alex from the siltcord suggested supposed relics of the promised bride being passed around the parish and i kinda latched onto the idea !! couple notes + timelapse below the cut :]
this is HEAVILY inspired by the skull of mary magdalene, which is mounted in a statue
the dress is inspired by celtic dress
the patterns on the armbands are the same as the patterns on roemont's robes, since they're a basic traditional pattern in the parish
her cape clasp has a tessalated fishhook pattern
one of her eyes is growing out on a stalk :]
the way her body is portrayed as changing is very much the same as how i draw stanton's body changing
i really like the timelapse because you get to watch my thought process in her transformation and it kinda looks like she's transforming in real time :D

not the christ parallels... faulkner built his own crown of thorns and hammered the nails into his own cross and now he's walking to the place where they'll string him up and pray to him through his pleas for it all to end. they'll remain fervent in their faith in him, in his story, and turn his agony into a symbol of worshipful adoration. he will never be just a man again.

So about the funny ‘translate the silt verses to Dutch post’
I’m thinking about how the Netherlands is literally what would happen if the trawler man got legalised in the long term. Because our country’s entire thing is being control freaks over water. We are technically in danger of flooding all the time but we don’t because of how much thought goes into our dams. We restrict the water, build on top of it. In every sense that’s such a unnatural concept. A country literally under sea level keeping itself dry by its own ingenuity.
If the Netherlands existed in the silt verses universe, how many sacrifices would go just to keep the water from not drowning all of us. Do you think we’d have sacrificed people to create Flevoland, so we have the power to build land on sea.
And like specifically Frisian’s just- work so wel with the whole silt verses fibe. ‘the name is derived from the verb fresare in Vulgar Latin, meaning 'milling, cutting, grooving, crushing, removing shells'; this name may have been given to the Frisii because they 'cut the land': digging ditches and dykes to irrigate the wet marshlands they lived at.’ (According to Wikipedia.) Like it is most definitely unintentional but I always see my own culture back in the silt verses. With the way so much of ours has been defined by our relation to water.
Uh conclusion I think Faulkner would hate the Dutch lol.

Love how in the transcript it's even MORE clear that Carpenter is just prepared to start talking shit with Paige and Hayward immediately upon laying eyes on them. 'Oh yes! People I know and maybe kind of even like! Time to take them down a fucking peg >:) '

this episode was so fun. roemont fails at betraying and killing faulkner but with the help of greve faulkner is successful at betraying and killing roemont but then greve betrays faulkner, blaming him for killing roemont. carpenter and hayward play i-spy.

Hey, folks,
Just an update that the next Silt Verses episode will be coming in a couple of days late, for what are slightly comical dog-ate-my-homework reasons (Jon burnt his hand on an oven dish and hasn't been able to complete sound design on the last couple of scenes through his dressing! He's absolutely fine otherwise.)
We'll release the early tier this coming Wednesday and the full public episode on Thursday 20th June. (We'll wait and see if that'll have a knock-on effect on Chapter 44's timings, but hopefully not.)
To keep you tided over, we've also dropped a publicly available spoiler-light 13-minute section from early on in the episode on Patreon, featuring High Katabasian Greve and Press Secretary Carson as they oversee the public legalisation of the Parish of Tide and Flesh, and Carpenter, Hayward, Shrue and Cross as they prepare to hijack the GGR radio broadcast.
Here's what you can expect from the episode, which should come in at around 80 minutes total.
Glottage and its commercial faiths celebrate a great military victory with a great parade. Shrue, Hayward and Carpenter attempt to get the message of the Woundtree out to the people of the Peninsula. Faulkner finds himself at the mercy of his own fanatical audience. Everything comes to a head.

the tsv crew are generally just really really good at coming up with names for people, places and things that subtly convey the ideas and themes they're intended to evoke, but "the parish of tide and flesh" stands out to me specifically because of the body horror emphasis that tacking "and flesh" onto the words used to represent the core beliefs and values of the group carries. the implication that flesh is as malleable and changeable as the tides; that one should aspire to be reshaped in their image. that the price of admission and the reward are one and the same - flesh. the skin off your back or another's. the mouth devouring and the mouth returning, chewed-up and god-bitten and something entirely new in all its horrible glory.

"He extends a sodden hand. One of his smiles is kindly" I'm obsessed with Mason saying this. Especially with all his subterfuge and manipulation, the way he sounds so pleasant and calm even when he's daring you to attack him or actively threatening someone's life...
And then Mason telling the story of the promised bride, especially in the context of the stories he tells to Carpenter and the circumstances of her (re)joining the Parish of Tide and Flesh. You'll be made a vessel no matter what. Why not choose how that vessel is used. Exert the only real control you have in the situation.
For her, all those years later, echoing that story in a desperate plea
"I'm an empty fucking vessel, but I can still be useful"
She had nowhere else to go. She was 18 and she chose the thing that would eat her, just like Vaughn did. Mason made her earn her keep and it didn't just swallow her, it ate her alive from the inside first.

I've been thinking about faulkners death again, and how it mirrors the very first scene of the silt verses. a man, drowned. not hallowed, not transformed, just a corpse floating in the water. both pulled down into the current by the parish of tide and flesh.
