breast cancer show ever is my favorite south park episode. i think that the whole plot line that sets up the fight scene in last few minutes of the episode makes it even more satisfying to watch cartman get the snot beaten out of him in the end.
cause first off, before this episode aired, there wasn’t really any point in the show where cartman truly got what he deserved. yeah some bad things had happened to him before, but he’s never truly gotten any form of karma for his actions.
Tumblr media
so when wendy says that she’s gonna fight him. he doesn’t take it all that seriously, just he expects to either easily win the fight or for wendy to back out before the end of the school day.
Tumblr media
and then at lunch he realizes that if he loses the fight, everyone will think he’s a massive loser. what makes this even funnier is that cartman genuinely believes that he’s “the cool kid” and that everyone likes him. so his fear of losing a fight to a girl (which is a big deal for fourth graders) makes him desperate to prevent it from happening, without apologizing in front of everyone of course.
Tumblr media
so now cartman does literally everything in his power to stop the fight before the school day ends.
he tries to apologize to wendy in private, without confessing that he was wrong in front of everyone.
he tries bribing her with money, and even goes as far as to eat his own underwear.
and near the end of the school day, he’s so desperate to get out of the fight that he goes up to his teachers desk and takes a dump on it in front of the whole class so he would get a detention. and then the fight was moved to the next morning. he wasn’t out of the fight yet he had time to find another strategy to stop wendy from beating the shit out of him.
Tumblr media
cartman then goes full tattletale mode and tells his mom a sob story of how wendy is bullying him at school, and how we just wants to be her friend. he even takes the extra mile to put a fancy cardigan on and comb his hair over to make himself look even more sad and pathetic.
so obviously wendys parents are like “hey don’t fight this kid” and she finally gives up.
Tumblr media
now, if cartman had just stopped there, he probably would’ve gotten away with his actions like he normally has up to this point in the show. but this is eric cartman, so he obviously has to take the extra mile in terrorizing her at school. he makes his school research paper about making fun of breast cancer, just to further show to wendy that there’s nothing she can do anymore since her parents have prevented her from fighting.
Tumblr media
then wendy gets called down to the principals office, and principal victoria is like “hey are you gonna beat up cartman” and wendy says no. then victoria is like “mmmm, are you sure about that?”
AND THEN SHE BASICALLY GIVES WENDY PERMISSION TO FUCKING DESTROY CARTMAN IN THE SCHOOL PLAYGROUND. she calls him a “fat little lump of cancer” that needs to be “fought.” i find this scene so funny cause it just shows that literally everyone, including the adults and school faculty wants to see cartman get some form of karma.
and then the actual fight scene itself is one of the best moments in the entire show. here’s a list of things that i love about it.
Tumblr media
wendy pulls up to the playground with a bunch of students following her. some of the kids are from different grade levels, which shows that literally everyone wants to see cartman get beaten up.
and wendy also puts her hair up in a bun and takes off her coat so we can see her my little pony tank top, so you know that she means BUSINESS.
Tumblr media
the face that cartman makes when he realizes that he can no longer manipulate or gaslight his way out of the fight without backing out in front of the entire school, which he can’t do since he believes that he’s the “cool kid.”
Tumblr media
cartman having to pull up his pants after the first punch that wendy threw made him fall over.
Tumblr media
and lastly, how butters gets so excited to see them fight. he’s been egging them both on throughout the entire episode, and he gets so happy when wendy finally shows up at the playground.
also, when he yells “FUCK HIM UP WENDY!” was so funny
anyways 10/10 episode it’s so funny

Ok but as much as I love the corruption arc jokes, I do think one of the best things about Greg’s character is that he was never actually a particularly great person. He’s always been incredibly entitled and weasely; his wealth/exposure to the Roys has simply made it much more obvious.
In the literal second episode of the show, Greg drops his little “I thought you all might be talking about me” line. Despite his great uncle, the father of the people he’s been hanging out with, being on his deathbed, he genuinely believes that they’ve been talking about him and his possible job offer this whole time. The kid’s got an ego the size of a blimp under all the awkward, out of place bumbling and funny turns of phrase, and though I understand that he was quite literally out of money and desperate, that doesn’t change the fact that the only thing he cared about through the whole stroke crisis was his own financial situation. He thought he was owed his nepotism job, and that was all that mattered.
Plus for all that he tried to play the “I have principles” card in season 2, it’s clear even as he says it that he’s quite willing to bend those principles when he doesn’t have to look directly at the results, or when bending them benefits him. He doesn’t want to work at ATN because he knows the network is toxic and harmful, but he’s just fine with working at other branches within the same company. And not only that, but he seems to have completely blocked out the fact that Logan, whom he seems to genuinely like at that point in the series, owns, runs, and watches fucking ATN. Logan is the source of all that toxicity he tries to decry, but it’s easier to ignore from him, so he does. Plus, when he asks to change departments because he doesn’t want to work for ATN anymore, he’s very easily satisfied by the offer of a promotion within the network instead. He doesn’t want to work for Fox News, unless working for them means a big raise and a fancy new title.
Greg is much nicer on a surface level than the other Roys, but he’s never been a particularly good person. Money and power haven’t changed him so much as they’ve just brought his pre-existing flaws to the surface in a much brighter light. He’s been managing to weasel his way out of pretty much everything so far without facing any real consequences or making many real decisions, plus he’s been gaining a bunch of money and privilege, so of course he’s getting worse. He gets a thrill out of being rich and powerful and treated like he matters. (Remember how excited he was when Tom called him family in the death pit scene? He loves the idea of being a Roy, toxicity or not, because of all the meaning that the family name carries).
So like, he really hasn’t developed any new negative traits. He’s escalated from “I’m entitled to this nepotism job, even if my uncle is sick” to “I’m entitled to my inheritance, even if I have to sue greenpeace to get it,” but the entitlement was always there. He’s escalated from “I’ll keep my job at the bad network because I got promoted” to “I’ll hang out with the alt right for a while because they’re cheering for me,” but he’s always been a hypocrite. And honestly, I think this is one of the best things about his character. Him and Shiv are both really great examples of a certain kind of liberal-adjacent performative morality that you don’t see in media very often, but which is everywhere IRL. I don’t think either of them (and especially not Greg) realize how false and hollow their claims of goodness really are, and it’s fascinating.

“DON’T CALL ME KID! DON’T CALL ME BABY! LOOK AT THIS GODFORSAKEN MESS THAT YOU MADE ME!” inspired by folklore.
.
.
.
“Did anyone see you leave?”
“No,” Harry said, leaning back and spreading his legs as she worked his zip down. She’d been thinking about this all day, but he didn’t have to know that. If men knew how much you wanted them, they’d only want you less At least that was from her personal experience.
She took his cock out of his pants, fingers curling over the smooth, hot skin of his shaft and sliding up to tease at the edge of his foreskin. The head of Harry’s prick was already slick, and she sucked his precum off her fingers before licking her palm and stroking and squeezing around him until he whimpered. They had done this so many times that she knew his body even better than he did. She knew how to work him up, how to run her thumb over the head of his cock so he’d buck into her grip and whimper her name. But she didn’t want to hurry.
She struggled a bit to get her pants off, hating that they were in the backseat of his car instead of her place or his. They’d usually meet at hers, but her neighbour was having a party tonight; it’d be impossible for Harry to come and go without being recognised and photographed. But she didn’t need a fancy hotel room or a comfortable bed, because they were just hooking up. Nothing more, nothing less.
“Should have worn a blood dress,” she muttered, fighting her bunched-up jeans and kicking them under the front seat.
Harry laughed, but as soon as she peeled off her damp panties, his breath caught and his nostrils flared. She knew his car would smell like them at the end of the night when he drove home alone, and something about that erotic thought turned her on even more.
She gracefully slid into his lap. His hand slipped down to stroke at the silky heat of her pussy, two fingers opening her up, spreading her slick and rubbing at her clit until she began to tremble. She clutched his wrist to still him so she wouldn’t come on his fingers then kissed him before he could say a word. She bit his lip, curled her free hand into his messy hair, and moved her hips so she could rub the thick crown of his cock against her.
She’d been on the pill lately, so it was easy to just grab for his dick and guide it into her. He loved it when she told him how big he was, how full she made her feel, murmuring filthy words into his ear as he fucked her, hard and fast, flushed with the praise. But when they were as horny as they were tonight, she didn’t have to say anything; she couldn’t. Her mouth hung open without making a sound as she felt the first, deep, blunt push of his cock into her pussy. It always ached a little no matter how many times they’d had sex. He always stretched her so good, but she was too wet to need a pause.
“God, I missed you,” he hissed, filling her to the brim as she settled into his lap. She tried to ignore the effect those words had on her, and to not wonder if he really missed her or only what she was willing to give him.
She clung onto his neck and shoulders and clenched down as his hand went under her thighs, lifting her, moving her on the length of his cock. The head slid over her g-spot, and she gasped and ground harder against him. His fingers clenched around the backs of her thighs as he let her set the pace and planted sloppy kisses down the side of her neck. He nuzzled her hair out of the way and made small noises against her hot skin.
She rode him faster, snapping her hips against his and making him moan. She wondered if they were shaking the car and somehow felt thankful for the fact that the car park was empty. They weren’t trying to keep it lowkey anymore.
Harry whispered her name as his fingers dug into her thighs. She can feel his dick flexing inside her. She knew he was close. He always waited on her like a true gentleman, and she kissed him clumsily as she slid a hand down to rub at her clit.
What shoved her to the edge was the way Harry groaned and bit his lip as her moving fingers brushed the base of his cock. His hips jerked, and they were both so close for each other. Her slick pussy started pulsing as she sobbed into his mouth and he squeezed her tighter, so tight she could feel his fingernails leaving marks in the soft flesh of her thighs. She would go home alone with those marks as a reminder of this moment, and she’d either feel bad about it or want him even more. Usually both.
“Yes, baby, come for me.”
And those were the words that set her off. Him calling her baby was her ultimate weakness, even if it might not mean anything to him. His thrusts were getting faster, messier, driving into the tight clench of her as she cried out and ground her hips. She shuddered against him as she came again.
“Gonna,” he whispered, his hips stuttering and his fingers tightened, and then he was spurting hotly into her, filling her up until his come was trickling back down over his balls. She was already thinking of the way he’d have to tug his coat close just in case he ran into the paps. Meanwhile, she would go back to her flat still feeling the hot pulse of him having been in her. Everything about it was dirty, and she loved it.
Harry rested his head back as she started nipping at the side of his neck, feeling his pulse racing beneath her lips. “That was...so good,” she said, still breathless.
“I know.” He gave a soft laugh which turned to a groan as she slipped off his still-hard, sensitive cock. She grabbed his face and pulled his lips back to hers. His hands burned against her back, drawing her close.
They’d had sex, again. And he still wanted her.
She had no idea why she must reassure herself that he wanted her every single time they were together. Perhaps because this felt surreal. Because if she told her teenage self that someday she’d be having sex with Harry in the backseat of his car, that girl would not believe it. In her memory, Harry had always been untouchable. Yet here he was, burying his face into her neck and inhaling her scent as if she were air. She could feel his heartbeat against her chest. This felt real. Even though she knew it was anything but.
“Kid.”
His voice snapped her back to reality. Her eyes flinched open and she saw his face twisted with worry as he took her wrist and removed her arm around his neck.
Her heart wavered at the thought that he’d finally decided that this was wrong and wanted to end this. Wouldn’t it be cruel? To say he didn’t want this anymore after he’d just finished inside her? Would he tell her to get out of the car and leave her here all on her own?
To her surprise and confusion, he lifted her arm, still catching his breath. That was when she realized he was peering at the scars on her forearm. “How did you get these?” he asked.
“I fell.”
“When?”
A few weeks ago.” She giggled. “It’s no big deal. I was running for the bus and the pavement was slippery.”
Harry frowned. His gaze slipped from hers as he leaned in and pressed a kiss to the scar. Her heart leapt involuntarily. And she hated herself for it.
“Remember when I used to draw stars around your scars,” he whispered, his dimples darkening in the dim streetlight. The memory of the happier days warmed her from inside out, and she felt it showing on her face.
“Because I said my legs looked ugly after my bike accident,” she said timidly.
“You fell a lot back then.” Harry looked up, his forehead creasing as if he was trying to remember one of those times. “I thought you’d get less clumsy when you grew up but I guess I was wrong.”
Grinning, she wrapped her arms around his neck. “You can always draw stars around my new scars.”
“Or,” he kissed the corner of her mouth, “you can stop running in the rain.”
She laughed as she kissed him again and pretended that they weren’t in the backseat of his car in an empty car park, that they didn’t have to sneak around, that whatever she was feeling right now was valid, that he would rather be with her than go back to the world where she did not belong.
And so they finished cleaning up and laughing for a whole minute about the stain on his crotch. As she pulled her jeans back on and he adjusted his clothes, what had felt like a euphoric rush now felt like shame and a bit of regret. She shrugged it right off. It was normal. No one should be proud if they had to drive to a place like this to have sex just so they wouldn’t be seen together.
Then, the thought of them being seen together briefly crossed her mind. How would he react if the world found out? Would he be ashamed? Would he end this? Or would he say fuck it and risk it all for her?
She twisted her hair into a low bun, secured it with her scrunchie and turned to face him. To her surprise, he was giving that goofy dimpled smile that her thirteen-year-old self would write ten pages about in her journal. It was funny how he’d always been so close yet always felt a thousand miles away. She knew she was his girl, but had he ever been hers?
She reached up to fix his hair, only using it as an excuse to run her fingers through it. He took another glance at her scars and frowned a bit, which made her wonder why they bothered him so much. Was he finally paying attention to her imperfections?
“Have you got a pen?” he asked.
She looked at him funny but still answered, “Yeah, I always carry one around to take notes.” Then she reached for her bag in the passenger seat, fumbled for her black pen and gave it to him.
He clicked the pen open and scooted closer, tucking her arm under his as he held onto her wrist and carefully drew stars around her scars.
“Really?” she giggled, and he shushed her.
“Don’t move. Do you want ugly stars?”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“Oh, baby, when I’m done, you’ll want to get ‘em tattooed.”
Her smile thinned as a chill coursed through her. He needed to warn her before calling her baby. It did inexplicable things to her; things she wasn’t so proud of.
“There you go,” he said and clicked the pen close with a victorious smirk upon his face.
She peered at the stars he’d drawn and raised both eyebrows. “Not bad.”
“Hey, I’m twenty-four years old. I should draw better than when I was thirteen,” he said with a shrug, laced their fingers together and kissed the back of her hand, as one would to their girlfriend. Why was she thinking of that word right now? What had gotten into her? She wasn’t this person.
The sound of a text broke the silence in the car and Harry groaned loudly before fumbling into the pocket of his coat draped around the driver’s seat. He unlocked the screen, the bright light illuminating his face. His dimples deepened as he read the message and typed something into his phone. She heard a whoosh of the message being sent, then a ding of a new one arriving. The serenity of their own world had been intruded by this person who was texting him.
She didn’t want to care who it was, who made him smile and shake his head and bite his lip as he thought of something to write back to make the person smile, too. She didn’t want to care if he was going to see this person once he’d dropped her off. She didn’t want to know if he’d wake up alone tomorrow or in bed with a beautiful woman. That wasn’t how their ‘thing’ was supposed to work. She was supposed to mind her own business. But she wasn’t to blame, for he wasn’t supposed to draw stars around her scars, kiss them like he meant it, and called her ‘kid’ and ‘baby’ as if this was special.
It wasn’t.
She wasn’t.
“It’s late,” he said and tucked his phone into the pocket of his jeans. It’s not late, she wanted to say, but she didn’t. “I’ll drive you home.”
She felt the urge to ask if he had other plans later. The question lingered at her throat, yet she swallowed it down.
“I can walk home,” she said, putting on her coat as he’d already put on his and seemed so eager to get rid of her.
“Alone? At this hour?” he asked, his eyes wide. “Kid, don’t be ridiculous. I’ll drive you.”
“It’s too risky,” she sighed. “I bet that most of my neighbour’s party guests are just arriving. His parties usually last all night long.”
She’d almost used it as an excuse to spend the rest of the night with Harry. She guessed it wasn’t happening now. She could either let him drive her home to get some more time with him or be smart about this and not put themselves in danger of being seen together. They weren’t so far from her block and she didn’t mind walking.
“I can’t let you walk home alone at night, Bambi,” he said. There was the same tone that her father would use. Moments like this reminded her that he was older and she would always be just a kid to him.
“Fine. I’ll call Alice to pick me up.”
Alice was her co-worker. But of course, she wasn’t going to bother Alice.
Harry studied her expression for a long moment as if to check if she was lying. Surprisingly, he believed her, or he had no choice but to believe her so he could leave as fast as he could.
“All right,” he said, leaned in and kissed her forehead, his lips hot against her skin. “Call me when you get home safe, okay?”
“Okay.” She pressed her lips into a smile and got out of the car.
Harry insisted on waiting until Alice arrived, but she threatened him with the fact that Alice was a big fan of his, and she’d be the last person who should find out about their “thing”, whatever this was. So Harry left first. The pained expression that he gave her before he drove off somehow made her feel reassured. Or was she just looking for any sign that showed that he cared about her more than he appeared to be?
Tearing her gaze from the empty street, she secured her bag on her shoulder and wrapped her arms tightly around herself. As she walked home, she kept pulling up her sleeve to check if the stars Harry had drawn were still there. She knew she’d have to wash them off later in the shower. Still, she wanted to keep them as good as new for as long as they lasted.
The longer she looked at them, however, the heavier her heart became. She could not help but recall the feeling she’d had when he’d kissed them, and guilt washed over her as her heart started sinking to the bottom of her chest. And so she told herself this would be the last time, that she’d not answer his call ever again. No more secret meetings and false hopes and daydreaming. If she didn’t want to bleed, she should stop running in the rain.
But there was something about running in the rain – the excitement, the longing, the feeling of being washed clean even though you’d arrived home shivering, drenched, and covered in mud. And so she knew this wouldn’t be the last time. She’d keep running until she fell and could not get up.

Fancy Paper Napkins
because doesn’t everybody eat their fancy meals with fancy paper napkins ...
Our Moments: Chapter 1: Five Words (post-Leonard Betts) Chapter 2: Sidebar Nonsense (post-Memento Mori) Chapter 3: Interim (floating somewhere around Unrequited) Chapter 4: Max 2.0 (post-Tempus Fugit/Max) Chapter 5: Shadowed Grey Eyes Chapter 6: The Warmest Thing I Own Chapter 7: Fancy Paper Napkins @today-in-fic
&&&&&&&&&&
He actually slept, his mind calm, until he heard her whispering in his ear, “what are you cooking and when will it be ready?”
Opening his eyes, he saw hers staring at him, awake and bright, “what?”
“I’m hungry and I saw the crockpot plugged in.”
He broke into a grin, more from her proximity than anything else and forcing himself not to look at her mouth, not to think of that kiss, “mushrooms. Garlicy, buttery mushrooms that have been slow cooking in the crockpot,” looking over her head at the clock, “for four hours.” Sitting up quickly, “shit. I have to go stir them.”
Rolling off the bed, he disappeared down the hall, Scully close behind, “they won’t burn.”
“I’ll feel better when I see for myself.” Finally in the kitchen, he opened the crockpot, stirred with the big spoon, and glad to see the mushrooms soft and unburned, offered Scully a taste. Refusing with an, ‘I’d like to wait for dinner,’ he nodded towards the fridge, “go grab the steak, would you?”
They ate like civilized people, at the kitchen table, forks, knives, fancy paper napkins …
… “I refuse to use cloth ones because they’re too damn hard to clean.”
… “Did I say anything?”
… “No.”
… “Then why are you arguing at me?”
and a bottle of not-so-cheap wine Mulder found in his travels through Scully’s cupboards.
“I shouldn’t drink this.”
“Will it lower your inhibitions? Will you sweep off the coffee table and dance on it if I wave a bunch of ones at you? Will you tell me all your secrets?”
