college!peter pt. 1

he would, but he would wait. a year into the relationship, possibly. you would start to get annoyed when he would bail on study nights, leave in the middle of the nights, even at dinner.

you ordered take out and dessert for your one year, setting it up nicely on your little coffee table, as well as a nice ring and pictures of you and peter in frames on the table.

the night passed, the candles burned low and the dinner got cold. you shoved the leftovers in the fridge rather aggressively, annoyed. you showered your hair and makeup away, letting a few tears slip as you thought about how hurt you were.

you got changed into your pajamas and before you could slide into bed, there was a knock on your door. it was 11:42pm, and you could only think of one person who would knock that late.

you opened the door and peter pushed himself in, apologizing over and over again. "yn, i am so.. so sorry that i missed our one year, well not really, i have 18 minutes-"

"peter!" you exclaim and close the door, crossing your arms and tearing up. "where were you?" your throat was scratchy, and you tried to hold your hurt in.

"i.. i was.. getting your present" his lie made your stomach drop. his eyes locked with yours, and it was like the first time again.

"were you with someone else?" you asked and his eyes widened, rushing over to you and holding your biceps.

"no no no, god no, babe. i love you too much to do that to you"

"but clearly not enough to show up to our anniversary dinner" you backed away from his and peter closed his eyes, taking a long breath. "peter?"

"i haven't told anyone this in a very long time, mainly because i'm scared of what happened the last time" peter turned around and took off his blazer, sliding off his shirt. "can you.. turn around?" you roll your eyes and turn, hearing shuffling and the zipper of his backpack. "o..okay. turn around"

you turn around slowly, and there he was. your boyfriend, in a spider-man costume. "you.. cosplay as spiderman?"

"no, oh jesus" he breathes and scoops you up, taking you out the window.

"peter? what are you-" you cut off your sentence with a scream as you and peter fall off the building, only for peter to shoot something out of a machine from his wrists. you gripped onto him for dear life, legs around his waist as he swung through the cool spring night.

peter landed on top of a building and set you down, and you sat down with peter squatting next to you with his mask in his hand. "are you okay? please say something"

"y-you! you're spider-man!" you exclaim and stand up, peter following. "it all makes sense now! you weren't cheating, you were saving people! you didn't ditch our plans for someone better, you ditched our plans for someone in need of help! god i feel like an asshole" you ran your hands through your hair and peter held your elbows.

"no, babe, honestly i would think the same thing. i know it was weird, how often i bailed, but every time i was finished with fighting crime or whatever, i would feel so guilty for ditching you, and coming home to see you in bed" peter's hand held your cheek and you lean into it.

"so tonight, you were fighting crime?" you ask, hands rubbing up his chest and tracing the black spider, peter smiling as his hands held your waist.

"something like that. what time is it?" you checked your phone, 11:58pm. "i still got 2 minutes" peter smiled and kissed you passionately, curving his body into yours. your arms wrapped around his neck, picking your leg up as his hand pushed down to hold under your knee.

"i love you peter. happy one year" you whisper and he pecks your lips again as you both stood up.

"happy one year to my favorite girl" he whispered, kissing you one last time before you both walked to the edge of the building.

"so how long have you been spider-man?" you ask, and peter's face was emotionless. you shouldn't have asked. "let's get home. i'll heat up dinner and you can get clean, hm?" you peck his cheek and he slides his mask on. he picks you up and you koala hold him again, kissing his mask before you two swung back to your apartment.

you still couldn't believe your boyfriend was a superhero, your favorite superhero. you heated up dinner and peter took a long hot shower, and you two ate in bed telling stupid stories, mainly peter about his best and worst crime fighting stories.

peter knew he was leaving out his favorite fighting stories, and his worst ones. losing tony, may, his friends, all of it. he didn't want to open those wounds again, especially since they had slowly started to heal. thanks to you.

This man is sneaky.

He doesn't have much time to take too many pictures if you, but believe me when I say that at least 50% of the pictures were taken without you noticing he ever did before he showed them to you.

You think he would have only aesthetic pictures of you, right? Well, there are, but there is also like, 2 pictures in a row of you and his brothers in face mask chilling in the common room's floor while playing cards, which is followed right after to a picture of you drooling on something before he woke you up.

Sometimes he asks for you to "look this way" before taking a pic.

If you ask why he will simply reply that you looked too stunning to not keep it forever as a memory in the form of a picture.

If he asks for a selfie, he will most likely let you sit on his lap, his cheek touching your head slightly as he leans onto you. The result image will have him looking extremelly soft.

Mammon

This dork has so many different vibes of pictures he takes of you.

Some of them is of your concentrated face as you try to solve a puzzle in a mobile game, others of you smiling and laughing heartedly, others of you doing silly stuff for him, such as trying to balance a spoon on your nose or doing the duck mouth with chips.

Of course, there are a few selfies with you, they can be silly with you guys using some cursed filter or they can be slightly more romantic with him giving you a surprise kiss.

It ends with him accidentally taking many pictures at once, and when you look at them, you can watch the amazing progression of him going red and his phone slipping out of his grip in the final picture.

A pic of you raging at a game here, one of you staring at Henry there, a selfie of both of you in cosplay doing a pose every once in a while.

There is a picture of you slipping on the last step downstairs, one of you drooling on something too, some of you giving his brothers a very done stare.

The rarest of them all are the normal selfies of both of you. When he doesn't have a cosplay on he feels extremelly self conscious. The result pic will be adorable, his face may be a little stiff and his cheeks a bit too red for his own comfort, but the giddy shine in his eyes says a lot more about what he is feeling than he ever could without stuttering

Of course, he has pictures of you playing with cats. Honestly there is probably one of those for every 5 other type of pictures he takes of you.

In which one of those types will be different levels of you drooling on something once again, sneezing, scrunching your face after eating something really sour, and, of course, the many expressions you make while reading a book he has already read as he tries to deduct which part you were exactly at by using only said expressions as reference.

The selfies of the both of you definetelly has kitty filters every once in a while, but many of them are actually just with this wrath demon being cute, specially when he lets you plop your chin on the top of his head while hugging him from behind, the result pic has him looking so smiley.

Where does he get so many memory space on his D.D.D. and where can I get it..?

Selfies of both of you are everywhere.

Pouting, with animal filters, kissy faces, squishing your cheeks together, simply staring at each other, sharing food, kisses, and a lot more other types of pictures.

Along with those selfies, he will also have some pictures of you alone. Sometimes he will tell you to look over in his direction before asking you to "smile~!"

Which has most likelly lead to many pictures of you doing everything else with your facial muscles except smiling. But it always brings one to his face instead, so it's hard to not give in and smile anyways in the end.

On a previous headcanon of mine I have said Beel takes pictures of you with his D.D.D. whenever he finds you attractive.

So far so good right? Only the term 'attractive' to him is very broad.

So his gallery has both aesthetic pictures of you (and some selfies with him) such as after his games, on gym clothes and with cerberus, and some cursed pictures such as of you scarfing down a whole baguette into your mouth, having an insane bed hair and of course, drooling on something.

His home screen is a selfie with both of you squishing each other's face with your hands.

The selfies with him are, suprisingly, the most normal. Surprise kisses, laying heads on each other's shoulders, and of him laying on you. In which both of you got double chin on.

Batboys x Cosplayer!reader (preference)

Requested by the great @middevil465​: Batboys dating a cosplayer,but downside is that they have to put up with their sewing at 2am

Dick: 

Okay so this boy will be your biggest fanboy

ESPECIALLY if you cosplay him as Nightwing

(Not to be kinky on main, but depending on how..uhm... showing... the costume is he might get a bit frisky if ya know what I mean)

He wants to help as much as possible

You have to finish sewing that cape, but your wig isn’t styled yet? Don’t worry, Dick has enough expirence from his long hair phase to take care of that for you!

You want to cosplay a certain hero (or villain), but can’t fid that specific item that would make the cosplay perfect (maybe a weapon, a mask, etc.)? Dick might or might not steal borrow said item from the original hero for you (of course he gives it back after you had a photoshoot or something similar and he always feels a bit bad for the hero (not for the villains tho))

Now to the “downsides”

Dick, unlike some of his siblings, actually rather enjoys sleep

“I need my beauty sleep, all this perfection doesn’t come from nothing”

And he is honestly torn

He loves and supports you so so so much and he understands that you can be your most productive around the nighttimes, but he just came back from like two to three hours of patrol after a whole day of working at the police station and he honestly just want to sleeeeeeeeeeeep

So he finds a comprimise and fucking sound isolates the room your sewing in

It’s a win-win if we think about it and you probably would go as far as to just completely take over the room to make it your own little cosplay studio 

Everyone sleeps is happy 

Jason:

Jason is a whole ass hurricane 

Don’t misunderstand me, he loves your hobby and he thinks it’s cool, but how excited he is depends on who exactly you cosplay

Him? Amazing, showstopping, great, breathtaking, nothing more amazing ever happened in this triste gray world before that

Robin (also slightly depending on which incarnation)? Cute, want to cuddle, 9/10 would do again

Batman? “That looks nice babe, you can take it off now” (Please don’t wear a more feminine toned (or just in general reaveling if you’re not female) batman cosplay. Jason is not ready for that amount of daddy issues) 

Someone like Harley, Ivy, Selina? Hell, even penguine or Riddler? He digs it for some reason and he might even show the respective rouge a picture of the cosplay (if he knows that it’s not possible to identify you).

They all love it, possible have a little fanclub

You cosplay as any other hero? Depending on how much of a little fangirl Jason is he will be really exsited and happy with you

Now, if you, for some unknown reason like losing your brain, because quite honestly that’s what it would take for me, decide to cosplay the Joker...

Welp, you’re single now... Sorry not sorry, but Jason is not okay with that

But that’s just a real extreme so let’s get away from that again, shall we?

Jason is used to being kept awake at night, be it from his thoughts or his nightmares (Housten, we’re sinking to deep)

So when he comes home from patrol around 2/3 a.m. and finds you sitting in the living room or the bedroom on your sewing machine (a gift from Bruce so state of the art technology and relativly silent, BUT NOT SILENT ENOUGH) 

He just sighs

He might just sit down beside you and watch or chat a bit or, if he feels a bit more touchy, stand beside you and braide your hair 

When you’re finished he’ll pick you up and cuddle with you in bed, trapping you effectivly for the next 8 to 10 hours

Tim: 

Did someone say couple cosplay? Because Yes. Yes you do

It isn’t that Tim ever really thought of doing cosplay or plans to use his rare free time to do it, but as soon as seing you cosplay literally anyone, he’s sold

He is a gigantic fanboy, has you cosplaying him (not Red Robin, just Tim) as his lock screen and you cosplaying Red Robin as his home screen

He’s not sure what it is, but one day he’s just sitting at his computer doing Wayne Inc. stuff when you send him a picture of you cosplaying someone and just has a metaphorical lightbulb over his head

He sneakily finds out who you will cosplay next and luckily for him it’s Zelda 

He puts everything in order and the day you want to test the cosplay out, see if everything goes together and you can pull it off, a wild Link appears

He did one hell of a job for his first cosplay (he might have had Wayne Inc. designers for the upcoming clothing line do it, but who cares amiright?) 

