I wish I had pushed the angle on this one a little more to match what I'd imagined for this scene from the end of chapter 14 of Mand'alor Cabur by @nautilicious but at this point stubborness has kicked in and I've dug in my heals so this is what I'm working with! In other news I've picked my birthday project for this year, and in my post-vacation optimism I see a chance to get this at least to a lines-and-flats (and maybe even some lighting???) stage by the end of next week, which would be very great for me! That is if the green background doesn't completely sabotage me in the process...
#bobadin#boba x din#look at me returning to this ship ayy!!#I love drawing them sitting around each other okay?#and this time Din has some dimensions to his torso ayy! that has been bugging me SO MUCH from that pic where they are chilling on the ranco#I'm getting SLOWLY but surely better at this armor drawing thing. thank you clone armor you hellish plastic nightmare#wip#my art#boba fett#din djarin#star wars fanart#they have their helmets somewhere covered by their bodies. just know that they are there#could I have picked an easier angle for Din's face? yes. would it have felt like failure? absolutely#I wanted to sit on it until I could see how far I would get with it by my birthday but i just felt too warm and happy with this wip#faults (many there are) and all this sketch went suspiciously fast!#serves me right to feel like i forgot how drawing works now that it's done lol

ok so like i’ve seen a few posts blaming mira and ephraim for what happened to ezra and i think that is. a weird take. anyway my personally belief is that tzeebo wasn’t their only plan for ezra if they were taken because they feel like the kind of people to have a network of allies if the goddamn governer of lothal was their friend. i also imagine that they weren’t the only people taken by the empire that night or afterwards, because i feel like it’s implied that they weren’t the only people speaking out against the empire? so like, they probably had a network of people to take care of ezra if something happened but that network dissolved due to arrests, people fleeing, etc etc until there was no way for anyone to find ezra or for ezra to find anyone else and then he was on his own and it was no one’s fault but the empire.
#star wars rebels#star wars#ezra bridger#people villainizing mira and ephraim are so weird 2 me#i don’t really know how to explain why i hate it so much but it’s just. something#maybe because it’s kind of victim blaming i guess? or saying like ‘speaking out is only okay if you’re the perfect voice for it’#which is funny because that is. exactly the opposite of what their broadcasts were about#anyway#also irl i think a lot of activists ARE parents. from what my own parents have said. having kids does change your perspective on the future#like yeah of course they spoke out. their kid was born on the day the empire took over and they watched the galaxy fall to even more shit.#they spoke out because they wanted things to be better for him and it’s not their fault that things went wrong

hot take Deadpool and Wolverine wasn't that good it was sort of just Ryan jacking off about how much money Disney was giving him, fanservice, and comic book/tv show references that only the most hardcore nerds would get.
#cannoli all over the keyboard#nothing wrong with being a hardcore marvel nerd however i think if it's gonna be a movie it should make sense to an uninformed person#not even uninformed in the sense that i haven't seen the other two Deadpool movies. i have.#but i don't have the time nor any interest in watching the marvel tv shows or hunting down comics#from what i understand i would have enjoyed the movie if i had watched Loki and wandavision and maybe the new dr strange thing#maybe it's my fault i fucking suck at being a nerd#<- to be fair i was forcefed Harry Potter and Star Wars as my only nerd content as a child#Harry Potter fucking sucks and i have no interest in ever revisiting it#and Star Wars is great in theory but there's so much content I'd need to consume to like get caught up#plus i struggle to watch it because it reminds me of my dad too much#i would make a great LOTR fan though. i wish i had grown up with LOTR. i need to get the books. and rewatch the movies. and everything else.#like even just watching the first movie of lotr tickled my brain so much and made me so happy#in a way that Star Wars and Harry Potter never did and never could#idk this is why i stick to smaller and newer fandoms. there's not nearly so much hollow knight content#and no one's gonna kill you for not knowing something#and no one calls you a fake fan#anyways I'm just rambling#turtlemagnum ass behavior but this is actually really fun

Yanno in this ep we saw a lot of Wrecker lifting heavy stuff and all and then by the end, when they busted out of the cave he was panting, half-leaning on Tech and talking about how he hoped the space port had food.
The thing that threw me about that is that Wrecker didn't do anything physically exhausting when he walked out of the cave, so why was he panting and leaning on Tech?
I think because of his larger size his motabolism probably works differently than most, and he needs a lot more food then a regular person would.
Throughout the show we see a lot of Wrecker asking about food or just generally being the person who eats a lot and before now I always thought it was just a cliché joke on phsycially bigger person = always talking about food, but if they actually did this for a purpose deeper than this? 10/10!!
#anyways#btw if u guys started wondering why I tag things 'anyways' through no fault of mine it kinda accidentally became my ramble tag#bc I ramble in the tags a lot and then anyways is my transition to regular tags#anyway!#star wars#the bad batch#star wars the bad batch#tbb wrecker#tbb tech#tbb#tbb s2#tbb s2 spoilers#tbb spoilers