She couldn’t keep her hand from shaking as she poured them both glasses, “mostly I’m thinking that it’ll make me fall asleep even early that I probably would have already.”
Ignoring the tremor, “as long as you stay awake enough for ice cream.”
“I will do my best.”
She made it through half the steak, a bowl of mushroom, and three spoons of mashed potatoes, before finally giving in, trading her plate for Mulder’s empty, who continued to eat without pause. Watching him, she had to smile, “thank you.”
“For finishing your food? No problem.”
Not able to articulate at that particular moment that she was actually thanking him for a thousand things at once, she simply agreed, wondering if he’d figure it out on his own, “yeah, I wouldn’t want it to go to waste.”
Giving her a grin, he finished her food, then stood, “give me ten minutes to do dishes and put everything away, then we’ll argue about movies.”
“Let me load the dishwasher, at least. You won’t do it right and I’ll just have to redo it when you’re not looking.” Standing as well, she bumped hips with him as she walked past, “save me the trouble.”
Twisting up his leg, he hit her on the butt with his stocking foot, “smartass.”
They finally settled on several movies but still sitting on the couch, facing a blank TV and a window with a sunset just beginning to tint the room pink, Mulder gently poked her in the side, “how’re you doing?”
Feeling the urge to move, to take advantage of feeling okay for the moment, “I think I’d like to go for a walk.”
Up immediately, he leaned in, kissing the tip of her nose, “any destination in mind?”
“Just … around.”
“Around it is.”
&&&&&&&&&
Warm enough to wander without jackets, they headed out her front door and turned left, bare arm brushing bare arm as they walked. They didn’t say much, commenting on scurrying squirrels here, a cute cat in the window there, Mulder catching a waywardly stumbling child tripping past, “geez, if I had known we were going to be experiencing a Norman Rockwell painting, I would have combed my hair and put on a clean shirt.”
Her laughter hit his ears like his favorite song and reaching over, he took her hand, never asking, never letting go as they circled and turned, ambled and veered. She didn’t argue, her thin, cool fingers enjoying his warmth.
But even on her best days lately, she gave in quicker than she’d have liked, 45 being the magic number of minutes she lasted until, “I think I’m ready for some ice cream.”
Giving her hand a squeeze, “ice cream it is. What kind should we start with?”
Discussion ensued and by the time they were in their pajamas, they’d settled on dark fudge and peanut butter swirl to begin with. Two spoons dove in, two spoons sampled, occasionally Scully would pull her loaded spoon out and looking at Mulder, found his mouth wide open, waiting expectantly.
And by God, she fed him.
The first time felt a little weird but by the third time he did it, she was laughing, “can you not feed yourself fast enough?”
“Nope.”
That was good enough for her.
Once the gorging finished, they’d had at least one spoonful out of each carton Mulder had bought, six in all, the flavors running the gambit and Scully full and happy and sleepy. “Are you going to be able to sleep with all that sugar in your system?”
Mulder grinned, chocolate rimming his lips, “if not, I’ll have a TV to keep me company while you drool all over your pillow.” A relieved sigh, one she didn’t know she was holding, escaped, and Mulder cocked his head, suddenly worried, “y’a’right?”?”
And deciding there was no reason not to tell him, “I think I was nervous you were going to go home tonight and,” another sigh, this one embarrassed, “it’s been a really nice day and if you went home, it would be over and,” slight wobbly smile appearing, “I don’t want it to be over just yet.”
Knowing something funny was in order, he raised an eyebrow in her direction, “is that some veiled attempt at asking me to move in here?”
Her smile steadied, “just go start the movie.”
&&&&&&&&&
Midnight rolled around and even though Scully had given in and gone to bed, Mulder was still awake and indeed watching TV, some cooking show he’d never admit to enjoying but enjoyed nonetheless. The sound was off and suddenly, the quiet of the darkened apartment was broken by Scully calling from the bedroom, “Mulder?”
It didn’t sound like a nightmare which, in his mind, could only mean she needed help. Jogging down the hall, he was in her doorway a second later, “yeah? You okay?”
Still laying down, she met his nervous gaze, her own a unique brand of terrified confusion, “am I still here?”
Immediately walking to the other side of the bed, he crawled under the covers, his hand meeting her cheek after she rolled over to face him, “yeah. You’re right here, in your bed.” When her terror didn’t fade, he continued, quieter, moving to meet her forehead with his, “you’re with me, in your apartment,” hand moving to the back of her neck, “whatever you dreamt wasn’t real.”
“It will be.” Feeling the bed shake as she hitched a silent sob, she managed a cracked whisper, “I don’t want to die.” Her fingers ran over his cheek, his ear, “I don’t want to go anywhere without you.”
The tear escaped before he could blink it away but he kept the others in, reservoir full but holding, “we’re gonna beat this. I guarantee it.”
She couldn’t bring herself to believe him anymore and she couldn’t keep up the lie at this hour, “you don’t know that.”
“But I choose to believe it.” Hand in her hair by now, he pulled her close enough that their noses were smushed together and eyelashes tangled, “I need to believe it.”
Maybe she could pretend a little more after all, “do you believe enough for both of us?”
“I believe enough for this whole damn world. You should know that by now.”
She could only nod against him, bringing their mouths to millimeter distances but refraining, crippling fear not a good enough reason to cross the line between them, “can you stay right here with me, tonight?”
He crossed it for them, a quick brush of lips, a quick nuzzle of noses, “I won’t move until you do.”
“I don’t want you to leave me alone.”
Both knew the translation of that:
I don’t want to die alone.
&&&&&&&&
The next morning, Scully opened her eyes to find Mulder still sharing her pillow, not touching anymore but close enough to have him blurry in front of her instead of clear. For five seconds, she forgot her world and felt warm fuzzies chasing through her, up and down her spine, settling low.
Then, reality set in with a resounding thud.
Pulling back, she sat up, turning quickly so he wouldn’t see the tears racing down her face. Neither could ignore the echoing sob, however and Mulder, already half-awake, sat up, confusion clearing in a heartbeat as he slid across the mattress, arm around her front, hugging her back to his chest. Kissing her neck and that hated, fucking scar, “we’re gonna win. I swear to God, we’re gonna win.”
And they cried together.

Me and my thots
Read on ao3
-
Billy didn’t black out when the first limb clamped onto his side.
He figured he would.
Figured the searing pain would cause his brain to short.
But it didn’t.
He didn’t even drop when the next one hit, chomping into his other side.
He figures the adrenaline was keeping him going.
And probably the other-worldly strength from whatever bits of the creature was left in him.
All he knows is that the final one pierced his chest.
And he didn’t lose consciousness.
Not as he fell.
Not as Max hovered over him.
Not as he heard shouts, and felt hands pressing into his wounds.
He woke with a start.
He shook the dream out of his head, rolling to press both fists into his eyes.
He slid out from under the thick duvet, pulling it up and over the sleeping form of the person next to him.
Like he did every morning.
He scratched his chest, making his way over to their sunny little kitchen, getting the coffee going.
It’s been a while since he’s dreamed about the Mind Flayer.
In his thirty years since that night at the mall, he’s gotten enough therapy to break most of it down, to accept what happened to him, what he was forced without question to do.
He startled as arms slipped around his waist.
“You okay?”
Steve’s voice was sleep groggy, his chin hooked over Billy’s shoulder.
“Yeah, Pretty Boy. I’m alright.”
Steve placed his hand over the faded scar on Billy’s chest, kissing his shoulder blade once.
Billy turned to look at him, taking in the sparse grey hairs Steve liked to complain about, the soft lines near his eyes.
Billy sucked in a gasp of air when he woke, spluttering as his lungs burned.
He was in the hospital, his heart monitor going haywire.
Nurses flooded the room, but Billy paid them no mind, his eyes locking on the big brown ones.
Steve had pushed himself against the wall, giving the nurses room to check him over.
He doesn’t know how long it’s been since the mall, just knows hat Steve’s face looks hurt, old bruises turning yellow and green as they healed.
He was stabilized, and he felt more steady. His breathing still hurt, but he was doing it on his own.
The few nurses made their way out once again.
“Jesus, Hargrove. Scared me half to death.” Steve didn’t sound scared. He sounded relieved. “I was almost asleep and then you took this giant breath, Christ.”
Steve’s hands were shaking as he lowered himself into a plastic chair facing Billy’s bed.
“Sorry.”
Billy’s voice was hoarse, and it hurt to talk.
“How long-?”
“A few weeks.” Then Steve’s face got hurt that same night.
It was odd looking at him.
He looked so young, not the face dream Billy was used to, the face of a grown man.
“Hargrove, you okay?”
And echo of that dream.
And boy did that hurt, the realization that it was a dream.
His idyllic life with Steve.
Nothing but his subconscious. Probably creating something to keep him calm while his body healed in a coma.
“Why you here?” Speaking still burned his throat. He wished he had some water.
Maybe even tea.
Steve usually makes him a nice chamomile tea when he’s sick. Puts some fresh lemon juice and honey in there. They have a lemon tea in the backyard.
He shook himself.
That was just a dream.
“Been worried about you, man.” Steve wasn’t looking at him.
Steve has trouble with eye contact.
Years spent with a father that forced it only to berate Steve for-
What the fuck. His daydream kept bleeding over, giving him all this nonsense about the dream version of Steve he had conjured up.
“Don’t know why.”
Steve looked at him then.
“Really pulled some shit, didn’t I?”
“That doesn’t mean you, you deserve to die, or something. You weren’t in control.”
“Was that night I beat your face in.”
Steve looked away again.
“Water under the bridge.”
Steve once told him he doesn’t know what that expression means, just that he’s heard people use it in situations like this.
“You don’t even know what that means.” Billy couldn’t stop himself.
He just blurted it out.
And Steve gave him a funny look.
Because of course he does. Because this Steve, this real Steve is different than the coma fantasy one Billy conjured up.
“Well, no. But people usually say it like that, don’t they?”
And Billy just stared at him.
And then his vision went hazy around the edges, and he slipped back into darkness.
“Which one?”
Steve was holding up two pairs of swim trunks. Billy was just staring at his ass.
“You know I like those little green ones.”
Steve threw him a look over his shoulder.
“I don’t think the green ones even fit anymore.”
Steve sometimes got self conscious about himself. His thighs had thickened up considerably, his ass getting plumper too. And his belly was soft, doughy, and perfect for squishing.
But the green shorts fit, even though they were tight.
And Billy loved his older body, loved when Steve put on some extra fluff. A chubby Steve meant a happy Steve. And Billy would know.
You learn a lot about a person in thirty-some years.
Steve was dressed now, shouldering a bag.
“Beach time?” His eyes were bright.
“Beach time.”
They held hands as they walked.
The air smelled like ocean spray.
The beach was close to their little house, and they found their usual spot right away, far from any other beach patrons.
“Hargrove!”
Billy came to with a start, back in the cold hospital room, back with a younger Steve.
What the fuck was going on?
“Sorry, you kinda passed out. I thought you were slipping back under, or something.”
Steve looked sheepish.
“It’s fine.”
It wasn’t. Not totally.
Because Billy wanted to live in that fucking daydream for the rest of his goddamn life.
“Sorry, I should let you sleep. I mean you’re probably exhausted.” Steve stood up, gathering the few things he had with him, a water bottle, and empty coffee cup, and a book. An old worn out copy of The Outsiders.
That’s dream Steve’s favorite book. He reads it once every year. He said it was the first book he ever read in class that actually gripped him. The only one he actually took the time to push through his rampant dyslexia to read and understand.
He won’t be diagnosed dyslexic until he’s 23. He’ll feel really vindicated and Billy will take him out for a fancy dinner. They’ll go skinny dipping in the ocean after and Steve will whine the whole time.
Billy hadn’t realized he had been staring at Steve the whole time that all ran through his brain, not until Steve snapped his fingers in front of him.
“Billy!”
“Yeah, what? Sorry.”
“Are you okay? Should I get a nurse?”
“No, I just-” he tried to scrub a hand down his face, found his muscles screamed out at the movement of his muscles after who knows how long in that bed.
It didn’t matter anyway, as his hands were wrapped up in a mitten of bandages.
“Was havin’ a good dream.”
“What was it about?”
Billy couldn’t look at Steve. Couldn’t look at those big brown eyes, couldn’t search for the specks of gold, the streaks of green that he knows are there.
“Future. Dream future, I guess.”
“Do you-” Steve hesitated, and Billy finally looked at him, watched as he reached up to tug on a lock of hair near the crown of his head. A nervous tick he’s had since he was a kid. “Do you wanna share?”
“California. Little house by the beach. Slice of Heaven, really.”
“A wife?”
“Been married for a few years.”
“She pretty?”
“The prettiest.”
Steve smiled at him softly.
“Sorry you had to wake up to me, then.”
And that? That made Billy wanna tear out his own damn hair. Made him wanna pull Steve to lay on top of him the way they both like, pet through Steve’s hair, tell him how goddamn perfect you are, Sugar.
“It’s okay. Prefer your company.”
“I guess I’m alright if the alternative is being alone.”
“Cut that out.”
Steve blinked at him.
“We’ve been talking like, five minutes and all you’ve done is apologize and talk shit on yourself.”
“Sorry, I- it’s just a habit, I guess.” He was back to playing with his hair. Being a little rougher, tugging on the lock between his fingers a bit. Billy sighed as well as he could with his burning lungs.
“Just, I like it that you’re here, okay? I’d tell you to beat it if I wanted you gone.”
And Steve smiled at him.
One of his six real smiles, not one of the eleven fake ones.
Billy can tell.
Because the real ones make his nose scrunch a bit. They make his eyes go bright and his shoulders bunch up.
And he must’ve fallen back into that dream again, because suddenly he was looking at his Steve, his grown up Steve, giving him that exact same real smile as Billy ran wet fingers over his skin.
And he pulled Steve close to him in the shower, mouthing at the skin of his neck.
And if this was a dream, he was going to burn all of this into his memory.
The way Steve’s skin tastes, the way he gasps when Billy nibbles at his ear. The way Billy feels buried deep inside him, in the soft bed that they share, the one that took months to buy because Steve is weirdly picky about bedframes for no discernible reason.
And just as he was watching Steve’s face crumple, as he was trying to memorize the exact noises he makes as he cums, he was jolted out of his dream by the real Steve, fucking sneezing.
“Sorry.” He looked distressed. “You were like, really asleep and I, I tried to hold it back.”
“’S okay. Know you got that dust thing.”
Billy was drowsy. He felt like he was inches underwater, everything moving slowly around him. Almost like the world was a little muffled.
Turns out his last dose of pain meds had been administered while he was out.
“Wait, what dust thing?”
“Got that. You know. You’re allergic to dust. And peanuts. And cashews. And-the green ones.”
“Pistachios?”
“Yeah.”
“How do you know that?”
“You told me. Nearly fuckin’ killed you first time we really made out. I had just eaten a PB and J. Sent you into anaphylaxis.”
Billy felt himself drifting, that perfect dreamland tugging him back.
And then there was a cold hand on his arm, shaking him gently.
“Billy, Billy don’t fall asleep. You gotta, Billy what the fuck? We haven’t made out. We, how do you know what I’m allergic to?”
But Billy was swallowed up by sleep once again.
He was laying next to Steve, stretched out on their bed, Steve’s head resting on his shoulder.
“Today was nice. Haven’t had a day like that in such a long time.”
“We should do it more often, then. Call outta work and hang out at the beach all day.”
Steve rolled a bit to glare playfully at Billy.
“Some of us don’t have the luxury of setting our own hours, Mr. Boss Man.”
“Billy!”
And he was back, back to staring at the pale nervous face of Young Steve.
“Billy, you’re scaring me.”
Sunlight was beginning to haze through the meager window at the end of the hospital room. Billy hadn’t had any idea of time since he got here.
Steve looked like shit, like he hadn’t slept all night.
“Billy, I don’t know if you remember, everything you said before you fell asleep but-”
“I remember.”
Steve furrowed his brows.
“How do you know that? About, about my allergies. And yesterday, you said, you said I didn’t know what water under the bridge meant. And you said, that we m-made out.”
Billy sighed again, his lungs protesting the effort.
“My dream. The future. You’re the person. My person. And now it’s like, whatever Dream Billy knows about Dream Steve I know. And I figured I just, like, made all that shit up.”
Steve was studying his face.
“Okay, then let’s see if you’ve just had some lucky guesses. Tell me what else you know, and maybe it’s all wrong.”
And Billy didn’t really like the way Steve looked like he hoped is was all wrong. Like he didn’t wanna be tied to Billy in this way.
Billy narrowed his eyes.
“When you were fourteen you watched A Streetcar Named Desire with your mom and you credit Marlon Brando as your queer awakening.”
Steve’s eyes went wide, his mouth trembling.
“Your dad has smacked you once in your life, and it’s when you got the rejection letter from Indiana State. You hid the letter from him because you knew he’d be mad, but he found it and hit you and didn’t talk to you for nearly a month.”
Steve’s eyes were shining now.
“Your mom used to always talk about how much she wished you guys could have a better garden, but because it gets so cold here, she can’t grow anything. The house we have in the daydream has like, a huge fucking garden in it, by the way. I hate gardening but you love it.”
Steve stood abruptly, pacing the length of the room in front of Billy’s bed. Billy just kept going.
It was like everything was ready to burst out of him. To prove that he knows Steve, that he loves Steve. Even if this Steve is somehow different to Dream Steve.
“You go fucking batshit over corn on the cob, just with a little butter and salt on there. That’s somehow your favorite food. Because you’re the most Midwesterner to ever Midwestern, I guess. Your second favorite food is your grandmother’s lasagna. You keep trying to recreate her recipe and no matter how much I tell you it’s fucking delicious, you always get this little pout going and explain to me about how it’s not quite right. You only started smoking because-”
“That’s, I think that’s enough.”
Steve looked like a strong gust of wind would knock him right over.
“It true.?”
“It’s, it’s all true. In, in detail. I mean the, the letter, and my dad. I swore I was never gonna tell anyone about that.”
“It took you a few years. We were talking about my dad. How he treated me, and you admitted that. How sometimes you think about that one time and it makes you sad because that was my everyday-” Billy cut himself off.
Because fuck.
He forgot that Steve knows jack fucking all about Billy.
Which means Steve was currently giving him that look, that wide-eyed, nostrils flared, mouth tight look that he always did when he was angry on Billy’s behalf.
It was kinda hot.
“Excuse me?”
“Forgot my apparent psychic abilities were limited to just me knowing about you.”
“Billy, did your dad hit you?”
And Billy kinda saw no point in lying anymore.
“All the damn time.”
And Steve was back to pacing.
“Fuck. Fuck. That honestly, wow that explains a lot. I mean, yeah. I get it now. I get it.”
Billy let him mutter to himself.
Steve always does better thinking out loud.
“You know, I was actually fucking nervous to tell you, but now I don’t care. Your dad was one of the flayed.”
“Yeah, I know. Only person I never felt guilty about.”
“You’re handling this, like, scary well.”
“Technically, I’ve had thirty years of therapy. All this has been processed already.”
“Wait, your little dream is thirty years in the future?”
“About.”
“So we’re, like, fifty?”
“About.”
“How do I look?”
Billy barked a laugh, regretting it almost immediately as his whole body screamed in protest. He wheezed a few times before he felt like he could speak again.
“I think you’re hot, but you don’t handle aging well.”
“Oh, God. What’s the damage?”
“Not telling. You’re just gonna spend the next thirty years stressing more than you already would. But lemme tell you, first time you found a grey hair? That was the funniest day of my damn life. It was like being in a soap opera. You found it and then called our lawyer to begin drawing up a will. And you kept saying how you probably only have a few god years left in you. It was hilarious.”
“Glad to know you laugh at my pain.”
“It’s one grey hair. Plus you maintain good health, don’t worry. You’ve got plenty of time to whine over grey hairs.”
“At least I don’t go bald.”
“Nah. Full head of natural hair. Not even receding.”
Steve brushed a hand through his hair, dropping heavily back into the seat next to Billy’s bed.
“Man, this is too trippy. Like, from my end, we’re not even close, you know? But to you, we’ve been together for decades. That’s fucking wild.”