After that it’s kind of a tradition that once in a while the two of you pull off a couple cosplay and it’s the cutest thing ever

The highlight was when you cosplayed Batman and Catwoman on a (private) halloween party, just with the catch that you had it gender bend so Catman and Batwoman (not the Batwoman-Batwoman, but y’know what I mean), not breaking the character to the amusement of everyone present (excpet maybe Bruce who acts annoyed, but kinda thinks it’s funny)

So now to the nights

contrary to popular belief I do think Tim sleeps more than an hour or two at times

Maybe not in a healthy rythm or with any logic behind it, but he does 

Mostly

Just not nights for the most part, it’s mostly in the afternoon after a few hours at Wayne Inc, or the homeoffice or college (depending on which Tim!state we’re thinking off) and before Patrol

so when he comes home to find you sewing he’s actually rather happy

He won’t let you go to bed after you’re finished until you’re really tired or if you have something important the next day

You will watch a movie or do something stupid or even go out and see what Gotham city can give you around 3 a.m. (of course with a hidden weapon on tim’s part and him not letting you out of sight) 

Those nights are his favorite

Damian: 

Damian, like so many things, doesn’t quite understand

What’s the appeal of dressing yourself like someone you’re not?

Why do you wear fake hair?

He also doesn’t seem to see any connection between him dressing up every DAMN NIGHT 

It’s two completely different situations for him

It’s not like he does anything against that hobby of yours, but at least at the beginning he just keeps out of it 

That most likely will change if you ever decide to cosplay him (as Robin) 

If he comes to visit you after school at your place and he walks into your room (given your parents opened the front door for you) seeing you in a surprisingly good replica of his costume?

Bby boy is sold

The better the replica looks the quicker he is to fuzz over it

After that he kinda sees the point behind it (or not, but he supports it now and wants you to have even better, more detailed, costumes)

He’ll get you so much stuff

You want to cosplay someone, but the only wig you have that fits is a bit too long?

Well hillerihoo, you got a new one that fits perfectly and is almost life-like now

Don’t ever mention that you don’t feel comfortable with him spending so much money for you, because he won’t stop

He’ll find his ways to spoil you, believe me

If you’re Damian’s GF, you’re most likely bound to be good friends with Jon

So it’s only a question of time until he asks you to cosplay him

If you do he’ll be excited like a puppy you just gave a treat while Damian will pout

A lot

And I mean A LOT

You’ll either have to suffer through a few days of pouty Damian or you make an even better Cosplay of him (as Robin) or Batman (both works for him since he sees himself as the future Batman already)

That’ll make him happy again

Now to the night-part

Okay so let’s assume we’re talking about Teen!Damian (obviously also Teen!reader!!!) 

You two won’t be living together so that won’t be a problem and since you’re living with y’alls parents and I will assume they won’t be happy about you sewing at 2 a.m.

Also, Damian will offer to have people make the costumes for you, but he will let that go if you tell him that making the costumes is a big part about all that, the part that makes it so amazing

IF we’re talking about grown up!Damian and Reader and the two of you live together, it’ll be a lot similair to Dick (in as he get’s you your own little cosplay studio) so that he won’t be kept awake by it

but somedays he’s more like Jason and will stay up with you and to keep you company during these creative sessions

Iron Spider from MCU : alejandrojoewono // photo : rosejarmon

I've always been a HUGE fan of Spider-Man and have enjoyed his many iterations in the comics or on the screen. Spider-Man has an amazing cosplay community but sometimes it's difficult to standout. My cousin, Ruby whom got me into cosplay always told me that if I wanted to standout, I have to do something that no one really sees. The minute that I saw the Iron Spider suit in Avenger: Infinity War decked out with all the lights and even his mechanical arms I knew this was THE cosplay I can do to stand out!

In a sense, It was just being in the right place at the right time. My light up faceshell and lenses were by a creator by the name of Cavin Lam (@cavin_creations) and he did a limited run on his light up eyes. At the time I wasn't even thinking too far ahead about doing a full on Iron Spider cosplay but I hopped on that run because I am a huge fan of his work!

Every now and again I go on theRPF.com and look at their "Junkyard" section to see if there were any cosplay pieces that people were selling. I happened to run into @cos.may selling his Iron Spider Mechanical Legs, Light up  Shoulder Pads and Light up Web-Shooters. When I saw this listing and with Cavin Creations Iron Spider light up faceshell and lenses in my possession I felt that my dream of cosplaying MCU Iron Spider was in my grasp. I instantly reached out and got it. I eventually got a simple dye-sub Iron Spider suit from Zentaizone.com with the pattern done by Brandon Gilbert (@brandongilberto)

Once I had all the pieces together I had to put in a bit of elbow grease myself. First, I attached the faceshell and lenses to the mask, then I had to adjust the harness that attaches the mechanical legs on my back because it was a bit too small for me, finally I used a compression shirt and attached magnets on the shoulders so the shoulder pads could connect. I did a couple try on tests that took probably almost an hour each of getting the suit on before having a routine to get me in the suit in 15 minutes. (At first I needed help getting in but now I can do it myself no problem!)

The response was AMAZING (pun 100% intended) I was never swarmed for pictures as a cosplayer before. In a group yes but never just by myself. It was such an amazing experience. The compliments were so flattering!

One of my favorite compliments is that that I even sound like Tom Holland. When I'm dressed as MCU's Iron Spider I admittedly get into character and have my voice go up a couple octaves to try and mimic Tom Hollands voice and when it gets recognized it makes me really happy!

An interesting story is that I actually met one of if not my favorite cosplayer @Hendoart in NYCC as Iron Spider. Now if I'm being honest, it's VERY hard to see out of my lenses. From the fog to the lights, I can basically only make out shapes in there so when people ask for pictures I can still recognize body shapes and look at the camera but detail is GONE. I remember this girl asked for a selfie and so we did one. She asked for my Instagram but I never really posted (Still don't haha that HAS to change) so instead of giving a boring explanation I just told her I didn't have one.

THEN TO MY SURPRISE, after the con when I'm scrolling through stories on Instagram I see on Hendoart's story, she posted herself as Mary Jane Waston and ME as Iron Spider and in her caption it read "An Iron Spooooooder! No IG, he's just out here having a good time he said" that's when I put two and two together and my jaw dropped so fast. I even remember telling her that I was having a good time haha. It's the one time I wish I was active on Instagram. If I ever get the chance to meet her again and on the off chance that she remembers this interaction I'd love to tell her this story hahaha.

I always loved dressing up for Halloween but never found out that people dress up outside of October 31st until my cousin Ruby Rinekso (@rubinekso/fb: Planet Ruby) introduced me to the world of cosplay.

Ruby's a pretty well-known cosplayer on the east side most notably for his Batman 66, Hulk, Man-Bat, Chewbacca & Iron Man cosplays to name few! He brought me to a couple cons that he was invited to as a cosplay guest.

My first time dressing up was as the Eleventh Doctor and when I got asked for my first picture as the Eleventh Doctor, I had a gut feeling that this was going to be my new favorite hobby and still to this day I have yet to lose any love for it in the past 5 years of cosplaying.

Cosplay taught me that I wasn't alone. I grew up as an only child and I was always interested in things that were deemed "geeky". I loved things like Marvel, Power Rangers, and Anime. As a kid it was always tough to find people that liked the same things because if it was revealed that you did like those kind of things you were deemed a "loser". I got lucky and found a few friends that had similar interests but I can tell you that we were easy pickings for the bullies in elementary school.

So when I found cosplay through my cousin Ruby, it was pretty nerve-wracking to get into a community I had little to no knowledge about. I was nervous about approaching total strangers and while yes I knew they were like me and loved stuff that I did it was always hard to approach people. Until I found these three other people that were cosplaying characters that were in the same universe as mine! I was "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" Spider-Man and met with a Black Cat (@vixenjay_), a Spider-Gwen (@shaaaaaaantastic), and a Mary Jane!

When I say we hit it off we really did. We were geeking out about each others costumes and about Marvel and comics in general. This all happened because of the fact that we were all dressed as characters that interacted with each other in Marvel. I'm still close to them to this day and it's thanks to them that I've become more of a social butterfly in cosplay!

I just wanna say that walking around in the mosh pits of Dragon Con with the Iron Spider legs is the hardest thing to do without hitting someone in the face with them. The amount of times I've said sorry to someone because I hit them is too much to even count haha.

When I'm not cosplaying at conventions I'm an actor! This past year I released a Spider-Man fan film that I starred in, directed, wrote and produced. It was the biggest project I've ever done for myself and is the proudest thing I've created. It's on YouTube under "Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man Part 1" by After School Film Productions. Portraying a character that I've idolized since my childhood honestly meant the world to me. It's even hard to put into words about my experience of playing him. Just being referred to as Peter Parker would make me geek out! I'm just thankful I have such amazing and supportive friends and family to help this project come alive and making this film is an experience that I'll never forget! No matter how many future roles I'll play, being Peter Parker/Spider-Man will always have a special place in my heart

How I’d Rework Miraculous LadyBug

Miraculous Ladybug is one of the series that has such a good solid gimmick behind it that I like tricked myself into thinking it was good for far too long (a similar thing happened with Once Upon a Time). So I finally sat down on wrote out how I’d rework the series. It’s really just slight character, role and magic changes but I think overall it’d work out much better than what we got, in my opinion.

What I really strive for is the idea of real vs persona which each character show casing a duality in both and how different people act behind a mask. Honestly this to me is the most important accept of the series as its set with teenagers and aimed at a younger crowd who are just starting to find themselves. Anyway enough with the preamble changes below its a lot.

Marinette

So I’ve had a problem with Marinette since season one and it’s never gotten better if anything its only gotten worse. She has what I like to call romcom protag syndrome, Marinette is really good at a lot of things, with a wide array of interests that she's competent at and is very well liked but unlike a Kim Possible type where the narrative owns this and her being hyper competent is just part of her charm Miraculous wants you to think that Marinette is just like you’re average girl by giving her really like cosmetic flaws like a romcom protagonist. She's clumsy! (but only when its convenient) She’s shy and bashful! (but only when it comes to adrien), She overthinks and worries! (but not in a way that impedes her in a meaningful way).

You see what i’m getting at right? How can Marinette be your average girl when she’s already a skilled designer, makes friends with like everyone, can pick up skills insanely quick, is always in the right (even when really she should not be), gets good grades, is class president and her only real (in narrative) flaws are she’s clumsy, sometimes.

So in my reworking I want to make a clear distinction between their true self and persona and Marinette needs this the most.

First things first keep Marinette as very talented fashion designer BUT her sewing skills are not quite there yet. Look I cosplay as a hobby and let me tell you taking something from a 2D sketch to an actual piece of clothing is VERY difficult. Like and even if you manage to make it again what looks good on a sketch might not look good on a real person. So I want to showcase her struggling here, things not looking quite right and maybe give her a bit of a perfectionist problem like her friends don't notice the flaws but SHE does. I would also make fashion and clothes her hyper focus so much that while she CAN do other artistic things she doesn't really like it and struggles with it in a way she doesn't enjoy.

Next up I’d have activities she just can’t do, most important being she’s bad at baking. Like she can’t really help out at the bakery because she’s so bad at it, only able to take orders and clean up because her pastries always come out looking awful. This is because she lacks the patience for baking and the eye for it, though her food tastes fine they just look terrible. And it depresses her a little, even though her parents are fine with it.

I’d also up her clumsiness, like she’s not a good dancer, she slips a lot, gym is not her strong suit, is not graceful in any sense of the word the only time she is is when she’s sewing. Thus adding to her confidence issues.

Another thing I’d add is Marinette is CONSTANTLY over thinking things like to her determinate, like a lot of her clumsy moments comes from her overthinking things (this doesn't just apply to Adrien). And this aspect is shown to be a negative a lot in the narrative adding to her confidence issues. Like she’s constantly afraid Alya won’t be her friend anymore if she messes up, thinks that Tiki would be better off with someone else, and second guesses herself a lot.

Overall the picture I want to give Marinette is a girl holding herself back more than anyone else.

