self insert intro post! (and my two main f/os if you squint)
so i have two main self insert characters, both of whom are fleshed out characters of their own and yeah they *might* be just the tiniest bit mary sue-ish but this is my dollhouse and these are my dolls, i can do what i like.
first up we have my ffvii s/i, renaria (i often shorten her name to ren). she's a SOLDIER third class being mentored one-on-one by sephiroth and they eventually develop a relationship beyond mentor and student. most if not all of the stuff i write about them is pre-nibelheim, pre- or mid-crisis core timeframe. still working on stuff for post-nibelheim/advent children timeframe. these two are currently my favourite to play around with in my head.
second off is my destiny s/i, rose! in her first life she was an artist who carved statues and made paintings for the awoken royalty and was engaged to prince uldren, and now in her second life she's an awoken warlock fighting to keep the last city safe. she rekindles her relationship with uldren until forsaken happens and then eventually ends up in a relationship with crow.
each of these characters has their own tags and in posts i will usually refer to them just with their emojis (mainly to avoid clogging the canon characters' main tags with my insane ramblings). the tags are as follows:
renaria - #my blood burns eternal || 🔥
rose - #the unfinished painting || 🎨
sephiroth - #and black feathers fall down || 🪶
uldren/crow - #to live is to tell a story || 🐦

The artists of the 141 🎨🖼️
-
It’s well known to anyone who knows Soap that the man can draw. Of course not everyone sees his drawings, as most of them are hidden away in his personal journal.
But people see his small doodles on spare papers during meetings or during training. Some of the privates always try to laugh at Soap for it, they learn to shut up after a glaring threat from ghost’s eyes. (Or if Soap himself is feeling feisty, will set off demolitions maybe a bit too close to those hard headed fuckers).
Regardless, Soap had been deemed the artist of the 141 and was thought to be the only one.
That is until Ghost and Soap get together.
They’re on leave and for the first time, Soap is staying with Ghost in his apartment. Upon walking in, the place is very clearly kept clean but has bouts of charm that just scream Simon.
What Johnny wasn’t expecting though, was the amount of clay objects that sit in the building. There are a variety of pots, some small sculptures of animals, plants- what have you.
As Simon shows Johnny around the flat, he stresses that one room- the first one down the hall- is not to be opened nor entered. Soap of course agreed, even if his curiosity went up tenfold.
They go about their leave together and apart. Some days Johnny would go on his runs solo, or go explore the area just for the sake of getting fresh air. Other times they’ll both go somewhere together. Usually in the mornings they will go to a local coffee shop and get breakfast. Maybe go to a book store or play some board games at the flat.
What Johnny has noticed through his stay, is despite how much both are around each other- everyday without fail for at least for an hour, Simon disappears into the room barred off from Johnny.
Johnny, has admittedly tried to get sneak peaks the first few time Simon walks in and out of it. Unfortunately, Johnny always walks away with no more than he started with.
.
It’s towards the end of their leave, Johnny sits on the couch, drawing the painted pot that sits on the kitchen hen counter. It’s a quaint thing, painted with flowing blues of many hues, bringing life to an otherwise still thing.
He’s pulled from his musings though, when he hears the quiet squeak of the forbidden door open and the soft thuds on the floorboard as Simon steps out, dusting his hands off.
Their eyes meet, and Simon jerks his head slightly towards the room, gesturing for Johnny to come in.
Johnny’s eyebrows furrow in confusion as he lays his pencil down on the table along with his sketchbook. “Are ye sure?” He asks quietly.
Simon just nod’s silently and crosses his arms as he stands by the door frame. Johnny, while a bit startled by the sudden change in rules about the room, gets up from the couch and moves to follow Simon.
He was expecting…well Johnny really wasn’t sure what he was expecting, but he wasn’t expecting a studio.
The room is fairly small, but each nook and cranny is filled with something. Be it tools or clay, or finished and unfinished sculptures. There are some pots, some wonky or chipped while busts stand proudly on a few displays.
The busts form the faces of people Johnny has never met, but had heard stories of from the sculptor himself. One is of a woman with a depressive but kind smile, another is of a man with similar features to Simon, though a bit younger, his look is self assured, but there’s wisdom in his eyes. There’s another woman, her eyes bright and her smile brighter. Right next to those two is of a young boy, with kind and innocent eyes.
Eventually Johnny’s eyes fall to the middle of the room where a sculpture of sorts is covered in a thin gray sheet.
“Simon this is…” Johnny finds himself with a lack of words, feeling like he just entered the most important museum that will ever exist.
In silence, Simon puts a gentle hand on Johnny’s shoulder and moves past him, standing next to the supposed new sculpture. Once Simon was sure he had Johnny’s attention, he pulled the sheet off revealing a statue of Johnny himself.
The bust is almost uncanny with how accurate it is. From each line of his Mohawk to the small scar that sits hidden on Johnny’s stubbled chin.
The artist within Johnny’s mind reels as he stares at the bust, absorbing every small detail. His lover part of him can only swoon. The sound of a deep rubbling voice breaks him out of his spell.
“Admittedly, it’s not all done. I had planned on doing more than just a bust, but I wasn’t able to get a clay order in on time and well…I had to make do.” Simon speaks softly, his eyes looking to the side rather than at Johnny. Shy, is the word that comes to Johnny’s mind. The Scot can only smile and move to cradle Simon’s face in his hands.
“It’s lovely Simon, thank you.” Johnny says with a soft kiss on Simon’s cheek just for good measure.
Never once had Johnny thought Simon to be a sculptor, yet he finds his lover wears it well.
If the next times that Johnny’s sketches end up becoming sculptures of fine clay made by place scarred hands, Johnny can only smile and kiss his Simon a thousand times more.
-
Something wholesome??? That’s crazy.
Anyway, sorry to the COD lot of you that come here for this stuff and not Ghost band stuff (I fear there will be lots more)- thank you for holding out while the ‘tism goes loco.

