This Week in BL - Many Tiny Idiots, Some Irreverent Hotness & an Engagement
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Oct 2024 Week 4
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Fourever You (Thai Thurs YT) ep 4 of 16 - OK so Hill has really been trying to pick him up from the beginning? I don’t understand why there’s any doubt around girls at all. He Gay everyone. Why is Tatch (2 Moons Ambassador) the only seme in Thai BL history allowed to actually just say "I don’t date women.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is that so hard?
This show is definitely frustrating me, but I must admit that it’s the one I look forward to the most each week.
Love Sick 2024 (Thai Sun iQIYI) ep 6 of 15 - I am now only watching the uncut version, and I gotta say it makes all the difference. Please don’t watch the cut version of this show if you can possibly help it. It’s like cliff's notes of cliff's notes. I love the tiny side couple of tough kid + the dork of the music club. Ah the beach sequence. Condenced WAY DOWN, I see. We lost one of the most iconic lines in all BL but i think everything is improved by how much tighter the plot is in the remake (6 episodes became 1!). So I’m enjoying it. Weirdly, I'm not sure I would be enjoying it, if I hadn’t seen the original.
Is anyone watching this on iQIYI who hasn't seen the original? Just out of curiosity. Tell me how it's going for you, would ya?
I'm doing a face-off style watch along of this new version versus the original 2014-2015 version.
Tumblr media
Kidnap (Fri YT) ep 8 of 12 - I don’t entirely get it. They were apart for approximately 11 minutes. I would’ve thought GMMTV would’ve drawn it out for longer and more angst. Smiley face kiss was cute, but the star of this ep was that gorgeous pale blue waffle sweater on Q. What a great color for Leng!
Tumblr media
Jack & Joker (Thai Mon IQIYI) ep 7 of 12 - I do like that we’re seeing an honest exploration of poverty and hopelessness. I’m not sure how I feel about it inside my BL, tho I’m willing to persavere for this pair.
Battle of the Writers (Sun YT) ep 12 end - Someone said recently "just imagine what TutorYim could do with an actual script." And you know what? I agree. Because they sure as shit haven’t gotten one yet. And it’s getting quite frustrating. I’m having JaFirst flashbacks. Frankly, 2024 has been a year of unmitigated BL nonsense narratives. And I’m tired of it. I know it’s bog standard for the genre, but it feels like there’s been more than normal faff this year.
Summary
An incredibly convoluted, disjointed, and badly-paced drama that is about(?) some writers writing a thing and some boys who knew each other when they were kids, lots of pretty sexy times, and not much else. The visuals are gorgeous, the side couples are overly appealing (with little to no screen time), the dubbing and sound is absurdly bad, and the fantasy novel (play within a play) makes no sense whatsoever while also managing to be the show that we all actually wanted to see instead of what we were given. 6/10
In conclusion, I have no interest in attempting to understand or revisit this show, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it, but if you have nothing better to do

the sex is good (frankly I have exes that satisfy all the same criteria). So there it is: this show is like a bad but still hot ex.
Tumblr media
Every You Every Me (Thai Mon Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - Nice to see Fiat in something again. Namping is very angel baby.  This episode made me think that this pair would do a great Thai remake of Love Tractor, and now that’s pretty much all I want in life. I enjoyed wardrobe in this episode. It looks like we get the same characters next week. Cool.
Bad Guy My Boss (Thai Sun Gaga) ep 6 of 10 - I guess everyone is messy slutty bisexual in this show? Do I care? Not even slightly. BLabies, I don’t think I’m gonna make it. I might have to drop this one.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
See Your Love (Taiwan Weds Gaga) ep 1-2 of 13 - I adore it, what a wonderful meet cute. I love a Taiwanese BL that starts with a gratuitous kidnapping, some chasing, and a bit of a fight sequence. We in OLD fashioned territory.
Tumblr media
Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 5 of ? - I continue to enjoy it very much.
My Damn Business (Korea Sat YT) eps 4 of 7 - Oh! Is the sleazy boss gonna turn out to be actually a sleazy player? That would be an interesting twist.
Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo (Korea Thurs Gaga) eps 3 of 8 - I’m really not a big fan of my pain coming from Korea. I’m getting a whiff of To My Star 2 from this one. And that does not make me happy. I know: high quality high angst yada yada blah blah blah. But also unnecessary pain? No thank you.
Tumblr media
First Note Of Love (Taiwan Mon Gaga) ep 12 end - Of course, I love the part where Reese and Orca spoke each other’s languages.
Conclusion
Had this been produced a mere 3 or 4 years ago, I would’ve been quite enamored. But by comparison to what we’ve been getting, this is a lackluster offering. A has-been musician and a much younger composer meet, fall in love, and attempt to rectify his stalled musical career. Cute side couple of a Thai popstar + his Korean manager. Everyone is very fine and it was a fine show. I wasn’t disappointed, but I wasn’t impressed either. 8/10
Tumblr media
Love is Like a Poison AKA Doku Koi: Doku mo Sugireba Koi to Naru (Japan Tues Netflix?) 6 of 10 eps - It was a fun little confession and climax, there was crying, and a bridge kiss (been a while) all of this appeals to me even if they are tiny idiots (in the immortal words of @heretherebedork )
Eccentric Romance (Korea Weds Viki) eps 5-6 of 12 - More tiny idiot boyfriends who don’t realize they’re boyfriends. That’s it, that’s all that’s happening. Ostensibly there’s some kind of murder. But it seems to be acting more like set dressing than plot.
It's airing but...
The Hidden Moon (Sat WeTV) 10 eps - Supernatural romance (my ghost boyfriend trope) by Violet Rain (I Feel You Linger). A man is hired to write an article about an old mansion. He sees the ghosts of people who died at the mansion, falls in love with one of them. Was substantially recast. I loved IFYLITA except the ending so I think I'll let this one run it's course you can tell me if it's work tracking down... if they managed to land it. I have my doubts.
In case you missed it
Mew & Tul legit engaged.
Love in the Big City (Korea Viki) 8ep - Vicki dropped them all at once which means I did what I do under such circumstances and skipped to watch the final episode. (I am well aware that this makes me a monster. ) Anygay, that told me that I’m not gonna be bothering to watch the series. Now y'all can tell me how amazing it is and what I’ve missed and blah blah blah. But I’m comfortable with my choice. It’s ICRY 2.0 + HIV. And I’m not willing to play its literatti game. At some point I might watch it on fast-forward for the sex scenes, but I’m not at that point yet.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Tumblr media
Upcoming BLs for 2024 are listed here. This list is not kept updated, so please leave a comment if you know something new or RP with additions.
Still Coming:
10/27 Perfect 10 Liners (Thai Sun YouTube?) 24 eps! - New directing yet another university BL with engineers + their mentees. Based on a Jittirain novel. with a massive cast and massive run time. We will be watching this until APRIL of 2025!
ForceBook playing the same old characters = enemies to lovers tsunder/sunshine jock/nerd thing.
PerthChimonSanta are doing the cohabitation cool guy/dork trope.
JuniorMark are doing popular sunshine meets lonely sad boy (the only interesting pair IMHO).
I think Blue Canvas of Youthful Days has started on iQIYI but I only get it on Viki and that doesn't drop for a few days, plus...... CBL......? Not sure I'll report on this one unless it's really good.
THIS WEEK’S BEST MOMENTS
Tumblr media
From Uncle Unknown which is truly terrible but this was so SO funny. I'm still chuckling when I think about it.
Tumblr media
The first representation of shipping in a BL that I actually enjoyed. Also Dat's clear approval of being shipped didn't hurt. (Judge)
(lask week)

