Got an assessment back from one of my applications and while I still don't know if they'll actually pick me or not it is a relief to have formal confirmation that my applications aren't considered embarrassingly bad.

#I am 'qualified with a relevant background and good grades' :D #(the latter part I can only take to mean they didn't look at/care about my undergrad grades which. good. whole point of my masters #grade-wise is proving I can do better than that when I'm not incredibly burnt out/having a mild mental breakdown)#I mean I assumed my supervisor would have warned me if I were submitting embarrassingly bad applications #but I did have that dream about a selection committee viciously tearing it apart & have been low-key worried ever since #....particularly good timing to get this on the day that I yet again failed to attend a careers fair I signed up to #which. sigh. I know. but. woke up late and tired and overstimulated and decided my time would be better spent trying to actually get some #progress on the thesis than hearing about how I could work for. checks notes. a sports betting company.#I still have time to make it to some of the less soul-sucky presentations though #liveblogging my masters

okay so the conference I applied to that’s supposed to give me an answer by Monday sent an email this afternoon that says I got a $500 grant “to support my participation” at the conference and links to a Google form to accept it. But crucially the email and form do not say anything about whether my paper was accepted. And it is now after 5pm on a Friday. I feel crazyyyyyyyy

Following some mysterious, lawful-good influence, you reach into your briefcase to check over your trial notes for a final time before everything begins. You open up the neatly-labeled file folder and—

Wait.

“Phoenix Wright??” you exclaim, barely suppressing the impulse to clutch onto Mr Gavin’s arm to steady yourself. “THAT’S Phoenix Wright? Famed lawyer, permanent underdog, the Turnabout Terror?”

Mr Gavin’s gaze turns frosty. “Disgraced lawyer, might I remind you. Following the…incident with that magician, he was disbarred.”

You’re still in shock—recalling the many hours you’d spent while at university poring over the transcripts of Wright’s cases. And now he’s on the stand, accused of murder?

Well, it isn’t the first time, you remind yourself. But this time he’s counting on you!

The sound of the judge’s gavel snaps you out of your spiraling thoughts, and you look up to see Wright on the stand. He seems almost nonchalant, leaning back with a hand grasping the railing.

The piercing voice of the prosecutor at the opposite bench fills the room as he begins his opening speech. “Mr Wright! You stand before the court today accused of murdering a man in cold blood over a game of poker at the Borscht Bowl Club. With this bottle—” here, the prosecutor holds up a deep green bottle, whose label proclaims that it once held grape juice—“you hit the victim, one Shadi Smith, over the head, killing him instantly!”

You check your notes. Seems that the prosecutor is called Payne, and what he says is the prosecution’s main argument. You find the eyes of the courtroom turning to you.

Actually Zhao Lusi would be my second pick for Fanny in an Asian Mansfield Park. My first is now Shin Eun Soo because well,, her portrayal of Cheong-ah in Twinkling Watermelon practically was Fanny already (albeit more rage-filled), and she was so good. Put her in a book-accurate adaptation with an accurate characterization of Fanny and people may actually start to value book!Fanny

Didn't get to smoke before work this morning (also not at all confident I took my meds) and while I'm managing the immense stress of the day (hello three new projects) rather well I'm reminded that the ritual of a spliff and a cup of coffee does in fact help keep my teeth dull and my temper subdued

#asked my fellow hiring committee members one of whom is my supervisor if i was really the only person who liked one candidate #and was blatantly honest that I think the issue at hand is the ego/insecurities of the man who oversees this role/department #and we have to toe the line of choosing someone good for the job and who wont be bullied by him/clash with him 24/7 #and id been shocked that i was the only one who saw potential in one or two candidates and ultimately i think it's due #to the fact im less willing to let the supervisors insecurities/ego play a role in this. and i said as much #and the response was a laugh and 'well shit everyone duck for cover he might hear us james is getting nasty '#and I'm not really im just tired of pretending like that isnt the core of the issue here. his ego has been wounded for the whole o last yeat #*year and now he's continuously making it everyone else's problem and whomever gets this role with be the Andy to his Miranda #except he has so little to offer in terms of real guidance i feel. hes going to bully and boast and be petty to whomever gets chosen #but any attempt to say that to leadership will get waved away ultimately because he's leadership and he's fought to get his own admin #so rather than get someone with a diverse and varied skill set who can match him in work and intensity #we'll end up with some kid who probably cant set boundaries and will get steamrolled completely #so yeah im irritated by the whole process. and my lack of meds today is making it hard to play nice about it

kissinger dying is so funny to me bc i was assigned him as a delegation in a historic MUN once and i left halfway through the conference......i foreshadowed him leaving halfway through life😭

#i was basically rping as an evil american guy the whole time bc i had no clue who he was prior to that competition #at one point i think i had someone IN COMMITTEE assassinated so that poor guy had to go make himself a completely different persona #for reference #usually MUNs have people representing countries but this was a fantasy committee set in 1978 and we were all historic people #p #kissinger