“Imagine how I feel. Am I some kind of psychic now, or is this all just fucking delusion?”
“I mean, you know too much shit about me for everything to be, like, a figment of your imagination. But what happens now? Like, if we don’t live out the future just like your daydream, is the world gonna fall apart? Or is that an alternate dimension? Like, if the Upside Down exists, there’s gotta be other worlds too. Is that one of them and maybe because you were infected by the Mind Flayer you have like, a link between both worlds?” Steve’s brows were furrowed, his eyes darting all over the ceiling as he thought out loud. “And, I mean, I’m confused. I don’t know what my feelings towards you are. Like, don’t get me wrong, there’s been interest since you showed up. But now you’re telling me in some reality, we’ve been together for thirty years, and obviously you know all this deep shit about me, so do we date? When you know me like the back of your hand and I barely know you at all? And are you technically fifty years old? Since you lived out that other life?”
Billy’s head was starting to hurt, and he felt tired again.
“Sugar, you think we could table this?”
Steve’s cheeks went red as his jaw clacked shut.
“Is that what you call me? Sugar?”
“Call you a lot ‘a stuff.”
“Uh, like, like what?”
“Sugar, Pretty Boy, Stevie, Baby, Sweet Thing, Honey. Mac n’ Steve comes to mind.” Steve smiled softly at the last one, his cheeks still warm. “Princess.” Steve opened his mouth, his brows furrowing, the blush spreading down his neck. “No sense in denying how much you like them. Those are tried and true. Thirty years of calling you all that. Plus a few others. But, you know. Those are mostly reserved for the bedroom.”
Steve’s eyes went huge again.
“Fuck. You probably know what I kinks I have better than I do.”
“Oh, we’ve done some exploring in our time.”
Steve bent forward to bury his face in his hands with an Oh, God.
“I don’t think I wanna know.”
“Trust me when I say, you enjoy most of it.”
“Oh, most. That’s great.”
“There’s some trial and error. But we’re good at laughing stuff off, you and me.”
And then Steve’s eyes went wide, and he sat up straight in his chair.
“Wait, you said. When I first asked about the dream, you said, you said married. We got-I mean, we can get married?”
“Yeah. And we like, make out in public and shit. Hold hands everywhere. We’re big saps.”
Steve took a shaky breath.
“So things get, they get better? For people like us?”
“Yeah, they do,” Billy kept his voice soft, felt like sharing this thread of hope should be kept intimate, quiet. And Steve’s face split into a wide grin.
“God, I can’t fucking wait. Just to be, not to be scared all the time. Of everyone finding out this big fucking secret. It just, is.” Steve huffed a laugh. “Can’t believe it. Two guys getting married. Was our wedding nice?”
“We had two. One in the courthouse, one with everybody.”
“Wow. I just can’t believe it-wait, who;s everybody?”
“Your gang of weirdos. Here.”
And Steve lips parted, and he made that cute little face he always does before he cries.
“They all come? Dustin and the Byers and everyone?”
“Robin officiates. Dustin cries really fuckin’ loudly.”
“And they’re all, they’re all fine with it?”
“Yep.”
“God. It’s all, you think it’s too good to be true?”
“Everything I know about you was right. Don’t see a reason why everything else would be wrong.”
“Then, where do we go from here? Like, do we try to follow your memories? Or, forge our own path? Will the fact that we know about this future automatically change it?”
Billy’s heart was doing something funny as Steve wondered aloud to himself about all this.
The fact that he was all in, dead set on having this happy future with Billy, when he didn’t even know Billy.
“Are you sure about this? If we do this? Or some form of it. I mean, I know fucking everything about you. And you don’t know me at all.”
“I know you well enough to see the good in you. I know you well enough to see that under all your big scary toughness you’re caring. And you’re kind. Although you’d probably rather be dead than admit it. And besides. If, in another reality, or in the future, or whatever, I pick you to spend my life with, obviously that means there’s something in you that makes me love you.”
Billy gawked at him.
His face was hot, no doubt bright fucking red.
Because, holy shit was that a lot.
And even Billy, used to Steve’s passionate little tangents after thirty dream-years worth, was taken aback by how quickly Steve was ready to jump into this.
And all of a sudden, Billy wanted nothing more than to reach out to Steve, to pull him close and kiss him until he couldn’t fucking breathe.
“Harrington, I’m gonna need you to come kiss me right the fuck now.”
And Steve smiled, his most sunshiney happy smile, and the chair legs scraped along the tiled floor as he got up, sitting carefully on the edge of Billy’s bed.
He leaned over him, cupping Billy’s cheek in his hand, and pressing the softest of sugar kisses to his lips.
Billy let his eyes flutter closed, and he put one hand bandaged on Steve’s lap, wanting to grasp at him, to pull him even closer.
But Steve wrapped his other hand as gently as possible around the thick bandages, pulling away slowly, studying Billy’s face.
“I never asked. Is this always how our first kiss went?”
And Billy tried to search his memory, tried to find the sweet first kiss.”
“I-I don’t remember.”
Steve sat back.
“What?”
“Our first kiss, from the memories. I don’t remember. It’s like, when I think of our first kiss, all I can think of is that one just now. The other one is gone.”
An ache settled in Billy’s chest at the prospect, at losing a perfect memory with Steve. Losing their first kiss.
“So, when we do something, it like, replaces the old memory?”
“I guess.”
“So, we can build new ones then. And like, you won’t have to go through your whole life twice. We can start closer to square one. Memories that’ll be ours, and not ones that I don’t know.”
And that’s true.
For the pain of every memory gone is a brand new one, one that Steve would remember and be a part of too.
“Then I’m not telling you anymore. If we’re gonna build the memories together, we can’t be working off of some, some blueprint. Things need to be ours.”
“Agreed. We’ll make it up as we go.” Steve hadn’t stopped smiling at Billy.
“Is it weird I’m gonna kinda miss seeing you all old? You’re a silver fucking fox.”
“Yes, Bill. That’s fucking weird.” Steve took his hand and pressed a kiss on his bandages, right over where his palm will be. “Just means you’ll have to watch me go through it all again, though.”
“God, that’s the hottest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”
“Yeah? That get you going? The thought of me aging?”
“Nah, Pretty Boy. The thought of us aging together.”
“Wow. When you said we’re saps, you really meant it.”
Billy rolled his eyes, sighing as deeply as he could.
“Can it, Harrington. Or I’ll call the nurse and have you escorted out by security.”
“Oh, you wouldn’t. You’d miss me too much.” Steve pressed another kiss to his bandaged hand before sliding off the hospital bed, sitting back in this chair, scooting it as close as possible to the bed. He rested his elbows on the edge of Billy’s bed, and set his chin in his hands. “So, California, huh? When do we head out there?”
“Remember, like, twenty seconds ago when I said I wasn’t gonna say any more?”
Steve pushed his bottom lip out, making his eyes go big as he pouted at Billy.
“That doesn’t work on me anymore, Baby.” That was absolutely a lie. It worked on Billy nearly every time. But what’s he gonna do, reveal his weakness to Steve? Absolutely fucking not.
“C’mon, Bill. Just like, the year.”
“Nope. Not saying a damn thing.”
“Please?” Steve pouted some more.
“So odd to hear you begging outside of the bedroom.” Billy grinned with his tongue between his teeth as Steve dropped his little pouty face, his cheeks going red. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.”
Steve rolled his eyes. Sailing right past pleading and into petulant.
“Fine. I’ll just rot here until you decide to whisk me away to California. Better make it soon or else I may just die of boredom.”
“Jesus, so fucking dramatic. Didn’t we say we’re gonna make our own memories and shit? You can very well ask me to run away with you.”
“Maybe we should like, go on a date first. So I know you’re not a serial killer before I get in a car with you and drive out of state.”
“You’re so weird.” Steve made a snarky face at him. “But you better be planning our first date. I don’t wanna accidentally repeat the other one. Want us to have our own.”
And Billy felt that overwhelming sense of sadness at losing the memories of the other date, the perfect timid experience. Going to the diner and ordering to go, eating while sitting on the hood of Steve’s car overlooking the quarry, talking for hours and hours.
But he’ll get a new memory. One he’ll cherish just as much, maybe even more, knowing that Steve will cherish the memory too.
“Yeah, okay. I’ll take out. Maybe just metaphorically speaking, as I don’t think you’re in any shape to be going out.”
“Ha ha, Shithead. Just make it nice. You’ve got a lot to live up to.”
Steve rolled his eyes, shaking his head slightly as he sighed dramatically.
“If our whole relationship is just you holding me to the impossibly high standard of alternate reality me, then I want out now.”
“Relax. The standard’s not that high.”
Steve made an indignant squawking sound.
Billy just laughed.
“I’m kidding. Just, you know. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble meeting the standard. I fell for you once. I can do it again.”
And Steve’s face went all soft again, and he curled forward to rest his head on Billy’s arm.
“Thirty years. Always thought I’d end up divorced. People tend to get sick of me.”
“Not me. Never got sick of you, never gonna get sick of you. You’re stuck with me.”
“Then you’re stuck with me too.”

Peace and Joy
@spot-king-of-brooklyn I’m your secret Santa! @newsies-secretsanta
You said your favorite ships are sprace and/or javid and you’re good with pretty much anything so I’m gonna write two separate vaguely holiday-related oneshots in the reincarnation AU. Don’t worry though nothing heavy, just fluff. No COVID because I’ve had enough of that dude and I say so. Enjoy! Happy Holidays!
Tw: referenced past period-typical homophobia.
...
Spot couldn’t remember being this happy... ever. Not in the early 1900s or in the early 2000s.
Well, the closest he could think of was 1902, when he and Race moved on from being newsies and from being leaders of their respective boroughs and rented that old apartment in Brooklyn together. But that had been muted by the need to be careful. They couldn’t be normal young people in love because they always had to hide.
And that was fine at the time because it was expected. It was them doing whatever it took to be together not knowing they’d ever get the chance to do it another way.
Now, in the bright, beautiful, forward-thinking 21st century, they could be safe. They could be in love without fear of the consequences. They could go out Christmas shopping together, and Spot didn’t know if that counted as a date, but it kind of felt like one as he watched his boyfriend bop a little to Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You as he looked around.
He ended up having to look away before he started blushing too hard. Even if he wasn’t the King of Brooklyn this time, he still had a bit of a reputation as a stone cold badass. For all he knew, one or more of their more mischievous friends could be spying on them right now. And besides, this thrift store probably had stuff he could get the few Brooklyn kids who’d come back, too.
He was still deciding if Hotshot would think it was funny if he got him a tank top that said ‘hot stuff’ on it. The others would find it funny, but Spot honestly wasn’t sure if it would make his former second uncomfortable.
“Hey, Spottie, ya think my little brother would like this?”
Spot turned back to see Race holding up a bright purple worm on a string, but a giant version of one. One that was big enough to be a scarf.
“Knowin’ your family,” he admitted, “I think any of ‘em would be happy to get one of those.”
It was true. Honestly, the most sensible Larkin brother was the second-oldest, Crutchie, but Spot could still see him proudly wearing a worm-on-a-string-scarf to school after winter break ended.
Besides him, Medda, Race’s mom, tended to embrace whatever unique fashion choice she could find. And Jack, of course, didn’t let being the oldest of four stop him from being a theatrical little shit who liked drawing attention to himself.
And Romeo was somehow even more eccentric than Race, so he would definitely like that thing.
Race grinned, “I’m gonna get Ro a worm scarf for Christmas.”
“Your family is ridiculous.”
“Thank you. So, what’re ya gettin’ for Denton?”
Oh, shit. Spot had completely forgotten about getting anything for Denton.
He really should get something for him. After all, the teacher hadn’t even known Spot when Jack asked if he could stay with him. All he’d needed to know was that Spot needed a place to hide from his terrible parents and couldn’t stay with the Larkins, mostly because Medda had a strict rule about her boys’ partners sleeping over unless it was absolutely necessary. (it was also because Spot couldn’t think of anyone he’d want to live with less than Jack Kelly, but Denton didn’t really need to know that, did he?)
So far, Spot’s parents hadn’t shown any signs of missing him, and Spot couldn’t decide if that hurt or not, but it barely mattered anymore.
Because Denton didn’t really have any rules beyond ‘do your homework’, ‘take a shower occassionally’, and ‘if you leave the house, let me know where you’re going.’ He helped Spot pick out a Halloween costume, let him spend Thanksgiving with Race, and gave him money for Christmas shopping. He was fine with Spot being gay and having a boyfriend, even if there was an added rule with that of ‘you can’t have the door closed if you’re alone in your room with Race.’
He gave Spot space, but also made it clear that he could come to him for anything he needed help with. He never hit him, never pushed when Spot wanted to be alone, never even raised his voice unless they were in an already-loud room and he needed to get his attention.
In short, in only a few months, he’d become the best adult Spot had ever had in his life. He wasn’t his father, but he was closest thing Spot had ever gotten to a dad.
The Denton they’d known in their last life had been kind of like that, too. He’d helped as best he could whenever one of the newsies got into trouble, always being there for anyone who needed him since Kath first introduced her new reporter friend to her newsie friends. Of course, Spot hadn’t been living with Denton then, so he’d never really thought about it.
“What do you even get a middle-aged man for Christmas?”
Race shrugged, “Power tools?”
The idea of getting Denton power tools was so ridiculous that they both laughed.
“Uh... he’s a writer,” Race pointed out, “So... fancy pens?”
“Fancy pens? We’re at a thrift store, Racer.”
“Well we don’t gotta stay here forever. There’s a Barnes and Noble across the street.”
He wasn’t wrong about that, but Spot wasn’t sure about the whole ‘fancy pen’ thing. It seemed a little generic.
“Yooooo! Spot, check this out for Jack!”
He was holding up a bright blue sketchbook that said ‘Sketchy Bitch’ on the cover.
“Oh yeah, ya definitely have to get that for Cowboy.”
Spotting (no pun intended) something else on the shelf behind him, Spot grinned.
He had the perfect thing to get for the man who’d taken him in.
...
“This is gonna be so fuckin’ awesome.”
Davey snorted, “You’re way too excited ‘bout this, Jackie.”
He loved his boyfriend, but he had a tendency to get overenthusiastic about things.
Well, he loved that about Jack, too. And he loved being able to call him his boyfriend, now. That they didn’t need to hide this time.
He and Sarah had both been a little worried about their parents’ reaction, but it had turned out to be for nothing. They’d each gotten a t-shirt with their respective pride flag for the first night of Hanukkah, and Jack and Kath were always welcome to come over as long as at least one parent was home.
Davey loved Jack just as much in this lifetime as he had in his first, but it was different, not having to hide it. It was good different, but definitely different. Being able to be who they were and be in love and knowing that it was generally frowned upon to be homophobic now, at least where they lived.
And being able to do random shit that was romantic and fun as hell, but not something would even occur to most people to do.
After a sleepy conversation once Crutchie, Race, and Romeo had fallen asleep watching White Christmas (which Davey appreciated for the choreography in the dance numbers) one time about how there weren’t really any Hanukkah movies, Jack had collaborated with Kath to write a lesbian Hanukkah musical romcom to post to YouTube.
Objectively, it wasn’t that great. It was good for a movie made by a bunch of high school juniors, but they couldn’t afford good cameras or microphones or anything. Plus, it was appealing to a very niche audience, so Davey doubted this movie would get more than twenty views.
Still, it meant a lot that Jack was so excited about it, that he was working so hard on props and editing in the lighting and music for it so Kath and Saz could play Jewish lesbians fake-dating at a holiday party who fall in love. It was cute.
“It ain’t gonna win any awards,” Jack admitted, “But I think we’s got somethin’ good here!”
“We do,” Davey agreed.
Was he actually talking about the romcom starring his sister and her girlfriend? Partially. It was a pretty good movie for something produced by teenagers.
But they had something good there that wasn’t on the screen of Jack’s laptop, too.
Jack seemed to share those thoughts, with the way he was smiling.
“What’s with the look, mi amor?”
Davey rolled his eyes as the other boy put his arm around his waist.
“Like you don’t know, love,” he chuckled, “Remember the last time we did somethin’ like this? And by ‘we’ I mean ‘you.’”
“Shh,” Jack shook his head, “Nope. We don’t talk about the latkes incident.”
“You mean when you almost burned down our tiny little kitchen trying to—“
“We don’t talk about it!”
Davey laughed. It was funny, how Jack couldn’t, in any lifetime, cook anything more complicated than like... chili or stew. While he could make something edible, he couldn’t make anything that was really considered good.
“Davey, love, luz de mi vida, it was literally over a hundred years ago, so stop. Bringin’. Up. The. Latkes. Incident!”
He punctuated the sentence by hitting Davey with one of his mom’s throw pillows.
“Okay, Jackie, I get it! Stop hitting me!”
“Fine,” Jack grinned, “I ain’t almost burned down a kitchen in over a century, babe. I thinks that’s a good record to have.”
“Most people never almost burn down a kitchen,” Davey pointed out, “I know I—wait, did you just call me ‘babe’?”
Jack was definitely not meeting his eyes to try to hide how he was blushing, “Uh... is that okay?”
Davey smirked. Jack didn’t get flustered that often, but it was adorable when he did.
And even if he had almost burned down their apartment, it had been cute back then, how he’d tried so hard to try to do something nice for Davey for the holiday season. It was cute now, too.
That was one thing that hadn’t changed through the decades, he guessed.
“It’s definitely okay, babe.”
...
“Spot, is this a... ‘Best Dad In The World’ mug?”
“...if you cry, I’m outta here.”

A, The Bachelor AU please?
Sirius hated this show. He really, truly did. A whole bunch of desperate women who'd been told they were worthless for half their lives felt pressured into auditioning because they were the scandalous age of twenty-four and not yet married. And then there were the bloody men that signed on, looking forward to free dates and sex (in the later episodes) without having to do any of the legwork of actually finding dates.
That being said, Sirius wasn't so secure in his finances that he could afford to quit. As part of the crew, he had all his expenses paid for for the duration of the season, and a hefty check to go home with. If he thought that he could get work somewhere else, he would. He'd applied and been rejected more times than he could count, and the longer he worked on The Bachelor, the harder it was for non-reality shows to consider him. He'd only gotten onto this show because Remus had already been working on it. To be fair to Remus, he'd warned Sirius that it was horrible from the very beginning, but the bills had started piling up and being a waiter just wasn't cutting it.
While he was working, he kept his mind on the framing of the shot and not anything that was happening inside of it. It was only when the work was done for the day that he let himself complain, even in his head.
He was so used to ignoring all of the people that appeared in front of the camera that he almost tripped over his feet when he saw who the Bachelor this season was. Bloody gorgeous was the only phrase coming to mind, and he couldn't get his brain to work past that. All the past Bachelors that Sirius had met looked basically the same. White skin, light brown hair, vague five o'clock shadow, and a smile that looked like it had been purchased directly from a dentist's advert. They were never really skin or really buff, just somewhere in the middle, but not so much in the middle that they'd be considered out of shape; it was so much nothing that it drove Sirius up the bloody wall.
This guy though, he looked nothing like the others. He could've been plucked directly from Sirius's imagination. He reminded Sirius a lot of James, his boyfriend from secondary school. They'd broken up when James went back to India for uni, and he hadn't heard from him since.
Sirius cocked his head, then gaped. That was James. What the sodding hell was he doing here? "James?" he blurted.
James looked over when he heard his name, then grinned. It still made Sirius's heart stutter in his chest. "Sirius? Bugger, it's good to see you." He hugged him, and Sirius hugged him back automatically. He felt the same way in Sirius's arms as he remembered, even though they were both older.
"What the hell are you doing here? I didn't think this sort of show was your thing."
James's mouth twisted. "I lost a bet. In my defense, I never thought they'd actually accept me. Lily couldn't stop laughing when I got the news."
"You still talk to Lily?"
"Well, she ended up at the same uni as me, so it was easy. Plus she didn't speak any Hindi when she first got there, so she kind of needed someone to help translate." James gave a helpless shrug. "I tried to look you up, but you weren't talking to your parents anymore, so."