A fan on TikTok talks about seeing Lando dj at @yndjs set two weeks ago in Monaco 👀
“My friends and I had no idea he had been there the whole time even before [he came out] but some people said they saw him. He started to dj about an hour into the set and yn was on the other side hyping up the crowd and dancing! Lando only dj-ed about 30 minutes but he did stay in booth area the whole night. To me it seemed like already knew each other because they were very chatty and greeted each other with a hug.”
Apparently Lando and Yn know each other better than most fans originally thought đŸ«ą

lando norris x celeb!ex!reader
28.08.24
୚ৎLando’s girlfriend finds herself constantly measuring herself against you, unable to escape the shadow of your presence in every interaction she has with him since their reconciliation. Every moment they share together is tainted by her preoccupation with you, as she struggles with the lingering comparisons and the haunting feeling that you’re always a part of their relationship.
i might make another one of these (not a lando one tho) more based on the music video but i love this so much <3
(also there isnt much lando x reader its more so julie-the girlfriend- losing her mind this is 3k words btw longs thing ive posted im pretty sure)
୚ৎ back one page ୚ৎ back two pages
Tumblr media
Julie’s voice echoed from Lando’s bedroom as she rummaged through his closet. "Hey, Lando, where did your brown hoodie go?"
Lando, halfway through rifling the fridge for his meal prep, paused, raising an eyebrow. "Which one? I’ve got a ton of brown hoodies," he called back, finally grabbing a yogurt and tearing off the lid.
Julie appeared in the doorway, holding a hoodie up to inspect it. "Its just plain brown. I think you wore it for the chicken shop date thing?"
Lando froze, spoon mid-air, his eyes widening in recognition. The hoodie. The one you had practically claimed as your own during your time together. He could vividly remember the countless times you’d thrown it on, the sleeves always a little too long on you, but it became your favourite because it smelled like him. He cursed under his breath. "Son of a—"
Julie’s brow furrowed. "What?"
"Nothing, just... yogurt," Lando muttered, quickly shovelling a spoonful into his mouth to avoid further questions. But his mind was miles away, back to the days when you two were inseparable.
Tumblr media
The buzz around the Grand Prix was electric, but as usual, social media had its own storm brewing. While Lando and Julie were busy with pre-race activities at the track, a new post began circulating online, quickly capturing everyone’s attention.
A fan had snapped a picture of you at the airport, casually dressed in leggings, sneakers, and a brown hoodie that was instantly recognizable to anyone who followed Lando Norris. It wasn’t just any brown hoodie—it was his brown hoodie from the video that everyone was complementing his boyfriend skills, the one that had become almost iconic. The photo showed you standing by the gate, luggage in hand, seemingly unaware of the stir you were causing.
Within minutes, the photo was everywhere. "is lando and y/n back together?" one tweet read, followed by countless others speculating about whether you and Lando were back together. "They must be seeing each other again. Why else would she have his hoodie?" someone commented, adding fuel to the fire.
Back at the GP, Julie was enjoying the day, blissfully unaware of the online frenzy. She and Lando had been photographed together several times, looking every bit the happy couple. But as she scrolled through her phone in between sessions, her smile faded. Her notifications were blowing up—fans tagging her, sending messages, and most of all, sharing that airport photo of you.
Her heart dropped as she recognized the hoodie immediately. There was no mistaking it. Lando had worn it countless times, and now, there you were, casually wearing it in public like it was yours. It was supposed to be her hoodie. She wanted to wear it, yet here you were strutting with it slinged on.
Julie’s mind raced with jealousy and frustration. She knew that you and Lando had a history, but this felt like a public reminder of something she couldn’t quite shake—a connection that still lingered between the two of you. People were already speculating that you and Lando were rekindling your romance, and the thought of it made her stomach churn.
Without thinking, Julie opened her camera roll and found a picture from earlier that morning. Both of them smiling with his arm draped around her shoulders. She quickly uploaded it to Instagram.