Ladybug

On the other hand when she’s Ladybug all her doubt is thrown out the window because she HAS to be decisive. She doesn't have the time to over think and talk herself into a tissy and because of this every time she succeeds as Ladybug her confidence in her persona grows. Putting that costume on makes her feel stronger, but the second it comes off the doubts sink in. If they depower during a battle Marienette is noticeably less sure and confident. Marinette

associates her powers with her confidence and as such can’t even picture acting like Ladybug without it. She does so so strongly that she thinks if Chat Noir saw the real her he’d be disappointed. In her mind Ladybug is everything Marionette is not and it adds to her complex.

Adrien

My biggest issue with Adrien is that there is very little difference between him and Chat Noir. One of my favorite things from the anime PVs was how very different you could see between Felix and Chat and how you could see so very much with so very little. I don’t think Adrien is as big a mess as Marinette but then we don’t get much from him  (which I would 100% change)

So in my reworking here Adrien would be a much more obvious people pleaser. He’ll agree to just about anything if asked because he’s terrified of people disliking him. He’ll let people take the last one of a thing he likes, will help with projects even if he doesn’t actually want to be a part of them and will assist people even if they are wrong because he desperately wants to befriend everyone. This will often lead to people taking advantage of and misunderstanding him. Like I want on more than one occasion a girl Adrien is friendly with seeing his people pleasing nature as a genuine interest in them leading to heartbreak and akumaization. This will also play into Marinette’s own worries about confessing to him as in my version he does treat her like a friend. A friend who’s gotten close enough to confide in at times (but less than Nino) but a friend all the same.

Also I would have Adrien just now returning to Paris having been living with his Aunt and cousin up until now due to his mothers passing making his relationship with Gabriel more strained than like abusive. And his experience in his last school was not great as it was a private school where his cousin made things difficult.

I’d also add in that Adrien feels like he has to be on his best behavior at all times for his family name and father’s company and will confess feeling stifled by it and that he doesn’t even like modeling, but its the only time he really sees his dad anymore.

Overall I want it to feel like Adrien is who he feels he has to be.

Chat Noir

When it comes to the Chat Noir persona this is what Adrien feels is his truest self. He acts and speaks and does as he likes, and sometimes he just messes around in the costume at night as stress relief. (maybe even have him not wanting to help sometimes because he just didn’t like the person akumatized and having to be bribed by ladybug) As Chat Noir adrien speaks more casually says whats on his mind no matter how cruel or crude it may be, and is 100% honest with himself and his feelings. To him Chat Noir is freedom and he’d rather die than give it up, it’s Adriens one real act of selfishness.

As such Chat Noir is the true Adrien and the person he is at school is the mask.  

Love Square

So with these changes how does the love square work? Um better in my humble opinion.

Adrienette: Marinette is attracted to Adrien for a similar reason to the series in that he’s nice and sweet and handsome, I wouldn't have her start being confrontational with him just not impressed until he does something she views as special to her, but to him it was nothing. Marionette is head over heals (but not to the creepy level she gets in the series) and jealous of any girl confident enough to ask him out. She’s constantly tripping over herself wondering if it’s better to try and move forward or stay where she is as a close friend. But Adrien doesn’t see Marinette as anything more than that he thinks she’s nice but isn’t attracted to her and never does anything he wouldn’t do with another friend and is oblivious to her interest.

LadyNoir: Chat Noir is attracted to Ladybug for her confidence and straightforward attitude and finds her lack of romantic interest in him all the more alluring. He’ll make grand romantic gestures without much thought and flirts regularly but Ladybug isn’t interested seeing him as a showboat who isn’t all that serious. She is good with them being friends but firmly stands that they are nothing more as she views being a superhero as a job.

MariChat: Marinette still finds Chat Noir obnoxious and nothing more than a flirt, but she also believes that if Chat Noir saw the real her he wouldn’t be interested. And he’s not. He flirts but not to the same degree as Ladybug ad Marinette hides her mocking nature of his more ridiculous moments. But when she’s just Marinette she sees just how genuine Chat’s feelings for Ladybug are and he compliments her in ways Adrien never would and seeing a slightly more confident Marinette

Ladrien: Adrien hides his feelings for Ladybug from others thinking they’d laugh (expect for Nino) so when he’s face to face with her he often doesn’t know how to act. For Ladybug her confidence does fall a little but is far calmer and more upfront with Adrien than Marinette is. As a superhero Ladybug tires to hide her feelings for Adrien but lets it slip more than once that she has preference for him making Adrien think he has a chance.

I would also have a moment where Adrien confesses his feelings to Ladybug and it leaves Marinette in a weird state. Cause he likes her but not HER her, and things become awkward between her and Adrien. Ladybug herself confides in Chat that the person she loves doesn't love the real her he tries to say how stupid this person is but she pushes back that he doesn't really know her either. Leaving things weird between all parties. just yes this is the drama i live for

Alya

So Alya I think is a pretty solid character, but I’d have her pushing Marinette more and be less coddling towards her. My Alya would practice more tough love and also would be less invested in her friends love life. I would 100% make it an issue for her too like have an ep where Marienette is so busy obsessing over Adrien that she forgets something important for Alya and she snaps at her. Also she’d me more into news coverage in general not just Ladybug. I’d keep her confident and self assured and make it a little more obvious that Marinette is mimicking her when she starts out as Ladybug.

Rena Rouge

Now I’ll get into kwamii changes and such later i’m just talking about persona changes for now. But as Rena she’d be more cocky and arrogant and would butt heads with Ladybug on strategy. Her confident nature as Alya is great for Marinette but as Rena it’s frustrating for Ladybug. Remember Alya is a superhero fangirl so she’d be all about the action and would think she knows better. And while she and ladybug don’t get along well she and Chat and two peas in a pod a difference from how Alya is with Adrien who she regards kindly but doesn’t think they gel well.

Nino

First off get this boy a better outfit. Second again i think he’s a good start to a character but I’d have him be in a similar situation to Adrien. His parents are rich and away a lot but unlike Adrien they allow Nino to do as he likes and most people aren't aware oh just who his parents are. So he and Adrien bond easily and he confides in him more than in the series. His laid back and trouble maker nature mix well with Adrien but he knows when not to push. However because of his easy going nature people dont expect a lot from Nino and don’t really register his serious side that Adrien does notice.

Carapace

As a hero I feel like he gets the short end in the series, so here his more serious personality comes out. As Carapace he takes super heroing very seriously and is more cautious willing to stand back and follow Ladybugs lead, and butting heads with Chat over jokes. Rena finds him a stick in the mud and he thinks she takes it too lightly.

Bonus for Alya and Nino i think they should date but i’d totally have them being that on and off couple who you can never tell if they’re dating at the moment or not. Just very chill and teenage.

Chloe

Ok I wanna make it apparent I could rant for hours about all the missed opportunities the series has taken with her. Like Chloe is by far the most compelling character they have and they seem to hate it. But not here not with me.

First things first no personality changes Chloe is queen and i will here nothing on it, but we will be altering how she engages with others and the narrative.

For instance she is Marinette’s rival but it’s not for no reason. Chloe also has goals to be a designer and feels threatened by Marinettes work and a little embarrassed they both want the same thing just for very different reasons. While marinette just purely loves fashion Chloe wants to be acknowledged by her mother (more on this later) As such her designs are more avant guard and less favored by her peers she also has professionals make her looks herself. So she gets infuriated that Marinette work is praised over hers. Add in that they both like Adrien and this makes for volatile interactions.

Now i’d also want to play more into Chloe being Adrien childhood friend. I’d have Adrien note that Chloe wasn’t always this way, and remake about how kind she was when they were younger. I’d also have him say she wrote him everyday when he wasn’t in paris and she never liked talking about school. I’d also make it apparent that her cutesy nature with Adrien isn't fake and that’s how she’d always been with him. I’d also have times where Chloe says no for Adrien on things she knows he doesn’t want to do (like he gets invited to something that involves a thing he’s afraid of and knowing he’d go she acts like its beneath him to do). I’d also have her crush being somewhat protective like her saying that she’ll only accept someone else dating Adrien if they’re good enough for him.

I’d also have her relationship with Sabrina similar only make Sabrina a little crueler on her own. But I’d have her agree with Adrien that Chloe has more to her than everyone thinks. My backstory being that during a time when Adrien was away but before Sabrina Chloe herself got used by kids who wanted to take advantage of her position instead of crying she chose to be mean taking the kids down a peg and vowing to not let others get the advantage of her. (Also her father didn’t help in her spoils nature but still)

I’d also have her being a long time fan of super heroes not always for the right reasons but a fan all the same and use this as a means of her and Alya not getting along.

All in all I’d want Chloe to be mean and bitchy for a reason not just a sometimes obstacle for Marinette.

Queen Bee

As Queen Bee Chloe is much more honest with herself, she still has some attitude but she excitable and eager to prove herself to Ladybug who she idolizes for being like her favorite heroes as a kid. With Ladybug she’s definitely a side kick sometimes to her determinate ignoring her own intuition. And with Chat Noir they have a more relaxed friendly nature with the two feeling an odd ease around each other. Like they’ve been friends all their lives and you can see this is how Chloe and Adrien would be if she were more honest. She also gets along so better with Rena and Carapace than Alya and Nino

Master Fuu

This guy needs such an overhaul I mean honestly if i were writing this I wouldn’t even have a guardian the kwamiis would just be chaotic objects of chance. But we got him so I’d make him far more mysterious I wouldn’t have him interacting directly with Marinette and I wouldn't make him the last just one sent to Paris to find the peacock and butterfly miraculous as they had been lost ages ago. I’d have him meet both Marinette and Adrien but have them not know who he is, just a kind old man who gives good advice. I’d also have him be the only one giving out miraculouses and keep all identities secret. Eventually he’d reveal himself to the main pair but it’d be more equal.

Changes to kawmi

So heres my hot take there should only be 7 active, the ladybug, cat, butterfly, peacock, fox, bee and turtle. Theres just too many we loose focus I’m not saying we shouldn't have more heroes but they’d be more minor recurring like they’re in two for the day or something type deal. The zodiac ones also act too much like dues ex for my tastes.

Another change would be the time uses, it’d go like this:

Ladybug and Cat those two can be used multiple times a day this is what makes them so powerful amount other things

Butterfly, Peacock, Bee, Fox and Turtle can only be used once a day or a week this being why we dont have Rena, Cara and Queen in every ep after their intros they have to be sure they’re needed.

(If we NEED the zodiac ones they can only be used less frequently making them more careful in choice)

Another thing is that while Tikki and Flagg have been approved for use the rest have to be activated by Master Fuu theres like a guardian magic thing that makes it so they can only be in stand by unless summoned by Fuu or Ladybugs Lucky Charm.

Another thing is that they can’t like psychically can’t reveal their identities while in hero form and if they transform or de-transform in front of others they will no longer be able to use the miraculous. Adding in further drama as even if they wanted to tell each other the truth they couldn’t.

I think these changes would make the story far more engaging and more definitive in rules.

Luka

His overall personality and role would be the same but he’d be more direct with Marinette none of this I’ll wait for you stuff he’d make his feelings apparent but would be open to other options if they come around and he’ll tell Marinette so. He also wouldn’t be very close to Adrien what I mean is he’d be nice to him but he’d be one of the few people who sees through Adriens mask and call him out not in a mean way but a like “you cant please everyone” and “you’re gonna hurt people like that” way. His main thing would be getting Marinette to not overthink and gain some confidence.

