From the Archives (31/?) ↳ Emilie Autumn by Ken Settle, Pontiac, MI

These were the photos pitched to Playboy Magazine in 2009/2010. From a Throwback Thursday FB post by the photographer:

"Throwback Thursday!!! I just ran across this old shot from 2009 that Shane Glenn took of me photographing Emilie Autumn at The Eagle Theater in Pontiac, MI. in 2009. This was before I started shooting digital, so I have my circa 1981 Canon F-1s with the old FD lenses, and the ancient (1970s) Canon 533G flash gun!! I was shooting Kodachrome 64 with flash in one body, and available light Fujichrome 400 in the other body. Emilie's publicist had shared with Emilie that I was going to pitch the photos to Playboy, so they let me shoot the whole show. Emilie cooked up a surprise on the encore where she came out topless except for two strategically placed heart-shaped pasties that she made! That surprised the heck out of me, because no one told me she was going to do that! Emilie later told me that she came up with the idea!!! Playboy ended up running the shot!"

This might seem like an "old man yells at cloud" situation, but it's just wild growing up and being told how dangerous distracted driving is - how, at highway speeds, you can traverse the length of a football field (100 yards, 91 meters) in a matter of seconds - how one split second sending a text while driving could result in a potential fatal crash, and then getting on the road as a driver and being surrounded by billboards. Their entire purpose is to catch one's attention, so they're lining major roads, which tend to be highways. How is it that you're told how important it is to never be distracted while driving, but still being advertised to?

At best, this type of advertising is an eyesore to pedestrians and motorists and a general waste of electricity to light it, and at worst, it is an active danger considering they are there to advertise and therefore, must catch people's attention.

I'm not even against advertising in theory, but this particular mode bothers me so much and I hate how pervasive it is - especially in large cities or highways.

It's Done!

Three months of work from start to finish! All so I could finally present to the world:

So, I started this project in early August, mostly as something I could do during downtime of a then upcoming trip.

I had seen some absolutely amazing art pieces by @royalnaym which kinda gave me the idea that minecraft rendered in pixel art has a pretty interesting while still very recognizable look. At the same time I came across @groupcritpowerdynamics 's speedrun pastel pieces and those really inspired me to try depicting my favourite game in one of my favourite mediums!

In the middle of August 6th, while in the middle of packing for my trip to the UK, I decided I wanted to do this and I wanted to have it to work on during the trip, so I loaded up minecraft and went looking for a screenshot worthy of immortalization. Unfortunately I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so I made a brand new world and started looking around for the right vibes.

I knew I wanted a lone tree, and that if I ended up including the hot bar I wanted some hearts and food missing, so after running around for a few minutes I decided I would just do it myself and planted a sapling to serve as my centrepiece.

I gotta say I think the resemblance is striking!

And now as promised, the progress gif: mind the slight flashing, I did take these in all manner of different places including but not limited to: a plane, a handful of buses, and a small inn on the shores of England (not in that order).

It's pretty neat to me that you can see how different tones of lighting affect the perceived colour of the thread, I definitely noticed it more on this piece verses other larger stitch projects.

I love that Lumity don’t need to say ‘I love you’ to show that they love each other it’s so clear that they love each other

Amity always being there for Luz (also I love that she’s so patient with Luz in S3, she knows something is wrong but she doesn’t force Luz to say anything)

And Luz always smiling when she sees/ thinks of Amity in S3 (even with her guilt, Amity being there immediately makes her feel okay)

I love how clear it is that they love each other without either of them saying the words. It’s so so clear in everything they say and do, in the way they look at each other and talk about each other.

It’s obvious that Luz and Amity are in love with each other, even without words.

Isa is the one with a nightmare, as a treat :)

Ya know, obviously Siffrin (whose name auto correct keeps changing to suffering, which is pretty fitting lol) went through hell and back with the loops. All the angsty art and fics around that I totally get and love to see, however I like to imagine the toll their whole journey took on everyone…

It’s brought up in the game how the King’s power over Vuagarde had a huge impact on Bonnie with their sister + with Mirabelle having the weight of saving a country on her shoulders, but I can’t recall if anything was brought up with Isa and Odile? (Oh nooOOoOo, how awful I can’t remember! Guess I’ll just have to rewatch a let’s play of the game again! What a shame… /j) So yeah :3 Nightmares for everyone! Though Sif definitely has gotten quite a lot more baggage from their journey (which I do intend to make art of eventually..)

There's a little trend on sharing your favourite pieces of the year so I wanted to share some Rodya Doll images I haven't posted :>

I remade his wig but a lot of these are from the original photoshoot he had awee~ I attempted to make it a little more curly from the start but in an attempt to make his hair look gross it kind of straightened it out lol. I still have both wigs though...

Sometimes I think about making more dollies but IDK.. Maybe! This is a giant doll though I couldn't really do it like this again haha