Samantha and Nellie’s Northwoods Adventures
As I’ve already mentioned, last weekend Samantha, Nellie, Kaya, and I went to my family’s Cottage in Northern Wisconsin! 🌲 Samantha had visited the Cottage with me when I was little, but a lot had changed since she (and I) had last been there; and this was Nellie’s first time ever! Sam described it to her as being like a smaller version of Piney Point, where Nellie had joined her and Grandmary on vacation after being adopted into the family. I already shared photos of what Kaya did up North, so now here’s Sam and Nellie’s Northwoods adventures!
We left in the afternoon, but the drive to the Cottage is four hours(!), so it was already evening by the time we got there. In keeping with Cottage traditions, I rang the loud, clanging ship’s bell 🔔 that’s mounted on a pole near the door to announce our arrival to the forest and the few neighboring cabins. That first night, we really only had time to unpack and get settled before going to bed.
The girls were so excited they stayed up late into the night, snuggled into their sleeping bags, talking in low tones and giving the occasional hushed giggle.
Despite the late night, we awoke bright and early for the first full day.
Breakfast somehow tastes especially delicious when eaten in a cabin by a wide window with a lakeside view.
After breakfast, I was mainly occupied with taking the pictures of Kaya and swimming 🏊, so the two girls were left to their own devices for most of the day, but Nellie did join my mother, stepfather, and me on the pier later on.
Nellie stood on the pier, staring out at the bright blue sky over the deeper blue of the waters.
We also discovered a perfectly doll-sized chair that matched the bigger ones, so of course I had to take advantage of that!
She relaxed in the chair in the warm early evening sunlight, listening to the waves lap at the wooden planks.
The next day, I was so exhausted that I ended up sleeping into the early afternoon, and by the time I woke up the sunshine had been replaced by a wet, cloudy sky. Samantha passed the time painting 🎨 on the deck (Virginia had kindly allowed her to borrow her paints and easel) until it began raining 🌧️ in earnest.
The gray day was a little disheartening, but Samantha made the best of it with Virginia’s borrowed paint set (though she did have to duck inside with the painting still unfinished when the occasional light spotting of rain turned into a regular drizzle).
After it began to pour, we went back inside and made popcorn 🍿 before retiring early.
The last day seemed to sneak up on us before we knew it. It started out gray again, but Sam and Nellie decided to take a walk with Jip 🐕 anyway, and while they were playing ball the sun came out again.
Jip was full of energy, so they decided to tire him out with a game of keep-away. Sam and Nellie tossed the bright red ball back and forth, Jip running back and forth between them, following the ball’s progress and occasionally leaping up in an attempt to grab it out of the air. Finally he caught it and paraded around proudly with it, then sat down to chew it and refused to relinquish it for several minutes until he was convinced the game was over.
After a short rest, it was time to head back inside to pack up again and begin the long journey back home.
The sun had come out during the game, and both girls were feeling hot and winded. They sat down on a fallen birch to catch their breath, grateful that they’d brought along a big jug of iced tea*. Jip already seemed energetic again, wagging his stubby tail and sniffing eagerly through the dead leaves. “I think he tired us out!” Nellie laughed, a little breathlessly. They sat and drank their tea, listening to the sounds of nature (and the occasional sharp bark from Jip when he saw a squirrel), reluctant to leave… but eventually they went back inside to pack and say goodbye to the Cottage.
“I hope we can come back next year!” Nellie remarked, watching the Cottage dwindle down the road behind them, before disappearing around a bend and being lost to sight.
THE END
*I realized after taking the photo that their mugs of tea look kind of like beer steins, but I promise they’re not 😅
BONUS:
(In case anyone was wondering what Samantha's finished painting looked like!)
I’m thinking of covering my poor attempt at a birch tree in the lower left with something else… a pine tree perhaps, or maybe just re-painting the trunk so it’s brown instead of white with black marks… though then I’d have to make it much darker than the surrounding dirt, to make it stand out. I’m open to suggestions!