"Yeah." He hadn't wanted to be easy to find, but that was because of his family, not anything to do with long lost friends. He didn't feel like explaining that, but James probably knew it anyways. "So if you don't want to be here for the usual reasons, what are you planning on doing?"
James shrugged again, looking supremely uncomfortable. "I dunno. When it gets to the end, I guess I could just not give a rose to either of them and that would work, right?"
"Not sure," Sirius admitted. There was a formula to how the show was supposed to go, but they broke the rules every once in a while if they thought it made it more interesting. "They might have you fake it just to have a finale," he said, because they'd done shite like that before.
"Really? They'd do that?"
"It's a scripted show, mate."
"Great," James said flatly. "I'm really looking forward to this."
"Kinda sounds like you shouldn't have lost the bet."
"Shouldn't you be on my side?" James asked.
"How would that be funny?"
James snorted, then made a disgusted face when someone called his name. "See you later?" he asked hopefully, taking slow steps backwards so they knew he'd heard them.
"Definitely."
James grinned before leaving, and it lit up his entire face.
Sirius's heart ached for a moment. Good to know that he was still in love with James even though it had been years. Their break up had been sad, but inevitable. James had known where he was going to uni since before they'd even met (let alone started dating), and it would've been stupid for him to have changed his plans for Sirius. Even if he'd offered to stay, Sirius would've insisted that he go. Maybe, since James wasn't here for the relationship promised at the end of the show, Sirius could see if he was interested in getting back together.
"Was that James?" Remus asked, and Sirius jumped; he'd been so caught up in his own thoughts that he hadn't heard him coming.
"Yeah," Sirius said.
Remus kindly did not mention that he'd surprised him. "Huh. I didn't know he was back in the country. I talked to Lily last week and she didn't mention it. What's he doing here? You back together?"
"Not yet," Sirius said automatically, then had to correct himself. "I mean, I have to ask him if he's still interested. He's not here for me."
"Then what's he doing here?"
"He's this season's bachelor. He lost a bet," Sirius said, preempting the next question.
"Fucking hell," Remus muttered. "This'll be interesting."
*
James showed up at Sirius's door-- Sirius didn't have to ask to know that Remus had told him which room he was in-- that night when shooting was done. "That was miserable."
"I'll only get worse," Sirius warned. "After they start pretending to actually like you, they get more catty."
"What makes you think they won't like me? I'm a damn catch."
Sirius snorted, shoving at his shoulder.
James caught his hand before he could pull away. Their eyes met. And held.
Mark that down as definitely still interested, Sirius thought to himself, somewhat giddily. Neither of them said anything, but sometimes they didn't need to. This was how it had all started for them at Hogwarts. They'd had to reassure each other after a while that yes they fancied each other and wanted to date, but that initial interest had been easy to spot-- and it was the same now as it had been then.
"I really missed you," James whispered.
"I missed you too. Kinda sucked not being able to talk to you."
"Yeah," James said with a crooked smile. He let go of Sirius's hand and turned to face him a little more fully. "Look, I know it's... been a while, and maybe you're dating someone else-"
"I'm not."
"Good to hear," James said, fondness seeping into his expression. "I know the timing's utter shite-- with the show and everything-- but I'd like to give us another try. I mean, we were good together. Really good."
"We were," Sirius agreed, smiling at him return. "How about this. We work on the show in the day, and at night, we just... do this. Talk. Catch up. If we're both still interested when filming's done, then we can talk about where we go from there."
"Should I start working on my talking points now or?"
Sirius snorted. He'd missed this.
*
As it turned out, the producers opted to let James choose neither of the finalists because they had enough footage to make up the drama elsewhere. James was unspeakably relieved about that, and if he was honest, Sirius was happy about it too; he knew that it wouldn't have meant anything if James had had to pretend to choose one of the contestants, but it was nice all the same.
Because James was an absolute sap, when he went to Sirius that night, he brought him a red rose. He even had a little smile on his face like he knew exactly how corny it was and loved it for that very reason. "Do you accept this rose?" James asked.
"You're so buggering stupid," Sirius said, the words not near enough to hide the blush on his face.
"That's not the line."
"I'm making it one," Sirius said. He snatched the rose from James and pulled him into a kiss.

Daminette Soulmate AU Headcannons (3)
Damian was not worried. He was just going to introduce his literal soulmate to his friends and allies to the superhero community. That was the whole reason for this brunch.
It was just that Marinette should have been here already but he hadn't heard a word from her.
Ya Amar, where are you? Jon is getting rather impatient for my surprise.
Sorry Habibi. She seemed out of breath. Emergency. Final battle. Paris. Damian didn't usually get scared, it had been trained out of him, but…
It's being covered live. She added for his benefit and that was all that he needed to bolt downstairs.
"Out of my way." He snapped at Superman, pushing past him and making a bee line to the room with the giant television.
Jason and his friends were there. He snatched the remote out of Roy's hand just as he was about to hand it to his daughter and changed the channel.
Normally he would get shit for this and normally he knew better than to behave like this around a kid but he felt like his behavior right then was justified.
He ignored his father who had stormed in after him demanding he apologize to Kal-El as well as Roy insulting him.
Thankfully, Jason seemed to understand that something was wrong, he just turned his attention to the T.V. and just in time for him to find the right channel.
"-been raging for over five hours. It has been the longest duration of time for which Hawkmoth has been sighted. It seems like our heroes are fully determined not to let him get away this time."
His father had shut up, finally understanding his behavior. He placed a hand on Damian's shoulder and another on Jason's, "She'll be alright."
"We're aware of that." Damian snapped as the room started filling in with other heroes.
"We don't need you to tell us that." Jason was as tense as he was.
"I'll fly to...Paris isn't it, and help." Clark said.
Damian clenched his knuckles.
"The fuck you will!" Jason growled. "Sit your ass down and don't move."
"You will only hinder her work. No outside help until she requests it or don't you think we'd have been there already."
Both Jason and Damian loathed the fact that they couldn't be there fighting by her side but she had forbade it and as much as he hated it, her reasoning was sound.
"But we can't-"
"Kal-El," His father thankfully spoke up. "Shut up before my sons make you. I've approved this. She'll be fine, I'll explain later." More people were filling into the room, curious if what they were hearing.
The camera panned to the different heroes. "There has once again been a mass akumatization and the the battle seemed to reach a decisive point. Draka, Viperion and Queen Bee have successfully held off Hawkmoth, Mayura and Volpina as Ladybug purifies the akumatized civilians and now Lady Noir is back in the fight."
The camera shows as the teams flawless change their position so that Hawkmoth is left for Ladybug, Mayura being taken care of by Vespa and Draka and Volpina by Viperion.
However, Volpina as always did not play fair. Somehow, all three ended up away from the fight with her while Hawkmoth found a partner in Mayura against Lady.
It was impressive, the way she shifted her fighting styles and even her alter egos, going from Lady Bug to Lady Noir in a matter of seconds to counteract their attacks. She kept up wonderfully well for having two such skilled adversaries.
But they had been fighting for hours and it was very clear to Damian that the Kwamis wouldn't be able to keep doing this.
He was so glad at that moment that there was a bunch of superheroes in his house. If needed be, Marinette would get the whole Super community as backup if she asked.
However, she was still outnumbered and soon she found herself in a dead end with both Hawkmoth and Mayura caging her.
"That's it." Jason cursed. "We're going."
Damian wanted to agree with him but he felt her determination, her decisiveness and he smirked.
"No wait." He pushed his brother back to sit. Jason turned to look at him like he was crazy which soon turned into confusion as he saw his expression. He knew Jason still had some trouble adjusting with their bond.
"She has a plan." He confided. "She has them right where she wants them."
Jason stared at him for a few more seconds before he turned back to the screen.
"Give me your Miraculous and I won't hurt you." So predictable. Damian almost rolled his eyes.
His soulmate slowly raised her hands up, trying to seem as a non-threat, which is why they were taken by surprise when she extended her baton so that it slammed into Mayura's stomach.
Immediately after she vaulted over her fallen villian, letting her transformation roll off. She rolled on the ground, to hide her face and brought a hood and a mask that hid her mouth and nose up.
"Is that your league uniform?" Jason asked Damian.
"It's based off of it." He replied. "She liked it so she made one for herself in parallel with my new one."
"So you have a fancy costume, doesn't mean you can beat me now. It reduces your chances actually."
Even through the mask Damian could see her annoyance.
Mayura charged at her. She was clearly the smarter one of the two villains, her doom came with the fact that she listened to Hawkmoth.
Marinette seemed to see that too because she whipped out a gun.
"Did you give her the gun?" Damian asked amused.
"Of course, I did." Jason seemed smug that she was actually using it.
Before the villians could react, she made a perfect shot, aiming at Hawkmoth's Miraculous.
Of course, a normal weapon wouldn't hurt a transformed hero, where their skin was covered but momentum was more than enough to make his butterfly brooch fall, letting the transformation off and revealing Gabriel Agreste to the world.
Before he could do anything else Marinette threw a bola at him, incapacitating him. It was rather funny seeing him wriggle around like a worm.
"I gave her the bola too." Jason informed the room. No one was surprised.
That left Mayura. She leapt in front of Gabriel, intending to take him away but Marinette threw something, once again with terrifying precision that ended up with the peacock Miraculous pinned to the wall and one unveiled and frozen Natalie Sancoeur.
The camera panned to the object and showed it as a batarang.
"I gave her that one." His father informed them, he didn't need to look over to know that he was smirking or that the other occupants of the room were staring at them in total confusion.
Meanwhile, Marinette had already recovered both of the Miraculous.
"How-" Natalie asked as Marinette walked to her. She didn't seem interested in fighting anymore, she seemed too shaken up.
Marinette simply smirked, not that it was visible to anyone. "The sincerest compliments from the Batfam." Then she decked Natalie knocking her unconscious, right in time for the other heroes to land on the roof.
Dick and Stephanie whooped and Tim and Cass laughed. Damian hadn't noticed when they came in.
"Good job." Draka said, throwing Volpina down.
"Likewise." She stepped back and out the gun back in it's holster on her thigh.
"Spots on."
Ladybug crouched next to Volpina, and took her necklace and crushed it, a dark butterfly coming out of it.
She made quick work of purifying it, leaving Lila Rossi there.
The heroes each grabbed a villain and made the way to the police as Ladybug summoned her lucky charm to fix the city.
She had a smile on her face and Damian could feel how at peace she was in that moment as she followed her teammates to the police.
The camera went closer to her. "Ladybug." The voice that was reporting and that he had tuned out, called out.
"Hawkmoth has finally been defeated, how are you feeling?"
"Definitely relieved." She smiled before Turing serious. "But it's not over yet, Gabriel Agreste and Natalie Sancoeur will pay for their crimes."
"And what do you think of Paris' Golden Child, Adrien Agreste involvement in this affair?"
"Well now that they have been defeated, I can say this. Adrien Agreste is a hero. Our victory today has been possible because of him. After finding out who his father is, he came to me and together we decided on the safest course of action which was to send him away incognito." An outraged what could be heard in the background. "He will be returning to Paris shortly and will have a press conference to clarify everything. I ask of everyone in Paris to not judge a son for the sins of his father. Adrien is a hero in his own right and has suffered enough through this debacle."
"That is some shocking news. I understand that you have to deal with the police now, I won't hold you for much longer. We've noticed that you've used a batarang in your fight if I'm not wrong, and you mentioned the Batfam. Is there anything you'd like to say to them?"
"I suppose." Ladybug laughed, then she turned to the camera and winked. "Sorry for missing brunch. I'll be there as soon as I finish dealing with this."
"Damian." His father said and the whole room which consisted of almost all the heroes in the world turned to look at them. "Tell her to invite her teammates as well, I think they deserve a celebration."
Damian nodded his eyes turning blue, on the screen they could see Ladybug's eyes turning a familiar shade of green.
"Uh, are you alright?" The reporter asked. "Your eyes turned...green."
She smiled reassuringly. "Nothing to worry about, that was just my soulmate."
"What did he say?" A voice asked and the three other heroes were seen coming back into the frame.
Ladybug smiled that one smile that promise chaos.
"Oh this is going to be good." Tim had become an admirer of her schemes. "That's the smile she gives before she's about to wreck havoc."
"Oh, not much" she said innocently, "Just that you've all been invited to brunch."
All three of them froze, while the red clad heroine looked like she was having the time of her life.
"The brunch you were supposed to be at right now?" Viperion asked.
"With the entirety of the Justice League, Young Justice, Teen Titans, the Outlaws and basically every other hero in the world." Draka continue.
"Uh huh." She smirked.
"I don't know what to wear." Vespa muttered. She seemed...in shock.
There was an enraged yell heard and Ladybug sighed. "Alright, break time is over. Let's go."
"B-but-" Vespa muttered. It was so different from the confident, sassy hero Paris knew.
"You can take something of mine." Ladybug said. "That goes for both of you as well. Now shall we get to work, or else we'll never be finished in time."
They all turned to her for orders. "Viperion, Draka you are guard duty, I also need you question them all they know about Emilie's Agreste situation."
It was clear to everyone in the room that while she was talking to her team, she was fully aware of the camera still recording her and made sure to phrase her orders in a way that the people watching would have an idea of what was going to happen next.
"I am heading to Agreste mansion to contact Adrien and find Emilie and after talking to them both I'll be reviewing the crimes Gabriel, Natalie and Lila are being charged with."
The other heroes were pleasantly surprised at how professional and organized she seemed.
"Vespa, you are going to talking to the Mayor and the police, submitting all the evidence we have against them and liasing with the Italian Embassy about Miss Rossi. Send them the evidence we have of her willing working with Hawkmoth. Also, get her parents before you do anything, because she is ultimately still a minor."
The heroes dispersed and the reporter started giving a rundown of everything that had happened, was happening and would happen.
Meanwhile, in Wayne Manor, Barry asked the question every other non-Batfam member was asking themselves.
"Okay so who the hell are they and how did we not know of them before?"

Static and Stars: Episode 1 - Jay Day
Index
Jay and Nya haven’t been on a date in like... ever. So when they finally do go out on their own, some unexpected memories catch up with them.
AUTHOR’S NOTES:   Hey guys! At long last, S&S continues. I hope it hypes you up just like it does me! I was planning this for OC Day when I realized that it actually didn’t have any of my OCs in it (yet) so I’m happy to throw it out now.   This episode is quite guiltily Jaya-centered but PLEASE understand that it will be the only one. I laid out my plan for this fan season and I liked it, so I’m following through with having it kick off like this. This is a Jay fan season. Not a Jaya fan season. Thank you!
-
A patronizing BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! rang out beside Jay.
He groaned and sat up, hair messily flying all over his face. He slammed his hand onto where the sound was coming from, but found he slapped the smooth surface of his phone. He let out another grunt while the alarm was still judging him.
He shot out a small current through his fingertips and the beeping stopped. Right… he forgot. They weren’t in the Bounty anymore.
Jay climbed out of his sleeping bag and looked to his right, where Kai, who had just awoken, was trying to quickly rearrange his bed hair. Further past him, Cole was still sound asleep.
Kai noticed that he was still as a rock and, mid-hair-fixation, kicked him hard.
“Ow! Dad! Fine, I’ll get ready for dance practice-“ Cole jerked awake and then looked at Kai scorningly.
“This sucks,” Kai groaned. He plunged his arms into his “hygiene” kit and pulled out a hairbrush, some cologne, and a bit of blush fell out.
Jay stood up (while making sure his plushie stayed safely tucked in his sleeping bag) and smiled. “Aw come on guys, it’s not that bad!” He said, stretching.
“Whatever you say,” Cole sighed, tying his hair up in a bun.
In full pajamas, Jay exited the tent. Outside it was full sunlight, with shadows of leaves dappling the ground. He gazed at Ninjago City in the distance; it looked so much quieter from the outskirts.
Zane was already outside making a meal for breakfast. He slept outside. Jay didn’t see the appeal, but he said that it was better for him to be out with the stars and one with the (mild) wilderness.
“Good morning, Jay.” He smiled with ease. “You should really wash those gloves.”
He took a look at his hands. “Funny coming from you, ya barely change your clothes,” he playfully argued, knowing already it was a useless excuse. Zane sat there in full gi wear and looked up.
“I do not have the rather disgusting human body which pollutes cloth,” he responded simply.
“Any updates on how the monastery is going?” Jay asked, changing the subject.
“Indeed!” He flipped a pancake with a spatula. There was a whole contraption set up so that Zane could do his thing, even outside. “I have been notified that it is going smoothly.”
Jay nodded. He sat on a cushioned log. “I’m still so glad it’s over.”
“The First Realm was certainly a tiring event.”
“Yeah, and Garmadon… that fight was insane, huh?” Jay scratched his head. He was grateful that even with this makeshift living situation, they could rest.
“You don’t even know the half of it.”
The two ninja looked up. Nya was strutting toward them, tying up her hair casually. Unlike Jay, she had already gotten dressed.
“Nya!” Jay brightened up, even more energized from the sight of his girlfriend. The morning sun made her look quite phenomenal. She sat down by him, very close, physically. Zane’s (literal) inner timer dinged, and he stood up. “Breakfast is ready!”
At that moment both Kai and Cole rushed out of the tent, still very unready. Kai’s hair was half-done, his arm through just one sleeve of his jacket, and he was still pulling up his pants. Cole had yet to do much. He was just running out with his pajama pants on, and… that was it.
“What were you guys doing?” Jay asked.
“Shut up,” Kai said immediately, his eyes suddenly very focused on the pancakes that were now out and ready.
They all sat in their eating area on the cushioned logs in their circle beside Zane’s cooking tools and contraptions. It was a very average day, at least, for one where they had to camp together without a strong shelter and where they had nobody to fight anymore. But there were obviously some things missing.
Nya turned to Jay. “Well,” she shrugged, “Lloyd and Wu are off on their things.”
“As they have been for a while, making their own camp in Misako’s space,” Kai interjected, eyes narrowed. “Meanwhile we have to make it out here, in the wild, the cold-”
She ignored him. “And we have nothing going on, finally. So.. well… we haven’t really done much recently. And you were off in the realm for…. A while.”
Jay swallowed a chunk of bacon. “Right! How long exactly has it been since we’ve done something, just you and me, that didn’t involve snake venom or the fate of the world?”
She looked at her paper plate of food, thinking. “Like. Never?”
“Yeah.” He chewed more, a bit unbelieving. They’d only ever done fun things with at least one person from the team or when a villain was on their tail. Or if it was work or training.
“We have never really had a normal date, like, at all, have we?” She looked straight at him, making her point.
“Okay, today is perfect!” Jay finished the last of his meal happily.
“Alright, you guys, calm down,” Kai stood up, smirking. “I know that must mean you’re all very new to this, so if you’d like to ask the master-”
And then Cole just straight up picked Kai up. He just yoinked him from off the ground and slung him over his shoulder. He turned toward the pair, genuinely smiling. “Hahah, he’s one to talk. Come on buddy.” As he carried him back to the tent, Kai let out yells of protest, but it was nothing against Cole’s strong hold.
Zane smiled. “You enjoyed your meal, I hope?”
“Breakfast was great, Zane,” Nya commented, laughing.
“I guess this means we’ll finally have a day all to ourselves,” Jay winked, standing up. “I’ll devote this day to being Nya Day.”
She winked back. “And I, Jay Day.”
“Let me just go put on my clothes first.”
 -
The wind of the mountains blew fresh through the couple’s hair. Jay had dug through his bag to try and salvage what he could of the nicest clothes in there and had just barely scraped out a clean look. He’d stepped back outside, surprised to find Nya in a brand new, somewhat formal outfit.
“Oh,” she had said, reddening a bit. “Maybe I should go get that other stuff back on.”
“No! No,” he’d interjected immediately. “You look really nice.”
Now they were climbing down the rocky side of a steep mountain that led down to Ninjago City from their camp. Or, well, they weren’t exactly- their hybrid elemental dragon guided them down slowly, walking so as to not be easily detected.
“Where are we going?” Jay asked from his spot behind Nya, who had the reins.