I have mostly been restraining my Takes out of general self-consciousness and overall exhaustion, but it is very important to me that Obi-Wan has at least once said to Qui-Gon, “One day you’re going to be wrong about something, and I hope I’m there to see it,” and then he was dueling Anakin surrounded by lava and everyone was dead and he couldn’t even enjoy the moment.
(and then years later they were both Force ghosts and Anakin was key in Palpatine’s downfall and he HAD TO EAT HIS WORDS AFTER ALL THAT)
#my real hot take is that people who talk about whose fault it is that anakin fell to the dark side are ignoring the fact that palpatine#didn't even need anakin he just wanted him because he thought it would be fun#all the pieces of the puzzle were already underway the only thing anakin being his apprentice at the end did was#give him someone with a weakness that could be exploited at a crucial moment#anyway i sure have a lot of opinions for someone who barely knows the canon which is why i'm mostly keeping them to myself#but i thought this take was funny so here you are#star wars#qui-gon jinn#obi wan kenobi

updates from the land of the ahsoka show tv spot nonsense (aka i have got to stop fucking watching these bc i’m just going into these little rage spirals)
(sorry in advance, this got kinda long.)
from the master & apprentice tv spot:
first we had this from kathleen kennedy
and while i get she was probably going for the ‘rosario is a good actress and we don’t think any other actor could play ahsoka in live action’ sentiment, it just comes off as SO dismissive of ashley eckstein’s work as ahsoka.
ashley isn’t featured in this video at all, and there’s really only one mention of her doing “great work” as ahsoka in the clone wars. much more emphasis was put on filoni and his work bringing the character to life, and his journey with the character. (as a writer he should get credit for his work writing the character, but none of that writing would’ve been brought to life without ashley).
this just feels like such an insult to ashley, who recently just talked about how much backlash she got when ahsoka first came on screen. she had to deal with so much hate, and it just feels a little ick that they’re still hardly talking about her in these behind the scenes videos. (and the additional ick about rosario’s ahsoka getting so much attention and praise, and how that ties into live action being valued over animation, but that’s a separate rant).
AND THEN, there’s this nonsense from filoni:
i just. where do I even begin with how much i hate the integration of sabine into this lineage?
i’ve talked a bit about it previously, but i just don’t understand the angle of making sabine (who is a mandalorian and very proud of it!!!) into a jedi apprentice!!! and i hate this angle! i don’t see how this will help sabine grow and develop—she’s already a incredibly well-trained warrior, including lightsaber training! because KANAN TAUGHT HER!!!! will she ever be as good as anakin or ahsoka or other jedi? no. But she doesn’t need to be.
and wielding the darksaber in the first place wasn't even really about learning how to use a lightsaber for the sake of using a lightsaber, or because sabine secretly wanted to be a jedi. kanan taught her how to use it because he and fenn rau knew she would be challenged once other mandalorians saw her with it. and they were hoping that she could help unite mandalorians, but other mandalorians weren't going to respect her if she couldn't hold her own with the lightsaber.
and if this is some weird way of trying to have sabine carry on the legacy of kanan and ezra, this is a dumb way to do it. there are plenty of other ways she can honor them (the huge beautiful mural she painted on lothal, for one! protecting lothal in general! And uhhh finding ezra?? instead of filoni saying she stuck around lothal the entire war???). and also, by tying her "jedi training" to ahsoka, that's not really honoring kanan and ezra, because they were part of mace windu's jedi legacy, NOT anakin's! (well, yoda's, but you know. for the sake of that quote from filoni, anakin's).
not everything has to be about anakin's lineage! but filoni is making it that way. this jedi training isn't about sabine, it's about ahsoka. and if he's trying to say something about ahsoka suddenly being a teacher, or what her being a teacher says about her past with anakin, i highly doubt he will do it in a way that's interesting or true to the character, because for filoni, ahsoka always has to be perfect and can do no wrong. and yet, even though she refused to teach grogu because of his attachments to din, she's suddenly super okay with teaching sabine, who has way more attachments than grogu??
like if filoni REALLY wanted ahsoka to be a master so badly, jacen syndulla, an actual force sensitive child, is right there. (though, he absolutely should be taught by ezra bc shatterpoint lineage rights).
and if filoni tries pulling some bullshit about how sabine was force sensitive the entire time, that's an insult to sabine's character, and it's a HUGE insult to kanan, who absolutely would have noticed that she was force sensitive.
it just feels like a back-handed way to say that sabine being just a mandalorian isn't good enough (and god forbid we have more than one major mandalorian character in the star wars franchise who isn't din djarin), and that kanan and ezra aren't good enough, it has to be ahsoka that teaches sabine. i already don't have faith that sabine's mandalorian family will get mentioned a whole lot, if at all. and now with her training to be a jedi, it just feels like they're trying to abandon her entire culture. not everyone needs to be a jedi, and not everyone needs to be force sensitive, and not everything needs to be about ahsoka.
and again, i absolutely have nothing against ahsoka as a character. (i don't like rosario's portrayal of her, and don't even like rosario.)
but dave filoni is starting to beat the dead horse by constantly having ahsoka in new star wars media (probably unpopular opinion, but i think ahsoka should've died on malachor like she was supposed to and should never have been brought back by ezra in the WBW. but that's a separate essay).
so now, in what should have been an (animated) rebels sequel, ahsoka is the star. and the rebels characters are going to get the short end of the stick, as usual.
#besties….. we’re in danger#like the show isn’t even OUT YET#and i’m so mad in advance!!!#rebels fans stay losing fr#like i have my issues with s4 of rebels (certain things)#but like what we thought was bad about some of that stuff is about to get a million times worse#so if you really don’t want to see all the negativity i will make about which tags I’ll be using for the show#but it will probably include ‘ashowka negativity’#(bc this is not ahsoka the character’s fault. this is all filoni)#anyway :/#also I’m still trying to get better at alt descriptions so let me know if they’re ok!#sabine wren#ahsoka tano#rosario’s ahsoka#rosario dawson cw#ahsoka series#swr#dave filoni#star wars

