End-of-Splatoon thoughts.
Thinking about how since the very start, Splatoon has had a feature where players can draw and post artwork and spot them as graffiti on walls or billboards. Or how the weapons have always been paint brushes and rollers and ballpoint pens. Since its inception, Splatoon has been dedicated to engaging its players with the act of creation and creative expression, showing them how their art can build communities and (literally) change the world.
Thinking about finding golden human-made music discs buried underground for thousands of years, and a grand finale music festival. About the Voyager Golden Records. About those human handprints etched into concrete in Alterna. Did those human artists know it would end like this? First a fiery death and then, eventually, a worldwide celebration of music to represent our shared past, present, and future. Did they know that their songs, insignificant in the face of extinction, would one day become the solution that will save the next dominant life-form from the same fate?
Thinking about how eerily similar the Octarian domes are to Alterna. About how close Inklings and Octolings were to repeating the same mistakes as humans. But their doomed fates were undone not by some miracle technology or military power or a rocket, but by music.
Thinking about how humans wiped themselves out with war, and our parting gifts were liquid crystals that somehow paired with the DNA of primeval inklings and somehow infused them with our memories and culture and a Song. And 12,000 years in the future, that same Song will end a war.
Thinking about how art and music and punk culture and rock & roll and friendly competition and petty arguments and water guns aren’t uniquely human concepts, but the fundamental qualities of intelligent life. An inheritable spirit that can cross evolutionary bounds.
Thinking about the theme of Splatoon, that art and music and fun will not die with the human race. That every piece of art we create is a seed we sow for future generations to reap. That our legacy is ingrained into the crust of the earth. That long after we’re gone, the oceans will remember, and they’ll pick up where we left off.
Thinking about how Splatoon says that the essence of humanity –– the thing that will outlive us –– isn't war or prejudice or destruction or greed, it's a song.

Ok.
So.
I know this movie was very pretty. Very pretty. Super nice to look at.
But.
God so much of the plot felt very underdeveloped and confusing. It felt like it was missing 80% of the story from inside the U. She only has like 2 conversations with Beast? How does anything in the virtual world....work? Why does not-Gaston have a dox-ray? What exactly did Beast do that would make the not-internet-cops hunt him? Why is there no moderation happening? Do they...feel pain in U? Why? (It feels like Digimon rules. Is this Digimon rules?)
Honestly, the moment the movie really lost me was when an adult finally calls the cops for a wellness check and is told "they need to wait 48 hours" for....for what? To report an active assault? I...
Tumblr media
But at least it was pretty?
This movie has 95% on rotten tomatoes.

The new twenty one pilots album has me revisiting my love for the band and the themes throughout are really lining up with where I am in my own life atm. Viewing the passage of time through the lens of a band that you've listened to from such a young age and seeing how you've grown and changed alongside their library and I'm. I'm in shambles.

I often think about how Sora’s theme is in D Major (okay technically it’s D mixolydian but we’re not getting into that) and Roxas’s theme is in d minor. That’s the parallel minor. They share the same tonic, but there’s key (ha, pun) differences to the scales that set them apart. Do you think that was on purpose? I like to think it was.
Ventus’s theme is in c# minor. Closer to d minor in that they’re both minor, but closer to D Major in key signature- c# minor has 4 sharps, D Major has 2 sharps, and d minor has 2 flats. C# is also literally a half-step lower than D. They’re so close. It’s worth mentioning that Vanitas’s theme, Enter the Darkness, is also in d minor, meaning the parts of that song that have Roxas’ and Sora’s themes play don’t even have to be transposed, and Ventus’ theme only has to be shifted up a little bit.
Also I noticed literally as I was making this post that Ventus’ theme has part of Sora’s theme in it as well as having Roxas’ theme and I’m about to cry
Also also this isn’t really important since it’s relevant to me exclusively but I’ve got synesthesia where different keys of music have different colors and feelings associated to them and it’s very hard to explain because a lot of the colors have nuances that don’t actually exist outside of the mindscape but simplifying it: to me, d minor is a reddish color c# minor is a light blueish Roxas’ theme is the color of sunset. Ventus’ theme is the color of day. Pure coincidence caused this

I just saw a video of "Idol" being performed live, and it made me uncomfortable in a way the animated music video didn't.
First off, "Idol" is not only the OP of Oshi no Ko, it's also the image song for the series's central character, Ai Hoshino. Specifically, it describes Ai's idol facade, how fans react to it, and the secrets it hides.
This is an appropriate focus for the song! If those aren't the most important parts of Ai, neither the audience nor her children ever see what's more important. And as the theme song for Oshi no Ko, it's even more apt; secrets and lies are the core theme of the series, and it's not even subtle.
But a song which focuses on the deceptiveness of idols, how artificial their stage persona is, with a chorus implicitly representing their fans chanting "You're my savior, you're my saving grace," being sung by a fictional idol on an animated stage hits a little different than when it's sung by real musicians on a real stage, surrounded by real cheering fans.
...
Second, at least half of the video was shot from the crowd. A crowd of probably 20 to 30 thousand people, in a dark, enclosed space. A loud crowd. Why do neurotypical people like that?