julie.love My forever ❀
The post was live within seconds, and as the likes and comments started rolling in, Julie felt a brief sense of control. "You two are so perfect together!" someone commented. "Lando and Julie forever!" another wrote. But no matter how many compliments she received, the uneasy feeling in her gut remained.
Lando, on the other hand, was caught off guard when his teammate showed him the airport photo of you. "Hey, mate, isn’t this your hoodie?" they asked with a grin. Lando stared at the screen, a mix of surprise and nostalgia washing over him.
Neither of you had given any clothes back. It wasn't an agreement that you would go back to each other. Nothing like that. The pair of you were just too busy to drop the clothes off, mutually agreeing just keep them or get rid of them. However it reminded him of how intertwined your lives had been, and how some things, like that hoodie, had slipped through the cracks.
When Lando later saw Julie’s post, he felt a pang of guilt. He knew it was more than just a cute couple picture—it was a reaction, a way to claim him in the face of rumors and speculations. But even as he stood next to Julie, smiling for the cameras, he couldn’t help but feel the pull of the past, and the complications it brought into his present.
Julie’s post might have been an attempt to silence the rumours, but the truth was that the sight of you in his hoodie had stirred up more than just gossip. It was a reminder that some connections aren’t easily broken, and no matter how much time passes, there are pieces of the past that linger—no matter how hard you try to move on.
The night had settled quietly over the city, the noise of the race weekend fading into the background. Lando and Julie were lying in bed, the soft hum of the air conditioner the only sound in the room. Lando had drifted off quickly, his breathing steady and calm, completely relaxed after a long day at the track.
But Julie couldn’t sleep. She lay on her side, facing Lando, her thoughts racing. She stared at his peaceful face, the dim light from the street outside casting soft shadows across his features. He looked content, his usual easy smile tugging at the corners of his lips even in sleep. It was a sight that usually brought her comfort, but tonight, it only made the knot in her stomach tighten.
Julie’s mind was consumed with thoughts of you—your face, the hoodie, the way you seemed to still have a hold on parts of Lando that she couldn’t reach. She kept replaying the image of you at the airport, casually wearing his hoodie as if it were nothing, as if it didn’t mean something.
She wondered if Lando had thought about you at all when he saw the photo earlier, or if he had truly dismissed it as easily as he’d said he did. He had brushed off the rumors, laughing them away, saying it was just a hoodie, nothing more. But Julie couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something lingering beneath the surface.
As she lay there, watching Lando sleep, her heart ached with insecurity. She wondered if, even in his dreams, he was thinking of you. Did his mind wander back to the memories you shared, to the jokes and the late-night conversations that were once his world? Was there a part of him that still longed for what you had, even if he would never admit it?
Julie wanted to reach out, to touch his face, to reassure herself that he was hers, but her hand hesitated. The thought of you, still a presence in his life, made her doubt the closeness they shared. It felt like a shadow, something she couldn’t compete with, no matter how hard she tried.
She sighed softly, trying to push the thoughts away, but they lingered like a stubborn cloud, refusing to clear. Julie knew Lando loved her—he showed it in so many ways—but the fear of what he might still feel for you gnawed at her, making her question everything.
As Lando shifted slightly in his sleep, murmuring something unintelligible, Julie’s breath caught. Was he dreaming of you? Or was it just her own fears playing tricks on her? She closed her eyes, willing herself to believe that he was dreaming of nothing at all, that his mind was as peaceful as his expression.
But as she lay there, restless and wide awake, Julie couldn’t shake the haunting thought that maybe, just maybe, she wasn’t the only one thinking about you tonight.
It was a lazy afternoon at the hotel, with Lando and Julie lounging on the balcony, enjoying the view of the bustling city below. Julie leaned back in her chair, sipping on a cool drink, and looked over at Lando with a playful smile. "If you could do one crazy thing right now, what would it be?" she asked, curious to hear his answer.
Lando paused for a moment, thinking it over. A mischievous grin spread across his face as he replied, "I want to jump off a cliff into the ocean. I’ve never done that before."
Julie blinked in surprise, then burst into laughter. "What? Where did that come from?"
Lando laughed along with her. "It just sounds like a rush, doesn’t it? Plus, it’s one of those things you’ve got to try at least once."
Julie shook her head, still chuckling. "You're so weird sometimes."
Lando shrugged with a grin, enjoying the lighthearted moment. "Hey, there’s a first time for everything."
They spent the rest of the afternoon together, enjoying each other’s company, but as the day wore on, Julie found herself thinking about Lando’s unexpected response. It wasn’t that the idea of cliff diving was so out of character—Lando was always up for an adventure—but it was the way he said it, with a humor and boldness that seemed a little different from his usual demeanor.
Later that evening, back at the hotel, Julie was scrolling through TikTok while Lando was in the shower. As she mindlessly flipped through videos, one caught her attention. It was a compilation of funny moments from various celebrities, and the first clip was of you. The video showed you laughing, full of energy, as you spoke into the camera.
"If I could do anything right now, I’d totally jump off a cliff into the ocean," you said with a playful grin. "I’ve never done it before, and I’m kind of scared, but also, it’s on my bucket list. Who’s with me?"
Julie’s laughter died in her throat as she watched. Her stomach twisted as she realized that Lando’s earlier comment wasn’t just a random thought—it was something he had picked up from you. The way you said it, with that same mix of humor and excitement, was almost identical to how Lando had phrased it.
She put her phone down, her mind racing. The connection was too clear to ignore. You were still influencing him, whether Lando realized it or not. It wasn’t just in the big things, but in the small, subtle ways that you had left a mark on him.
Julie glanced toward the bathroom, where the sound of the shower running echoed through the room. She felt a pang of insecurity, wondering if she would always be competing with the ghost of you—your humor, your quirks, the pieces of you that had woven themselves into Lando’s life and stayed there, even after you were gone.
As Lando emerged from the bathroom, toweling off his hair with that familiar, carefree smile, Julie tried to push the thoughts away. She didn’t want to spoil the moment or let her doubts show. But as she forced a smile, she couldn’t help but feel that your presence was still very much there, lingering between them, even now.
The night was alive with celebration. The pulsating beat of the music, the vibrant lights flashing across the packed dance floor, and the electric energy of the crowd all mixed together in a whirlwind of excitement. All of the drivers were having a night out in Monaco. Julie clung to Lando's side, basking in his happiness, proud and exhilarated. The night felt perfect, almost surreal.
As the night wore on, Julie excused herself to the bathroom, weaving through the crowd and slipping past the velvet ropes into the dimly lit hallway. The bathroom was a sanctuary from the chaos outside, quieter but still buzzing with the distant thump of the music.
Julie washed her hands, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She smiled to herself, thinking about Lando, how far he’d come, and how good they looked together tonight. She was about to turn the tap off when she felt a presence behind her, someone stepping close enough to brush against her.
Julie froze, her breath catching in her throat. Slowly, she looked up into the mirror and saw you standing directly behind her, your reflection clear as day. Your eyes locked onto hers through the glass, and a sly, knowing smile played on your lips.
Before Julie could react, you leaned in closer, your breath warm against her ear as you whispered, "Every time you close your eyes and feel his lips, you're feelin' mine. And every time you breathe his air, just know I was already there."
Julie’s heart pounded in her chest, her pulse echoing in her ears. She wanted to move, to say something, but she was rooted to the spot, mesmerized and terrified by your presence.
You continued, your voice soft but laced with a sharp edge, "You can have him if you like. I've been there, done that once or twice. And talkin' 'bout it don't mean I care. Yeah, I know I've been known to share."
As soon as the last word left your lips, Julie snapped out of her daze. She spun around, her breath coming in quick, shallow gasps. But the bathroom was empty. You were gone—vanished as if you had never been there at all.
Julie’s eyes darted around the small space, her hands trembling as she clutched the edge of the sink. Was it real? Had you actually been there, or was it some twisted trick of her mind? The encounter had felt so vivid, so real, but now she was alone, the silence of the bathroom pressing in around her.
She quickly turned back to the mirror, half-expecting to see you again, but there was nothing—just her own wide-eyed reflection staring back at her. The words you had whispered echoed in her mind, taunting her, making her question everything.
Julie took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself, but the unease wouldn’t leave her. She felt as though your presence had left a mark, something intangible yet undeniable, a reminder that no matter how much she tried to hold onto Lando, your shadow was always there, lurking in the corners of her mind.
Fighting back a wave of panic, Julie hurried out of the bathroom, back into the noisy, crowded club. She pushed through the throngs of people until she found Lando again, his carefree smile and bright eyes a stark contrast to the turmoil swirling inside her.
He pulled her close, wrapping an arm around her waist, and she tried to lose herself in the music, in the celebration. But no matter how hard she tried to shake it off, the memory of your words stayed with her, haunting her, and making her wonder if she would ever truly have him to herself.
The paddock was alive with the vibrant energy of race day at Zandvoort. The excitement was palpable as Lando prepared for his race, surrounded by cameras, fans, and a sea of media. Julie stood close to Lando, trying to stay calm amidst the chaos. She had been eagerly supporting him all weekend, but today, her nerves were frayed.
As Lando was about to enter the garage, he turned to Julie, pulling her into an embrace. “Hey, kiss of well done?” he asked with a soft smile, his voice barely audible over the ambient noise.
Julie managed a smile, trying to focus on the positive. “Well done,” she whispered, leaning in to kiss him. It was supposed to be a sweet moment after the race, a brief respite from the frenzy surrounding them.
But as their lips met, Julie’s perception shifted abruptly. The kiss, the closeness, the sensation—it felt strangely familiar, as if she were kissing someone else entirely. A cold shiver of panic raced through her, and in her mind, it wasn’t Lando she was kissing, but you.
Her eyes flew open, and the illusion was enough to send her into a spiral of distress. She pulled away from Lando, her fear manifesting in her voice. “Get away from me!” she screamed, her voice trembling with a mix of terror and anger. “Leave me alone, Y/N! Just leave me alone!”
The scene erupted into stunned silence as Julie’s outburst pierced through the crowd. The media, the fans, and even Lando looked on in shock. Julie’s face was flushed, her eyes wide with fear as she backed away from Lando, who looked utterly bewildered.
As Julie’s panic peaked, she turned and fled, running frantically through the paddock. Her eyes were clouded with tears, her breath coming in ragged gasps. In her haste, she collided hard with someone coming from the opposite direction.
It was you.
The shock of seeing you, the very person she thought she had just escaped, standing right in front of her, sent a fresh wave of terror coursing through her. "No! Get away from me!" Julie screamed again, her voice cracking as she staggered back, her eyes wide with fear. The panic in her voice echoed through the paddock, drawing even more attention as people turned to see what was happening.
You stood there, frozen in shock, your eyes locking with hers. You hadn’t done anything—you were just walking past as a guest of Mercedes, on your way to their hospitality area. But the intensity of Julie’s reaction left you momentarily speechless.
"Julie!" Lando’s voice cut through the chaos as he rushed over, his concern etched on his face. He reached out for her, but Julie was already spinning around, desperate to escape. She shoved past him and the onlookers, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she ran, trying to get away from the ghost she believed was haunting her.
As Julie disappeared into the crowd, the paddock buzzed with murmurs and confused glances. The cameras that had been trained on Lando’s celebratory moment now captured a scene of utter chaos and confusion.
Lando looked up, his eyes meeting yours across the paddock. His face was a mix of confusion, concern, and something else—something that told you this was far from over.
You quickly averted your gaze, turning away before you could get caught up in the drama that was unfolding. But as you walked away, you couldn’t help but feel the weight of what had just happened, and the realization that some things, no matter how much time passes, are never truly left behind.
Please don’t steal my work, much love ᥣ𐭩