Kagami

Hers would be similar but less um stereotypical. She’d still be Adriens fencing rival with a crush on him, but like Luka she’d be more direct with Adrien with little interest in him acting nice. Stating things like she doesn't want to be his friend. She also would not befriend Marinette my Kagami wouldn’t have problems making friends she is just very hard to be friends with because of her personality, and finds Marinette’s wishy washy nature annoying. Kigali wouldn’t be cruel to her but she wouldn’t go out of her way for her. Overall Kagami would be stoic, sincere, straight forward, competitive and blunt. Her main thing would be to get Adrien to be more honest with his wants and putting himself first.

Class Changes

One thing that has always and will continue to annoy me about Marinette and Adriens class is how they’re all friends with each other, have these writers been to school????? Like I’m not saying they should be nasty but like they should just have different levels of caring. Not all the girls should be siding with Marinette all the time have one or two like Alix or Juleka being annoyed with her and Alya’s “plans” to get the two together (alix cause she’s seen this episode before and dense want to hear it and Juleka cause of her brothers feelings and Marinette not giving him a clear answer). Have one or two of the guys being annoyed with Adriens “Mr perfect” persona, again not overtly mean just don't get along. Like I’m not looking to make them antagonistic but just i think its weird that Chloe is the ONLY one who cant get along with everyone. Cause it’s just not possible especially with teenagers.

Change to Audrey Bourgeois & Mayura

Ok this is the big one and it might seem small but it changes things fundamentally Audery can’t stand Gabriel but was best friends with Emilie.

In my version Audrey is Gabriels biggest critic and never says away from taking shots at him particularly after Emilie “death”. She always considered him not good enough for someone she considered a sister, and blames him for what happened. Hinting that she may know more than we do.

She would also confess to Chloe that she left Paris out of grief she had so many memories in the city with Emilie that after her sudden death it felt wrong being there. Andre suggested she go on a trip to clear her head a few weeks, turned into a few months, turned into a few years as she avoided thinking about the loss. Of course a causality of this avoidance meant avoiding her daughter as well. She came back after Gabriel gave her a cryptic message and now is where this get interesting.

We start with Natlalie using the peacock miraculous but when Gabriel says this is too much for her and she wont use it anymore he means it. He brings Audrey into the fold showing her Emilie and asking for her help, thus she becomes Mayura.

As Mayura she’s very snide and snippy with Hawkmoth and often questions his plans and methods. She also notes Natalie’s growing feelings for Gabriel and remarks that she’s putting her life on the line for Emilie and insinuating that maybe he doesn’t love Emilie as much as he thought. An insinuation Gabriel doesn’t care for.

Anyway thats how i’d changed the characters, and powers for a more solid show in my opinion, I got no idea for plot cause I got no clue what they are doing. But I think this set up would yield better results regardless.

You and your boyfriend Mezo Shouji, had decided to go out to the mall to celebrate valentine’s day. When you arrived both of you were taken back by the sheer amount of people out in droves at the mall today. You immediately grabbed Mezo’s hand, your social anxiety kicking in. Mezo smiled gently down at you, he squeezes your hand. 

He changed one of his limbs into a mouth as he whispered to you “Darling, if it would make you feel better we can go somewhere else. Ok?” You shake your head no, looking up at the towering man. At 187 centimeters your boyfriend towered over your 152 centimeter frame. While it was sometimes a hassle, like when you wanted to kiss him. For the most part it was a nice thing. He could carry you if your legs got too tired from trying to keep up with his larger stride. Not only that but he was obscenely strong because of all the training he did for his hero work. 

So you while you knew you were safe, you still clung to Mezo’s hand and stayed close to his side. “Please dont far from me, Mezo?” Your quiet voice called out, if he wasn’t so in tune to listening to your softly spoken words, he would have missed them. He grips your hand tighter and squeezes softly. The two of you continue to wander the mall. Eventually you settle on going to watch a movie at the theater. When you get to the counter and you see that they’re still playing Birds of Prey you squeaked. You’d been wanting to see that movie for some time, since Suicide Squad in fact. You loved Harley Quinn and had actually cosplayed as her for a few conventions around the area. To say you were a fan would be an understatement. Once you bought your tickets and snacks the two of you went to find seats in the theater. 

After the movie the two of you went back to wandering around the mall. Even with the it being as crowded as it was you still had a good time. You were able to get something for Mezo and he got you something as  well. You both decided to wait until you got back to the apartment you shared before giving the other your gifts. You had picked up an order you had placed at one of those kiosks that made custom plaques, it said “Hero of my heart” with a candid picture of the two of you standing in a park gazebo while sakura flowers floated around you it also had the date you two had started dating and there was places on it for other important dates to be added. The kioski worker told you that if you wanted dates added that it was a free service they offered to patrons. It was beautiful and you were grateful that one of Mezo’s fans had sent him the picture of the two of you. You were excited to see what mezo had gotten for you and you tried to get the towering man to tell you by badgering him. Hed just chuckle at you softly and shake his head. You pouted cutely when he would shake his head at you. All that made him do was carrasse your hair and lean down to nuzzle your hair snickering at you. 

Mezo, wouldn’t give you any hints as to what he had gotten you but he just told you. You’d love it. Well that was a bit presumptuous of him because he honestly didn’t know if you would love it, he hoped you would because it would make him the happiest man in the world. The small box burned a hole in his coat pocket where he stashed it before he came back to collect you from where you were getting his gift. 

The moment the two of you arrived at your apartment. You went to your shared bedroom and pulled a few more gifts you had gotten for Mezo. While he went to the closet in the hallway to grab the rest of your presents. To say that the two of you had gotten the other a lot would be an understatement. Not that there was anything wrong with that of course. You loved each other so it was only natural that you wanted to get the other something special. When the two of you met back in the living room you both had a couple packages for the other. You smile brightly as you hand Mezo your gifts. And while you cant see it you just know he’s smiling as well from the way his eyes crinkle at the corners. He hands you almost all your gifts, he does keep one of them back. 

You open one bag and find a gift certificate to your favorite store that sold hero merch, you already knew what you were getting. One of the limited edition Tentacole figurines and Anima figurines seeing as you loved supporting the quiet man. That and it made Mezo laugh when you would fangirl  one of his old classmates. The next bag contained one of those build-a-bear stuffed animals. When you cuddled the bear you felt a heartbeat and then heard Mezo’s voice telling you he loved you. You teared up because you had mentioned once that you would love to have one of these for when he went on those long missions and couldn’t call home. You hugged him tightly, tears in your eyes as you open the last gift which caused you to tilt your head in confusion. All it said was “Darling, when we first met i didn’t know then how much you would become important to me. Everyday with you doesn’t feel like enough. So Darling look up because I have an important question for you” reading the letter confused you a bit but when you did as the letter asked. You gasped because there in the center of the living room floor was the man you loved so much on one knee with a jewelry box in his hands. “Darling, would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” Mezo asked, his mask around his neck as he looked at you with pure love in his eyes. 

Your eyes widened and your hands flew to your face as you took in the scene before you started nodding vigorously and screamed out “YES!! OH MY GOD!! MEZO YES A HUNDRED TIMES YES!” You launched yourself at him your arms going around his neck as you kissed his mouth crying and mumbling how happy you were and that you loved him so much. After that you made him open his gifts. To say he wasn’t emotional would be a lie. When he saw the plaque his eyes teared up, he remembered that day. It was on one of your first dates. Both of you were so nervous. When he saw the other gifts he got equally emotional. He loved you and the fact you had gotten him things both for here at home and for his office just made him love you more. He immediately set up the plague on one of the shelves around the apartment. 

To say today was a blessing would be to sell it short. The love you have for each other is something that only happens once in a lifetime. And you each made sure to appreciate it.

Wings Talks Manga: A Year in Review, Part 1 (Completed stories)

Last year, I told myself I was going to actually really more manga and watch more anime, because despite it being my main style I hadn’t actually read much in awhile. And I actually managed to get a lot done for one year. So below is a list of stories I read/watched and a few quick thoughts on them. Despite having my list open, I’m still probably not going to get to all of them, but I can try.

T.egami Bachi (manga)

I love. Anyone following this tag of mine knows this has been a long journey and that I loved every minute of it. The world is beautiful, the characters are great, the emotions run high...it’s incredibly cathartic and engaging. I will never stop lauding it.

Jiu Jiu (manga)

A short series I picked up from the library that I never really covered, but that I enjoyed. Sometimes it felt a little slow to work through, but it was cute and I got really attached to the characters over five volumes. Like the mangaka, I wish there had been more opportunity to delve deeper into some of the story elements, because especially near the end it got confusing. Also I’m assuming it ended in a poly relationship? The protag grows up and has babies but you can’t really tell which love interest is the father, if either are. They’re all together in the final picture and I support it but it also bugs me bc I am confused.

Dreamin’ Sun (manga)

Mixed feelings on this one. I honestly expected a modern fantasy involving a baku going into this based on the back cover. I was wrong. I was really cute, if not overwhelmingly emotionally frustrating/full of secondhand embarassment at some points. The characters are super well-developed and continue to evolve and grow through the series. I will forever complain about the protag falling in love and centering her life around an adult man, but there were also some very touching elements that I can’t help but remember fondly.

The Wize Wize Beasts of the the Wizarding Wizdoms (manga)

The first of a lot of BL I read this year, which is honestly very new to me. My introduction to Nagabe. I’ve mentioned there’s one story I’m not too fond of, but it could be my interpretation of it. Overall very much loved it and especially love the art style.

K.amisama Kiss (manga)

I series I kind of picked up on a whim and absolutely fell in love with. Cute, funny, touching, well-thought out. There were some elements I didn’t understand (like the end), but my enjoyment overall made up for it. The one thing I wish for was a little more development for some of the minor characters. Also I love Mizuki and his development throughout the series. He makes me emotional.

Our Dining Table (manga)

Another cute, simple love story about two guys making food. I don’t have a whole lot to say about this other than it’s cute and you should read it. Although I obviously have no issues with teenage protags, it was refreshing to have a love story about two working adults that didn’t have to involve sex. Also can totally understand one guy’s aversion to eating with others, even if my own isn’t as severe.

Love on the Other Side (manga)

More Nagabe. Really, really cute. I love the story with the bird (of course). The softness of the stories and Nagabe’s art style really have stolen my heart.

B.lack Butler: Book of Circus (anime)

We all know why I watched this. Sadly the ending is as gruesome as the manga, and the one or two scenes they added didn’t play well on the DVD. But still a delight (up until the end).

The Devil is a Part-Timer (anime)

Interesting. Funny. A good world base, but I feel they could have developed it a little more, and the last episode kind of soured it a little for me because there was no really wrap-up. But I liked the characters and had a lot of fun watching it while crocheting. Wish there was a season two.

The Bride was a Boy (manga)

A brief autobiographical manga about a trans woman, filled with lots of tidbits about transgender individuals and things like HRT. Short, sweet, cute, and full of love and joy. Again, not much to say other than I recommend it.

Fractale (anime)

A lot to process. I think I would need to watch it again to fully wrap my head around it, if not more than once. An interesting world, great character, engaging story, and beautiful animation. Plus just...kinda relevant in a way that’s hard to describe. Think ease of technology verses governmental control via tech. I really loved the episode about the mysterious photographer. Plus I just fell in love with the ending song.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (anime)

Yes, I’d never watched this before. Gonna say, not my favorite Miazaki, but as usual an excellent story with a lot of background and development. And of course I loved the creature design. Glad to finally have it watched, after all these years, but I also can’t help but wonder what the original English release was like, knowing they cut/edited a lot. Because a lot of that violence and death was...kinda necessary to understanding character motives.

