Thank god we’ve got Yoshiki here, modern philosopher of our time, to drop this wisdom upon us. Surely this grand conclusion, which required a whole flashback to come to, will have an impact on how Yoshiki views death going forward- oh wait, lol what am I saying? Of course it’s not!

my iphone suddenly turned black last night and every place i look say to try the exact same thing which seems to have helped 99.99% of the people that had this happen to them but my lovely phone remains a useless black brick and i'm probably going to lose every single photo i took on this trip and everything from eras and i want to scream into a void

alright, i finished Star Wars: Thrawn: Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, and i have Thoughts. aside from the copious amount of colons in the title, it was… fine. it is the most Zahn of all the thrawn novels, and all my old criticisms of the thrawn novels are applicable here, too: no character development; same-old space mystery plot that ends in a naval battle with one or two creative maneuvers; women with the strangest character motivations you have EVER seen; etcetera.
i talk (read: rant) about this way too often, but i truly do feel that thrawn novels would benefit by letting him be wrong more often. he’s a military genius, but he sucks ar politics and people — so put him in situations that force him to engage with politics and people!!! he would be so much more interesting if we saw thrawn trying to apply his military know how to, say, a grounded chiss-regency era style plot. give me a thrawn wounded by a reckless battle maneuver and now stuck on mandatory medical leave somewhere and, OOPS WHAT’S THAT? ALL HIS POLITICAL ENEMIES FINALLY HAVE HIM IN THEIR TERRITORY AND STAGE A POLITICAL ASSAULT ON HIM? and now thrawn, mr genius mcsmarterson, has to lean on all those friends and allies he’s made to survive a political maelstrom. ar’alani, thalias, and samakro and their families are roped into keeping his stupid ass afloat and helping him play the political game, or at least shield him as much as they can from his own ineptitude. and at the same time thrawn is trying to sniff out enemy subversives influencing chiss society and planning a naval attack on the chiss fleet, and he has to juggle all of these problems while while also trying to remember which tiny fork to eat his salad with? and if he doesn’t pick the right fork the visiting syndicure will make him harikari on the SPOT???
now that would be a fun thrawn novel. hot damn.
#tldr these novels have the sherlock problem without the sherlock solution#when a character is that smart and ahead of the game they’re kind of awful/troublesome as a main pov character#so you need outsiders to look in on them#but what sherlock has that thrawn doesn’t is more moments that highlight the dynamic and emotions between sherlock and the people in his#life; and Sherlock’s emotional desires and interests are given more room to be poked at#giving a character a huge weakness and then rarely sticking them in situations where they must directly engage that weakness… that sucks!#walkie talkie.#lio liveblogs.#lio liveblogs: thrawn ascendancy series.

So anyways my plan for the next two months is to kickass at work while I get another job and then leave their asses.
#I'm so mad about this#I've been at this company for 6 years and for the most part everyone I've worked with has been great#Easy to get along with. Smart. Caring.#I've had some not so great bosses and every once in a while I've encountered problem people#But repeatedly one person (not in my vertical but a key person in my org)#Has repeatedly made me feel like shit. Even if she claims to mean well or whatever#I absolutely never feel like we're ok the same team. It always feels like it's her team or death#Which is not an environment I thrive in#And then her boss (who is also my bosses boss) either feeds into that or exacerbates it#I wish I had had the words during our engagement survey because I'm not the only one who feels this way#So many people go into a meeting with her expecting to talk about one thing and instead she asks for something else entirely#It consistently feels like she has no trust in her team and she does not want to foster a culture of 'we're in the same team'#She is fostering a culture of 'im the boss so I'll dictate exactly what I want and I am free to change it at any time'#So. Anyways. If you know of companies hiring in their product or portfolio space hit me up.#I spent 10 hours trying not to cry at work today and then had three separate little cries#Going to going with my boss a little about taking a week off soon#He's going to be alarmed and concerned but like. He should be.#(my boss is generally great my only complaint is that he hasn't figure out how to work with his boss yet so that's compounding my issues.#But that is not all on him. And he has never once made me feel like we're not on the same team)#Blah blah ok. my fic idea is finally working!! i have my opener. my tav no longer annoys me as a perspective character (gave him just enough insight to let the reader know what is really happening between him and astarion, while still having him catastrophically fail to understand how traumatized the both of them are). the opening scene's first draft is embarassingly rough and i love it, it was fun to finally get it all down!! i will edit later i am in the plotting zone.

I have a strange relationship with James T. Kirk where I utterly adore him but when I meet someone else who feels similarly I'm suspicious of them.
Like, are you fond of this man because he's a drama king who's totally ride or die for Spock, McCoy, and his crew? Or are your thoughts more along the lines of "Kirk is brilliant and the best captain and can do no wrong"?
#star trek#star trek tos#listen I love kirk and he IS smart#and he IS good at his job in many ways#but in some ways he isn't#sometimes he prioritizes his friends more than the rest of his crew#sometimes he makes choices out of passion that aren't in his crew's best interest#sometimes when the going gets tough he snaps at his friends and crew to demand solutions when he himself has no answers#sometimes he takes his own beliefs and applies them to alien cultures when he doesn't have the right to#sometimes he's snarky towards authority figures#all of these things make him an interesting character#but they also make him imperfect#and so I get uncomfortable with the narrative I encounter sometimes#that kirk is an oh-so-perfect strategist and diplomat and captain#(often with the implication being that he's better than the other captains in later star trek)#when... no#they're all different and they're all flawed#kirk isn't perfect just because he's first

I've been following along with the developments on the new atlus game getting cracked and it seems like they've got it working overnight using the demo and an altered .exe that lets you just kinda play the full game xD
I've not tested it myself but the files are available to download with a few people saying they've gotten through the last softlock from yesterdays improvement and one person claiming they've finished the game
#Like pretty much all atlus games metaphor has denuvo on the full game#They didn't put it on the demo though and the smart people figured out a way to bypass the end of the demo#There was a few soft locks over the last few days#Like not being able to travel on the map after a few days when the demo normally ends#Or not being able to do side quests#But this current solution seems to get around all of that