Hai it’s me again (pls lmk if I’m bothering you)
fic ideas (YESSS 2);
-Schlatt’s episode of intern except fem!reader is also there and Schlatt encourages the kids to throw stuffed animals at Kaitlyn
-Ted invited Schlatt and fem!reader to a Halloween party and they dressed up as Morticia and Gomez Addams
ALL HALLOWS EVE !!
Tumblr media
description: you might as well win best couples costumes right then and there.
a/n: i chose the second one, hope you don't mind !!
Tumblr media
The invitation to Ted’s Halloween party came two weeks before the actual party and, of course, you and Schlatt RSVP'd.
The two of you were in LA for a month, filming with a bunch of creators for videos, and since you were already in Ted’s new home turf; why not go to his Halloween party?
The two weeks were spent pacing around your Airbnb's living room, trying to figure out who you were going to dress up as, while Schlatt worked on replying to work emails and laughing at the occasional Gibbon TikToks.
Barbie and Ken? Eh, most couples you knew were going to dress up as them anyway. Jack Skellington and Sally? It got a vote from you, but Schlatt vetoed it with the reasoning of not wanting to wear face paint all night. Bojack Horseman and Princess Carolyn? Maybe next year.
With each veto for costumes you scoured through the internet, you two finally settled on - probably - one of the most iconic couples in movie and TV show history: Morticia and Gomez Addams. You chided internally at yourself on how you didn’t think of them in the first place.
The party was chill - as chill as it can be with a bunch of content creators - and the music was definitely from the top hits of some year that Ted randomly pulled up. You didn’t mind though, he had good taste in music. Schlatt was across the room, nursing some drink he concocted from the drinks table and you carefully moved through people, exchanging small greetings before you stood beside him. “Well, hello there, handsome.”
Schlatt looked down at you, playfully scoffing as he nudged an elbow at you. “Havin’ fun?”
You gave him a slight shrug, “Absolutely. I’ll have to pay Ted some compliments before we leave.”
“Already thinkin’ ‘bout leavin’?”
“You know what I mean!”
Schlatt let out a laugh and adjusted his tie with one hand. “It’s a good party. Ted has outdone himself once again.” You nodded at his words and returned to looking over to groups of people engaged in conversation. “You know, you look good as Gomez,” you wondered out loud, seeing him smile out of the corner of your eye. “You should definitely wear suits more often.”
“I’ll keep that in mind, toots.” Schlatt sipped his drink once more, looking over at you in your Morticia costume. “You look hot like that, by the way.”
You flushed at his words, heat creeping up your face as you gave him a smile. “Thanks.”
The rest of the night was spent talking to your friends and other creators, exchanging socials and promises to see each other at the next event or convention. You and Schlatt both got compliments on your couples costume and you beamed at the compliments. The night ended with you and Schlatt helping Ted clean up, stuffing empty plastic cups into trash bags and carrying them out while you happily talked about the decorations and party with Ted.
It was a fun night.

Happy 600th birthday! Per molts anys!
Tumblr media
Giants are one of the most iconic figures in Catalan culture. Each town, city, or neighbourhood has their own couple of giant hollow figures that usually represent the mythical founders of the town or characters from local legends. People join the group to carry them and make them spin and dance on the streets on the days of local festivities, to the sound of live traditional Catalan festive music.
Giants don't exist only in Catalan culture, they're also present in other parts of Western Europe like Belgium, France, Portugal, Sicily, Southern Italy, the Basque Country, and some parts of Aragon and Castilla (Spain).
But this year, we are celebrating: the earliest ever written document anywhere in the world that mentions a giant figure dates from 1424 and talks about the Barcelona giants that danced in the Corpus festivity. This assures us that giants have been part of Barcelona's festivities for at least 600 years. Then, the giants were King David and the Giant (characters from the Bible), but with time they changed a bit and by the 1500s they were a king and a queen, who came to be identified with the king James I and the queen Violant of Hungary, the most iconic and important monarchs in Catalan history.
However, since they symbolise people from Catalan history, the giants were repressed by the Spanish fascist dictatorships of Primo de Rivera and Francisco Franco. These regimes had the aim of exterminating Catalan culture. They banned and persecuted the Catalan language and identity and many cultural celebrations of Catalan people, such as banning some songs and holidays. For this reason, the giants were forced to be renamed Isabella and Ferdinand and pretend like they represented the Catholic Kings, two key figures of Spanish history. When the dictatorship ended, they became Jaume I and Violant again.
The figures of the Barcelona city giants used nowadays aren't the same ones as 600 years ago, of course. The figures get copied into new ones when it's necessary. The ones used now were made in 1991 copying the previous figures, made in 1921.
Giants are adored by kids, and the Barcelona city male giant (gegant de la Ciutat) and the giant from Santa Maria del Pi parish of Barcelona (gegant del Pi) are also the main characters of one of the most popular traditional children's songs in Catalonia.
We love to see them continue being as popular as ever. Yesterday, they celebrated their anniversary with a meeting of giants from all the neighbourhoods of Barcelona and well as from other cities and towns. More than 600 giants gathered in Barcelona to dance together for the Barcelona city giants anniversary!

Movie Musical Divas Tournament: Round 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Angela Lansbury (1925-2022): Em in The Harvey Girls (1946) | Eglantine Price in Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) | Ruth in Pirates of Penzance (1983) | Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd (1982) | London Speciality in Till the Clouds Roll By (1946) | Mrs. Claus in Mrs. Santa Claus (1996)
"The patron saint of girls and young women labeled character actors at a young age, there are few people in the history of cinema who can claim a career as long and iconic as Angela Lansbury’s. Despite near constant sidelining and regularly being cast to play characters decades older than her, she managed to create a resume full of iconic characters and performances. In addition, she used her star power to advocate for AIDS research while it was still a taboo subject, as well as create roles for older actors to help them stay afloat." - anonymous
Eartha Kitt (1927-2008): New Faces (1954, Miss Kitt) | St Louis Blues (1958, Gogo Germaine)
"YES! Even though she faced bewildering amounts of Hollywood racism, the winner of the Hot & Vintage Movie Women Tournament DID manage to do a couple of movie musicals: New Faces, a fluffy backstage-hijinks thing in which she plays her classic chanteuse persona and is even addressed as "Miss Kitt", and St Louis Blues, a musical biopic in which she sings alongside a bunch of other jazz greats. Neither of the films is considered a masterpiece, but Eartha is as scorchingly hot as always, and demonstrates that she could have become a legend in movie musicals if the roles had been there for her. In short, vote for Eartha Kitt because (1) she has JUST ENOUGH credits to count as a movie musical diva, (2) think of all the other Eartha Kitt movie musicals we COULD have had if not for racism, and (3) she's Eartha Kitt, certifiably the hottest old movie woman. Please and thank you." - anonymous
This is Round 4 of the Movie Musical Divas tournament. Additional polls in this round may be found by searching #mmround4, or by clicking the link below. Add your propaganda and support by reblogging this post.
ADDITIONAL PROPAGANDA AND MEDIA UNDER CUT: ALL POLLS HERE
Angela Lansbury:
"Because of Sondheim's continued insistance on making his musicals as accessibly viewable as possible, we have the glorious Sweeney Todd proshot that captures Angela Lansbury's career-defining performance as Mrs. Lovett. Many have followed. None of have baked a better pie." - anonymous
"Angela Lansbury lost the Emmy eighteen times. Don't let her lose again. She deserves this as one of our most beloved gay icons. She is happiness personified and the world is dimmer without her." - anonymous