H.aibane Renmei (anime)

Again, another series that’s been at the top of my list for forever. I didn’t even have an excuse not to watch is as I own the DVDs. Excellent, and touching, if not cutting a little too close to home at times (like self-harm/BFRB). Really my introduction to ABe, and I have to say I never saw the ending coming. But would definitely watch again and again. Kinda wish I could do a cosplay for this series (I’d probably be Nemu, or one of the masked characters), but I feel like you need a group for it.

G.osick (anime)

I didn’t complete this one, I’m sorry. I think the art is great, and the arcs in concept are amazing...but it falls through in the delivery. The characters don’t really feel like they have driving motives behind their actions, and sometimes the evidence and stuff are things you can’t discern from watching (’I can tell you aren’t the daughter of a coal baron because you walk short distances before turning sharply and walking the other way, like you’re pacing in a small psych ward cell’-yes, that’s a real example). Lots of potential, but not great. Sorry.

Wolf Children (anime)

Very cute. Beautiful anime. I don’t think I can say much about this that hasn’t already been said. My favorite part is the ending where she’s saying goodbye just because of how both painfully and empoweringly emotional it is.

5 Centimeters Per Second (anime)

Not bad, but probably not my favorite. It didn’t help that the version I was watching didn’t translate all of the writing, so I feel like I missed a lot of elements. While the story is definitely a sentiment I can get behind, it was also a little bit unsatisfying for me, especially at the end. But idk, maybe I just don’t like the idea of moving on when there’s the opportunity to not.

Colorful (anime)

It was...a film. About a suicide. Looking back I don’t particularly feel strongly either way about it. I think the ending was good, and giving the protag some sort of motivation, but it took forever to really get to a point where I cared about him (or he seemed to really care about the body he was inhabiting and the person he was trying to be). Some of the stuff was just...uncomfortable. It’s probably worth watching, but overall I wasn’t wowed by it.

Ibistu (manga)

My first shrink-wrapped manga. It ties together very well in the end, and the horror and violence elements did elicit some very visceral reactions in me (particularly the threat of the iron and, later, the staples). The short stories were also good, particularly the doll factory one, but I wasn’t the most fond of the one about the mangaka. Just know there’s a reason it’s shrink-wrapped and it’s not a ‘positive’ one.

A Silent Voice (anime)

Probably one of my favorite films. While I didn’t always understand the motivations behind some of the characters or their actions, it wasn’t in a way that made me uncomfortable like some of the things in Colorful did. It felt more natural for them to be irrational. Again, there is suicide, so be warned if you don’t want to deal with that. But the story is sweet and the characters are amazing. But I also have a weakness for things involving sign language and communication.

Children Who Chase Lost Voices (anime)

Very cool. Beautiful landscapes. Gave me very strong Princess Mononoke vibes at some points, but it also stood as its own story with interesting characters there are elements I wish we could have delved deeper into, though. Also...what war did the teacher fight in? It didn’t look very modern. Also also I will forever wince at the pronunciation of ‘Quetzalcoatl’. Death is a strong theme in it, so be prepared if you watch it.

The Boy and the Beast (anime)

Excellent character design. Excellent story. Excellent animation. My one complaint would be that the climax felt kind of thrown together, even though it tied back to the beginning in a good way. But overall a beautiful world with some great humor and intense elements.

The Garden of Words (anime)

Spoiler: again a story about a kid falling in love with an adult. From a platonic standpoint, the story still feels a little weird, particularly in terms of the woman’s motivations, but looking back her not getting too involved in him missing school...kinda feels like what I would do to, especially in her situation. It’s sweet, though. Maybe it’s just me and my preferences, but some elements feel a bit incomplete, and I wish had been explored/wrapped up.

Summer Wars (anime)

Probably a favorite on the films list. Again, beautiful animation. I’m not going to get over this style. But I especially liked the design of OZ and the excess of blank space in it. Characters were many but great (although I didn’t get the one baseball player was part of the family until almost the end, but that says more about me and paying attention). Even Mom got really engaged in it when I had her watch it with me (I also had her watch Wolf Children, which I thought she would like more, but apparently not). There is a character death, but if you don’t mind that it’s definitely a watch.

Beauty and the Beast Girl (manga)

A cute little story about a blind girl and a dragon girl falling in love-what more could you want? Their histories actually tie together in a really neat way. Honestly my one complaint would be that the ending feels a little too ideal and easily wrapped-up. But sometimes we need things to be that perfect, you know?

P.andora Heart (manga)

The other big story I tackled this year. There were points that were a bit slow/disengaging to me, but overall once I got hooked I really loved it. I think I need a second read to really fully understand it (if that’s possible), but equal parts cute, intense, and bittersweet. Elliot’s whole development was probably my favorite bit.

The God and the Flightless Messenger (manga)

My last story of 2020, and a very cute one at that. Another short story, with beautiful art. I don’t...really know what to say about it. It’s cute, and the love story feels both very natural and almost...secondary? Idk how to describe that. The relationship between the two of them is obviously key, but it’s the type of story where ‘I love you’ isn’t needed. It’s already there.

So yeah, there’s the list. It’s a long list. I probably still missed some. I might try to make a second list with ‘in progress’  series but I’ll be playing that by ear. I’d love to hear some of you all’s thoughts on these stories (if you’ve read/watched them), or which you now want to read/watch!

I got absolutely amazing pictures of my Percy cosplay at Katsucon this year! The weather was unseasonably warm so the beach worked out really well for the shoot and Siffy did such great work!

Dazai picked up the first volume on a whim one day just because he was bored and he'd randomly found it. He'd expected not to like it all that much, because it's a magical girl series and those are all full of ~light~ and ~hope~ and all the believing in the purity of the world bullshit. But this series had a sense of realness. Still steeped in the classic magical girl themes, but it never shied away from showing the darker parts of the world too and got a bit bloody at some points. What really got him hooked was the purple magic knight, Gillian. She is disillusioned about a lot of the world, struggling to find her place and her reason to be alive, but even those doubts never stop her from trying and fighting for a brighter future and for her team; bonus points, she's adorable and a doofus. He bought every single volume that had been released so far, binge watched the anime, and got every game and so much merch like immediately. This was all back in his mafia days and carries over to the present. He will talk anyone and everyone's ear off about Gillian aka "my goddess!" and openly calls her his wife. Everyone just chalks it up to Dazai being Dazai and that he's a weird otaku but whatever, nothing new.

Not much for romance usually, he honestly can't help falling in love and picturing himself and Gillian together, going on dates, kissing, double suicide, jk actually while Gillian isn't able to outright cure that tendency, he is surprised that the hope of her and her show rubs off on him and knows she would be disapointed hearing him talk about it or offer it

Chuuya hated the series just because Dazai likes it and talks about it nonstop but one day sees a clip of Gillian and gets a crush and he fucking hates it, absolutely denies that he also loves the series now.

Yosano also loves the series and is less open about it but she and Dazai have had discussions about why Gillian is their favorite.

Gin very secretly enjoys the series and often gets all blushy under her mask thinking of Gillian. Tachihara once accidentally found out and she almost slaughtered him when he started to make fun of her.

Higuchi has merch in a shrine in her closet.

Lovecraft does not have any merch but has watched the series after he was introduced to it from seeing Margaret giving Mark a hard time for his figurine he owns. Margaret only does that because she wishes she had the courage to buy more merch but has the whole series tucked secretly away where the rest of the guild can't find it.

Poe has 100% written his own reader insert fiction and uses his ability to experience it.

Also, Ranpo loves the series too and even though he has never really wanted a sibling before finds himself thinking she'd be a good sister. Fukuzawa once pointed out that he seemed attached to this character and he got super embarrassed about it.

Fukuzawa sees Ranpo watching and sees Gillian's struggles and Adopts, nobody but he himself knows this.

Mori thinks she's cute and also adopts and has figurines with changeable clothes, pretty open about it.

And Francis's daughter probably watched and so he bought tons of merch as gifts for her and then later sees it again and gets reminded of his own daughter a little by her favorite character and so mentally adopts, mentions this to no one.

Oda also wishes he could adopt and has spent many hours listening to Dazai rant about her, Ango gets roped in against his will.

Kouyou probably notices Kyouka secretly watching it mostly for the adorable mascot and feels sympathy for Gillian and joins in on the adoption train, sort of tells Kyouka that she wishes she was there to guide the young girl.

Yumeno is given the series to keep them self company in their cell and imagines her as a big sister that would take care of him and not leave him alone, has no one to tell.

Dialogue: "Shall I enlighten you, young Atsushi, on true perfection?."

Erza hears about this book series not long after escaping the tower of heaven and joining the guild. She finds strength in Gillian's refusal to stop fighting and her dedication to her friends. She gets a crush, but the series stays in the back of her head until years later she finds it again and rereads and this time falls in love with the purple knight. She has a whole bunch of merch but refuses to tell anyone about her love out of embarrassment.

She also secretly has two requips where one is a cosplay of Gillian's magical outfit and the other is a piece of armor that she thinks looks like what her magical outfit would be. She never uses them to fight, and requips into them for fun sometimes when she's home alone, cosplays and imagines she's one of the magical knights too.

Dialogue: "What'cha got there, Erza?"

Byleth saw this play while she was traveling around as a mercenary and was instantly captivated by the story of Gillian the purple knight. Her design was really what drew her in, but as they continued on their way she kept thinking about her and thought about how amazing she is. The next town they reached that had a production of the play, she insisted on watching again, and so it continues everytime they find a troupe putting it on. They come across a merchant one day who has a wall scroll of Gillian, and even though she knows it's silly and that with all her traveling there's not even a wall for her to hang it on, she buys it and carries it around. She's not sure what she feels, since love is kind of out of her reach at this point, but she knows she admires Gillian.

Her dad suspects she has a crush on Gillian and thinks it's cute. She won't go out of her way to talk about the play or Gillian, but she will talk about it if asked. Her students know that if they want to get on their teachers good side and try to get a grade bump that they can give her anything related to the series.

It's only after she starts being able to really feel her emotions that she realizes she's in love with Gillian.

FINALLY!!! My con recap is... long. And I’m wordy. And it’s long. BUT IT’S HERE! Below the cut for anyone who is crazy enough to read it all. 

Friday:

By the time the weekend really got started, I had already had the chance to meet up with @lillpon Wednesday evening for a last-day-at-work happy hour and then again when she, @justmilah, and @fraddit came over to my place to hang out, watch Once, and put the totally last minute touches on my Tilly cosplay. (Also, BTW, yes I am using nicknames because 1) I figure it’s easier for people to follow along and 2) I don’t know how much some people want their real names to be attached to fellow crazies and sent into the ether.) We ended up venturing down to pick up the car from my father-in-law, and on the way found a meeting place for @queen-mabs-revenge to gather with us. Now, we couldn’t find her, kept checking to see where she might be, when LO, HERE COMETH A TINY ITALIAN IN A BIG MCFRIGGIN HAT. Yes, she was indeed sauntering down 8th Avenue in her Lt. Jones hat, which was probably the 18th weird thing most passing New Yorkers had seen in the two hours since they had woken up.

We then all tackle each other and me, @fraddit, @justmilah, and @queen-mabs-revenge continue on to meet my FIL for the car, where Mabs was super on board with helping him trek stuff from the trunk back to his apartment after seconds of meeting him. Such a polite. Without much ado, we make our way to the middle of friggin nowhere New Jersey, aided by the very comforting fact that Mabs navigates the way I need to be navigated to. Much thanks. Many appreciate. Wow.

Our first stop once we go around in circles a few times since driving in Whippany itself is a damn adventure was to meet up with @thesschesthair. While Mabs is confusing the front desk dude with her hat, Chesty over there gives us a call and I sneak out, lock eyes across the dingy parking lot of the Red Carpet Inn, by its derelict diner, and leap into her arms. She then comes over to attack Milah and Fraddit before properly grabbing Mabs so hard they were close to osmosis.