weaponry in the locked tomb is so interesting because when you break it down it's like:
guns exist in-universe but are used by the freedom fighter terrorist organization almost exclusively
swords are (were?) commonplace enough that gideon was able to find and train with a decently well-balanced two-hander on the ninth, despite the fact that the ninth has no military force or even interplanetary traffic. gideon's sword is at least 20 years old, probably older
swords are definitely still in use within the empire, at least by cavaliers, but likely within the cohort as a whole. to my memory there are no mentions of cohort members carrying military-issue guns
even though they're trained in a variety of weapons and techniques, cavaliers (are supposed to) carry exclusively rapiers. gideon prefers her two-hander and cam carries twin shortswords, but these seem to be rare and shocking exceptions to the standard.
rapiers are used by cavaliers explicitly for the purpose of lyctorhood. they're light enough that a scrawny necromancer without swordfighting experience can pick it up and rely on their cav's training without needing to build the muscle to wield the sword effectively
because of the secretive nature of the megatheorem, and lyctorhood as a whole, most people just follow the rapier rule because it's tradition. it is what is done. harrow makes this pretty clear at the beginning of gtn
cavaliers can carry a variety of offhand weapons. it seems like the full spectrum of middle age weaponry is possible - but still, no guns. not even secretly, as with cam's dual blades. some cavs choose to carry material for their necromancers as their offhand - ortus carries a bowl of bones for harrow, and i can only assume "the powder" mentioned as harrow's choice for gideon's offhand towards the beginning of gtn is some kind of bone dust
from a doylist perspective, all of this creates a aesthetic that starts very analog and gothic and gradually grows into a more standard sci-fi space opera through the series. by ntn, we've hit most of the established genre weaponry tropes that we've come to expect from older futuristic space media like star wars and alien. blasters and guns are standard fare, and it makes sense to hold off on introducing them until the scope of the story gets broader and more interplanetary
from a watsonian perspective, it's a little more difficult to draw concrete conclusions without the context that atn will inevitably provide. but if i had to hedge a guess, i'd say that, as with most things, It's All John Gaius's Fault. when he resurrected the galaxy i'd assume that he wanted to keep the aesthetics of medieval imperialism, and given his 21st century liberalism probably didn't want guns to be part of the equation. but they were anyways - we know this because wake carries a big one - and instead of standardizing firearms within his military and for his lyctors, he clings to the aesthetics of swordplay. please correct me if i'm remembering it wrong, but to my knowledge every gun shown in the series is either directly linked to boe or implied to be sourced from them. jod dooms his own lyctors and military by refusing to update their weaponry.
all of this poses a lot of questions about atn: who will carry a gun, and why? where did the gun come from? why DON'T the lyctors just use firearms? and most importantly: will they be fighting zombies with swords???
#long post#SORRY#if this theory seems half-baked that's because it is#i see all of the stars but i struggle to form a constellation from them#the locked tomb#tlt#gtn#gideon the ninth#htn#harrow the ninth#ntn#nona the ninth#alecto the ninth#atn#tlt spoilers#alecto theories#alectopause#tlt meta#nat og