Favorite Movies of 2024
The Zone of Interest (2023)
First theatrical movie of this year and damn...this movie is an experience. Set during WWII, the movie follows the family of the Commandant of Auschwitz, while they live in the house next to the death camp. It is a way of looking at that time in history I don't think we've ever seen before...by not looking at it. We never see inside the camp, or witness any of the horrors that took place. But we see the Commandant's wife (played by the fantastic Sandra Huller) try on a new fur coat, or hand out clothing to her servants, and know exactly where they came from. We hear trains arriving as the children play in the yard. It is a very effective piece of filmmaking and a film I think everyone should see.
Tumblr media
Don't Look Now (1973)
A fascinating look at grief and how it can differently affect people. After a couple (Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland) lose their daughter in an accident, they temporarily move to Venice while the husband is working. And slowly process the loss in different ways. Laura slowly finds some semblance of peace after speaking with a psychic, while John tends to bury his feelings and dismiss the spirituality his wife has embraced. This movie almost feels like a dream, with surreal moments sprinkled throughout where you start to wonder if John is losing his mind or if there is some sort of weird conspiracy or con set up by the aforementioned psychic. But if you think you know the answer...you're probably wrong, as this movie goes in such an unexpected direction with an ending that is both shocking and heartbreaking.
Tumblr media
The Holdovers (2023)
I did not expect to like this movie as much as I did. Newer comedies don't tend to work for me...but what we have here is something that is timeless. I watched it again at the end of the year and I think I liked it more the second time around. Focusing on a teacher at a boarding school (played by Paul Giamatti doing some of his best work) who is forced to stay on campus to look after the students who are not going home for winter break. What follows is a cross between The Odd Couple and Dead Poets Society, as teacher and student spend the next two weeks together. They are joined by the school's cook (played by Da'vine Joy Randolph, who won a well-deserved Oscar for the role), who recently lost her son in Vietnam. This movie is funny and clever, as well as both heartbreaking and heartwarming...a perfect movie for the Christmas season or any time of year!
Tumblr media
Lifeboat (1944)
This one had been on my list for a while, and I'm so glad I was finally able to see it! After a German submarine sinks their ship, several passengers take refuge in lone lifeboat and try to figure out how they can survive. This is by far Hitchcock's most claustrophobic film...there may be wide shots of the ocean, but that just makes the lifeboat that much smaller. Tensions rise pretty quickly, as you can imagine, but the dynamics between all the characters is very compelling. It's not an easy movie to find, but if it comes across your radar, it's one I would suggest checking out!
Tumblr media
The Crow (1994)
If I had to pick one favorite movie for the year, it would probably be this one. I'm actually disappointed it took me this long to watch this one, because it is so up my alley. After he and his fiancée are murdered, Eric Draven (the incredible Brandon Lee) returns from the dead to avenge the wrongful deaths. Everything about this movie is iconic: the aesthetic, the music, the performances...I could gush about this one for a while, so I'll just say this: Brandon Lee was an absolute star. His performance is so good, I cannot take my eyes off of him when he's onscreen.
Tumblr media
He Ran all the Way (1951)
While trying to add a few film noirs to my list, I came across this movie for free on YouTube and decided to give it a shot. After a payroll robbery goes wrong, Nick (played by John Garfield, in his last film) ends up taking refuge in the apartment of Peggy (Shelly Winters) and her family. John Garfield gives an excellent final performance in this film as a man who is in way over his head...he's someone who tries to be tough, but you can tell that it's really not who he is, but feels he has no choice but to go down that road. His dynamic with Shelly Winters is really interesting to watch, as you can tell she likes him, but is also trying to do the right thing to keep her parents and little brother safe. It's a really intimate story, as we spend about 3/4's of the movie in that apartment, and it seems to get smaller as Nick's paranoia starts to grow.
Tumblr media
Heretic (2024)
I really enjoyed this movie. If you're looking for a dialogue-heavy, tense movie with a small cast...this is for you! When two Morman missionaries enter the home of Mr. Reed (played by the excellent Hugh Grant), they think they are going to convert him to the LDS church, when in fact, he has something different in mind. When I say dialogue-heavy, I mean it...Hugh Grant has some looong monologues in this movie, and they are fascinating to watch...and the dialogue between him and his guest is both interesting to listen to, as well as being incredibly tense. You spend a lot of the runtime just trying to figure out what his game is...what is he really trying to do? And I did find myself figuring it out right around the same time as the characters, which to me, shows that it's a well-crafted and engaging story. I really want to see this one again, to see if knowing the ending changes the viewing experience.
Tumblr media
Wicked (2024)
I think this movie wins for being the most fun movie of the year. While potentially a bit too long, this movie is carried by the extraordinary performances of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. In telling "the untold story of the witches of Oz", these two created characters and a relationship that is so real and compelling, that audiences are mesmerized from start to finish. I've been a fan of this musical since the Broadway show opened in 2003 and I it was so wonderful seeing the story and songs brought to life on the big screen. And this film's production design? Outstanding. The dedication to creating a real world (rather than a digital one) for these characters to live in really touched my heart. It really felt like an old MGM musical for the modern age.
Tumblr media
The Red Shoes (1948)
Another movie that I was retroactively mad at myself for not watching sooner. I had seen bits and pieces over the years, but had never sat down to watch the entire thing from start to finish. Fortunately, I bought the Blu-Ray during the last Criterion Sale and gave it a watch! This movie is absolutely stunning to look at, with beautiful cinematography and gorgeous saturated colors. And the story of the ballet dancer who must decide between a "normal life" with the man she loves and a prestigious career in the ballet with the man who discovered her is so engrossing, even though I knew where the movie was heading. And the dance sequence is breathtaking. Even though you watch it knowing that there's no way this would actually happen in a real theater (impossible costume changes, a stage that is seemingly never ending), you don't care because the storytelling is impeccable.
Tumblr media
Nosferatu (2024)
And now we're at my final theatrical experience for the year! I don't know if I can put into words how good this movie is. I initially gave it an 8.5/10 after seeing it, but after thinking about it more, I'd probably rank it a bit higher. This really was a love letter to the horror fans who love the old, gothic movies...there was one short sequence that actually make me think of The Innocents and it made me so happy! And I appreciate that this movie did not rely on jump scares (though there were a few well-placed ones) but instead focused on the sense of dread and foreboding that fills both the characters and the city as Nosferatu draws near. Lily-Rose Depp gives an unbelievable performance as Ellen, the young woman with whom Nosferatu has fixated on...the physicality she brings to the role, as well as the raw emotion was very impressive. This one is still in theaters, and I think anyone who loves old horror movies needs to get their butt to the theater.

Aziraphale and Crowley - Nightingale Analogy
Tumblr media
After the second season, I started thinking of them both as if they were birds, specifically the Nightingale. Here's an analogy with scenes from Good Omens.
Symbolic Meaning of the Nightingale
The Nightingale is a charming bird, revered especially by artists, such as poets and writers who have been inspired by them and used them as symbols in their works throughout history and time. They are considered as a symbol of love and fidelity. This bird has inspired plays, songs, sonnets, folklore, poetry, stories, legend... It has cultural and mythological importance in various parts of the world. He is mentioned in several books that tell romantic, melancholic and tragic stories. Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman chose this particular bird to be part of the iconic story of Good Omens.
Tumblr media
Some examples of stories about our two Nightingales over time.
Tumblr media
When they met, they sang a millimetrically perfect melody on the same frequency, a song that only they could understand. A tune full of feelings, sensations and connections between two creatures. It brought harmony and meaning for them to stay together.
Color Detail
The Nightingale's plumage predominates in discreet brown and brown tones, with slight RED shades. Your chest is more GRAY in tone, with RED or WHITE tones.
Tumblr media
The Power of The Voice
This bird plays an important role in the ecology of the region in which it lives. The sound produced by the Nightingale can help regulate the population of insects and other animals that are part of the food chain. Crowley and Aziraphale are guardians of the land and together they played an important role in keeping it safe. Maintaining balance is essential.
Tumblr media
They are Territorial
They are very territorial and become even more so during mating season. They respond more aggressively to others who enter their territory, as they want to protect their love nest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Musical Richness of Nightingale’s Song
This bird's musical repertoire includes 260 sequences. His song has a double function: Seduction and defense of the territory. The Nightingale's serenade begins at dusk, continues through the night, and lasts through the early hours of the morning until dawn. It is possible that he sings during the day, even though this behavior is not that common. The most physically vigorous birds are also those with the greatest musical repertoire. Some sequences are sung just for your reciprocated love :
Tumblr media
While other sequences only serve to impose yourself against other rivals :
Tumblr media
When a Nightingale hears its partner singing, it becomes very active, attracted by the unique and special sensitivity of this melody :
Tumblr media
Crowley moves, fascinated by Aziraphale's singing.
The most impressive thing about this bird is its musical repertoire. The Nightingale is capable of singing for hours without repeating the same sequence once.
Tumblr media
Crowley and Aziraphale know several languages. Aziraphale *sings* Nightingale in French.
The Nightingale's song reveals a remarkable delicacy and great power. In its vocal production, cheerful and lively sounds predominate, combined with a strong whistle, a strong whistle to attract.
Tumblr media
Crowley makes a loud whistle to attract Aziraphale's attention.
Serenade of Love
After a lot of harmonious song between a Nightingale couple, it's time for the mating ritual and one of them always has the task of building the love nest. In the case of our Nightingales, romantic gestures to develop the relationship always happen.
Tumblr media
The construction of the love nest is done with great care and care.
This ritual takes place at night and consists of beautiful love melodies, like the music that plays at the ball. While one Nightingale makes a special vocalization for the occasion, the other feels attraction and moves a lot (dances) and vice versa. Aziraphale chose Crowley and Crowley chose Aziraphale. The two have always been each other's ideal match.
Tumblr media
The ball dance is the ritual of these Nightingales.
Predators
Although Nightingales are discreet, their song always reveals where they live, which is dangerous, as it attracts predators who want to capture them.
Tumblr media
When frightened, the Nightingale uses its song to communicate sensations and threats, warning other Nightingales of danger. Our two Nightingales are threatened. Nightingale Aziraphale needs to alert his companion of this ambush.
Nightingales are capable of emitting very complex melodies, so complex that they are still of interest to ornithologists in studies. The mixture of different songs caused communication between Nightingale Aziraphale and Nightingale Crowley to become disconnected. The warning song gives way to the melodious and sad song.
Tumblr media
The Nightingale Aziraphale tried to warn of danger.
Tumblr media
Nightingale Crowley also tried to warn of danger.
After singing intensely to Nightingale Aziraphale, Nightingale Crowley's voice becomes weak and the song that follows is filled with suffering. In his last hope, he gives one last trill. He tried to protect their territory, but was unsuccessful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Last Trill of the Nightingale Crowley.
In the end, without strength, Nightingale Aziraphale's voice tried one last song. He wished the fairest of all for Nightingale Crowley, but he didn't get it. Pain hit him in the chest, closing his throat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the series, the band of Nightingales was already in the process of migrating, moving forward in search of warmer areas. In the posters for the second season, you can see them leaving.
Tumblr media
The Nightingale flock heads off to migrate. The Nightingale Aziraphale also goes to heaven, but a place that is not his home.
I'm aware of what Neil Gaiman mentioned about Rouxninol's singing on Tumblr, but I chose to ignore what he said. Seriously, that's clearly a bird's chirp. And thank you to the person who managed to hear a bird singing in the scene and informed the fandom of this information. Whatever it was, it was a bird call. Yes, I may be crazy for believing this, but I'm not the only one, other people also believe it's a bird's song.
The Nightingale, who had sung in the book and at the end of the first season, for me, who is writing this analogy, also reappears in the second season, even if in a more discreet way, with an almost imperceptible and low voice. What's really impressive is that we can hear him, when the camera focuses on Aziraphale's face, who is holding back crying with his mouth slightly open, trying to emit something, or was it the Nightingale Aziraphale who made this song?
Tumblr media
The predator achieved its goal. He separated and silenced the birdsong.
Tumblr media
Nightingale Aziraphale was captured and transported to heaven in a box. A sky without any freedom, a totally inhospitable place, outside of its natural habitat
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Nightingale Crowley, at the slightest sign of distress, quickly flew in search of shelter to protect himself from the pain.
Tumblr media
One of the peculiarities of Nightingales is that they are loyal birds and do not adapt well when isolated from their companions.
They were the last nightingales to leave and unfortunately painfully separated, which makes part of this romantic story in Anguish. And this fits the meaning and symbolism of the Nightingale bird for writers.
In season 3:
“They’re not talking to each other.” = They are not singing.
Although they are separated, the singing is still present. A single song and many memories. “A Ninghtgale Sang in Berkeley Square” has a heart-like vibration within them. This music resonates in them, like a charged wave of energy that surrounds them and tunes them to each other, a vibration so powerful that it connects them to "us".
I am faithful to the theory that Aziraphale sent the song to Bentley for Crowley to listen to, as he also remembers and will never forget the memorable moments between them.
Tumblr media
"A nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" is the song they can understand, the melody made sublime.
There is nothing that lasts forever, not even the pain of separation. The Nightingale bird's migration is temporary and on this journey they always return. The gang is always faithful to its place of origin.
In this way, in a flock, the nightingales Crowley and Aziraphale will meet and begin the freedom they so desire. The power of their song will be ineffable, allowing them together to destroy cages, traps and predators. Bringing harmony to their world.
In the end, Nightingale Crowley and Nightingale Aziraohale will flap their wings and fly together in synchronization, dancing in new airs, until they land on an apple tree branch, which is in a beautiful garden and there they will build a new nest. They will sing in a divine way, while exchanging vows of love, in a beautiful sunset.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Nightingale flock will be noisy for them on the South Downs.
Tumblr media
I had a lot of fun writing this analogy and I hope you like it too. English is not my mother tongue, sorry for any spelling mistakes. Thank you if you made it this far. :)