Say hello to my Grilled Fish paint palette! 🎨
I thought it would be fun to make a ceramic paint palette using the slab technique, but I also wanted to give it my own spin. Since I have been working on incorporating animals into my designs, I made a fish with the scales being the paint wells. I also wanted to section a part for holding brushes, since I often have the problem with finding a place for them while painting. This piece is a prototype, for me to feel out how to make a palette, gauge thicknesses, drying techniques and glazes.
I chose the Botz Speckle Cream 9886 stoneware glaze since I had used it on other pieces and liked the iron speckle effect. Fired to 1250C. It gives the fish a grilled look and also repels any colour stains. I’ve been using it to mix underglazes for my other pieces and it looks new and unused after I wash it each time. All in all, a successful prototype, and I’m looking forward to making more animal palettes in the future!
I painted a series of seascapes during my summer in Cornwall, and used them for this photo shoot. They are really quite small, and I enjoyed the reduced pressure in painting due to that and my general lack of experience with painting 🌝 If you struggle with 2-D media like me, I highly recommend starting small! I have a graveyard of unfinished canvases stashed in the storage now..

Heron WIP
This is a study I started painting of a heron, it's unfinished but thought I would post it in its WIP state. I might finish it at some point who knows. 😅
I wanted to keep the painting quite loose, and focus on colour matching well and blocking out the important shapes. If I come back to it I will post an update, this was a fun one to do. 🎨

Hi Krem! I don’t know if anyone has asked you this already but I’m very curious, from one artist to another. 🫶🎨 What’s your process for uploading such high quality pictures of your art? Do you have a way you scan each piece? Do you do anything digitally afterwards or do you usually keep it fairly simple when you upload?
(do you mind getting these technical kind of questions? Apologies if you do. Love your watercolor work.)💗
I love receiving technical questions! I literally cannot shut up about this things.
I have a very specific way to scan my paintings which very clearly shows my masochistic tendencies. I paint on fairly large formats (usually 40x60 cm / 15.7x23.6 inches) and I have an old shitty A4 scanner which means I have to scan every 1/4 of the painting individually and then merge all pieces together in Photoshop. Why won't I buy a new bigger scanner and save myself the trouble? Excellent question 🤔
I scan my paintings in 300 DPI so they are really fucking huge on the computer screen. And I do postprocess them in Photoshop in regards to contrast/shadows/lighting/colors, because watercolors is a pale technique and scanning absolutely DESTROYS all of those (or maybe my shitty scanner is guilty of that? What a mystery).
Anyways I made a little graphic to show you the differences.
(The phone camera photo has such a shitty quality and it's unfinished because that's a still from my in-progress video. I don't have any other photos of this painting on my phone, I'm on vacation right now and I didn't take my paintings with me 😂 )
Thank you for asking, I love your art too!

Send me 3-5 emojis and I'll write you a drabble based off of them.
Kotetsu may not look it, but he's actually a very talented painter. Of course, with hero duties and all that on his plate, it's a bit hard for him to do it often... But when he does, it usually turns out pretty damn well.
Not that he ever sells them or anything -- there's a reason no one really knows about it. He sends them all home to his family, who usually displays them for at least some time.
Barnaby finds out by pure chance when Kotetsu doesn't pick up his phone and is missing the fact Barnaby is here to take him to the movies.
He pushes into the house and sees an unfinished painting, as well as Kotetsu, clearly sick out of his mind nearby. He approaches it, looks it over, and checks Kotetsu for a fever (thankfully none, he thinks to himself).
"I didn't know you painted," he says.
"Just a hobby," Kotetsu manages to say. "Shit... is it time for the movie?"
"...I think that can wait, you should rest for now." Barnaby looks back at the painting.
Missing the movies was worth it for this.

A little painting in the tape) 🎨🎨🎨
I'm trying to learn how to paint with gouache 🖌
Here you can see one of my college still lifes. And a few attempts to analyze and copy other artist's still lifes. 🖼 I chose to repeat Kuprin's paintings, because I liked his style and simplicity) The still lifes seem to be unfinished, which makes them look much nicer. ✨✨✨
Now I have a session in college, when I pass all the exams, I will be more active in tumblr!

Writing ask!! 🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?
💡How many WIPs do you currently have?
🔎 Does anyone beta read or edit your fics?
🎯 Do you have a writing milestone you’re working towards?
🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
<3 Thanks for the ask, Ace!
🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?
For most of my life, I've only written original fiction, but I started writing fanfiction because it's so much less stressful for me. I still work on my original fiction, too, but, when I'm stressed out or need a break, I like the fun of just writing a few thousand words of someone else's characters for a while. It takes the pressure off, lets me have fun, and I still get writing practice. It's a win-win.
💡How many WIPs do you currently have?
If I'm counting everything in my "unfinished" folder, somewhere from 10-15? I'm not sure what counts as a WIP and is just ramblings in Google docs, honestly.
🔎 Does anyone beta read or edit your fics?
Usually, no. It's just me writing and then trying to make sure no wayward commas or wonky sentences have snuck through. However, if I'm feeling iffy about a chapter/fic/scene, I do have a few friends I will ask for advice or editing help.
🎯 Do you have a writing milestone you’re working towards?
My big goal is to write and publish a novel. :)
🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Oh, that's a tough one! One of my favorite mental images from something I've written is Crosshair flipping Echo off with his nails painted pink. But I would also delight in anything from Sing Me a Song or one of my OCs.