She glanced at her boyfriend quickly with a sly smile. “You’ll see.”
Jay grinned and kept his silence for a little while. But inside his thoughts were racing quite a bit. He felt tense and nervous- and not because of the date. It was all so familiar. Too familiar. Sitting behind Nya, holding onto her... the feeling of the dragon’s spine beneath him and the thrum, thrum of what was the dragon walking but what his brain turned into the panicked beat of wings. His thoughts wandered through that old experience and he wanted it to stop. But he decided not to say anything.
At the edge of the city they, to Jay’s relief, put away the use of their dragon and grabbed a ride from a surprisingly mellow fan who was happy to provide service to the “folks who’d saved the city’s ass more than once.” Nya whispered the destination into his ear and he chuckled. “Well y’all enjoy your time, n’.”
“Shut your eyes, boltbrain,” Nya pleaded, trying to hold back a laugh.
“I wanna see, though,” Jay whined with a smile, trying to swat her hands away. She was reaching from her spot in the passenger seat of the car.
He (eventually) complied and they stepped out onto what felt like some concrete. Jay heard the car drive away.
“Okay,” Nya giggled, sounding slightly embarrassed. “You can look.”
Light flew into his eyes as he shot them open. He blinked a few times and observed the building in front of him. It was a fairly average-looking concrete building on the outside, but the windows were plastered with 80s-themed patterns, stickers, and paint. He gazed up at the sign that marked the building, which read in bright neon letters, “Ninjago Roller Rink.”
He turned to his girlfriend with a shy smirk. “Nya, what is this?”
“Okay, okay, so. It looks a bit run down. But I remember that you were into roller skating as a kid. So I just thought-“
He pulled her into a tight hug, his excitement growing. “This is awesome! Let’s go!”
He tried to rush to the door, but Nya got there first and held it open for him. “Ladies first,” she said.
“Ha-ha,” he joked, unable to hide his grin. They stepped confidently into the building.
The floor, cheap carpet with an 80s pattern, stretched out beneath them. There were party tables all around them, broken up by counters on the side of the right wall selling the snacks and roller blades. And on their left down a ramp, in all its glory, was the large wooden rink with a disco ball hanging above it. Popular 80s music played but it was barely heard among the conversations of the many people in the building.
The couple got stares as they entered, but they were too excited to care too much. They rented their skates and set off towards the rink.
They stepped out onto the floor and the rink suddenly cleared. Bunches of people crowded around the edges to watch two ninja in fancy clothes do normal people stuff.
While Jay eased on Nya stepped on immediately, and almost fell to the floor but grabbed hold of the edge just in time. She looked surprised.
“You’ve never done this before, huh?” Jay questioned, sympathetic.
She shook her head, blushing. “I didn’t know it was that difficult.”
“Well it’s not, once you learn. Here, let me show you.” He held out his hand.
She grunted but took hold of it.
A scene flashed in Jay’s brain. He was forced to remember. The rooftops of the tall, wide building of the city stretched before him, and he felt a feeling of dread, the intrusive thought that this was where it started. He dropped her hand suddenly.
“Jay? Are you okay?” Nya asked, worried.
He took her hand again quickly. “Yeah,” he lied. “Just a little nervous, I guess.”
He took her along the walls of the rink, guiding her with his words. But all the while, he was wondering what had happened. It’s not like it was the first time they’d held hands, of course. So why get so heavily reminded of that now? He was fooling himself. He knew the answer. None of the other ninja were around. Just like… he shook his head. No, stop Jay, you’re literally on a date, he told himself.
They were eventually off of the walls together, rolling slowly and steadily around the rink. Since it was empty, there was no need to go in the required circles, so they freely went where was best.
“Alright,” he said gently. “I’m gonna let go now.”
She looked at him, panicked. “Wait! Don’t!”
Jay gave her a serious look. “I’m going to, okay? Are you ready?”
She paused for a second and then nodded.
    “You sure?”
    She nodded again.
    “Go!”
With a gasp from the crowds, they let go together and Nya rolled ahead. She picked up her pace as they cheered, feeling confident, and then promptly lost her balance and fell down in a tangle of girl, skates and kimono.
    “Nya!”
She punched the ground. “This is never going to work!”
Jay frowned. “Don’t say that, you’re doing real good! Look,” he brightened up a bit, “next time I’ll wait until you really want to do it yourself.”
Reluctantly, she nodded, and took his outstretched hand again. As he pulled her up the music turned to a certain kind of song. An incredibly sappy, incredibly overly fitting song.
“Oh.” As Jay scratched the back of his head, getting all red, the crowds murmured in wondrous anticipation. He looked around and saw the guy behind the counter put his phone down with a wink. “I guess this isn’t really what you expected,” he told her nervously.
“It’s cool,” she shrugged, smiling. “Besides, I wanna show you off.”
He chuckled. “I wanna show me off, too.”
    And then it became perfect.
Nya picked up the skating incredibly quickly and was able to do very well by herself after just a few seconds. They rejoined at certain points and laughed. When he caught gazes from the crowd, Jay did some age-old skating tricks from way back, rousing several cheers. He always looked back at Nya wherever she was, who was always sporting a proud smile. It was foolish. It was childish. It was fantastic.
But their finish wasn’t as strong at all.
They met up towards the end of the song and started to feel something deep in the memories of their bones. Deep in their roller dance, they didn’t think and posed in a way they’d done before- in a fight. Like an instinct of feel-good thrill, they posed, and Jay suddenly gripped his head and fell to the floor.
It was dark and they were on top of a shining tower. Maybe they might’ve been able to hear the sounds of the black ocean, just maybe, if not for the cries and shouts of leader-blinded, bloodthirsty pirates. They were back to back, their swords drawn, fighting off the swarms of their enemies that no longer even existed within their realm. Jay thought of the lighthouse and this time he couldn’t stop.
“Jay!” Nya gasped, and the crowd let out shouts of concern. He was brought back to reality with their noise- somehow not hers. He was breathing heavily, still on the dirty wooden floor.
“I can’t…” he was almost okay when the music switched to something that bored into his brain. He’d never heard it before but it was saying things that couldn’t be unheard.
“We’re alone together, in a familiar place.”
    He couldn’t stand it.
“Waves beat upon the rocks and moonbeams shine upon your face.”
It was pop and terrible but it still existed, and as Jay continued to fall in and out of reality he felt himself being hoisted from the floor by someone strong. “Let’s get you some water… ‘SM, this music… c’mon, Jay…”
Nya was leading him out of the rink and back onto the carpet, and in her hold he found himself back in the roller rink’s building- but not completely. She sat him down at one of the tables and left him staring at the ground for a moment. When she returned she put an opened bottle of chilled water right in front of him, and wearily, he took a few sips.
A teenage girl from the crowds, who were now mostly filtering back onto the roller rink, shuffled up to them shyly. “Is the blue ninja okay?” She asked.
“Yes,” Nya snapped, which quickly sent the girl scuttling away.
“Better?” She asked, her voice edged with worry. Jay nodded. She sighed, smiling in relief. “That’s good.”
“Oh, but I ruined it…” he groaned, staring at the top of the table.
    “Ruined what?” She asked, confused.
    “Our date…”
Nya gave his hair a ruffle. “No ya didn’t. Let’s go talk about this over some lunch.”
-
Twenty minutes later they were ordering their favorite dishes from Chen’s Noodle House. They sat along the edge of the kitchen and a familiar face decided to pop into their conversation.
“I think I know what happened,” Nya answered after said familiar face asked.
“Oh, what then?” Pushed Skylor, leaning in.
“I just can’t get it out of my brain. Now that we decided to do something on our own, I guess,” Jay frowned, feeling absolutely terrible.
    “What?”
“It’s difficult to explain,” Nya said quickly, before Skylor delved too deep into speculation.
The redhead left for a brief moment to grab their food, and returned looking excited for a tale.
Jay picked around at his noodles. “You’re not gonna believe me, but it’s a different timeline. That only Nya and I remember, I think. It involves a lot of evil pirates, and everyone being trapped in a sword, and Ninjago being in the sky. You were part of my ninja replacements,” Skylor gave him a weird look as he was mid sentence, “and Nya even…”
He paused and dropped his chopsticks back in the tub. Nya stopped eating suddenly, and looked down, feeling sick.
    “Nya what?”
“Nothing important,” Nya said, trying to force another bite of food into her mouth.
“Well, hm,” said Skylor, looking a little put off, “sounds like you guys need to somehow sort this out.”
“Yeah,” Jay stared at his food. “I know. You’re right. We have to stop pretending like it never happened. We have to think about it. Sort out all the lost… stuff from it.” He reached into a pocket to pull out his wallet, but Nya was there first, holding her card out to Skylor with a smile.
She shook her head. “Today’s on me, ya crazy lovebirds. I just hope things are okay for you from now on.”
“Thanks,” said Jay with an exasperated sigh. “You’re a life-saver, Skylor.”
“Well, where do we start, then?” Nya asked when Skylor left them, looking at Jay with some nervousness.
He narrowed his eyes and gave one of his eyes a rub. “The lighthouse.”

One. Two. One. Two.
The thuds on the punching bag resounded around the warehouse. Your knuckles made cracking sounds after the hours of practice. Your shins were swollen from repeatedly hitting the stiff black fixture. The sweat on your forehead continued to drip down onto your lashes.
“Come and take a break Y/N”, a much younger and more energetic Ssam Chun shouted at you. Your breathing was heavy as you sat down next to Ssam Chun on the cold hard floor.
“Ya, how many times do I have to tell you... if you keep pushing yourself like this, it won’t do you any good” Ssam Chun handed you a neon-coloured isotonic drink.
“How’s the new girl?”, you questioned him instead of responding to his nagging.
“Yuri? That girl... she’s been whining the whole morning about how her hands hurt,” Ssam Chun snorted, “... she reminds me of you when you just started training haha, do you remember that you used to cry because-”
“Excuse me, nobody cried...”, you were rather offended. You were certain it was just a little tearing and not crying.
SsamChun puts on his best judging face and then gave a little sigh, “But now you don’t make a sound even after hitting that thing for a good one hour straight... sometimes I wonder is this what humans are like?”
“What do you mean?” you asked in between a huge gulp of the weird-tasting drink.
Ssam Chun grabbed your hand and pushed the bandages on your knuckles aside, revealing your red puffy joints.
“It’s not that the pain isn’t there anymore... look at this... but why do you not feel it anymore?”, he asked.
For a moment you thought he was making an attempt to nag at you again, but he was not.
---
A bolt of light flashes and you look up sharply, hands still holding on loosely to the bracelet bearing the carving. ″5.2″.
“Oh hahah I thought it would good to capture your reaction when you first see the bracelet”, a man holding a chunky camera quickly proceeded to explain as he notices your expression.
“This is Jason, Y/N. He's the main photographer today...”, and then the assistant director’s voice trailed off in your mind again as you refocused on the bracelet in your hands.
How much does Jungkook hate this arrangement? How much does he hate you? To the extent that he would engrave the clause number “5.2” onto this bracelet. Now it didn’t look like a jewellery, now it looks like a handcuff. One that intends to constantly remind you that you are imprisoned in this arrangement too.
The assistant director was still kind and gentle as she helped you to put on the bracelet and as she explained that the focus of the photos would not be on your face but she joked that you still shouldn’t make funny expressions lest it makes Jungkook laugh instead.
“Are we starting yet?”, Jungkook walked over and peeked at the bracelet which was now securely circling your wrist, the corner of his lips involuntarily raising a little.
---
The photography session was quick, they only wanted one or two good shots after all.
One of Jungkook’s hand was on your waist, his other hand holding onto yours which was placed on his chest, exhibiting the bracelet that felt cursed. Your back was facing the camera and Jason instructed you to rest your head on Jungkook’s shoulder.
As if there were a thousand needles poking through his shoulder, you carefully pretended to rest your head, the side of your chin barely even touching the material of that fancy jacket he donned. Your other hand hovering behind his back not daring to touch him at all.
The thin air between you and him formed the thickest barrier in this world. “Looking good, both of you...” Jason continued to say encouraging words as you listened to the shutter click away.
Jungkook stepped away quickly once Jason shouted “OK! Done!” and now your hands were just hovering in thin air.
You again felt that ghostly feeling of someone watching you but as you looked around there was no one suspicious at all.
“We are leaving soon, go get changed.” Jungkook whispered in a hushed tone.
You looked at him icily, not saying a word before stalking off.
---
From then on time passed peacefully on the surface for a few days.
The drill was simple. Wake up, go to work, look out for suspicious people around the boys, have lunch with Yuri, sometimes the managers joined you girls, head home when the boys’ schedule ends, make sure to check their apartment for any intruders or suspicious activities and then turning in for the night.
The days were always long, as one would expect. During these long days you could not help but occasionally notice the metal cuff on your wrist. Every time you observed it, it hurts a little less.
He hardly spoke to you ever, only meeting your eyes unintendedly now and then. There was once he looked at you for more than five seconds because your phone was ringing incessantly and Yuri had picked it up and yelled at the other side to “stop calling already!”
But the moment you locked eyes with him, he looked away nonchalantly, without even blinking.
---
The main schedule of the day is a filming for their own programme. The company had rented out a small studio near the office for the filming. It had been going on for hours and you had not bothered to go in to watch the progress.
From the glass window you were sitting next to, you could see the sun slowly setting, indicating the near end of another tiresome day. You hear someone walking towards you and from the corner of your eyes it looked like a shadow – it must be Yuri.
In her usual full black attire, Yuri strolls up to you, “I thought you would more excited to watch them film such things than I would be...,” she sat down next to you on the artsy looking bench in front of the clear window.
“I should be excited...” you muttered and could not help glancing at the bracelet on your wrist.
Yuri sighed, “It must be hard to know that all the while what you thought he was... was not real... but I don’t think he’s a bad person... you guys just met under the wrong circumstances.”
“Actually... I’ve been avoiding him not because I think he is bad or anything... I mean yes he’s not the nicest to me but if I were in his shoes maybe I'd be the same too,” it was difficult for you to gather how you really felt, “but I feel somewhat bad about being his fan previously... I’m not sure if I’m feeling this way because now I realise everything was fake or was it because I realised how foolish I was then.”
Yuri’s expression suddenly turned very serious, “What’s wrong with being a fan? You said so yourself to me... You like his music, you like the way he works hard to deliver his performances and you like the way he communicates with his fans, so what’s wrong with being his fan? Why do you need to feel bad now...”
Before Yuri could finish her counselling session with you, a bunch of people started flowing out into the hallway where both of you were seated – a familiar sight of people carrying clothing racks, huge boxes, files, cameras and all that fancy stuff.
The last of the people to exit were a few of the boys and the managers. Myunghoon was around today too, it had been a while since you saw him with the other managers. He tilted his head slightly to signal that it was time for you two to get going too.
Springing back on to your feet you walked up together with Yuri, gathering in the middle of the hallway. “We are still waiting a few of them to finish up...” Myunghoon said.
“I’ll go use the washroom for a moment then,” you whispered to him and he gave you a little nod.
---
The water flushes really loudly and you used it to your advantage to cover up the sigh you let out, even though when you entered you were sure that there was no one else around.
What was wrong with you? Yuri was right, you never thought of Jungkook as anything more than an idol that you liked because of their music and their performances. What were you so hurt over? You are feeling increasingly like an idiot by now.
Just then, darkness suddenly surrounded you – the lights in the washroom had gone off. Immediately, you snapped out of all those thoughts and returned to the alertness that defined your occupation.
With your left hand slowly grasping the door lock on your cubicle, you carefully tried to open the door. The door wouldn’t move. That was when you realised this was definitely not a simple power trip, someone must be outside.
Without any warning to whoever was out there, you rammed your side into the cubicle door trying to barge through it. You could hear some shuffling noises and you made no attempt to say anything as you knew there would be no favourable response anyway.
Your second attempt to burst through the door showed promising results, but the mysterious assailant shoved the door hard causing you to tumble back a step. Just then a shrill voice shouted through the rustic silence “I hate you!! You should die!!”
You were stunned for a moment, but quickly lunged for the door again while shouting back, “Who are you?!”
Then the final act came pouring down on you, quite literally. There was water everywhere, pelleting down on you harder than a thunderstorm. You could hardly keep your eyes open as you tried to look up for the source of the downpour.
“YA!!! Who are you?!” you continued shouting. There was no response and no matter how hard you pushed the door would not budge anymore. You finally managed to find a blind spot from the storm in the cubicle and saw that the mugger had thrown two huge hoses over the top of the cubicle door, which were now spraying waterfalls onto you.
The cubicle was completely sealed other than the top. You hastily took out your handphone and dialed for Yuri.
“Yuri, someone attacked me in the toilet... don’t ask for the details now, I'm fine... it’s a girl I think... she might still be in the building,” there was not a moment to waste as you called Yuri to action.
Once you hung up, you put down the toilet seat cover and mounted it. It was a good thing the cubicle walls were sturdy enough to sustain your weight as you lifted yourself up over it into the adjacent cubicle. Once you were out of your confinement, you saw that your cubicle door was blocked by one of those huge carts that the janitors use. Almost on the verge of swearing, you turned off the hoses and dashed out, avoiding looking at your state in the mirrors.
---
You dashed across the hallway, leaving a trail of water behind you. Myunghoon stared at you in shock as you tried to run past him.
“Where are you going?!” he shouted and grabbed you by the arms.
“She must still be around, we need to find her!” you yelled back.
“Yuri and the rest are looking for her” he chanted repeatedly as he dragged you towards the studio. Myunghoon pulls you through the studio set into the dressing room at the back. Seokjin, Yoongi and Jungkook were still in the room packing up their things and they looked visibly shocked when Myunghoon pulled you into the room.
“Hyung.. What happened?” Jin stammered.
“Maybe you guys should clear out, on your way out can you get one of the other managers to look for some towels or clothes... I’m not sure if they have any spare though...” Myunghoon was aware that you probably hated to be seen in this state.
To be fair, at this point you could not really be bothered by how they saw you anymore, but you still wanted to avoid any awkward conversations or eye contact.
“I have some spare clothes,” Jungkook said a little hesitantly.
“You do? It's spare or you need them for later?” Myunghoon marched over almost immediately.
“I was planning to go to the gym after this so I brought some clothes...” just as his sentence ended Myunghoon snatched the bag from Jungkook’s hands.
“Thank you very much then if that’s the case,” Myunghoon chirped. Jungkook look slightly taken aback though.
You had been staring at an empty space on the floor for a while now, hoping they would hurry settle it and leave but then a white patch appears before your eyes.
“I have a spare towel... thought I would sweat a lot from today’s filming but I didn’t get to use...” Yoongi muttered, his words slurring as always. There was hardly an expression on his face as he offered the pristine towel to you, raising it closer to your face when you failed to accept it.
“Ah... thank you...” you replied as you took it.
With that they left the room and you were on your own to clean up the mess that was yourself.
---
Sejoon shoves a cup of hot tea into a whiny Jungkook’s hands.
“What are you complaining about? Do you think she wanted it to happen? I know it’s not your fault that those sasaengs are crazy... but it’s not her fault either! And whose fault is it that her name has to be thrown out there as your fake girlfriend?” a rather stern Sejoon was chiding Jungkook to deliver the tea to you.
Jungkook turned silent for a moment. The past few days he had been so immersed in his inability to control the public sentiment, and the lousy circumstances that made him unable to clarify and say what he wanted to. There was a lot he was not satisfied with, including how you, a fan, was allowed to be his bodyguard. He momentarily questions if he is taking out too much of his dissatisfaction on you.
“You guys should have never let her become our bodyguard...” Jungkook gripes one last time and Sejoon was just about to tear him a new one but Jungkook escapes with the hot tea in his hands.
---
“Yes, come in please,” you answered the knocks on the dressing room door while continuing to squeeze the moisture out of your heavily drenched hair.
You sat up tensely when it was Jungkook who entered.
He cleared his throat awkwardly as he notices you were now wearing his baggy black T-shirt and track suit pants. They were obviously ill-fitting and he wondered if you had always been this small; he never really noticed it.