-Portrait of Lady Aimée Artois, 1860.-
Aimée Isabelle Henriette Cotoner (Née Artois) was a French Philantropist, Socialite, Musician and Fashion Icon of the Spanish and French Courts in the 19th Century.
.
The youngest daughter of Frederic Alphonse D'Artois , Comte d'Eu and his wife, Marie Johanna von Lamberg. Being the granddaughter of Charles Ferdinand D'Artois, Duke of Berry and great-granddaughter of Charles X of France.
.
Born in 1830, the very year of the July Monarchy and the incredibly political tension in her country and her family. Aimée, despite being descendent of an Absolutist Monarchy Family, had her father and mother being much more alliegned with a Constitutional Monarchy, which made them eventually become allies to the French and Austrian Brotherhoods of Assassins.
.
Born and raised in Eu, Normandy. She was kept away from the chaos of the court most of her life. Receiving the best education her father could provide, she grew up to be a refined, eloquent and clever young woman. A lover of the arts and it's many forms.
.
Although her family's political connections to the Brotherhood, Aimée never showed interest in taking part in such business. Fearing what the connection between this other secret society could bring to her loved ones (Her family already have once being alliegned to the French Rite of the Templar Order), her worries would triple as her older sister, Félicité, married a Master Assassin of the Dutch Brotherhood and becamed an active ally to their cause.
.
She herself would dwell more into this world after being married to Carlos Rafael Cotoner y Moncada, Conde de Tortosa. Despite being arranged, love bloomed among the couple, that would go on and have five children, even if only two were born.
.
As the wife and mother of Spanish Master Assassins, her role in the Creed would fortify. The years spent among the Tenents would make her shape her world views to one closer to the Assassins, however, she never truly accepted or approved her husband and daughter's role in this. For she always lived afraid of loosing them in this secret war.
.
A loving mother, a caring wife, a noblewoman of the House of Bourbon, descendent of the very Capetian Dynasty, proud of her family and legacy... A woman who left her mark on history for her donations to charities and her work in the development of arts and music.

(info above sourced from setlist.fm)
As i’m penning this it’s currently the year is 2024, next year is 2025, and the year after that is 2026. Currently, AM have been a band for 22 years. They started playing at giggs live 21 years ago. They began performing their original songs practically 20 years ago. I BET YOU LOOK GOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR is gonna be 20 years old 17th October 2024. So this ongoing train of thought starting thus metaphorical ball running in my mind:
What if the AM are working on an AM 20th anniversary thing? To celebrate 20 years of still being a band and to celebrate two decades worth of fans, and remarkable once in AM-verse lifetime memories, and everything fabulous that came about because of AM forming 22 years ago? Maybe that’s the mysterious thing that they have been planning at?
If it is an AM anniversary thingy here’s a list of theories of what it could be if that ever is in the cards for our beloved Arctic Monkeys:
> An AM greatest hits album. With B-sides from TBHC & The Car. Sorta similar to AM Live at Royal Albert Hall album that dropped in 2020. Cause sure if it was a new album it would likely be reported already. Also during The Car Tour Alex would have wacky beautiful moments playing random stuff on the piano and making Alex sounds sometimes before playing: Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?
> An AM documentary. - AM photographer: Zachary Michael I think it is, has been seen tagging Alex Turner around in a number of Alex Turner recents post the finale of The Car Tour. What if that’s to get shots for the AM documentary?
> An AM book / photo album. Think Alexa Chung’s IT, but if it were AM recounting their career with lots of snapshots and stills of them over their career being fabulous? Also, I can so imagine physical photo album books are still Alex Turner’s thing. I say still because Alex Turner was born in 1986, so he probably grew up with the likes of physical photo albums years before digital camera roles came into place.
> Also for either of my documentary or photo album thing; what if the AM recents with Nick, Jamie, Alex etc have been teases to them visiting iconic AM hotspots / venues etc that AM became and are famous for and that they’ve lots of gratitude towards those locations for giving them that boost in their career/ E.g. Mojave Desert & New York City & Los Angeles where AM recorded Humbug / Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield UK where AM recorded some of their first ever songs at. / Vox Studios LA, La Frette Paris France where AM recorded Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino / The Grapes & Leadmill where they played they’re first ever gigs? -Jamie was spotted attending a concert in Yellow Arch Studios the other week for a Sheffield originating band.
> Strings added to AM songs. Think Glastonbury 2013 where’d AM had a whole orchestra add strings to Cornerstone and Mardy Bum. Exactly. Also, think back to the last four The Car Tour gigs. AM played in Ireland all 4 days with James Ford and an orchestra doing strings on a few songs. What if those four last gigs were the foreshadowing / prelude of Alex’s and AM’s big ideas of what's to come?
Also, Alex isn't seen much public-wise these days at all. If he’s working on an Anniversary thingy it would make so much perfect sense for his ‘hibernation’ / disappearance. Whatever you wanna call it. What if he’s just hardcore hyper focused on getting that right if that is what him and the band are working on?
Another wild thought I have: What if AM bring back songs in the Anniversary thing from Beneath The Boardwalk etc like songs that we’ve never heard the light of day of yet??!!
Thanks @misskattylashes your help and contribution 😘

