOR ME#god can we just try to enjoy something for once#it’s an ADAPTATION. it is not gonna be copy and pasted from the books#but they have the tone and the humor and the CHARACTERS and the themes right#isn’t that what really matters?#and some of yall are acting like they changed the entire plot when really it’s just small changes that service the tv format#and deepen character relationships and interactions#seeing book fans say the movies are better is the most absurd thing i’ve heard in my life… like did we watch the same movies#every single thing the show does wrong is still light years better than every single thing the movies got right#can’t we just enjoy that please#can you tell i’m sick of the nitpicking😭#anyways maybe try to have fun for once in ur life idk#also ur allowed to have constructive criticism that’s so valid. or criticism at all#ofc u should critique the media u enjoy#but saying it’s not a good adaptation is kinda crazy to me idk#when it’s so clear how much thought was put in by the creators and cast to get it right this time#pjo tv#pjo tv show#pjotv#percy jackson#pjo#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo spoilers#percy jackon and the olympians#ruch rambles#sorry to hide all that in the tags but it feels very angry and i don’t want to be mean😭 i have the crit tag filtered for a reason lol#i’m choosing joy#but i just wanted to put these thoughts out there

The gods basically failed at the ye old Spiderman adage. Great power, great responsibility.
Because truly at the end of it all, they can’t be both humanized and gods. They have too much power. Yes, you can sympathize with them but they aren’t allowed the same allowances as just a regular person. If a superhero chose to save their family over the world, they failed. Because they have a duty, they have power higher than themselves, higher than personal bonds.
And that’s what the gods fail at. The Raven Queen putting on the emotionless mask and saying they were children in their mortal forms is indicative of this. She knows what it means to chose godhood and she is failing at being this objective persona of death and fate. They are all failing at this. Erathis realized this. When what they call a squabble means war and destruction for everyone else, you cannot play the “we’re just a family” card. The power they hold is beyond that and they have a responsibility to use it wisely, to uphold the duty they promised they would.
And the Divine Gate is them choosing. Choosing to be gods or to be humanized. Pelor lamenting the idea of not being able to walk amongst mortals, Melora refusing to leave because she found this world. But ultimately, yes. They cannot walk amongst their creations because they are separate, they are not the same. There is a sheer difference in power that cannot be reconciled unless they give it up. And they can’t. They all choose godhood. They choose to be on a different level than mortals.
They chose power and have to deal with the responsibility.
#cr spoilers#cr meta#cr downfall#and it’s ironic that the one who gets this is Asmodeus#yes he’s being a little fucking shitbag when he calls Ayden just a skin puppet#but he isn’t all wrong…Brennan made it very clear that their mortal forms could not exist at the same time as their godly ones#Asmodeus understands that they are not on the same level as the mortals…he takes that to mean dominion but he isn’t wrong about the level of#power difference between them…he’s wrong about how to go about it but he knows they have to stop pretend like they can have it both ways#it’s probably why the Betrayers were willing to use the weapon on them#he knows they can’t be a family and be these gods of good and evil…it’s one or the other and they chose to commit to evil#if the Primes are going to push this narrative of good and evil onto the world then Asmodeus is going to play by those rules#Asmodeus is calling them out just as much as the celestials did…is it we’re a family or we are the Primes and they are the Betrayers?

alex and nigel
what they would’ve actually looked like
#almost the exact same 💀#age accurate like minds#well about as accurate as i can get it#it’s difficult to find younger pics of eddie and photos of tom from late 2002-2003 are nonexistent#however the chosen pic is behind the scenes to being julia which came out in 2004 so be likely would’ve been freshly 18#if not seventeen depending on how early into production he shot his scenes.#i know he mentioned being amongst ‘every other seventeen year old in london’ while auditioning#so it’s possible he was still nigel’s age but i doubt it#he was also working on vanity fair at that same time. i just figure that this image is a bit more clear given that he isn’t decked out-#-in elaborate historic clothing#but look at eddie omg#he doesn’t look too much different but there’s an innocence behind his eyes that alex was lacking (for a reason that is no big mystery)#like minds#nigel colbie#murderous intent#alex forbes#like minds 2006#alex forbes x nigel colbie#tom sturridge#eddie redmayne