“Sejoon hyung said you should have some hot tea before we go off, they are still looking for the attacker...” he murmured as he places the cup onto the table in front of you.
“Thanks...” you whispered back.
He sits down on the couch opposite you and you looked at him in surprise.
“Is it your first time meeting a sasaeng?” he asked curiously.
You were suddenly reminded of the time he suggested that you could be a sasaeng too and a wave of emotions hit you again to know that you were being compared to this type of horror.
In your trance you sarcastically replied, “Well I guess other than myself, this is probably a first.”
He looked at you nervously, knowing clearly that you were referring to his past statement. He took a deep breathe before apologising, “I’m sorry for insinuating that you were a sasaeng... I was just really annoyed at that time...”
You still looked at him coldly, his words only confirming the fact that he took out his annoyance on you.
“Forget it...”  you responded after a pause, “I can see why you are so sensitive if such things can happen anytime like this.”
He was so shocked that you let the topic go so easily that he blinked a few times confusedly.
“It used to be worse,” he quickly said, as if he wanted to avoid giving you any chance to go back to being angry. “When I first encountered them I got so angry... scared... they would say such weird things and I had no idea what I was supposed to do or feel. But... nowadays I don’t feel it that much anymore, most of the time at least, but once in a while when it gets really serious I guess I still feel something...”
He observed you carefully as he rambled on but you were busy packing all the wet clothes into a plastic carrier that Myunghoon had left with you.
Without much warning to him and as you were stuffing Yoongi’s towel into the carrier, you suddenly asked “But why do you not feel it anymore?”
His gaze on you changed into one with a shallow depth. After a moment of contemplation, he seems to have found the answer.
“For survival... how else do you think I am able to live if every such thing is going to get to me?”
“So does that mean you regret choosing to be an idol?” you continued probing.
He frowns at you, “Do you regret becoming a bodyguard?”
“At times... but mostly no,” you answered.
“It’s the same for me too. At times, some times when I really cannot ignore it, I do regret. Why did you choose to do this though?” he felt this conversation was rather intriguing.
“It was the one thing I could do I guess... or rather the one thing I could do and which made me feel like I am alive... That it was worth my time and my life”, you tried to summarise your thoughts.
“Feel alive... Is it how it’s like in the movies? When something dangerous happens and you put yourself in danger to protect your “clients” and that makes you feel alive?” he asked a bit too earnestly.
It was as if the time had hit a pause button, you couldn’t move at all. You never really thought about why you felt this way doing this job after all these time.
He laughed softly, “They make me feel that way too...”, he concluded. The annoyance was returning back to him. He was ready to get up, dismayed to be reminded that it is the attacks, the harsh comments, the antis and the sasaengs who constantly remind him of his duties as an idol; is that what feeling alive is supposed to be then?
“There is a little girl I know who used to be really scared of “monsters” living under her bed...” you began saying out of the blue, “She would always beg me to check under her bed every night before she would sleep. I did it every night for her... It meant the world to a three-year-old. The way she thanked me and relied on me helped me survive the times when I felt like I had no other value in this world. She made me feel alive.”
Jungkook looks at you intently as you continued, “I don’t know if you get my point but it’s not about how much danger I overcame or how much pain I had to endure or what greatness I achieved. In the end I felt alive because I touched another life – I valued her and in turn, she valued me.”
If he said he understood what you were trying to tell him it would probably be a lie, but he felt like it meant something more than he could comprehend in that instant.
You stood up straight to try to match his height, “Don’t feel alive because of the bad things you have to go through. Look at all your fans who have been touched by you... the fans who love you. Feel alive for them.”
With that you thought the conversation was done and you picked up the bag of clothes, turning to head out of the room.
“Were you...” his voice puts a stop to your steps, “one of them?”

Timothee was going on about the rivers in lakes in Italy, you'd cut in and said that Tom would've liked it here as well but despite being part of the conversation, your head was definitely out of it. Between getting inside and walking over to the table, something has happened between the two.
Tom would tell you soon enough. He always did. Tom signs the receipt getting his credit card back as you all get up to leave through the back door.
"Mate, I heard Italy has some pretty fancy shops for clothes and I mean shops, not like malls or anything like that." Haz is focused completely on Timothee.
Timothee laughs nervously, shrugging, “Yeah, I think I could.” He says hesitantly, “Y/N and I have been-”
Tom cuts in quickly, “Shit, I’m so full, that I need to walk it off-”
“Then we can head there by walking.” Timothee snaps instantly.
You clear your throat, “That’s okay. Uh, how about you take Haz to go shopping and I can walk around with Tom and we can go to some bar to digest the day and talk some more?”
Timothee’s shoulders relax a bit but they still seem somewhat tense, he runs a hand through his hair, “Yeah, that sounds fine.”
It definitely didn’t sound fine from the way he said it, but if you were being honest it was time to really get to talk with Tom maybe finally rip off the bandaid and get the closure Troye’s been pushing you to get.
______________________________________________________________
You’re wearing your long black coat, Tom in his tan jacket as you two walk along the sidewalk don’t hear any flashes which is always a good sign that nobody was following you but in this business you could never be too sure.
Tom has his hands in his pockets as you two walk, he looks down at the sidewalk.
“So, how long are you guys staying in town?” You speak up.
He looks over at you, grinning before looking down, “We were gonna stay here for a week but due to… complications, we might leave tomorrow.” He sighs.
You stopped walking, “Was it because of whatever happened before you two got to the table?” You subconsciously start biting the bottom of your lip and pulling off the dried skin.
He blinks a few times, sighing, and reaching over to pull down the skin between your chin and bottom lip, “It’s nothing, okay? It’s fine. I’m just being a big baby. Stop worrying now.”
It goes silent once again, Tom has never deflected you like that, he’s always been straightforward, especially when you started asking questions.
You clear your throat, “I’m actually quite glad we got this time together, Tom. I wanted to talk to you about a few things.”
The pace you two had naturally set was slow but as soon as you finished talking, it got even slower as Tom waited for you to speak.
“We were together for 3 years, Tom.” You thought you could do it but you feel the words slither back into your throat, if this happened, he’d be gone., what the two of you had would be gone.
He sighs, “3 years madly in love.” He wipes something along his eyes, if you knew any better you’d think he was crying, “And I fucked it all up.”
You stay silent as he continues, “I’m sorry I’m-I- I’m sorry I fucked us up, Y/N. If I could go back, I’d do so many things different, I’d love you how you deserved, I’d never leave you, and we would be so happy together.”
“It’s in the past Tom.”
He runs a hand through his hair, “And now, you’re moving on right?” He smiles sadly and you furrow your eyebrows, just exactly what happened between him and TImothee?
You stay silent so he continues, “I-I thought if I came back here, it would fix things between us. But seeing you here, I can’t tell anymore if you’re truly happy with him or you’d be better off with me.”
You look down feeling the tears stinging your eyes, he couldn’t read you not because you two were different now but because you yourself didn’t even know.
“Maybe you can help me understand, Tom.” He halts, the time suddenly stopping between the two of you, “A walk down memory lane, like a date. No, exactly like a date, just the two of us.”
Tom’s face breaks out in a huge grin, “Y-yeah, I’d like that.”
Were you ready to forgive him? Absolutely, there was too much history and love between the two of you not to, does this mean you two were getting back together? Not exactly. There still existed the Timothee of it all. You had to understand what you wanted, whether it’s to be with Tom or to be with Timothee. This whole time you’ve been with Timothee but this may be the only time you have to spend it with Tom. You grab your phone, sending a quick text to Timothee.
To: Timmy T
19:35
‘Hey, change of plans. I gotta cancel something kind of important happened, don’t wait up, I’ve got spare keys and I can just take an uber back.’
Not even 2 minutes later you have a reply.
Fr: Timmy T
19:36
‘It’s fine. :)’
Maybe you should have called. But maybe you shouldn’t, maybe hearing Timothee’s voice would completely change your mind.
Tom holds out his hand, waiting for you to take it, “Come on.” He looks excited as he talks nonstop, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t miss this, “We could go to the bookstore at the corner of the street, and then we could go to some small time art galleries, maybe look for some museums, or maybe we could go to the local library if they’re still open, and we could go walking along my some docks or the beach and then we could go to a cafe or something!”
He barely catches his breath but you’re giggling at him, it was funny how easy you two could turn it back on, being together like this, like no time had passed but in all reality it’s been at least 8 months since the detonation of your relationship.
“We could go to some-ugh I don’t even think they play soccer here.” You laugh, “How about instead of a cafe, we go to a sports bar or something.”
He shakes his head, swinging your intertwined hands together, “No, no way you hate those kinds of places, you like laid back places.”
You smile to yourself, “How about a lounge bar?”
Tom chuckled, “We’re not THAT old, Y/N.”
You laugh with him, “Alright, then let’s go to an old fashioned Dive Bar.”
He stays silent, smiling over at you and nodding, “But first the book store, art gallery, and pier.”
_______________________________________________________________
You walk through the aisles and aisles of books in a tiny antique book store you both had found as Tom looks around as well but he wasn’t fooling anyone, he didn’t go to places like these, not a bookstore, not art galleries, not museums, but he’d always been willing as long as it made you happy.
You grab a book, on art, and walking over to the cashier and paying for the book. You grab the receipt and walk over to a sofa where as per tradition you would read a portion of the book, “This is perfect since we’re going to an art gallery after.” you grin at the approaching Tom.
As you sit there and read, you feel the familiar gaze, Tom’s eyes going soft as he watched your eyes follow the lines on the book and as you turned the page, slowly nodding when you agreed with something written in the book on how impressionism was an art style too sophisticated for its time. This was what Tom loved to do, watch you while you had the time of your life, as your eyes come alive as the minutes go by.
By the time you reached page 20, you stand up, ready to leave and Tom grabs your coat from the coat hanger and holds it open for you as you slide your arms inside.
“I found a spot in town where there are a bunch of local art galleries like maybe three to four, we could go there.” He suggests, “But it’s a 25 minute walk from here, does that sound okay to you?”
Tom takes the book from your hand, holding it for you as you open the door to the outside and the bell dings.
You nod, “That sounds great.” You put your hands in your coat pockets.
You look at the ground while walking, then over at Tom, “So, how much longer are you playing Spiderman?” You smile hopefully.
He grins, but there’s a gleam in his eyes, “I don’t really know, to be honest. A lot of things are happening right now and everything is changing-if I’m being completely honest, I’m at the end of the rope here.” He looks over at you a glaze going over his eyes, “But if things were to happen that would make me end my career as him, it’d be worth it.”
He looks around, a quiet neighborhood where locals probably recognized you but didn’t disturb you two at all except for a few kids who wanted Spiderman’s autograph.
“It’s quiet here.” He points out.
“I know right?” You look around, “It’s peaceful and away from everything else.”
He kicked a pebble off of the sidewalk, “Looks like a place people who want a quiet life could settle down in, huh?”
You blink a few times, “Yeah, well a quiet life would never cut it for you.”
“That’s not true.” He slows his pace, “As long as I’m with you, I’d be happy with what I get, whether that’s glitz and glamor, or a quiet life in a quiet town where nobody knew us.” He lets out a breath, “In fact it sounds amazing, but only if it’s with you.”
You’d thought about it before, for sure you have. Leaving all of this behind, getting married, starting a family with Tom, getting another dog maybe, and having two kids who yo two would love dearly, a white picket fence, a backyard maybe with a pool still very debatable, a grassy area where the kids could play and run around with the dogs, Tom could build them a treehouse where you two could come up in on Tuesdays to have dinner there, but Tom would obviously always be up there having tea parties with your daughter every chance he could.
You shake your head, that was a dream, a fantasy. This was reality, “That sounds amazing.” You smile at what could have been-what could still be.
“Aw, shoot. I was really banking on the library next door to be open.” He pouts.
You roll your eyes, grabbing his hand to pull him along to the gallery next door.

You laugh, “Tom, that’s the 10th picture you’ve taken of me.”
He looks at the picture with adoration in his eyes, a shot of you catching him mid photograph as you hold you your hand in front of you, your arm outstretched while in the middle of a laugh, “And I’ll treasure it always.” He says as he sets it as his wallpaper and lockscreen.
You hum, “I think there’s a beach around here if we go straight.” you two begin walking and 10 minute later your feet are already sinking in the sand.
“Here.” He kneels down and unbuckles your high heels for you, holding them in his hands, you two walk along the shore, hand in hand, the beach at night wasn’t exactly a view, but you were here with Tom, teasing the idea that maybe you two could get back together.
You suddenly blurt out laughing, “I’m sorry… but I understand why walks on the beach are for sunsets.”
He squeezes your hand, “Not true, it’s quiet and it’s like the whole world is asleep and it’s just us who exist.” He looks over at you, “I love the beach at night, it makes me feel that much more closer to you.”
He looks down at the shore, getting both of your feet wet, “You know, sometimes I wish I could just end it all- I mean this whole life, just leave and never come back, just disappear, and I’ve never said it out loud, but saying it just now, made me realize how sick I am of hollywood and fucking producers and filming.
“Everyone’s asleep, Tom. Scream out into the void.” You gesture towards the ocean.
He nods, soundlessly, taking a deep breath, “I WISH I COULD LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND AND START A NEW LIFE!” He takes a deep breath, “I WANT A FAMILY! I WANT TO LIVE WITH THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!”
You feel your eyes start to water, as Tom finally gives himself the chance to be honest, and you take a deep breath too, “I JUST WANT TO BE HAPPY!” you take deep breaths as you wipe your eyes, the tears already starting to fall.
He takes your hand, as the two of you leave the beach barefoot and feeling like a heavy weight has been lifted.
His eyes are on the ground as he refuses to look anywhere but, “Do you think you could be happy with me?”
You nod, “Of course I could be, Tom.” You squeeze his hand.
_______________________________________________________________
The two of you walk through the entrance of a Dive bar, a pretty quiet night with a few locals around, the stage was empty, and it was a little past 1, you two go straight to the bar, knowing Tom liked sitting at the bar, because it made you two that much closer.
“Hi” Tom waves down the bartender, “Could I get a draft beer and some white wine maybe?”
He nods quietly and serves your drinks, but instead of going away, he lingers, looking at the two of you.
“I’m sorry, I know this is your personal time, but aren’t you the Spiderman kid?”
Tom nods enthusiastically, and you admire him. He loved being Spiderman, even if he does complain about it, he loves being Spiderman, being able to be a superhero to kids, and just bringing the role to life.
The bartender turns to you, “And you’re Y/N! Aw man!”
You nod shyly, “Yeah.” You smile, “I didn’t think you’d know me. It’s usually him, who get recognized here.”
He grabs his head, “How could I not recognize you?! I’m a huge fan! I even buy your albums even though CDs are obsolete!”
You giggle at the bartender seeing as he was a pretty big buff guy with arm tattoos, “Well, I’m glad you love my music.”
He nods, “Yeah, completely, I’ve been waiting for your album for a while now, ever since you announced it on Ellen!”
Your face falls,”Well, I’m a bit stuck in this place. Maybe a few songs to go before we can get to editing and rearranging it.” You feel a weight off your heart, scared that maybe nobody would listen to your albums, “You should give me your name, number, and address and I’ll be sure you get one of the first few copies.”
He grabbed a napkin, writing down his details quickly, “Jesus Christ, this is crazy, I never would have thought I’d get to meet you! I’m Sal! I mean, I’ve never been outside of the country and this is a dying bar, as you can see.” He suddenly looks like he got a great idea, “Wait, how about you perform? Maybe bring in a few locals or a few tourists, I used to play your songs, but people started to want live music and nobody really comes here to sing, so maybe you could perform a song off an old album, maybe?” He looks so nervous to even ask you that you can’t help but accept.
You get up off the stool, Tom immediately grabbing your wrist,”Are you sure? Are you good to perform?” You give him a reassuring smile, “I’ll be fine, Tom. He’s a big fan, if I can help him in any way possible, I should do it.”
You plug your phone into the aux cord and approach the mic, “Sal over there, says he’s a big fan of mine, and he asked me to play an old song... “ You look over at Tom, who had his arms crossed, a nervous look on his face, “But how about I play a song nobody has ever heard before, one I wrote about a year ago about the person who was my whole world. This is called Clementine”
Tom’s eyes widen as he sits up straight, trying to get a good listen as Sal takes out his phone to record. You press the play button on your phone for the music to start and you begin singing.
I'd like to tell you that my sky's not blue, it's violent rain
And in my world, the people on the street don't know my name
In my world, I'm seven feet tall
And the boys always call, and the girls do too
Because in my world, I'm constantly, constantly havin' a breakthrough (hmm)
Or a breakdown, or a blackout
Would you make out with me underneath the shelter of the balcony?
'Cause I don't need anyone
I don't need anyone
I just need everyone and then some
You spot the entrance where more and more people were piling inside, as Tom grasped his hands together tightly, his eyes never leaving you.
 I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I just need everyone and then some (I just need everyone and then some)
Wish I could see what it's like to be the blood in my veins
Do the insides of all of my fingers still look the same?
And can you feel it too, when I am touchin' you?
And when my hair stands on ends, it's saluting you
The blush in your cheeks says that you bleed like me
And the 808 beat sends your heart to your feet
Left my shoes in the street so you'd carry me
Through a breakdown
Through a breakdown or a blackout
Would you make out with me on the floor of the mezzanine?
'Cause I don't need anyone
I don't need anyone
I just need everyone and then some
I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I just need everyone and then some (I just need everyone and then some)
My face is full of spiderwebs, all tender yellow blue
And still with one eye open, well, all I see is you
I left my daydreams at the gate because I just can't take 'em too
Know my heart still has a suitcase, but I still can't take it through
I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I just need everyone and then some
I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I don't need anyone (I don't need anyone)
I just need everyone and then some (I just need everyone and then some)
I don't need anyone
I don't need anyone
I just need everyone and then some
Oh-mmm, oh-mmm (yep)
The bar was pretty full now, couples littered around and a number of people crowded around the bar trying to get their orders, and it hits you like a truck, you can’t breathe and you’re gasping for air but you can’t show all these people this side of you. Tom rushes over to your side, grabbing your hand and pulling you along, you feel slightly better as he brings you to a less crowded part of the bar, “Maybe we should get you home.” He looks around, worried, “I already booked an uber so you could get some rest while we’re on the way home.”
You nod, following after him and telling Sal you’d be sure to visit again before you left Italy.
Getting in the Uber, you rest your head on your shoulder, as you drift off to sleep, Tom’s finger tracing circles on the back of you hand.
_______________________________________________________________
You two were standing in front of the gate, it was like Tom wanted to say something. It was like something changed in that dive bar, what you wanted became a little clearer to you but you had to think about this, you had to prove what you were thinking was right.
You hold Tom’s hands in yours, “Tom, would it be fine if I tell you what I’ve decided tomorrow?” You bit your lip, “I just don’t think making my mind up in the moment is the right thing to do, maybe a good’s night sleep would help me think.”
He nods reassuringly, “Of course, Y/N that’s completely fine. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He leans over, giving you a shy kiss on the lips before backing away, unwilling to turn his back on you while he waits for you to get inside.
_______________________________________________________________
When you get inside, the house is dark, the only light coming from the tv, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before playing on Netflix. You approach the couch to turn off the tv but you’re shocked to find Timothee laying on the couch, popcorn bowl untouched a he snored lightly, you shuffle over to the tv, but he stirs in his sleep.
“Oh, hey you.” He looks deadass tired with his eyes half open but he smiles groggily at you, “Did you just get in?”
You nod silently, “Were you waiting for me?”
He stays quiet, “Well, what if you lost your keys? How could I expect you to climb over the gate and into the house?”
You smile at him, “That sofa can’t be comfortable to sleep on all night.”
He shrugs, “Well, if I didn’t who else would save you in your time of need?” He scoots over, patting the sofa next to him, “Wanna watch some Peter K with me?”
You feel a comfort in your heart, unknowingly nodding, “Yeah, I’d like that.” This was you being completely honest with Timothee, you think you knew what you wanted but you couldn’t decide on that in the heat of the moment.