I’m not going to lie, it’s at this point through to Monday evening where things sort of blur. Mabs and Chesty requested rooms beside each other and GUESS WHAT. Yep, you guessed it, they had rooms that actually were connected by a door that was hidden behind Mabs’s oversized fridge. Oh! And there was a random toilet just hanging out outside their rooms. Because, why not? When Puh Pah has to go, he has to go. Also, it’s here that Mabs gives us all Alice-themed totes from Poundland (YES, LAUGH, IT’S GREAT) and then we do roundabouts again to get to the Marriott where the rest of us are staying.

Registration was a breeze, and then we collapse into the lounge area where we meet up with @theonceoverthinker and an already-registered Chesty, where she and I are off to the side making inappropriate jokes and then deciding it’s time to wine o’clock this con. Guys? The pub in the Marriott got some play by the Pirate Crew (thank you, @freifraufischer for dubbing us all as pirates), we tried their Poisoned Apple sangria, shot the shit, and then went about checking in and getting ourselves settled while at various points meeting up with @captregina, @lillpon, and @freifraufischer.

At some point (again because all is a blur) we went to Chris’s Q&A where I asked him a couple of questions and honestly blanked on most of the experience because OMFGITALKEDTOSMEE. Then Jared came on, was very much however you’d imagine Jared being, and I was still very much focused on Chris saying how much Smee would love Alice and knowing that Colin and Rose day was tomorrow.

Afterwards, we got autographs, where Mabs’s delightful totes came in handy and I had Gil, Chris, and Jared sign the back of the Alice tote. Gil was nice and I complimented Jared on how much him being open about anxiety meant to people, but it was Chris that, to me, was the MVP. He was incredibly personable, funny, and a total teddy bear. I asked him about the blooper he was in where it seemed like Smee was trying to convince Hook to not duel with Ahab (the one where Colin spat in his face) and Chris said he honestly forgot what was happening in that scene, but he would ask Colin. Still, the one thing he did remember was when he knelt down in front of Colin in the post-duel “Congratulations, Captain, you won!” scene, he split his pants. The camera was to his back, but his treasures were on full display in front of Colin.

I also asked Chris for a hug because, I mean, YOLO, and he obliged! Honestly, he’s a damn pumpkin and I adore him.

Now, there was karaoke night after this, but some of us were bad idea bears and decided to say “f--- this” and went into the pool with some sea salt gin Mabs had brought over. We’re super classy, guys.

...What happens at the pool, stays in the pool. :P

Saturday:

OMG COLIN AND ROSE DAY! COLIN AND ROSE DAY! COLIN AND ROSE DAY!

I was legit saying this and hopping up and down I don’t know how many times. I focused most of the morning trying to make sure I had myself together, getting my tights ripped just right, getting my hair done, venturing to @captregina’s room so I could do her hair (where I met @brave-lassie), doing her eyeliner, doing my makeup, meeting up with everyone, and trying to contain my feelings about COLIN AND ROSE DAY!!!

I missed most of the Wild Bunch Q&A in my efforts to get ready and in waiting for Rose’s photo ops. I lined up with Capt just by where the actors enter into the room they do the photo ops in and got my very first in-person look at Rose.

Guys.

GUYS.

That precious angel GLOWS. I cannot say enough how adorable and lovely she looks and is in person, but I will try my best. She’s insanely precious. Honestly, I was probably a walking hearteyes emoji. I try to keep my cool as I wait for her in line, where I’m set to get a picture with her than a shared picture with her and Capt, and the moment she sees me in my Tilly cosplay she exclaims, “NAILED IT!” Then, like a spastic idiot, I told her I couldn’t help myself since she’s my favorite, and she said, “You’re my favorite!” Bless her. She’s insanely personable and tilts her head to you, and is a personified cupcake.

After that, I brought Capt in for a shared picture with her, where we handed her my bunny mask and Rubik’s cube I had made with the help of Lill as we (plus Milah and Fraddit) had lounged on my couch Thursday night. She geeked out a bit over them, I asked her which one she wanted to hold, and she chose the Rubik’s cube, I held the mask, and Capt and I held a pillowcase she had gotten a while back that said, “We’re all mad here.”

Rapid fire they then did Colin and Chris photos followed by Colin and Rose, where all of us collectively lost our minds throughout. There are some pretty stellar ones people got with Colin and Chris, and then OMFG KNIGHTROOK.

Not going to lie, I kind of blanked on it a bit. I just remember saying “hi” to them both, taking a photo in the middle of them, and then ushering in PERFECT TACO HAT LT. JONES MCMABS in for the second photo, where I pulled a crazy face and she pulled that cheesy salute in that pic of him and Bernard.

Then was Rose’s Q&A, and as you can tell she’s still the embodiment of sunshine with a dash of silliness. I must have had a massive smile on my face the entire time in between bouts of laughter.

Before her panel ended, they called for Colin photos, which I needed to get to early because I had Rose’s meet and greet, but HELL NO WAS I MISSING ANY OF ROSE. Nope. So I stayed, then dashed out, and totally thought I’d be fine because…hey, I had already met and touched the man, how hard could this be?

BEING A NORMAL HUMAN AROUND HIM IS IMPOSSIBLE. I just hope I didn’t sound too much like an idiot when I said another hello and asked, “Do you mind if I give you a hug?”

Tired panda just opened his arms and we took a quick picture, and his face was SUPER CLOSE TO MINE and I didn’t know what to do with myself and suddenly that scruff was AGAINST MAH FACE. I think I entered a new plane of existence at some point but remembered I had feed and managed to use them to walk out and not completely venture to a new reality.

It was probably a good thing I didn’t have time to transcend to nirvana because ROSE’S MEET AND GREET WAS NEXT. It got off to a late start since Emilie was still in the room when we got up there, but I’d wait howmstever long for her.

SHE IS AN ANGEL. I mean, absolute, 100%, grade-A, undiluted angel. She makes an effort to engage with everyone and really make eye contact with you, speak to you for as much as she can, and is just naturally her sweet and funny self. She then took selfies with everyone, where I told her my name was “Carrie, like the movie” which is my default at Starbucks because then people know how to spell it. She fake scared and pretended like she was ducking her head and going to walk out, which we shared a laugh at before our picture.

I missed most of Karen David’s panel, but right afterward was COLIN!!! Tired panda did his best to wake up and be his silly, smartass self, bless his heart. I’m so glad he said he wished there were more to the KnightRook story because he feels like there’s more to explore with that and HARD AGREE, COL! Also massive, MASSIVE shoutout to Overthinker for her crazy awesome questions!!! You are indeed worthy of being his favorite!!! Also, props to @the-girl-in-the-band-tshirt for her original question about craft services. Dudes, the things we don’t think about!!! I need to try a grilled cheese with pickles now, that sounds AMAZING. OH! OH!!! AND HE DID THE WORM! AND SANG! How were we this #blessed?!?!

We then had a hot minute (or roughly 30) before KNIGHTROOK PANEL!!! Guys, those two and their dynamic will never not kill me. THOSE TWOOOOOOO!!!! HOW PERFECT ARE THEY?!?! I think their humor together is priceless and she’s like a damn coffee bean to him. It’s a good thing I like odd things because I CAN’T EVEN WITH THEM. (:smirk:) AS IF THAT WEREN’T ENOUGH he goes and kills us with his Millian answer and I see Mabs and Milah vibrating into the ether.

After that is almost immediately autographs, where they had us line up for Colin then head over to Rose. They tucked tired panda behind this black curtain, and Mabs, Capt, and I coordinated getting various things signed for us and others. When I told him something was for someone who had contributed to the Whitecaps charity, he replied, “Oh! Very good.” Then he got my spyglass and went all childishly curious, peeked inside the box, then raised his eyebrow and gave me a smirk.

Then it was off to see Rose, who was taking more time to talk to fans, which is understandable given the fact that Colin had a longer line and Rose also can’t seem to help herself. Chesty gave me her badge so I could get a second autograph, like a friggin champ, and I had Rose sign the spyglass and also had the title page of the manuscript I’ve written (I NEED TO FINISH EDITING IT) and told her it was a 1920s Alice in Wonderland retelling, and I thought having her sign it would be a good luck charm. She sounded super enthusiastic about it and wrote a long note for me on it, which I will for sure cherish forever!!!

OH! And on my way to get into the Rose line, I hear someone say my name and LO AND BEHOLD, IT’S @leiandcharles!!! HUZZAH!!! I probably sounded like a spaz because I was on a Colin and Rose high and was all over the place but she pretended to not be terrified of the insanity that was me… ANYWAY!

It was then time for dinner. With the pub PACKED TO THE GILLS, especially after there was a bomb scare at a nearby hotel so the people there had to come over to ours for a bit, a group of us went up to Capt’s room to hang out and get pizza. I’m probably going to blank on everyone that was in that room, but I do remember dragging Leia there, meeting @coaldustcanary, Overthinker kicking over my drink and being roasted about it by Chesty (still makes me giggle!), and generally being a nuisance with Capt, Mabs, and Milah while Fraddit, and Lill went off to introduce Chesty to Chipotle. It has since changed her life.

At some point we declare we should hang out at the pub again, and a group of us went to go shoot the shit until Mabs passed out right there in the booth (CALLIN’ YOU OUT, POPS!) and everyone was sufficiently either toasted or tired. Some of us then venture up to my room, and shenanigans ensued. THUS ENDETH COLIN AND ROSE DAY!

Sunday:

While I was sad this seemed like a less crazy day for us, I was also a bit relieved because hot DAMN was I tired after the day before. Still, we didn’t have much time to really collect ourselves because the Mills fam gold panel started at 10, so a group of us wandered down to breakfast.

We then get in to see Andrew, Lana, and Bex, where Lana and Bex were of course hysterical together, Andy looked cute, and you could feel the collective vibrating of all Regina and Zelena fans which was adorable. I mean, I love Regina, but there was some LOVE in that room from her Evil Regals. I do wish Andy had gotten a bit more attention or had been a bit more vocal, but it’s got to be hard to not just let Lana and Bex own the stage.

There was then a decent break before Bex’s panel. That woman, as you all likely know, is HYSTERICAL. She kept the room laughing through most of her panel, and you can see she has nothing but love for her fans and her costars.

After her panel, I don’t have anything I’m too fussed about until 2 (MILAH WAS ROBBED IN THAT VID CONTEST, BTW, JUST SAYING) and so some of us gather together for lunch in, you guessed it, the hotel pub! Dudes, our options were limited and it looked like a library and had loaded potato soup. What more do you want?

It’s then time to MEET LANA, where me, Mabs, and Capt try to strategically settle ourselves somewhere out of the way but close enough to the side door to get a good look at the queen as she walks in. And, DAMN, that woman is gorgeous! Me and Capt then leap into the line where she proceeds to get two very adorable photos done and then I get pulled in to get hugged by Lana (!!!!!!!!!) while Capt hugs her from the back. She was super sweet and patient the whole time with everyone, and you could really see how much she loves spending time with her fans.

We then decide some of us need shots because some of us (*cough* Capt *cough*) are about to pass out from being so near Her Majesty’s presence, and then we wander into the ballroom for Henry Squared’s panel. Andy was adorable, Jared was typical Jared. I’ll be honest, I don’t have anything from that panel that seems to stick out to me as a solid memory, though maybe that was the whiskey shot’s fault.