Chicago House Playlist
Alright, folks, here's something that's been a long time coming: a playlist of house tunes that came from the city that gave birth to the global phenomenon in the first place, and also kickstarted the whole evolution of electronic dance music as we currently know it. When house music began, most dancefloors had moved on from disco to a mishmash of post-disco, boogie, hi-NRG, dance-pop, synthy funk, electro, freestyle, and a whole lot of other stuff, but there was something different that started to brew itself into a movement during the mid-1980s among a predominantly black, gay crowd in the city where disco had first been symbolically murdered in 1979.
And eventually, it became known as house music, named after both The Warehouse, the place that the genre's godfather, Frankie Knuckles, would have residency, and the posters that would be hung up to advertise the venue's events, which referred to 'house parties' and 'house music.' The Warehouse would open up in the late 70s and close in the early 80s, but in 1983, Frankie would open up his own club, The Power House, which would then change its name to the Power Plant, and then change its name again to The Music Box, after another legendary house DJ, Ron Hardy, would take up residency there.
So, a lot of this playlist channels the greatness of some of those halcyon Chicago house days. And so much of it is just pure, primordial dance music bliss; lighthearted, unserious, super fun, revolutionary grooves. There was an amateurishness to a lot of it back then that gave it a significant level of goofy charm, and that's something that seems to have gotten mostly left behind as the music continued to grow into the 90s. Songs like "Move Your Body," by Marshall Jefferson, which opened with this rich and clanging, jauntily unpolished piano rag of sorts, was so infectious, and Curtis McClain's plainly bad, but passionate singing voice that would follow that iconic intro couldn't help but be adored too. And the song on this playlist that currently comes after that one, "Love Can't Turn Around," by Farley "Jackmaster" Funk & Jesse Saunders, is in much the same vein, as featured vocalist Darryl Pandy goes over-the-top berserk to start his second verse, making for another song that you really just can't resist đŸ„°.
Another total favorite of mine on here is one that was produced by Frankie Knuckles himself: "Let the Music Use You," by the Night Writers, which is a near-eight minute masterpiece that has a divine, string-pad-and-bell-laden beat that immediately shows you why Frankie was revered as such a master of his own craft. And that beat gets paired beautifully with Ricky Dillard's soft and tender, heartfelt vocals too.
And then there's Kevin Irving's "Children of the Night," which features his excellent, soulful voice on a beat that combines string pads with prickly electro stabs, and was made by Larry Sherman, the founder of the most important label in the history of Chicago house itself, Trax Records, which has also caught a lot of flak over the years for its shady business practices.
A couple more notes: first, be forewarned that the track that starts this playlist is another tremendous classic, "Mind Games," by Quest— which features the voice of Liz Torres and some great and dreamy freestyle-type synth work—but even though it's on Spotify, it is, unfortunately, pretty damn scratchy. Luckily, I was able to include a much cleaner version on the YouTube version of this playlist, though 😊. And second, I like to keep these playlists as chronologically ordered as possible, but I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out when Screamin' Rachael's "Bip Bop" was actually made. It has an aggressive male rap vocal on it that's reminiscent of Turbo B's on Snap!'s "The Power," so it could be from that early 90s period, but I really don't know. So I just put it at the end, where it will stay until I one day possibly figure out when it was actually created.
This playlist is ordered as chronologically as possible and links are provided below to songs that have been posted about previously in order to give them more context:
Quest - "Mind Games" Marshall Jefferson - "Move Your Body" Farley "Jackmaster" Funk & Jesse Saunders - "Love Can't Turn Around" On the House - "Pleasure Control" Housemaster Boyz - "House Nation" Ralphi Rosario - "You Used to Hold Me" Night Writers - "Let the Music Use You" Dalis - "Rock Steady" Kevin Irving - "Children of the Night" Bam Bam - "Where's Your Child?" Paul Johnson - "3rd Dimension (Remixed by Armando)" Screamin' Rachael - "Bip Bop"
And while there are some incredible moments in that Spotify playlist, I still have way more Chicago house music to show you in the YouTube version. Some tracks that stand out in this bonus crop are the first one, the silly and campy "Undercover," by Doctor Derelict, which has about 3,500 plays on YouTube across a couple uploads; another one from Frankie Knuckles, which is a rare remix of his very popular "Baby Wants to Ride" that has ~31.6K plays, and features some political opining from vocalist Jamie Principle, and even a detouring interpolation of "America the Beautiful" in its second half (😆); and then one from a later era of Chicago—'99, to be exact—called "Testing & Balancing," by Jimminy Cricket, aka James Curd, that has around 170 plays and liberally samples from Al Green's soul classic, "Love & Happiness."
Doctor Derelict - "Undercover" Jungle Wonz - "The Jungle" Steve "Silk" Hurley - "House Beat Box" On the House - "Ride the Rhythm"Libra Libra - "I Like It" Paris Grey - "Don't Make Me Jack" Liz Torres - "Can't Get Enough" Frankie Knuckles - "Baby Wants to Ride" On the House - "Let's Get Busy" Mister Lee - "Come to House" Jimminy Cricket - "Testing & Balancing"
And this playlist is also on YouTube Music.
So, with the Spotify version of this playlist, we currently have 12 songs that total an hour and 16 minutes, and with YouTube, we're at 23 songs that total 2 hours and 24 minutes. Clearly, there are a whole lot more goodies in that YouTube one.
And if you want a Chicago house playlist that's a bit shorter, I have one that's made of stuff that's solely from the 80s too.
1980s Chicago House: Spotify / YouTube / YouTube Music
Enjoy!
More to come, eventually. Stay tuned!