You sit next to him, getting comfortable and before you know it, you lean into his shoulder, falling asleep.

Chapter one ; lost and found
warnings ; light angst ( okay maybe a substantial amount )
It's gonna be posted to be my ao3 when I actually edit it more because we know ao3 is superior . ( .lichtenberg is my username ! ) Stay safe guys ! I haven't properly proof read it because I'm tired but I'll probably see a mistake in a week and then fix it then after panicking .
-----
Things were always tough for Hitoshi Shinsou. That's how life was for him , he'd wake up and go to school only to be faced with the relentless bullying from his peers which his teachers dismissed. In a world full of quirks, he would much rather be quirkless.
Everyday felt like a battlefield , trudging through the trenches , avoiding any hits from the enemy and soon enough, he was at the front line. His guard was up and yet everyone saw the little cracks on how to get him down.
It wasn't so bad at first , the occasional taunt , nothing that he couldn't manage . though when he got to middle school, things got worse, kids got meaner. Well, so did he . A strong hatred grew towards the world from his bones that supported his figure.
Yet , the blond boy in class 1a would disagree . He never thought that Hitoshi was mean . No , he found his reserved and quiet . He enjoyed it . He enjoyed how he would follow Shinsou around like a lost puppy ( though Hitoshi would change that to a cat ) and the purple haired teen wouldn't spare him a glance.
Yeah , in Denki's mind ? Things were great .
23rd of June
Denki asked Hitoshi out after sitting besides him at lunch for over a month now . He turned him down.
27th of June
Shinsou had a bunch of lavender dropped at his doorstep , all plucked from the ground . He didn't even need to read the note to see who they were from . He simply tossed them on top of his desk before going back to reading.
29th of June
It was Kaminari's birthday and much to his distaste , there was no happy birthday from the boy he wanted to hear it from the most .
Shinsou knew the date , how could he not? When it was all the blond talked about within the recent week, eyes bubbling with happiness, only getting a glance from Hitoshi and maybe a nod of the head.
He would rather people think that he doesn't care then face the pain that comes with having a friend.
30th of June
Denki still hung around him , acted as if he didn't ignore the day he was most excited for out of the entire year . Shinsou didn't say a word.
1st of July
When hitoshi woke up , he had a gift at the foot of his bed and he wondered how Denki managed to break in to the dorms to drop it off. With tired eyes, he grabbed the note taped to the package .
— to toshi shinsou
“ I understand that you may not like me but I like you dude ! You think you're so tough but you're totally not . I hear boys like handwritten notes and I should know that since I am one but I have yet to receive one so it's a new experience for me too !!!!! Hppay happy birthday , I'm not mad at you . I know you don't want to be my friend and that's a-okay ! Just please let me down slowly ? I won't hang around with you anymore if that's what you want . I mean, you probably didn't like me in the first place and you wouldn't be the first so don't worry ! Pikaboy is fine with it ! Happy birthday .
Ps . A thank you would be greatly appreciated.
Pss . Also come on a date with me this Tuesday? I'll be at the restaurant down the road at 7pm . ”
Sincerly sincerely , Kaminari. :)
Shinsou paused . They were back to a last name basis now, Denki had officially removed his nickname from his vocabulary.
He pondered on why Kaminari would constantly go through trouble to make him happy and yet didn't even get a smile in return. Heck, by the last sentence , Denki seemed happy enough to be stood up publicly. Could he really do that to him though? Judging by the ink smudges on the paper , he couldn't . Sunshine boy had either spilt water very precisely or cried while writing it . He hoped it wasn't the latter. It made his chest ache and twist as he reread it four times . He noticed the spelling mistakes and how there would be another teardrop straight after as if he hated himself more for ruining the letter .
Hitoshi eventually tore his tired eyes away from the paper and opened the box which was at the bottom of his bed. He couldn't help the sweet laugh that escaped him. There would be no point hiding it now , after all no one was here to judge him or swear they say him show more than a stoic look.
It was a hoodie , purple and a few shades darker than his hair with the word ' mind fuck ' written across each sleeve while the front was decorated by cats .
Custom made , suddenly a tear dropped and Shinsou stared at it as if it had personally insulted him. He watched as the hoodie took it in , leaving the wet mark for show.
He would turn up to that date . He refused to wear anything fancy but he couldn't let Kaminari know .
5th of July
" dunce face , he isn't going to come ! He hates you ." Bakugou exclaimed as he watched Denki apply his eyeliner for the fifth time. Each time he applied it, he would cry it off .
" you think I don't know that ? I have to try though ! We're meant to help people and if my purpose is just getting myself involved in things that he doesn't like just to show that I care then I can proudly class myself as a hero !"
Mina rested a pink hand on his shoulder , wiping his eyes once more. " Come on, Danks ! He's gonna come , Bakubabe is just jealous because he can't get a date with Kiri ."
" WHAT THE FUCK DID I TELL YOU ABOUT CALLING ME THAT, RACCOON EYES— "
Hanta laughed from the background , playing some weird game on his phone . " Bakugou and Kiri sitting in a tree , K-I-S-S-I-N- OH MY GOD." The boy exclaimed as he ducked from an explosion that was sent his way .
Denki only laughed as Mina tilted his head back to stop the tears and began giving him some sharp winged liner . " Right , you look hot now go get that outfit on and get your sweet ass back here so i can do your hair."
" but I already did my ha-"
Mina out a finger to his lips. " Ah— Mama Mina knows best now hurry up . "
It turns out that Mama Mina did know best because low and behold, Shinsou was waiting right at the restaurant , 7:01 sharp. Hitoshi was far from a people pleaser , perhaps the opposite to Denki. He could give less of shit about what everyone else wanted but when someone had shown him unconditional care ? He knew he had to do something because what kind of hero would he be if he let them suffer due to his ignorance ?
" Let's make this quick." He commented , eyes sharp as he looked to the bubbly boy who had just turned up. It was clear that he wasn't expecting the other man there. His face lit up.
" O-oh yeah ! Sure dude !" Denki managed to get out as he walked inside the restaurant. It was far from fancy, that was clear . " Hey hun !" A woman gave a wide smile to Denki who wrapped his arms around her.
Hitoshi's mind wandered . Was this some kind of joke ? Why was he hugging a girl on a date with him ? Did he say date ? No he meant an outing because he felt sorry for him. That's it . Yeah -
" and you must be the boy that Denki has told me so much about - "
" AOI !" Denki's face flushed scarlet .
" sup, I'm his sister . "
Oh. . .
Oh .
That makes sense.
He looked between the two of them , why didn't he see it before ? The golden yellow hair , sitting in spikes across their heads , though hers was much shorter. They had the same smile and same eyes , the only difference was that her hair had a sideshave with the lightning bolt there.
Needless to say, Hitoshi felt dumb which wasn't meant to happen.
" that's very nice , I guess ?" It came out as a question , he had no idea on how to interact with people. That kind of went with his whole " no friends " thing .
" yeah , so get us a table , pronto !" Denki exclaimed and shoved Aoi along . " I'm going ! I'm going! There's a table over there , it ain't nothing fancy but you'll live. Your date " she wiggled her eyebrows at Denki who groaned. " doesn't seem like a people person , who knows why he's hanging with you - wait , sorry! I've been calling you a he ! You are okay with that , aren't you ?" Her attention turned to Shinsou who only managed to get out a little nod.
She let out a sigh of relief as she handed them both the menu's as they sat down. It wasn't long until she was off to go flirt with someone. Classic Kaminari's.
" She works at an lgbtq+ shelter for teenagers so she's really hyper aware of everyone's sexuality and stuff. " Denki commented , tapping his fingers on the table .
" that's good, I guess ? " Shinsou pondered their background for a moment before the blond boy pulled him from his thoughts.
" hey , my back hurts -"
" what? Why ? "
" from carrying this entire conversation." Kaminari let out a laugh and Hitoshi gave a fond roll of his eyes in return along with a chuckle.
He didn't realise his mistake until it was too late .
" you laughed at my joke ! You laughed ! Fuck yeah ! "
" wait no I didn't !"
And so came joke galore from Denki for the rest of their date . Kaminari wasn't funny , but the way he delivered each joke made Hitoshi's chest pound more and more.
He had been ignoring this .
As they walked out after a very full stomach and a very large discount, he tried to ignore the guilt eating up at him.
Denki had cried because of him, he had cried because he was ignored and he was now acting like Shinsou hadn't done anything to offend him ? What had this kid gone through ?
" so I said - hey are you listening ?" Denki pulled away from his ramble that he was on about Sero and Mina.
" uh yeah , Sero accidentally kicked Ashido in the face and she fought him."
Denki's face lit up and he continued to talk. He tried his best not to zone out this time .
Yeah , things weren't perfect but he could make an effort . Right ?

Defenseless Ch. 2
Tumblr media
synopsis: CJ Jackson, looks like she has it all. Fancy car, fancy house, name  brand clothing. Her parents, top boosters to Beverly, with money to make all sorts of situations go away. As well as the Jackson family looks put together, past secrets haunt them. With the new transfer student catching the eye of CJ Jackson, can old friendships be fixed. Or are somethings just meant to stay broken. "I told you, as long as I live, no one would know."
word count: 5.2k
pairing: Jordan Baker x OC (CJ Jackson)
warnings: talk of drugs, talk of addiction, talk of a juvenile being in trouble, teen drinking, language, high school boys being high school boys.
"Maybe, we shouldn't have kept her in that school."
"Chris, we talked about this. The best way for her to contain a normal life is by staying there."
"You didn't hear her cry today, Pauline." She could hear his heavy sigh, "That baby has lost everything, and you know how teenagers can be. I don't want to lose her anymore than we already have."
"I can email Mrs. Riley, and tell the boys to be on the lookout for her. You know Colton won't let anything slip."
CJ heard her dad's loud laughter from the spot she sat. She sat on the dark staircase behind the kitchen wall listening to her parents talk. After she had come home from her terrible dance rehearsal, she had hid in her room all night doing homework and listening to music.
"Oh I know," Her dad said, "Cobe won't let anything slip either. Carver has some pull with the football boys. Roman will help too."
"What more of an Army does one girl need." Her mother said.
CJ smiled weakly, thinking of all the boys in her life. Cobe, the eldest Jackson boy, was a senior, and a soccer star. He ruled the field much like he ruled the school being the student body preside. And, holds the title like if he were the king. Every booster presentation, he wore his best suit and tie, cleaned his shoes, and had his waves done perfectly. The whole Jackson family thought he would go to Stanford or Yale, his dream colleges, but he caught them all off guard by joining the Army when he turned 18. Their mother was pissed, and didn't talk to him for 2 days. Pauline sat down with her oldest, scolded him for not telling her, but listened to his side, and supported him.
Colton and CJ were twins. Colton being the older one, and not letting CJ live that down, at all. They both had the biggest brown eyes, ones that looked like pools of honey when the sunlight caught them. Colton's main focus was basketball, and everything basketball. There were times that he wished he was named after the great Kobe Bryant. But Cobe always reminded that he should've been born first. Colton was yet to commit anywhere, wanting to wait until after his junior year. He was praying for UCLA or LSU.
Carver was the youngest Jackson sibling, being a sophomore, and an amazing tight-end, getting his dad's football talent. Even as a sophomore, he had offers already, but much like Colton, he was waiting until senior year. Carver, even though as athletic as the other brothers, was also involved in other things. Music was his passion, growing up with old "cook-out" music- as their father would say- lead him to wanting to be a music major. Carver's room was littered with vinyl records, concert posters, and 8-tracks. CJ and Carver could spend hours arguing about the main message behind Tupac's Dear Mama.
Roman was the last boy in CJ's life. He, unlike the other boys, was not related to CJ. Roman was also on the football team, and played defensive end. He was a junior like CJ and Colton. Roman had basically lived in the Jackson house, being best friends with Colton, and dating Carver. Roman and Carver had been dating for almost 2 years now, and no one knew besides the Jackson family.
Carver was out to the school, and everyone couldn't be prouder of him. Carver wasn't afraid to be who he was. The boys on the football team accepted him. But Roman, was fearful of what his parents would do. He grew up in church, and hearing his mother curse about the pride parade every year in Beverly Hills. He was terrified about what his football friends would say. Yeah, they accepted Carver, but that didn't stop the whispers in the locker room when Carver would leave.
"He was totally starring at your junk," "If he tackles you, he might get hard" "Don't catch the ball like a fairy" "I don't wanna be the only one in the showers with him," "We should get rainbow uniforms" "Maybe he would do better on the cheer team"
All the siblings had heard the whispers and rallied around Carver. CJ was Carver's biggest fan, and biggest fighter. She had taken Carver to his first pride parade when he was in 8th grade. It broke Carver when CJ was sent away. He would visit her every weekend, and send letters nonstop. He was thrilled when she came home early. But like everyone else, he had a reputation to uphold. So even he turned his back on her at school today.
"It'll all work out for her, she's too strong to let anything break her." Pauline said coming up to her husband. She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her cheek to his back, "Where are they anyway? It's too quiet."
"CJ is around the corner." Chris said and CJ froze. "You've been sitting on those stairs since you were a little girl. Can't believe there's no ass print in the wood yet."
"Chris!" Pauline said laughing. CJ let out a laugh and stood up from the stairs. She walked into the kitchen in her baggy basketball shorts and a loose t-shirt, that was probably one of her brothers, "Hey baby girl." Pauline kissed CJ's forehead, as she walked over to the oven to get dinner out, "Cauliflower steaks- request from Cobe, with  asparagus, zucchini, mushroom sauce. Pasta salad and mac n cheese for a side. Apple pie for dessert, request from-"
"Me! Ain't no more goofy ass fake ass-"
"Finish that sentence, Colton, I dare you." Mom said giving Colton her famous glare. Colton shut his mouth real quick and kissed his mom's cheek as he came and grabbed a water out of the fridge, "Boy! Go shower too! You stank!"
"Smell of success, momma!" Colton said lifting his arms up, and showing off the pit stains on his red t-shirt.
"Ugh! Who the hell let the skunk in?" Cobe said coming down the stairs and smelling Colton.
"You think you got jokes, Pres?" Colton said walking over to his older brother.
"At least he don't smell like an onion." Carver said, Roman tagging along behind him, coming into the kitchen.
"Y'all all smell!" CJ said laughing. All the boys looked at each other, before all running over to CJ.
The girl squealed and took off running from her brothers. She ran towards the opening to the living room, but Cobe ran around the other side and blocked her. She quickly turned towards the dinning room, where Carver was waiting for her. Carver ran towards her, and CJ turned around running towards the kitchen again, where her dad was ready to catch her. She dodged past her dad, and was quickly picked up in strong arms. She fought against them until she was thrown into the pool.
"Ah!" She screamed as she hit the cold water. She came up from the water splashing, and laughed as she saw all 4 men, plus Roman laughing on the pool side, "Y'all think y'all funny?"
"Oh we real funny." Colton said.
"You children!" Pauline laughed coming out of the kitchen. She threw her dish towel over her shoulder and crossed her arms. All 5 males turned towards her and froze, "Y'all done with the games?"
"Yes ma'am." They all answered at the same time.
"Good. Cobe, you're gym bag does not live by the front door, pick it up. Colton, I know I didn't raise you to smell like a garbage can, hit the shower. Carver, see that table in there, set it. Roman, you can help him. Mr. Jackson, that  salad ain't gonna make itself." Pauline said, and all the boys went their instructed ways, "And you," She said looking at her daughter who was soaking wet in the pool, "Dry off and get clean."
The next day, The Jackson siblings all arrived together in their shiny white Jeep Wrangler. Colton parked the car next to Roman's black Tahoe. CJ used to joke that Roman looked like security detail for a famous person driving that black SUV around.
"Morning, Jacksons." Roman said to the bunch as they got out of the car. Roman gave a head nod to Carver. Carver rolled his eyes and slammed the door shut.
"You going to Mrs. Riley first?" Colton asked his younger sister.
"Have to every day." CJ answered and Colton sighed, "Go on, I'll be fine."
"Mom said to look-"
"I know what mom said," CJ cut off Cobe, "But I can handle myself."
"You can eat lunch with me and Alana." Cobe offered to his sister, who just scrunched her nose up.
"If there's anyone that I hate more than Emily Pierce, it's Alana Kadee." CJ said and pulled her bag over her loose t-shirt, "I'll be fine. Besides, I have him." CJ smiled seeing Spencer waiting behind her group of brothers, "Bye."
The boys watched as CJ pushed through them and over to Spencer James, who greeted the Jackson girl with a wide smile. The two of them walked into school together, and could fell all eyes on them.
"We trust him?" Colton asked the guys.
"He a good guy, little rough on the team player shit, but he's good." Roman said.
"As long as he don't do pull a Jordan Baker on her, I'm fine with it." Cobe said and the guys agreed. "Ain't no man gonna hurt my sister again."
CJ had battled her way through Anatomy, composition, and physics by the time the lunch bell had rang. Spencer waited outside of the girl's classroom and walked with her to lunch. Spencer talked about practice and a pool party at the Baker household. CJ was quiet and let Spencer vent practice and how it went.
"So how was it hanging out with the steroid set?" CJ asked, as she picked up a piece of her sushi.
"Are you serious?" Spencer asked the girl.
CJ laughed and shook her head, "I'm kidding. I used to mess with them and say that."
Spencer laughed and studied the girl before asking, "What happened between you and them? They know you, but they act like they don't wanna know you."
CJ took a deep breath, she knew this would come up sooner or later, "We used to be close, and then things happened. They became football stars and I became the. . .social pariah of Beverly High school."
"Man, shut up you're cool." Spencer said.
"Okay, yeah, says the new guy." CJ joked, "It's shocking, I know, but no one is eager to hang out with juvie girl, post detention center."
"Juvie? Elaborate."
"I just went down a bad path, things happened out of my control." CJ shrugged, "Parents paid a big time lawyer to help me out, and here I am. 75k and 90 days later. I'm fine now, just 90 days of parole."
"Is it?" Spencer asked, looking into her honey brown eyes.
CJ was about to answer, when a tray was placed loudly down on the table. The Jackson girl looked up and saw Cobe swinging his leg over the lunch table bench. Before CJ could protest him sitting there, Roman pulled up next to her. Carver sat his stuff down on the other side of Spencer, and Colton decided to nestle himself right in between CJ and Spencer. CJ rolled her eyes and leaned forward to still talk to Spencer.
"Spencer, meet the other, uglier versions of me. Cobe, Colton, Carver, and Roman- the adopted brother." CJ said introducing the boys.
"Nice to meet you," Spencer said politely, greeting all of the boys.
"Welcome to Beverly, I'm Colton, older twin, basketball star, black belt."
"He's lying." "I'm not lying." The twins said at the same time. CJ glared at her twin brother, as a familiar female voice started speaking.
"Spencer?" The voice asked, "Oh hey Jackson brothers, and Roman."
"Hey Layla," Carver answered the light-skinned girl.
"I'm throwing a party at my place tonight. It's just a small team thing, to celebrate the start of the season, and I was hoping you could make it." Layla spoke. CJ looked down at her food and picked at it as she was talking. Cobe could feel the tension rolling off of his younger sister's body, and wanted to yell at Layla for even approaching them.
"Yeah, for sure. We'll try to come by for a bit." Roman answered for the boys. Layla smiled at him and looked at CJ.
"Great," Layla said to the table, "Bye CJ." CJ looked up at Layla as she walked away and didn't say anything. The boys all looked at CJ who just rolled her eyes. Colton watched Spencer, as his head followed Layla as she walked away, and gave him a look.
"What?" Spencer asked.
"A, she's taken. That's Asher's girlfriend, okay?" Colton said.
"And B, those parties, I'd stay clear." CJ spoke up.
Spencer agreed, but there was a look in his eye that gave away his true intentions. The lunch bell rang, dismissing the teens back to class. CJ said goodbye to the boys before heading to Mrs. Riley's room for a check in and get her community service project.  Her project was based out of Crenshaw Community Center. She'd be tutoring elementary and middle school children in Science.
When dance practice rolled around, CJ was determined to take her spot back. CJ was the first one dressed and in the gym for practice. It gave her enough time to turn her phone on and go over the Countdown dance, like it was supposed to be done.