Then comes Lana’s panel and, once again, you can feel the energy of the Evil Regals in the room. For however silly Colin, Rose, and KnightRook panels are, HOLY DAMN Lana panels are just filled with all sorts of emotions! It was like a damn rollercoaster! I laughed, I teared up, I was generally all over the place. SO MANY FEELINGS, GUYS. It was delightful but also made me just desperately need to laugh about fart jokes with my fellow Colin heathens. WE DON’T KNOW EMOTIONS.

Sadly during the following break, it is time to say farewell to the spun sugar that is Lillpon. I console myself knowing I’ll see her again, but it’s depressingly others’ last time with her, but ONLY FOR NOW. Yes? Yes.

Next up is autos with Andrew and then Lana. Andrew was a sweetheart. I was standing next to Capt and Mabs, where we proceeded to tell him how great we thought he was in season 7 and how much that season and his performance in it meant to us and brought back some love for the show. He seemed genuinely touched and said it meant a lot to him to hear that. Bless that boy.

We then wait a bit for me, Capt, Mabs, and Milah to venture up for Lana’s autos. By the time we got to her, we had this whole strategic thing planned out where I’d bring up S7 Hooked Queen, Capt gets her Hooked Queen picture signed, and Mabs gets the word for Capt’s tattoo. Lana says she did expect when they started that she thought Hook and Regina were going to be a thing but alas. Oh! And Mabs tells her that they’ve got family from the same area of Sicily, where Lana proceeds to say they do kinda look alike, and it is now confirmed #fam.

With everything over, we head once again to, YOU GUESSED IT AGAIN, the hotel pub. Chesty and Fraddit have already settled in and eaten, and me, Mabs, Capt, Overthinker, and Milah get ourselves all ordered up where we both mourn the end of the weekend and still buzz from the high the last three days had given us. A series of more shenanigans ensues, and none of us are ready for the weekend to be over. I’m pretty sure we collectively tried to drag it out for as long as possible.

For one last hurrah, we then venture to the pool again and meet up with @reginamotherfuckingmills and @agntreginaskywalker, where we all debrief and collectively laugh about the weekend, in addition to getting all into our feels about how Swan Queen fans and Hook fans are being all chill and friendly with each other. WHO KNEW PEOPLE COULD HUMAN?!

It was a fantastic end to the weekend, and there were more days ahead that involved ridiculous conversations in the car (Thicc Lady and Pointy Boi! Is this Central Park?! etc), meeting Mabs’s ENTIRE FAMILY, hearing Chesty lose her mind several times, enjoying super Long Island experiences with them, Milah, Overthinker, and Fraddit, and so on. Some of us also went sailing on a tall boat later, where we hoisted the main sail and felt like proper pirates! Then there was just general hanging out, but I won’t bore you further with that.

Instead, I’ll bore you with shoutouts!

@lillpon DESCUSTANG!!! You’re such a damn delight. Both sharing a bed and hoisting the main sail with you was brilliant and I love you forever. YOU MET COLIN!!!

@queen-mabs-revenge What are words? I have none. And if I started I’d probably turn into a mess so FARTS BELLY PT CRUISER POINTY BOI FARTS! I’ll probably emotion at some point and send it to you in private and then go run off to watch bloopers or something to get back to some sort of state of normal.

@fraddit SEVEN?! WHAT’S IN THE BOX?! Resting judge face or no, you’re fantastic, I love you, and you’re forever welcome in my apartment! Or basically anywhere with me.

@thesschesthair You funny asshole, I don’t know what I would have done without you to be there to say jokes as foul as mine. You were such a good sport about me being an annoying shit. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed we can celebrate your birthday with a Captain Charming shindig!!!

finally rested up from the nonstop con run, so here’s my pictures!!!

con highlights:

-guy on the street serenaded me with the spiderman theme on his ukulele in Chinatown (a real tobey maguire throwback)

-tiny captain phasma (girl was INTO IT, she was like 4 but Mighty and Terrifying)

-SO many little kids just staring up into my face like :0 and then whispering (or yelling) “hi spiderman” 

-one dad of those little boys asked me where I got my costume (he actually approached me while I was sitting down and I was rlly happy abt it bc ppl don’t usually do that!!!), and true to peter parker I got to say “I made it myself!!!” so ty random dad for validating me, and I hope ur little guy gets his costume made for next yr!!!

-one kid looked me in the eye, deadly serious, and flipped me the spidey sign and I honestly dont know if it was a threat or a gesture of solidarity. Kudos, kid, I’m very scared of you.

-I saw a kid dressed up as miles morales and I gotta be honest I was rlly hoping he or his dad would ask to take a pic w me bc his costume was Spot On, but I didn’t wanna ask kids for pictures in case they were shy

-one little boy had the plastic mask and silly string webshooters and his dad lifted him up so he could see me and he waved v slowly cause he was lookin at a Full Size Spidey and it was rlly wholesome that dad was So Pumped to see me.

-one kid just fuckin LOST IT when he saw me, like straight up staring at me In Awe, and I’m ngl, that really made my Whole Life, I felt like I rlly was spiderman

-EVERY Deadpool I ran into was nothing but cool and respectful, and I was honestly a little nervous going in, so thanks to all of you who managed to stay in character and not cross the line cause u did a Stellar Job 

-there was this one Thor and he was there all three days I was and I stg he always had a little plastic beer cup in his hand and I saw him drinking it but it was always full???? 

-I yelled “mr. stark!!!!” Every Time I saw an iron man cosplay to get their attention for a picture (I hope they were amused, I rlly tried)

-spEAKING OF IRON MAN that first guys costume was the Coolest Shit I Have Ever Seen In My Life, his mask flipped up like on command??? mr stark??? hook me up blease??!!

-I had the Actual Backpack and no one commented on it but it made my whole experience 2000 times better

-got to ride public transit in a full spiderman costume???? wow 11/10 experience 

-saw a J Jonah Jamesson and when he saw me he just yelled “MENACE!!!!”

-a guy dressed as green goblin saw me and said (in the low scary voice and eveyrthing) ““really??? you know no one like spiderman!” and I was cackling

-got to see the lotr panel???? so wild

-also the last quarter of the justice league panel, Ezra miller and ray fisher are both Delights

-flipped off some protestors from the west boro Baptist church (only after they verbally attacked my family personally, which was super gross and I hope they fall off the Ben Franklin bridge!!!) but it was rlly a freeing experience flipping them off in full spidey costume 

-A LIVE BAND PLAYING THE GOTG SOUNDTRACK WHEN WE WALKED IN ON FRIDAY????

-and oh my god the parade-like line on Saturday, that was amazing

-a dumbish thing, but no one looked at me and said “:0 spidergirl!!!” Like everyone called me spider m a n, they rlly knew I was tryna b peter parker and it felt good ngl

-this one girl filming on the balcony above the escalator (I genuinely didn’t notice she was waving at me for a long time but it made my Entire Day when I realized she was???? @mystery girl where r u hmu w that vid) was So Happy to see me??? wow. 

-oh and every now and then??? ppl just Snappin Pics. Not even asking to take a picture w me, just takin em, I Love It I hope I get to see some of them online sometime 

-oh and I Love when I was an absolute moron and ppl had to ask me like 4 separate times for a picture bc I had No peripheral vision and two layers of fabric over my ears (every time I told my family to wait up they just said “lol use ur spidey senses” and Id be more mad if it wasn’t so funny)

-wildly, i was actually one of the Only girls I saw dressed up as spiderman, and it kinda made me feel good for no reason??? Especially since no one treated me differently than the boys dressed up as spidey idk. (that being said, every girl I saw dressed up as spidey added 10 yrs to my lifespan)

-saw a star Lord carrying a sign that just said “sorry guys”, and the other side said “justice for Gamora” and I’m fuckin dhdndns

-every friend group dressed as the guardians really made my Whole Day

-group of four guys dressed up as the anchormen, all walking in formation. I tried to get a picture w them but I stg they just fucking disappeared after passing behind a pillar and I never saw them again

-I probably actually seemed a lot like peter parker to everyone because I just started jumping up and down and gasping every time I saw a Single Avenger, I was really just losing my fucking mind

-dressing up as your favorite superhero really does improve ur quality of life

-not a highlight but For Real If u dress up as spiderman I’m begging you to drink water and take off the damn mask when you can bc holy shit I went home after each day and just Died Immediately, please take care of urself lol

Magic Meeting

So I went to a Harry Potter convention here in Argentina, and it was really great. So I thought i would make a little review about it.

The Magic Meeting Argentina its held in a very old Hogwarts-like school in Buenos Aires, called San Jose, its been open since 1858. (You can look up pictures online if you are interested, the school is absolutely insane, and when its decorated like Hogwarts its even better)

At the Magic Meeting you can attend different lessons (DADA, Herbology, Potions, etc), you get to choose your house (you earn points in lessons, competions, games,etc), and at the end of the second day, the winning house gets to participate in a raffle to win Harry Potter merch.

Its the second time I went to the Magic Meeting, and as far as i can tell, every year they have the same system. You choose a house (each one have prefects who are part of the staff and help you along), each common room gets decorated by the house members (they create groups on facebook as far as I know), people participate with their house in mind to win different games and trivias, there are small shows at the stage and the host keeps people entertained. At the end of the first day the staff chooses their favorite common room, and the best one gets a bunch of points for their house. At the end of the second day prefects and professors get awarded, the 3 best professors get the order of merlin, and two prefects get to be Head Boy and Head Girl.Then the winner for the house cup gets announced (there is a counter next to the stage wich tells you how many points each one has) and the member of the winning house get to participate in a raffle to win Harry Potter merch.

Lets start with day 1, shall we?:

So the theme for this year was the 20 years since the release of the philosopher stone, and the 10 years since the release of the Deathly Hallows.

The first day was all philosopher stone themed,the trivias were from the books 1-4 and there was a small show at the begging where the host (who looks like Drell from Sabrina the teenage witch) used a time turner to get us all to 1991. He made a joke about not telling any Harrys about the future (which we all laughed about).

On the stage there were two shows that day:

One was a Dancing with the stars parody (or in the argentinian version, Bailando por un sueño, Dancing for a dream) where the Triwizard Tournament champions danced and got judged by Karkaroff, Madam Maxine and Gilderoy Lockhart. Favorite moments: In the Argentinian version (I dont know about the other ones) each star dances for an organization they want to help, one of them was to help the Weasleys. The points that Fleur got from Karkaroff was his phone number.

The other one was a Weird Sisters concert (with hits such as “Do the Hippogriff”)

The cosplays were quite good, As always there were a ton of Hermiones (more children than anything else), one of them had the Yule Ball outfit. Te most original one was a Fawkes costume (that worked great with the Golden Snidget costume that the host had) and a Minerva McGonagall half cat costume.

In the outdoor area they played quidditch all day (which again worden great for the Golden Snidget costume, as the seekers started chasing him around)

Weird parts from day one:

At one point the Gryffindors House points reached -40 for some reason (The host proceed to make fun of us, mostly because he is a Slytherin)

Day 2:

On day two we celebrated the 10 years since the release fof the Deathly Hallows.

This was the best day on my opinion thanks to the awesome shows they had on stage.

For the opening show the host announced that Dumbledore was trying to peacefully trying to solve the difference between the Order and the Death Eaters, so Dumbledore proceed to hold a contest between them.

Representing the death eaters : Voldemort, Bellatrix, Lucius Malfoy and a random death eater with a mask

Representing the Order: Harry, Hermione, Ron and Tonks.