Roots under Beale: The Significance of Beale Street to Memphis Hoodoo History
In the late 1800s, Robert Church, the first African-American millionaire in the South took great interest in Beale Street. After purchasing land on Beale, Church built Church Park and Auditorium exclusively for black Memphians. He also created a recreational center and an upscale hotel. Beale Street was very important to African American life in Memphis as Church wanted to create a safe haven for black Memphians where African American food, music and entertainment could be celebrated.
A community of healers, conjurers and rootworkers began to develop on Beale. Memphians knew that you could visit the right store or juke joint and find someone with the ‘gift’ to provide magical and spiritual help. Beale Street musicians like W.C. Handy began to speak of the hoodoo culture through the lyrics of their songs. Blues singer Lillie Mae Glover known as ‘Ma Rainey II’ became popular on Beale Street as not only a performer but also a conjurer. She would perform rituals and various spiritual workings for other performers on Beale, as well as random customers who knew to seek her out. One of her special abilities was the ability to make mojo hands for blues musicians. While many hands were traditionally made using roots, lodestone and a red flannel bag, Lillie Mae made hers using common ingredients like sugar, flour and a heap of coal.
It became evident that hoodoo was being practiced in downtown Memphis much to the dislike of the white community. Hoodoo and any African based religious practices were compared to savage paganism that threatened the wives and children of the white community of Memphis. Local police were put on alert regarding the threat of hoodoo and ‘voodooism’ as it was commonly referred to.
The Memphis Press-Scimitar reported:
‘The Voodoo business still thrives on Beale Street. Police, looking for a witch
doctor yesterday confiscated a half a sack full of “Stay Away Powder,”
“Easy Life Powder” and “Spanish Luck Drops” being sold to negroes at
25 cents a set. The “Stay Away” powder, supposed to jinx a love rival,
proved to be nothing stronger than flour. “Easy Life” powder appeared to
be a fine grade of ground clay. “Spanish Luck Drops” were more potent.
They were a cheap but stout perfume. All in all, police figured the 25-cent
collection cost the producers not more than a couple of cents.’
Tumblr media
Raids on rootworkers and conjurers were quite common in the city. There is record of a number of arrests where hoodoo devotees were arrested and artifacts such as mojo bags and amulets were confiscated and in some cases destroyed in the presence of practitioners. Hoodoo was not only feared but represented empowerment for the black community, something that the times simply would not allow.
The development of a hoodoo community on Beale Street gained the notoriety of the title ‘The Black Magic District’ as many Memphians knew that one could obtain a cleansing, a black cat bone or guidance from the ancestors by visiting the right individual on Beale. In the 1940s gold miners would visit Beale Street looking for conjurers to help them spiritually locate treasure along the Mississippi River. The rising number of Memphians using Beale Street’s healers as a form of healthcare caused some Memphis physicians to become critical and voice offense against the community’s rootworkers. However as writer Keith Wailoo in has noted “Those who invoked spirits to relieve one’s rheumatism or to subdue one’s enemies would not be driven easily from the Bluff city.” Hoodoo was here to stay.
Tumblr media
In 1876, Jewish immigrant Abraham Schwab opened one of Memphis’s most iconic businesses on Beale Street. A. Schwab began as a dry goods store offering everything from cloth overalls to blues records. Years later the store began to carry a number of hoodoo related curios. In fact at one point the store was literally bringing in shipments of over one hundred and twenty tons of hoodoo related candles. The hoodoo community in Memphis would purchase oils, candles, incense and roots from the oldest store on Beale. One of my earliest exposures to hoodoo curios came when as a child I was taken into Schwab by my parents. I remember the scent of incense and the colorful collection of candles and curios. It was a wonderland to the senses.
During the writing of A Secret History of Memphis Hoodoo: Rootworkers, Conjurers and Spirituals, I was given the opportunity to visit the store’s archives and see some of the remnants of hoodoo curios and artifacts. A number of old curios from Memphis based companies like ‘LaClyde Lucky Products’ and ‘Lucky Heart Cosmetics’ were preserved in pristine condition saved for their historical preservation. Boxes of dried rattlesnake root, John the Conqueror and assorted herbs could still be found. A member of the Schwab family shared stories of hoodoo practitioners throughout the years and the many testimonies and stories of customers from the conjure community.
These are but a few of the numerous stories about rootworkers and conjurers on Beale Street that were instrumental in the history of hoodoo in Memphis. The history of hoodoo in Memphis is a story of cultural survival that needs to be told.

Descendants we meet again
So yesterday I watched Descendants The Rise of Red twice and it's not great but surprisingly entertaining I can't explain it
Starting with the good stuff, I liked the songs they don't go as hard or iconic as the first movies but they're good I've been listening to the soundtrack nonstop, I liked Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts how she portrayed being an tyrannical ruler, an abusive mother and a hurt resentful person she was the one who surprised me the most honestly (her outfits and makeup 10 outta 10) , Bringing back Brandy and Paolo Montalban as Cinderella and Prince Charming was such a great idea and their scenes where so nice,I did like our main leads and their story arcs specially Chloe's they finally give a kid of a hero something, Bridget was adorable, I love her she was so sweet and deserved better and last but not least I did like Cameron Boyce's tribute it was sweet and heartfelt and sad that Carlos's also gone in the descendants world.
And nooooow to the bad stuff oh boy.
Visual effects mediocre like always in this franchise come on Disney you can throw a couple of bucks to the budget you have the money, so the story and logic in this movie is whack and makes no sense I won't repeat them here but if you seen any reaction or review you know that there are several plot holes in the conclusion of the story, what was the point of introducing all these younger versions of the villains of they are not gonna do anything with them??? The only one who gets a modicum of depth was Uliana and even then her motives are just laughable when she was the cause of her own humiliation. (Also the level of disrespect they do to Maleficent's character being a lackey to a lesser known villain like what happened to her being the most evil villain?!?)
They bring back Uma and she only gets like less than 10 minutes of screen time I was excited to see her as the principal
Why do the heroes and their kids now have colored hair?!? I only thought that the VK got the anime treatment and it doesn't work on them, like what was that random blue streak on Prince Charming (me and my cousin were laughing when we noticed it), younger Ella's hair was just tragic and they had a lot of inconsistencies with the volume of Chloe's hair.
Couldn't we get a flashback to the infamous prank I wanted to see it so badly, could have been like Carrie made us understood better Bridget's turn to evil and how she stopped being friends with Ella.
This movie out of nowhere ends like the pacing was good and with the buildup of castle coming you think the main characters are gonna be in it and see history change but nope they go back to their time and everything is good like what?
It feels like they ran out of budget while making this and had to hastily do some rewrites to the ending so they can have a movie.
Even though this movie has many many many issues I had a good time, it was entertaining I was jammin to the music, the characters were good (well the main ones at least) but the story was so so bad it has potential and like any descendants it ain't the end so hope they learned their mistakes for the sequel or bring back Kenny Ortega.
Can't rate this movie it has me so dumbfounded by how bad it is but at the same time how much I enjoyed it maybe because I have a soft spot for Wonderland who knows.

The joker out pride project.
This frog is important for today's chapter. Also on ao3.
Tumblr media
June 23rd, prompt 13. Cottage core lesbians.
It’s starting to become rare for them to have this many free days in a row. They have a full five days without concerts that are going to be spent resting. But it’s good to not have many days off too, that's all they’ve ever wanted. Kris remembers the first time they met as Joker Out. Bojan had been talking about how they were going to be the biggest band in Slovenian history and how they were going to go on world tours. Later, Jan had told Kris that they would be extremely lucky if they got to tour in the balkans.
But now, they’re on a good way to fulfill Bojan’s dream. A European tour is coming up, they even have the most streamed song in thev Slovene language. They are definitely on the way up. But Kris isn’t going to think to much about that now. He’s going to think about resting. He’s also going to think about how good Bojan looks in the morning. The guy hasn’t even put in any effort. He’s just sitting there at the kitchen table, wearing only boxers, and is scrolling through his phone. He still looks really good.
“They’re calling you a lesbian icon on twitter again” Bojan says out of nowhere, sounding a bit amused. It does feel a bit weird being called that by fans. But it’s fine. They don’t know about the trans thing. “We would have made a great lesbian couple” Bojan continues.
“Oh, is that so? Would it be different from our gay relationship?” Kris asks.
“Yes, of course it would. Most obvious difference would be me having a vagina and you still having boobs. And we would probably live a different lifestyle. Maybe we would be cottage core”.
“Cottage core? What’s that?”
“It’s when you live in a cottage in the forrest and you have a little garden with tomatoes and cucumbers and stuff. We would also have chickens and a cat”.
“That sounds nice. Is there anything else we would have?” Kris asks as he sits down opposite Bojan.
“Yes. We would have apple trees and grow strawberries. I would probably have an obsession with frogs and you would have one for those red and white mushrooms”. This makes Kris chuckle a little.
“Why those obsessions, can’t I have one for music instead?” he asks.
“No you can’t, music isn’t cottage core! Frogs and mushrooms are tough, and since you’re dutch you get the ‘shrooms obsession” Bojan explains. This makes Kris laugh even more, but he decides not to argue the matter. Instead he changes the subject.
“Okay, well. How do we get meat, do we have to kill the chickens?”.
“Only when they’re old. For other meat, and for the things we can’t grow, we can go on our bikes to a nearby farm or organic market. We also take our bikes to a nearby lake where we swim naked. Swimsuits aren’t cottage core either I think” Bojan answers.
“It sounds really nice. Maybe it’ll be our backup plan if no one comes to our concerts”. Kris isn’t completely serious, but it sound like being this cottage core thing isn’t too bad. There’s only one problem with it. “We could live like that, as long as you’re not making me de-transition. I would hate that”.
"I know you would. I would never make you do that" Bojan answers.
When Kris comes back to Bojan's apartment after visiting his parents a couple of days later, the singer isn't home. On the living room table, Kris finds a note and a package. The note reads 'I'm out getting us dinner. In the package is a gift for my cottage core lesbian boyfriend. Love you'. Kris smiles at the note and the opens the package. Inside is a frog plushie wearing a red and white mushroom as a hat. It might be one of the best gifts Kris has ever gotten, and it is definitely coming with him on the tour.