Jordan could hear the music from down the hall as he walked Hadley to the locker room, "Are you late?" He asked his girlfriend.
"No. . . it must be Emily practicing. No matter how hard she tries, she will never be CJ good. That girl is amazing, the way she can move. Looks just like her mom when she's dancing." Hadley spoke.
"Yeah. I remember all those dance awards on her walls." Jordan smiled remembering going to her competitions, "I should get going," Jordan kissed Hadley goodbye before walking down the hallway towards the music coming from the gym.
Jordan stood in the doorway in awe, watching the way CJ flawlessly moved around the space. She was completely lost in the tempo of the song playing. Her body was telling a story, and so was the song she chose. Jordan could see the pain that was coming across in her movements. The way it looked like she couldn't catch the beat, but she was perfectly on time.
"Just don't give up, I am working it out. Please don't give in, I won't let you down. It messed me up, need a second to breathe. Just keep coming around. Hey, whataya want from me. Whataya want from me?"
Jordan couldn't help but feel guilt listening to the words. The song was picked for a reason, and CJ knew it. He watched as she flawlessly leaped into the air, and land it perfectly. Her turns were executed without any hesitation and with full control. When the music finished, she ended on her knees, her chest moving up and down rapidly as her eyes were closed, trying to slow her heart rate.
Jordan didn't know if he should clap or say something, before he could move he heard clapping from the other side of the gym. CJ opened her eyes and briefly glanced at Jordan before looking to where the sound was coming. Spencer James walked into the gym, a wide smile on his face, and CJ stood up from the ground. Jordan left as Spencer started talking to the girl. He headed down to the football locker room, trying even harder to forget about CJ Jackson.
"That was. . . amazing." Spencer spoke to the light skin girl.
"Thanks. I listened to a lot of music in juvie, and this was one of my favorite songs. It spoke to me." CJ said and her eyes drifted over to where Jordan was standing.
"Well it was amazing." Spencer said.
"It was," The pair was cut off by a familiar annoying voice breaking into the gym, "Excuse me, Spencer is it? You need to leave, closed practice. And CJ, next time you want extra ''practice'' run it by the captain first." Emily said to the two.
"Show more later?" Spencer asked CJ and the girl smiled, watching Spencer walk off.
"I don't know what you're trying to do, but you will never hold the captain spot again. You might have been the best dancer in the conference, but not anymore." Emily sneered to CJ. CJ took one step getting in Emily's face, and could feel the girl uncomfortable by the sudden conforntation.
"The only person who won't be holding a captain spot anymore is you. And trust me sis, it's not me who needs the extra practice. The mess you call a dance, is a shit show and you know it. It's a Beyonce song, and you ain't it sweetie.  You are more like. . ." CJ paused looking the ginger girl up and down, "Chanel West Coast, and I'm Nicki Minaj. No competition at all."
CJ pushed past Emily, and grabbed her water bottle as the rest of the dance team started filling in the gym. Emily walked over to a group of girls and yelled at them to start stretching. Mrs. Williams came into the gym and set down her clipboard and called all the girls together.
"We are learning a new dance today, and CJ will be teaching it." Mrs. Williams said. CJ smirked as she felt Emily's glare on her back, "So let's get ready. Spread out."
"Chrisy?" Her mother spoke, knocking on her bedroom door. CJ sat up from the blankets she was buried under and paused the Twilight movie she was watching, "No plans tonight? It's a Friday night."
"These are my plans." CJ said pointing to a half naked Taylor Lautner on her TV screen.
"Half naked werewolf boys aren't a plan." Pauline laughed and walked over to sit on her daughter's bed, "I know that there is a team party at Layla's tonight."
"I know. I knew I probably couldn't go anyway."
"Your curfew is midnight, on the dot, no later. Colton will drive you and Dad will pick you up."
"Mom, are you say. . ."
"You have been through enough. Your Dad, Mrs. Riley, and I talked, we agreed that going to a team party with your brothers was okay. As long as you promise you can pass a drug test tomorrow morning."
CJ jumped up from her bed and hugged her mother tightly. Pauline smiled and hugged her daughter back. It was the first time in months that the two have hugged each other like this, in a happy moment.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" CJ squealed.
"You're welcome. Now get dress, child, you look a mess. And no Jackson child of mine will be looking a mess." Pauline said smiling at her daughter. CJ smiled at her mother and then jumped up towards her closet. CJ invited her mother to stay and help her get ready for the party.
Pauline, her mother, was a retired Dallas Cowgirl dancer, and now an editor for Vogue. Pauline had met Chris Jackson after the Chiefs had played the Cowboys, and it was love at first sight. She had grown up in east Oakland, and had come from nothing. She danced to put herself through college, which she ended up getting her degree in Dance. She worked hard for what she wanted, and wanted people to know that. She expected the best out of her kids, and wanted them to always put their best foot forward.
CJ let her mom fix her box braids, pulling them half up, half down. She wore a baggy black Aliyah t-shirt with a stripped long sleeve underneath it. Her jeans were loose with more hole then there were jean. She pulled on her crisp white air forces and smiled at herself.
"Beautiful." Pauline smiled and kissed her daughter's forehead, "Remember, midnight. Colton's downstairs waiting for you."
CJ nodded and headed downstairs where her twin was waiting. CJ and Colton made their way to the lime green 1972 camaro, which was Colton's baby. He only brought it out for important events such as parties, homecoming, dates, and prom.
"Scratch the paint, and you're dead." He told his twin as she opened the door to the car.
The party was in full swing when they arrived. The door to the Keating household was wide open, and you could hear the music from down the street. Teens were on couches doing bong hits, shots, making out. Red solo cups were in almost every teen hand. Splashes could be seen as the glass doors to the outside were pulled back.
"Hey Colt!" A half naked JJ said as he came up to the twins, "CJ, my girl." JJ tried to hug the twins but they both pushed him back seeing as he was soaking wet.
"Leave it to JJ to make me feel somewhat welcome." CJ said to her brother. He smirked and threw his arm over her shoulder.
"You are welcome, you always have been. If they don't accept you, you don't need them. Now come on, I guarantee there is a Sprite tropic berry with your name on it."
At some point during the party, the siblings had broken away from each other. Colton was probably in some room with one of the many girls at the party. And CJ sat alone, her feet swinging over the side of the deck, as looked at the California hills. It was peaceful for her, she hadn't seen the lights of the city like this in a long time. The view of Layla's house had been one of the many things she liked about it.
"You lost?" Jordan Baker said standing behind her. CJ sighed and didn't say anything, but swing her legs back to the side of the deck, and stand up. She brushed herself off and started walking away from Jordan, "Where are you going?"
"Away. I know when I'm not wanted somewhere." She said to the QB. Jordan sighed and grabbed her arm stopping her in her tracks. CJ tore her arm away from his grasp and looked at him, "You dumb or had one too many concussions?"
"CJ. . ."
"Your parents made it pretty damn clear what they expect from you and Olivia. And that's to stay away from me. So why don't you do that." CJ sneered.
"CJ, Jesus Christ, would you just stop!" Jordan said trying to stop her again, "I wanted to say sorry, and just talk to you."
"Sorry? You wanted to say 'sorry'? Sorry isn't going to suffice. What would've been the epic sorry would've been telling the truth that day, but you couldn't do that."
"CJ I-"
"It's fine, Jordan. Now leave me alone." CJ said and turned on her heel, and trying to get as far away from that party as possible. She knew she shouldn't have been there, but she thought, maybe if they were all drunk they'd forget about the mistakes that were made last year.
CJ woke up with the worst possible headache that she could have. And she hadn't even been drinking. Her parents had woken her up bright in early to go to the scrimmage game. The boosters were invited, meaning her parents. So CJ sat on the cold bleachers with her green cardigan on, shivering in the cool morning. She watched her mother hand Carver and Roman each a water bottle and a snack. Cobe was busy introducing the boosters to the football coaches and showing them the additions to the football stadium.
"Why am I here?" CJ asked her mother.
"Learning how to be a football wife." Pauline joked, causing the young girl to laugh, "I will never understand why women spend so much on botox and fake boobs." Pauline glanced over at JJ's mother, who had just gotten her 2nd boob job done.
"Cause black don't crack, but white sure do." CJ said and Pauline shoved her shoulder laughing, "Let's go Carvy!" CJ cheered watching her younger brother run on to the field.
"That number 11 looks rough." Her dad pointed out, coming to sit by his wife and daughter, "Thought that was supposed to be wonder boy, looks like under boy to me."
CJ looked at Spencer, who was getting the snot beat out of him. He looked awful, and completely out of it. CJ wondered what had happened when she left the party last night. Every play that was made to Spencer, he messed it up in some way. Each time the offense would walk off the field, he looked beat and tired. At the end of the scrimmage, Spencer walked off the field looking defeated. Carver had made his way over to were his parents and sister were standing.
"Nice work, young man." Chris said patting his son on the shoulders, "Almost as good as me."
"I am as good as you."
"What's up with that James kid?" Pauline asked her youngest.
"No clue, but dude reeks like a party bus. Him and JJ must've had a competition last night." Carver said looking over at where Spencer was now talking to Jordan and Asher, "Or those two did something."
The Jackson family turned and watched a heated argument breakout. Spencer threw his helmet down and lunged towards Asher. CJ gasped and took a step forward, but Chris put his arm out in front of her, stopping her movement. The family watched Billy Baker came and controlled Spencer, and the assistant coach take Jordan and Asher away from the spectacle. CJ looked at the rest of the boosters who were also looking at the show in front of them. Cobe was quick to catch CJ's pleading glance to get them out of here, and somewhere else.
"Alright, let's go see where the best team, my team, the soccer team is practicing." Cobe said and the boosters followed him out of the football stadium.
"Billy was pulling for this kid and I have no reason why." Chris said watching Billy talk to his son.
"Maybe the Bakers should worry about they're own kids, seems like they can't control them." Pauline said and Chris nodded in agreement, "Let's go, the boys should be about done."
"I'll meet you guys at the car." CJ said and her parents agreed. CJ waited a moment and then walked over to where Jordan was. He was the only football player left on the field, "You do that to every new player?"
Jordan looked over at the Jackson girl and shrugged, "You don't get it."
"Oh I don't?" CJ questioned and walked over to Jordan, "Cause it looks like. . . you're being a huge dick."
Jordan sighed and set his helmet down on the bench, "You don't see the way he looks at Spencer. Like. . .he's the son he's always wanted."
"J, you know that's not true." CJ said using the nickname she had given him. Jordan couldn't help the butterflies that arose in his stomach when she said that, "Look where you are at, right now. Beverly Hills High School. Where do you live? In the Hills. What car do you drive? A 2019 camaro convertible. What does Spencer have?"
"I know. . ." Jordan says hanging his head in shame, "You're right."
"Your dad is trying to give a kid a chance. Your dad was much like Spencer, growing up in Crenshaw and someone gave him a chance. He is doing that to Spencer. You don't get it, because you have always had that chance."
"When did you get like this?" Jordan said looking at the girl.
"Like what?" CJ asked.
"Reasonable." Jordan simply said.
"I spent 90 days in a detention center. I was lucky, someone gave me a chance. If someone who's dad wasn't a retired football player and who's mother wasn't a editor for vogue who couldn't hire the best attorney in their county did the same thing I did. . . they would've gotten jail time instead of 90 days in juvie." CJ answered.
"Why didn't you take the plea? Why didn't you want a defense?" Jordan asked her but CJ just turned her head, "Why did you even take the blame anyway?"
CJ sighed and looked in Jordan's brown eyes, "You know why."
"But do I really? CJ, you wouldn't have been sent to-"
"Jordan." The two teens looked over to where the call came from. Laura Baker stood off the side, her arms folded in front of her. CJ took a step back from Jordan and looked down at her feet. She could feel the hate radiating off of Laura Baker. If looks could kill, CJ would be dead by now, "Why don't you go hit the showers. Now."
Jordan nodded and grabbed his helmet before walking off the field. CJ watched him leave and turned on her heel to head to her parents' car. Laura stepped in front of CJ, cutting off her path and looked down at the teen.
"What are you doing here? Do you needed reminded about the terms of your parole, Miss Jackson?" Laura asked the teen.
Before CJ spoke her mother spoke for her, "No, she doesn't, Laura. The best thing you can do is stop talking to my daughter before we have another issue on your hands."
Laura looked at the Jacksons before moving out of the way. Pauline led her daughter to the waiting black range rover, and where her husband stood. Chris opened the door for CJ and his wife. CJ looked at Laura one last time before her dad pulled out of the parking lot.

Tumblr media
CHAPTER ONE • CHAPTER TWO • CHAPTER THREE • CHAPTER FOUR
m.list
Pairing: Mark Lee x Reader x Yuta
Genre: Angst, Fluff
warnings: none for this chapter
Plot: what happens when you feel like a failure yet again like always and you’re not enough in a new city and accidentally meet a stranger who is broken himself but changes your life along with his own by a short encounter near the Vancouver river
————————————————
You woke around afternoon because you slept at 3:30 am and spent the last night listening to soft alternative music, drinking cheap wine and looking at the sky; it wasn’t starry in particular but you always liked nights like this.
You get up to make coffee for yourself and your phone buzzes.
Yuta: Heyyy
Yuta: The party thing is still on, right??
You suddenly realise that it's Saturday and start panicking. You go to your closet and start finding something to wear but you’re too confused and you feel nothing looks that good according to you. So you call Yuta immediately.
he picks up after 3 rings
"hello?? y/n, what's up? don’t say you can’t make it and break my heart.” he chuckles.
“Hey no! I won't do something like that yEt but well anyway that's not why I called you. I called you because I’m confused as to what should i wear and i wanted to ask you, uhhh
what would you be wearing?”
“well it's just a bunch of rich kids renting an airbnb and throwing a party, nothing fancy?  He sighs and continues  “I’m literally so excited to see you again idk why but can’t wait”
You try for it to not affect you that much and stop yourself from smiling that much and continue “Yes me too”
“anyway y/n I’ll pick you up around 10:30?”
“sure”
——————————————————————
You started getting ready around 9 after having some leftovers from last night. You were wondering about how things in your life were going pretty smoothly and how Yuta was everything you wanted in a guy. It really had been a week since met him and he texted you the night you met him in the coffee shop.
You both talked about music, anime, how you felt about the city, he talked about japan and his old neighborhood where he grew up and realized you both were going to the same university and Mark too.
You looked yourself in the mirror. You were wearing your 560 levi’s and a black cropped tank with your chelsea boots. You wore silver hoops and a small lock necklace. You were about to finish your look with a clear lipgloss when you heard your doorbell ring and figured who it might be.
You finished applying your gloss quickly and rushed to open the door and saw him standing there with a smug smile on his face and his pretty eyes. His eyes were almost too pretty. He was wearing a black shirt with a pair of light washed jeans as well.
“Oh my goodness you’re looking almost as pretty as me” he said, widening his eyes with an open mouth smile showing his perfect teeth.
Why is he so pretty? What's happening to you y/n?
You rolled your eyes while laughing and said “ha ha ha right” sarcastically.
“And look! We’re matching! No wait… you copied me”
“We’re matching, yes. I copied you, it's not even possibly possible einstein.”
“But anyway y/n, you look- “
“Amaaazing, i know.” you both laughed.
“Now, shall we?” He held out his hand and you took it.
-----
You enter the place and see a tall guy with brown hair walking up to the two of you with a huge smile and hugs Yuta.
“y/n this is Johnny, johnny this is y/n.”
“Dude wow! She pretty pretty- “
“TOLD YA” Yuta says while shrugging
“Hi Johnny and thanks” you shake his hand and smile.
 “Hey John, where's Mark?”
“You know he hates parties, he's probably in the balcony or somewhere drinking his beer.”
You weren't much fond of parties yourself but you came anyway as you already had no social life here and didn't know anyone else other than Sehun who lived in front of you and Kaitlyn your college friend.
You played a round of beer pong with Yuta, Johnny, Taeyong (his other ‘bro’) and some other people. At this point you were somewhat tipsy and wanted to have some water. So you went to the kitchen to get some water for yourself and for some reason the kitchen was somewhat dark but illuminated by the light coming from outside so you didn't bother to switch on the lights.
You walk inside, you hear somebody “Y/n?” You jump
  “MARK???!!”
 “Yes its me, calm down.”
“MY HEART WAS GONNA COME OUT OF MY CHEST, YOU DUMBASS!” you almost screamed
“I'm sorry I must've startled you” he chuckles.
“No shit sherlock”  you roll your eyes and he starts laughing, it's almost like he's squeaking. It's cute.
After he stops, there's awkward silence between the two of you. You gulp down the water in your glass.
“So how are things going between you and Yuta?” he finally asks.
“Good” you nod your head “great, I mean. He’s a nice guy and he's funny but very cocky. I think that's why I like him that much.”
He chuckles again “I know he can get very cocky but it is indeed funny. He might look like an asshole to people or intimidation but he's a good guy.”
“What’s up with your ex thing btw? Do you still miss her or-” you try to make conversation and also you were genuinely curious about how he is coping up with it because the first time you saw him, he looked pathetic.
“Oh no no i don't anymore, i don't care about her anymore and i've realized that the whole dating shit is not for me i guess. Plus i like being alone now, it's comforting and i don't have to worry about ‘how to tell her that i hate being around her friends’ thing.”
 “Right”
“Also did i tell you that you look good with that haircut.”
“Thanks” you smile. “My brother thinks i look like a 7th grader.”
“No wayyyy. It suits you” he gives a genuine smile”
You thank him and then you remember “Oh Yuta, Johnny and your other friends were looking for you!”
You leave the kitchen with Mark and you see Yuta, Taeyong and Johnny near the staircase.
You walk to them and Yuta says “Oh markkk where were you? I’ve been looking for you since I walked in.”
  “I was uh-”
“y/n where’d you find him and where were you ???” yuta asks you this time.
“I went to get water in the kitchen and i saw him there.”
Yuta got asked, “Oh.. are you fine??!!”
You noticed him completely ignoring the other three’s existence which made you feel special but guilty for some reason.
You shook your thoughts away and replied
“Uhm yes i don't know, i'm good, just a little exhausted.”
  “Should i take you home?”
“No, it's fine, I can take the train and go back on my own.”
“It's not safe at this hour, I'll drop you.”
With that you both take off after saying goodbyes to johnny, mark and taeyong.
 ---------------------
MARKS POV/
After y/n and Yuta left,, Taeyong went to get smirnoff and
Johnny asked,”Hey Mark! Uhm why do you like y/n by any chance too?”
He caught me off guard by asking that and there were sirens ringing in my head and i didn’t know how to respond to it but i knew that lying wouldn't be a sensible option because he would easily catch me in seconds but i still tried to act as if i didn't know what he was talking about and said
“W-what makes you think that?” I fake laughed.
“Listen bro idk how others didn't notice but you know you were being quite obvious. Like when he rushed next to her to ask if she's okay, your face screamed that you were sooo jealous, i don't know what you plan on doing next but i really suggest you talk to her about it bro.”
“man, i thought of it kinda and tried asking her about what's up with the whole situation and honestly, she seemed to really like him and well i don't wanna get into whatever they have for each other by confessing it to her and like i don't even know her so it's just plain weird for me to think of anything.” I tried to justify what I was doing to him and it felt more like trying to justify myself.
I went ahead and told johnny about how we actually met and how back then i was a coward and not smart enough to say anything but i realized i didn't really get a chance to say something to her and started wondering about what johnny said.
Was it that obvious? What am i trying to do? Am I a bad friend?
 ------------------------------------
You reached your building around 1ish and Yuta tried to ask you out on another date but this time he said it'd be a proper just you-and-him-alone-date and you thought it'd be cool because so far things were going too well and you liked him too.
It was weird for you to process how vocal he was about his feelings for you and you realized that's probably the most attractive thing about him, he wasn't playing games with your feelings like you're used to otherwise and it was nice for a change.
You would have your mind wondering about mark once a while but you’d force yourself to tap back into reality.
