If I had a nickel for every time there were gay delivery guys in the horror podcasts I listen to, then I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
(Breekon & Hope, and The Tonys)

I’m so happy non-binary and gender non-comforming people are getting recognition for their amazing work!!!
…I’d be even happier if they didn’t have to be misgendered to receive said recognition but I guess Hollywood and Broadway are somehow less inclusive than the fucking DMV

J. Harrison Ghee looked AMAZING at the Tonys, I just had to draw them
And my god I’m so happy they won a tony, and Alex Newell, they both deserve it so much
It was truly a euphoric experience seeing them win
Also this happened 😳:

My Thoughts On The Eddie Redmayne Cabaret Performance (as an actress and theatre kid myself)
So, for those of you possibly reading this who are not caught up, this performance at this year's Tonys is getting a lot of attention at the moment, especially if you happen to be on the theatre side of any social media.
The performance is getting all of this attention mainly because of one thing: Eddie Redmayne's portrayal of The Emcee.
If you watch the performance, Eddie moves in an almost puppet like manner, with jerky movements, and a wide smile plastered on his face. He's almost using his movements to make the environment turn haunting.
It's the exact kind of feeling that someone would seek out at the theatre, and yet, it's getting so much hate? Why?
Just from a quick read-through of the Wikipedia page for Cabaret (specifically looking at the Cast and Characters section, though the whole page proved useful here) The Emcee is described as "a leering, ghoulish, flamboyant figure." Seems to me that Eddie echoed this idea quite well with his performance.
So far, I think the only problem with this version of The Emcee is that he is completely lacking the sexual tones that are rather important to the character. I wonder, however, if this is not entirely Eddie's fault.
The rabbit hole that is this performance led me to this review from the New York Times, talking about the entire production that's been running at the August Wilson Theater, not just the televised Tonys performance, or Eddie Redmayne's The Emcee. In the review, it seems like The Emcee was not the only character changed in certain ways, and, although Eddie does talk about how he embodied The Emcee here, I wonder if it was not all him, but also the director (no hate to her at all, she seems wonderful!!). I wonder if, during the revising of The Emcee, director Rebecca Frecknall intentionally opted for the more puppet like, less sexual version of the character, so it flowed better with the show.
My overall opinion of the performance was that it was actually really good, albeit different than what one might expect from Cabaret or The Emcee. Eddie nailed the haunting yet magnetic mannerisms I would want from someone playing The Emcee, and he really took it above and beyond, which I personally believe is what an actor should do.
Either way, this is just my opinion, formed from a Cabaret deep dive, and I (sadly) cannot get to a showing of the musical, so I am forced to read reviews, watch what I can, and base my ideas off of that.
What do y'all think about the performance?
