Audrey Hepburn: an Icon for the Ages
youtube
It's easy to admire Audrey Hepburn's grace and beauty but her bravery during World War II isn't praised or talked about enough. She actively supported the Dutch Resistance even though both of her parents were Nazi sympathizers. (Her mother's allegiance eventually changed after Audrey's uncle was taken and executed by the regime, but there was a time when she kept a framed photo of herself at Hitler's Munich headquarters.) There's one account where Audrey, as a 15-year-old, delivered a message to help an Allied fighter pilot whose plane had been shot down. She also distributed the Resistance newspaper on bicycle, the paper half the size of a napkin hidden in her socks. More often, she participated in "black evenings", secret gatherings with blacked-out windows to raise funds in support of those sheltering Jews. During these events, she performed ballet to no applauseā€¦ for everyone's safety. Her family also temporarily sheltered a British paratrooper in their home during the Battle of Arnhem.
After the war, a neighbor who worked at a publishing company let her read a manuscript. It was written by a girl her age; who shared her love for dance, books, and nature; and was also in the Netherlands when the war broke out. This was Anne Frank's diary. Years later, she would be offered the movie role of the young Jewish girl by Anne's own father and publisher, Otto Frank. Even though she was double Anne's age by then, she was still his and the director's first choice. Afraid to relive the horrors of war and how it might destroy her, she turned the offer down.
Audrey could have been a prima ballerina. She qualified for a scholarship in a leading British dance company but the effects of wartime malnourishment pushed her towards acting and modeling instead. Her waif-like figure, so perfect in those Givenchy dresses, was actually a result of starvation. No longer so enviable in that light.
The Secret People (the movie this clip is taken from) was a flop, but it was her first major acting role and led to her getting the part in Roman Holiday. More importantly, it let her showcase the one thing she loved most: dance.

everybodys gotta get back into the practice of using pseudonyms online... i remember the time of screen names where u never ever told anyone ur real name and that was just understood as basic internet safety. plus having a screen name is fun because sometimes it sticks so well that it becomes part of ur identity that u can use in whatever facet of ur life you choose. it rocks to pick your own name

Bruce keeping a tighter and tighter lid on his identity around the Justice League because with each new person to reveal their identity he realizes that he has fucked far too high a percentage of his co workers as Bruce Wayne and he has to take this secret to his grave

Love when the Justice League thinks Batman is a cryptid. This believe is only further enhanced by the face his sidekick, Robin, is clearly a shapeshifter, what with changing their height, hair style, skin tone, and even gender.
Batman clearly thinks that by having Robin look different every couple of years, it will show that they aren't cryptids like it would if Robin didn't age.
But the Justice League is too smart for that. They figured it out! But they are good friends (colleagues) and won't spill Batman's secret, but they will drop hints to him that they know, to show that they are smarter than he gives them credit for (they aren't.)
-
When the batkids learn that the league thinks this, they start periodically going to the Watchtower with Bruce, taking turns dressed up as Robin.
The League is surprised as Robin seems to prefer taking the form of a child, perhaps to have villains underestimate them? But they just assume Robin is trying out something new.
The batkids definitely tell eachother about what was said/happened as to further sell the act of Robin being a shapeshifter, because clearly it has to be the same person, Robin knows what happened, so it couldn't of been someone else dressed as Robin.

Funny how all of my top posts are Flowey-related. People must sense that I love the goober.
Fun fact: Papyrus tucks Flowey back into his little makeshift bed up in his room after the panel. Don't ask me how I came up with this, I just did.

we were sitting on the floor and i was cutting out tiny pictures to make a collage for a friend's birthday. you were on your phone and you laughed about something, and i was still in love with you then, so i asked what had you giggling.
"sorry. i was just..." you took a moment and went back to texting. "i was telling someone about how you're afraid of the dark."
i'm afraid of the dark because something bad happened. "oh." i felt a little slinky of shame crawl down my throat.
you glanced up, and maybe it showed on my face, because you rolled your eyes and held the phone to the side casually so i could see the group chat. "what? was it a secret?"
i looked down to the scissors in my hand. "i just..." no, it's not a secret. it just felt like something private, something serious. saying why would you tell someone that just feels like an accusation. it's unfair. i honestly am not even ashamed of it, it's just a fact about my person that i don't usually share.
what a strange experience. is this a human thing or a generational thing? for our grandparents: did they need to worry about how quickly someone can just... share your personal information? again, i didn't even really have a true objection. what could i say? i want any person in my life to feel they can be honest with their friends. it's not like i said don't tell anyone this.
i cut out another letter to complete the rainbow happy birthday, started hunting for the exclamation mark. i heard you sigh dramatically.
"don't make a big deal about this," you said.
this entire conversation was a pattern for us, and this was when we got to my least favorite part of the pattern. i would get my feelings hurt in some oblique not-technically-terrible way, and then it would be making a big deal about something. you'd get frustrated for me for being soft, but i was born soft. you knew i was soft when you pierced me. it's one of the things that made controlling me so easy.
"i'm not," i felt my voice crack. the question came without my wanting. "why are you guys talking about me?" and why are you saying that thing? why not like - i'm telling them how you're generous and kind and pretty.
you let out this low, tragic groan. "oh my god." you tossed the phone away from your body. "there, see? i just won't talk to them if you don't like it."
the rest of the hour went the way it always went, between us: i said i don't actually mind if you talk to your friends but -, you found a way to call my minor expression of discomfort "being dramatic." you got upset that i had been offended. i ended up apologizing, even though i hadn't actually done anything.
afterwards, you picked up the phone again. after texting for a little bit, you snorted. "okay," you said, "but it is kind of funny you're afraid of the dark. i mean, when you think about it."

Enough with Lois being flattered and seduced by Bruce Wayne. I want Clark blushing like a school girl every time Bruce gets within ten feet, and Lois wants to know why.
So of course she sleeps with him. Mostly to prove to Clark that Wayne isnā€™t all that and a bag of snacks. A little bit because hey, Wayne isnā€™t exactly horrible to look at, even if her vibrator has more sentience.
And then, in the middle of trying to prove to Clark that thereā€™s absolutely nothing to get flustered about, Wayne rocks her fucking world. Not once, not twice, not a fluke ā€” all weekend. In between rounds she spots him doing the New York Times crossword in pen and decides itā€™s a hallucination.
She limps (happily) back to the office on Monday and when Clark brings up Bruce Wayne again, she keeps her mouth shut.

Everyone talks about the joys of someone else being super invested in your OCs and while this undoubtedly feels absolutely awesome, I think there's also something to be said about the joy of being invested in someone else's OCs too. There's just vibes you get out of some people's casts of characters that you can't get anywhere else with their own unique flavor from that person, and they're just sitting there in relative obscurity spawned completely out of someone's mind with no media involvement or anything. Special kind of feeling

It's funny how everyone portrays Silver as always being polite towards Lilia all the time, but he can also be a little shit at time. Canonically, he often calls Lilia "old man" and is the most likely to call out his cooking. (He just does it in a low tone. But we all know Lilia hears.)
This scene from the comic anthology basically sums it up.
Tumblr media
(Silver just brought up the bad cooking. There was nothing leading up to it, he wanted to say it.)
To sum up, Silver loves and respects his father, but he's not afraid to take verbal swings at him, so let's try to remember that!
Edit: I have been informed that though the anthology has Yana listed as an author it may not be canon. So take this interaction with a grain of salt.