Deep in the throes of updated covid booster-induced fever, so it won't be happening tonight, but I finished Nocturne and I have Thoughts™ about it, which I will probably share eventually, once I have the energy. I also have Many Thoughts about some things I've seen slinking around the tags, which I will not be sharing, as I definitely do not possess the requisite energy for that XD

Words. Cannot express. My disdain. My disappointment. My general frustration with that production. I have the jeremy jordan tag blocked on tumblr now. Praying to god Miss Florence Welch pulls through with her musical. I bet SHE read the book.

Legible and illegible versions of a map of our version of innerspace. It was made up that the starmites have a turtle ship thingy in the beginning when we didn't know any lore but were to attached to use logic.
The handwriting is supposed to be punks because @lycheelsea drew this starmites handwriting page:

And I like it. I like to think the starmites have a really bad map of innerspace so they don't get lost as easy.

I'm midway through Radiant Tale and I don't think I'll bother writing my in-depth feelings for this one since I'm sad to say it's not really wowing me. I don't hate it, I'm not bored, but at the same time... three routes done and I've felt pretty 'eh' about all of them.
I honestly thought the common route was pretty bad - it's similar to Code Realize and Cafe Enchante where every chapter focuses on a specific love interest, but it just doesn't work as well and Tifalia felt consistently underutilized. DO SOMETHING beyond coming up with a show every chapter! It doesn't help that I'm not a fan of having to directly choose which love interest to hang out with - I prefer more subtle choices that depending on what you say/do, lead you to a specific character or endear someone towards you more. That feels more organic, whereas here it's like you're compelled to IMMEDIATELY pick a fave and stick with them every chapter.
Once you're on someone's route I think the story definitely improves but it still hasn't really GRABBED me. Zafora was Fine. Basic, but Fine. Paschalia was pretty good initially but the ending kind of jumped from 0 to 100 in a way that bothered me. I honestly think Radie's route should have been MORE dramatic and messy than he is. Without getting into spoilers, that's all I can say.
I hope some folks are enjoying this game, and to be fair I do still have two routes to go, but it's a bit of a disappointment for me and unless Ion or Vilio really amazes me I'll probably never return to it.

put all of your music on shuffle and list the first ten songs that pop up. Tag however many people you want, to keep it going, if you want to, of course
tagged by @feuxx 🔥🔥
I do not have all my music in one place (see notes) so I'm hand picking them too. I listen to about the same song is loop for months anyway 😆
Ora - Jovanotti
L'abitudine - Francesco Gabbani (I listen to this so much that it counts for 5!! If you liked Occidentali's Karma or Gabbani in any shape or form listen to this, because it's one of his best lyrics!)
Big Girls - MIKA
It's jungle out there - Randy Newman (Monk Theme)
Capybara
Obituary - Alexander Desplat
I'm tagging all my followers 👉👉👉

Welp. Cause I got a problem called 'I love me some rhythm games and video game music is the fucking BOMB' I picked up a copy of the new final fantasy theatrhythm. And I have absolutely no regrets so far. Which isn't a surprise cause curtain call is no contest my most played 3ds game bar none fhdjskshdkdkdg.
So here I am, having only beaten 2 of the like 30 stages (or however many ff games are on here lol) and thus played only about 20 of the songs included, and yet I'm currently staring at the ps store debating on buying the digital deluxe upgrade and getting an additional 57 songs to add to the 500+ that's already in the game.
I have decided though that I will wait until I beat the rest of the games to fully unlock their songs first... Then im gonna go ham and get even more music to rock out (mostly because it included music from twewy and there is no way on earth I'm passing up those bops fhdkslshdkd)
God this series *will* eat up my time like no other once again me thinks lmao
#No joke this series is by far my fav ff game like ever#Spinoff or mainline title it doesnt matter#Which is definitely helped by the fact that while i fucking love the music in this series#Ive only ever beaten 4 of the games#...the first 4 actually fhdksldhdkd#Honestly though considering the switch from ds touchscreen to tv#Its actually playing better than i expected!#Definitely more immersive with the stylus though#Especially the field music stages those just feel so lackluster now#Because the main draw of it was dragging your stylus across the screen as you followed the lines#Just moving the control stick up and down isnt *quite* the same lol#Plus they dropped the chocobo segements from those levels 😣#and the airship levels whenever you played their themes in each game...#Was nice to see that they included the ems stages as well#Mainly because curtain call had the new ones but if you wanted to play the ones that were in the first theatrhythm#Then you had to play that one#Even if just playing the stages on this one give me huge guitar hero vibes fhdjskdhdjd#Which i can see why they made the change cause there is no way those eould have been playable in their original states lmao#Cant wait until i unlock more songs though#Mostly so i can once again participate in the five daily songs lol#Though i am still super bummed that you cant play as all the characters from each of the games#Cause while i have yet to beat ff8#I would love nothing more than to play as irvine or quistis or selphie or zell 😭
