No Nightingales and The Revolt of the Angels
Following seeing this post the other day regarding the existence of a book called "No Nightingales" about a pair of ghosts living in a house at Berkeley Square, as well as a revelation in the reblogs which says Neil Gaiman is a fan of the authors, I had to get myself a copy.
Unfortunately (no doubt due to a number of people having the same reaction!) there are no longer any copies on ebay, but I wanted to share these pictures of mine. It's clearly ex library, it has beautiful endpapers and I love it without even having started to read it!
I will make another post once I have read it regarding any plot points which may have significance for S3 😁
If you also want to read it I believe there are online library copies, and I think someone may have even posted scanned pages into one of the reblogs on the post I've linked above.
EDIT: @fuckyeahgoodomens just shared a link to read this book here

Also this one, which I posted about the other day. No direct impact upon GO that I know of, other than being about the Angelic war between Heaven and Hell. The William Blake painting on the cover of this edition is a bonus, its The Angel of Revelation.
Again, I'll make another post when I've finished it if there is anything of significance!
20 pages in, and I can tell you it also involves a library, and a librarian who hates people borrowing books. Sounds familiar...

Anatole France said that "A tale without love is like a stew without salt" and, while I like his work, to that I say: no.

So like, Maurice d'Esparvieu is — or in any case was — definitely gay for his former guardian angel right? I mean, come on, can you really expect me to think otherwise when he's saying stuff like:
"Arcade, do you still love me?"
"... if only you love me, come back to me, stay with me. I cannot do without you."
"... I cannot stifle the tenderness I feel for you, and your candour forces me to love you."
"I will be your guardian angel,— I will not leave you." (Maurice says this)
Gayest thing I've ever read.

Books I need to read: -The Revolt of the Angels -Alice's Adventures in Wonderland -Mathilda -Dracula -The Diary of a Young Girl -All Harry Potter books -Lots of Edgar Allan Poe (I was reading The Black Cat once but didn't finish it) -The Picture Of Dorian Gray -Lots of Oscar Wilde -Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Probably lots more but these are the ones I remember from the top of my head and that I haven't fully read, because there's other books I do want to reread.

Reading the Justice League comic crossover and I'm putting in a formal complaint about the amount of romance nonsense going on. Everyone's so into each other with barely a "hello" and it's so unnatural, devoid of chemistry. I feel like I'm reading baby's first canon x oc fic

Revolt of the Angels, Good Omens and memory
I've made a couple of posts (here and here) mentioning the book The Revolt of the Angels, and now I've actually read the thing there's a passage I wanted to share.
Though there are all the obvious commonalities you might expect with a book that deals with similar subject matter (Heaven and Hell, good angels and fallen ones, faith, God, philosophy and humanity), and though the main Angelic protagonist, Arcade, put me in mind both of Aziraphale - loves books, is clueless about humans in many ways, enjoys food and drink, - and Crowley, - is fallen, fell because of his thirst for knowledge (asking questions) calls himself an infernal being of hate and fury which is clearly untrue, and strikes me as similar to Crowley calling himself "unforgivable" - the passage that leapt out at me was this one:

So, similarly to Good Omens, in Revolt... Angels cannot actually die, but they can be discorporated, and crucially discorporation causes loss of memory, which may never be fully regained.
Could it be that this is what happened to Crowley? Instead of his memory deliberately being wiped, could he have "died" during the war with Heaven and failed to recover his full memory, hence why he remembers some things but not others?
If this is the case (and please note I have no basis whatsoever for assuming this is how it works in the GO-verse) it could also explain why Aziraphale's memory also appears to have been compromised, since he was discorporated in S1 (though I don't have the links to hand I've read a number of metas regarding Aziraphale being an unreliable narrator re the past events we see in the minisodes).

Revolt of the angels
The revolt of the angels starts a war
That sweeps through lands that never fought before.
It sets on fire everyone’s soul
Like coal in a train’s engine with one goal;
To run over everyone in its track
And turn all its enemy into a snack
That satiates the hunger of the poor
And puts in place the people with delusions of grandeur.
Angels are the last to revolt as they know violence can only be their last resort.
This poem was inspired by a writing prompt posted by @betweenthetimeandsound

"... war, which trained the courage and founded the cities of barbarous and ignorant men, brings to the victor himself but ruin and misery, and is nothing but a horrible and stupid crime when nations are united together by common bonds of art, science, and trade."

like yea idk i think if id spent my whole life believing in god per the teachings of christianity, and then right as i'm about to bang a married woman for the umpteenth time, a naked man materializes in my room, undoubtedly proves that he's my guardian angel (because he had been watching me the whole time) BUT he has denounced god and is planning a revolt, and is therefore relieving himself of the duty of being my guardian angel, i don't think it'd be weird to feel some type of way about it. but also, if i'd been having an affair with a guy for a while, and then one day, a naked man claiming to be his guardian angel spawns in saying that he had been watching the whole time (therefore implying that likely multiple guardian angels including my own had been watching me the whole time) i'd probably be reluctant to ever have sex again. all i'm saying is i see both sides of the issue, and if anyone needs a extramarital affairs counselor, i think i'd be pretty good at it.

what are your thoughts on fallen angels????
I haven’t looked into any of the specific fallen angels in the myths so idk their motivations and stuff. In some media I’ve seen (thinking of a specific anime) they portray fallen angels as former angels that want to regain god’s favor. That sounds like bootlicking to me. Not a fan of that.
I care more about the ideas these characters represent than the characters themselves. Rebelling against god is cool.