thinking about todd and his resolve toward… not quite isolation, but being alone in a room full of people again. he goes along to the study room to sit on his own and do his homework, he sits at the poets table and follows along with what’s being said while keeping quiet, he goes to the meetings at all but doesn’t necessarily contribute (in fact, if you watch him when cameron is telling the story ‘from camp in sixth grade’, you can see that he recognizes it before any of the other poets but doesn’t voice it until they all have). he’s not alone, necessarily, if you want to get technical about it, he’s just lonely, and he’s generally okay with that. he doesn’t have friends and that’s fine, he doesn’t participate in class and that’s fine, he doesn’t have a relationship with his family and that’s fine—he could live without any real connection and he’d have been, more or less, fine.
the thing about when he says “i can take care of myself just fine!” is that he isn’t really wrong, you can infer that he’s been doing it his entire life anyway, it’s that ‘taking care of yourself’ isn’t the same thing as really living or being happy. todd’s an introvert, certainly, and even as he gets closer to the group he defaults to sitting quietly in the background, but he’s also denying himself community out of fear not introversion. todd isn’t friendless because he’s an introvert, although that definitely plays a part, he’s friendless because he pushes anyone that might want his company away. if anyone has every wanted for his attention in the first place. (neil’s unwavering interest in him is unique (even when it comes to the rest of the poets, who are fine with todd coming along and joining the group, but aren’t really hellbent on him being there in the beginning) and his refusal to accept it is a direct result of being so lonely growing up.)
there’s obviously something to be said about the implications of his parents neglect, and the more than likely fact that he grew up friendless, and how those both play a part in in him being so skilled at dodging social interaction/being so avoidant of it, but by the time we see him in the movie he’s all but accepted his fate as being alone his entire life. he’s already accepted being the family disappointment, and he’s already accepted he’ll never amount to anything, and he obviously doesn’t like it, but he’d have managed living with that knowledge without the confirmation that it was all wrong. would he have been miserable? almost certainly. but he’d have managed. he’d done it for that long already, anyhow.
#and like obviously it’s BAD in the long run and his isolation IS only making his life worse but… genuinely he’d have been alright#all things considered#it’s super interesting to me how it’s neil who starts the domino effect of todd’s life becoming Less Shit#both by beliving in him and putting faith in him that he’s never seen before and refusing to let him hide away#but it isn’t a savior moment on neil’s part#and i find it so odd when people frame it as one#todd is like… actively irritated at him in that scene 😭#neil is right that todd needs to get out of his shell and put himself out there and Believe in himself#but todd can’t accept it yet because he can’t see what neil sees in him yet and doesn’t believe it exists at all#and it frustrates him because unlike everyone else neil REFUSES to give up on him#and as far as todds concerned it’ll be for nothing#as far as todd’s concerned neil isn’t a savior or a hero in that scene he’s an annoyance#a necessary one in the grand scheme of things but an annoyance all the same#i think people forget that just because todd DOES want to break out of his shell (‘don’t you think you could be?’ / ‘no! i… i don’t know!’ +#‘come on you heard keating don’t you want to *do* something about it?’ / ‘*yes* but…’) doesn’t mean he knows how or believes he actually CAN#todds autonomy can be taken away from him a lot (ironic) and he can be twisted into someone with no opinions or thoughts or whims +#outside of neil but that isn’t really the case#and a part of that blame lands on the movie because todd doesn’t get explored a lot but there’s still evidence of him being his own person#he’s not a yesman and he tells neil when his ideas are stupid (keeping the audition from his father) or he just doesn’t personally agree +#(the entire ‘no’ scene) and he functions perfectly well when neil isn’t around and while they aren’t focuses +#there are short scenes where todds alone or scenes that start eith them apart that make it clear they aren’t attatched to each other +#in the way people can often write them to be (that is in the trenches if the other is missing)#this post and all these tags are my long winded way of saying FUCK the codependent anderperry thing some people subscribe to it makes me#mad#neil’s goal is to help todd grow into himself and become his own person and find his identity more than anything#and todd doesn’t need neil to hold his hand to do literally anything and everything he’s a normal guy with anxiety#come on guys#dps#dead poets society#todd anderson

I know it’s been talked about ad nauseam, but I think one of the things that got lost in the discourse about TTPD and the muses and whatnot is how one of, if not the core trigger points of the album is the yearning for commitment and perhaps even more poignantly, motherhood.
The reason she was so susceptible to falling for the “conman’s get love quick schemes” is because she was grieving that imagined life with the person she had long assumed would be the one to give her that. What has been beyond clear in several albums, let alone interviews etc, is that those plans for building a family were very much real and top of mind for years, and she kept holding on and shifting her world in service of making that happen. And when whatever happened happened that pulled that rug out from under her, it left her bereft not just for the relationship that had once been her world but also the imagined family she had been hoping for and sticking out the hard times for.
And that’s likely why she was swayed by and trusting of the promises of someone who knew her history and knew how unmooring that loss was to her. It may have been partially about the person himself or lust or whatever, but the core issue was the pain of giving up the dream, and sublimating that dream into this new opportunity in front of her, because she was so desperate to hold onto the last scraps of that imagined life she wanted so badly. (And I don’t mean desperate as in pathetic or negative, I mean as in fighting within the last ounce of energy and hope she had.) It wasn’t rational and it wasn’t love, it was grief, not just for a relationship but even more so for the family it represented.
So to me the core issue of TTPD isn’t just the Joe vs. Matty or whoever of it all: it’s Taylor and her yearning. She wanted a family badly and a life that was theirs and was processing losing that in all kinds of ways. It’s all over the album in overt and subtle lyrics. It may not have been grieving a literal death but I’d bet it felt pretty darn close.
And I’d also bet that’s why we’re seeing… what we’re seeing now.
(I have so many more thoughts about womanhood and motherhood on TTPD but that is another post being worked on piecemeal in my drafts… this is just a little Saturday morning post-zoomies reflection)
#I’m trying to be delicate about all this on main#if you catch my drift#obviously I don’t know any of these people#I’m just using my ears with the music and my eyeballs on the screen#honestly think she’d almost gotten to the point where she would have given up almost anything#(including marriage)#if it meant having kids and a commitment#let alone all the career stuff she was willing to let slide#but in the end none of that mattered#writing letters addressed to the fire#the tortured poets department#and like..#this is also why she was so clear minded about what she wanted in a partner when she started dating killa#and not as in opportunist but as in she knew what she wouldn’t compromise on anymore#and luckily for her he was on the same page#and tbh why this isn’t all that fast#ugh I wish my brain would let me finish the other post I was working on#like I know we’ve kind of been dancing around this in recent years in discussion#even if we all had our own assumptions#but she kind of ripped the bandaid off in ttpd#and with ~everything~ now happening#I think it’s ok to talk about? respectfully? lol