They had a blow up the balloon and pop them between their bodies contest, a rock, paper, scissors contest (apropiately named, wand, stone and cloak), a miming contest and a dancing contest. The contestans bad mouthed each other and joked around during the game. It ended in the dancing contest (where jokingly Harry and Hermione copied the dancing scene from the movie while Ron threatened Harry). During the Harry vs Voldemort stage of the dancing contest (Both of them danced the Macarena) Voldemort killed Harry leading to a small video of Harry encountering Dumbledore and then resurecting. After he resurected they all proceed to dance, and hex each other at the same time, it all ended with Harry, Ron and Hermione standing like they did after the final battle in the movie.

The photo was in the middle of the contest, you cant see very well in the screen behind them, but the show is “sponsored” by “stupefy” (spotify) and “McGonagall” (McDonalds)

(For some reason Ron’s hair glowed under the black light)

As they all prepared for another short anouncement, the host proceed to entertain us by showing us different Prophet headlines. Because Slytherin was 1000 points behind everyone in the scoreboard (even though they had a lot of people) a special headline saying that Slytherin had finally won after taking out all the competion (The Magic Meeting has been a thing since 2011, not once has Slytherin won the house cup). There was another headline saying “19 years since the Dark Lord winning!” the explanation was that someone had told Harry what was going to happen, he got confused, and ended up fucking shit up. The last headline was “Cursed Child still sucks” (after the cheering stopped, the host asked if anyone liked it, a few raised their hand)

Then in the stage both the order and the death eaters asked everyone (in avery dramatic and cool way) to join them. (you could either join the order or the death eaters, they put a stamp on your hand and you could participate in a “Hunt the horcruxes” game.)

A few hours after that, a live band played the soundtrack from the movies (quite beautifully I must say)

Then another band called “Los tumberos de Azkaban” (I dont know how to translate this honestly, but they were basically playing the stereotype of the prision ex-con, disrepectful, still a criminal, etc) they played cumbia, with all the lyrics changed to Harry Potter stuff. They also did a parody of “despacito” which was quite hilarious. They were great, we all laughed and had good time.

The cosplays were also very good, we had quite a lot of couples in cosplay, Quini and Jacob and Tonks and Remus, for example. (Still isnt better than one of last years couples who went as Harry and Ginny, dressed in their Quidditch outfits, and kissed on stage). There was also a big cosplay group that went as the epilogue scene (During which James Sirius accidentally dropped his owl and trunk). The host this time dressed as Bellatrix (because he has the same hair as her), and him and Delphi shared quite a moment when she went up on the stage.

At the end of the day Ravenclaw won by just a bit of difference. 

End note: Im still annoyed because the Host asked how many people liked James Potter, and I raised my hand with a couple of other people. I still want to give a long ass speech about my love for James Potter and my hate towards someone I wont name.

Kaede tapped her fingers on the table rhythmically; It was a song, one note against the wood, but the pace was solid and steady. Tsumugi loved the sound, and smiled to herself from the front desk. A notebook was laid out in front of her, copying notes from a music book into it. Kaede caught her eye and smiled; Tsumugi smiled back and looked away, eyes casted down.

The first week Kaede had come in, she’d informed the other girl they had a copy machine, and Kaede had told her writing the notes down by hand helped her memorize them. She was going to college nearby, with the goal of becoming a concert pianist. 

Tsumugi had seen a few local shows after Kaede had told her to come; And Tsumugi had fallen quickly: for her music, beautiful stories unraveling with swells and lows swooping through the air of an auditorium, and the gentle smile Kaede wore while her fingers danced. There was never a stumbling, never a mistake in those steady notes.

Tsumugi had steady hands too, so she could admire it; when she sewed, when she put books back in their homes, when she…

She caught Kaede’s eye and smiled again. Kaede abruptly put her books down, shoving the notebook into her bag and approached the front door.

“Tsumugi! Do you work a full shift today? I’m so stiff; we should go out and walk a while!”

Bold as always- it was so cute. Tsumugi tucked a stray strand hair behind her ear.

“Really, it’s not good to sit indoors all day!”

“I think I’ve mentioned, I work at a bar after I leave here, Akamatsu-san. I’m afraid I can’t.” She shrugged, and her Kaede’s entire body visibly slumped. So cute. “Mmm, maybe tomorrow?”

Kaede perked up. “Yeah, for sure! I don’t really drink a lot but maybe I could stop by the bar or something if you want?”

“Oh, I don’t know if that’s a great idea. It’s not really a bar for a girl like you.”

“A girl like me?! C’mon, I’ve been to a few parties in my time!” Kaede’s cheeks puffed out. “Is it safe for you? Is it like,” Kaede leaned in, as if sharing a secret, “really sketchy or something?”

She leaned towards Kaede, so close she could smell her flowery perfume. 

“I’m able to handle myself well enough, but thank you for your concern. I have pepper spray.” She could laugh; but it was truth enough that she could handle herself- no need to give the blonde unnecessary need to worry. 

“Okay, if you’re sure! But I should give you my number in case of emergencies, okay? Call me in a pinch! Or, y’know, if you just wanna chat!”

She opened her mouth in faux surprise, and accepted the scrap of paper; Kaede had signed it with a heart. 

“If you really want, tomorrow night...”

“Yeah! I really do wanna go out, what time?”

So they chatted, set a time and place for the next day, and Tsumugi’s hand clenched the scrap of paper tightly.

And she held it close when Kaede smiled and walked away, her perfume lingered.

“Oh dear,” She whispered to herself. This was bad! Kaede really was beautiful! And strong-willed enough...how beautiful would she look under glowing lights in full costume, how hard would her delicate hands hit if faced with adversaries?

She wanted her; more than she’d wanted anyone, in a long, long time. 

She turned open her own book, a manga murder mystery. She’d already guessed the killer from the first time she’d read it, the pretty, strawberry girl that the main character had already forgotten about after she faked her death; but for some reason, it held her attention anyway, even if she’d read it at least ten dozen times. 

Did the girl, Junko, feel remorse at all? Or did she feel glee, euphoria, and more love when she saw the impassioned fight her friends was giving? Tsumugi smiled, closing her favorite book and setting it on the counter.

She had a date to get ready for tomorrow night.

“You’ve never read the Dangan Ronpa Murder series?”

“I dunno, it’s a little gory for me.” Kaede’s laugh was light and airy. “I know it’s just books, but I get so grossed out! I know they’re huge right now, but…”

“Mhm, they aren’t for everyone. But the main character is so noble! So willing to sacrifice everything for their friends. They remind me of you.”

“Of me?” Kaede looked up from her fries, mid-bite. “No way! I could never do that kind of stuff, I’d freak out!”

“I’ve seen you with your friends, Akamatsu-san. I think if it really came down to it, you’d try and help them however you could.”

Kaede looked like she was considering it carefully. “Yeah, when I think of them, I’d wanna try, but…” She grinned, changing the subject. “So, anyway, since you like the series, what do you think about who they’re casting for the live-actions?”

“It should’ve been animated,” Tsumugi sniffed, and she was a little bitter. “I’m not a fan of who they casted for Junko. She’s not- The wig looks too cheap! And- I have so many complaints!” She huffed, and Kaede laughed.

“You should send them your cosplay pictures to convince them to let you style her! Yours looks way better anyway,” Tsumugi felt her cheeks warm. 

“Thank you for the thought, but with all the retcons they’re doing...but oh! We should get you in a cosplay sometime! There’s a con soon!”

“That’d be fun! Even if I don’t really know the characters, it makes me really excited to think about wearing one of your costumes and hanging out all day!” Kaede propped her head on her hand, smiling. “You look so pretty when you get all excited about this, y’know?”

“Akamatsu-san-”

“You know, I think I’ve said you can call me Kaede.” Kaede slipped her hands over Tsumugi’s.

“I’m excited just being with you, Kaede.” She admitted softly. “And I’d be really happy if you want to meet me again next week?”

Kaede’s smile was like the sun. “It’s a date!”

Kaede looked even more beautiful than Tsumugi could have imagined, done up in purple and black lace, a masquerade mask over her eyes, hair pinned back.

“How does it look?”

“It still needs something.” Tsumugi circled her, checking over her own handiwork. “Maybe a hairpiece…” 

“Oh! How about a flower or something?”

She stared for a minute, considering it, trying to visualize, and Kaede ducked her head. 

“Honestly, with you staring so much I’m a little embarrassed. You don’t think it’s too much?”

“I could’ve gone more detailed with it! You wanted something simple, this is about as simple as I can do! I didn’t even put any anime references on the design!” She frowned. “I don’t know, maybe I could change your makeup a bit; something darker to show on camera more…”

“On camera? Will you be filming my performance?”

“Of course I will be! You’ll be the star of the show!” 

Kaede grinned, and gave her a quick peck on the lips. Tsumugi saw stars behind her eyes, and couldn’t stop glowing; Kaede really was perfect for this, the other girl’s attitude just made her even more sure; if she loved her so much, surely, everyone else would also-!

“I don’t understand what’s going on,” Kaede muttered to the boy beside her; he was going to the same college, studying to be a detective. Tsumugi had been careful to pick students with varying fields, to make it more interesting- she hadn’t expected the boy to cling to Kaede so hard, and it was irritating to watch. 

Kaede held her dress up off the floor, so careful not to get it dirty (and wasn’t that sweet? She was by far the best dressed here, and the cameras were trained on her as the center, as they should be.) Her eyes glanced at Tsumugi, full of worry. “Where are we?”

“I don’t know,” She lied. “Weren’t we just on the way to your concert? We’ll be late…”

“Are you guys idiots? You don’t know what this is?” A short boy with purple-tinted hair laughed. “C’mon, there’s like, what, fifteen people here, none of you follow the news?”

“Don’t be fuckin’ stupid, there’s no way this is that scary-ass game show shit! No, no fuckin’ way, I don’t have time for this!” A blonde girl snapped, but her expression gave away her true feelings of panic. 

“What game show?” Kaede asked.

“It’s on the dark web. A bunch of sickos kidnap students and make them kill each other. The police haven’t made any real discoveries about it, not a single lead about who runs it or where.” Shuichi muttered. “I’ve been looking into it myself, but…”

“That’s impossible! How do they not know anything?!” An astrophysics student, Kaito, blurted out. “Seriously, they gotta be close and just not telling the public, right?”

“That’s right!” Kaede agreed. Everyone was looking at her; just as Tsumugi thought, she was a natural leader, so positive… “They’ll be here soon, until then, we all have to live and look out for each other! Right?” She looked at Tsumugi. Then softly, she murmured. “Don’t worry, okay? I seriously won’t let anyone die!”

And that would be a problem; it wasn’t like Kaede could really prevent it, but if she intended to really try… She would be a beautiful star, and an inspiring martyr. 

“Thank you, Kaede.” she squeezed her hand. “I know you’ll do great.” She knew that, because she knew Kaede, and she loved her. Still, she wished she had the foresight to put a piano around here, because she’d miss that sweet melody.

Four years after I first visited it as a 19 year old journalist, I returned to C2E2 in 2017 to a much more crowded show floor and a world where a monosyllabic tree and a talking raccoon, not Iron Man were the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe. Most of my C2E2 was spent wandering around Artist’s Alley, chatting with creators/fellow fans/Twitter friends, and trying to not get lost.

One reason I love C2E2 is that they bring in excellent comics guests to balance the celebrities and their overpriced autographs. ($100 for Stan Lee. Come on!) There’s everyone from the very friendly and passionate webcomic creator Ngozi Ukazu from Check Please! to veteran writers, like Greg Rucka and Kieron Gillen, and I found myself flipping from Archie to Black Mask and occasionally a side of the Big Two while walking around. The Artist’s Alley is the beating heart of the con even though C2E2 also has two quite large gaming areas for console gamers and tabletop fans, and the Weta Workshop truly spoke to the Lord of the Rings nerd in me.
