Obviously, narratively, it was all planned, but the thing about the bad timing trope is that Byler was almost Jopper. And they sorta thought they might be to. The one with the martyr lover healing from grief and learning to find love again in their best friend.
But imagine if Bob came back to life at the end of season 3, right after Joyce asked Hopper out. No one would be mad if Bob came back to life. Someone we love coming back to life is good. That's how Mike feels, of course it is. That's how Joyce would feel too. But... There's a "but". If we hadn't known El was alive, that's what it would feel like. That's what it was for them. That's exactly what it was.
No one could fault Joyce for moving on after a year of grieving. No one can fault Mike either. When it's Joyce, her eight months is a long time, long enough. When it's Mike, his year is barely anything and he should just keep holding on. But holding on like that isn't healthy. And no one can fault him.
They held out for a year, still grieving, then in the week we saw them, their arc was to overcome that grief in shifted their attentions to the person who had been supporting them and being able to find love again in them. That was Mike's arc too. It was. Learning to love again after your last love died in front of you, sacrificing themself heroically. Now, after holding on a long time, you're learning to let go and heal so you can move on with your life; you're learning to love again. That's good. We're rooting for you.
Then "Bob" comes back. And that reunion scene would be beautiful. You know that it would. But you also know that the inner monologue would be complicated once the relief died down. And you also know that the following season would demonstrate the complications in the relationship that it left.

Him hanging up that radio on Halloween was healthy. We were sad because we knew she was alive. But him hanging up that radio was healthy, no matter how grateful he was to be wrong.

Revelation that the key to understanding Godzilla is that you must understand it is wrestling. It is wrestling. The good guy monsters like Godzilla, Anguirus, and Rodan are the Faces who you always root for because they’re YOUR GUYS. The bad guy monsters like Ghidorah and Gigan are the Heels who act like assholes and yell things like “it doesn’t matter what you think!”. The good humans like Miki and Serizawa and the Shobijin are the Jim Ross-style announcers and interviewers who comment on the match or chat with the wrestlers between fights. The bad humans and evil aliens are the corporate guys like Vince McMahon, and the giant robots like MechaGodzilla are what happens when they decide to get in the ring themselves. Rival kaiju/toku series like Gamera or Ultraman are rival wrestling companies and underground circuits. Baby Godzilla is Hornswoggle.
In this essay I will

A very minor and very down-on-their-luck deity (doesn't matter who, let's pick one for the sake of example - Cyamites, god of beans) living in the modern world uses the last of their powers to do some very minor miracle. A very tiny child who just loves superheroes happens to see this miracle, asks the deity if they're a superhero, and the deity, thinking this is probably the easiest answer, goes "...Yes. But don't tell anyone." And doesn't think anything else of it.
The next morning the deity wakes up and they're dressed as a superhero. They have one believer, and that believer believes with their whole heart that they're a superhero, so now they are.
(This isn't entirely bad, because the superheroics bring more believers and more powers, but it's very stressful because they were just the deity of beans before all this)

The US Needs Local Heroes and Monsters like Japan has.
Fight me.
Tumblr media
KitaQ Man, the local hero of Kitakyushu, a prefecture in Fukuoka
It's such a cool idea. You make a hero themed after your town's local industry, culture, or whatever, the local tourism board uses them to hype up the town, and the kids get a regional hero experience. The merch sales go toward local schools or infrastructure.
We already have this, sort-of, with the Mothman and Gritty, but it can go way further. Semi-related, I want to see these two fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And with digital media, you don't even need local TV to get your hero's exploits out there.
And this would be huge for nationwide tourism. Collecting spoons from all the states you've driven through is sweet, but imagine how fun it would be to pick up a local action figure?
It's all the local pride and merch sales of a sports mascot, but with none of the possibility that your team sucks, and even a small town can get a morph suit and some cosplay gear together for a local theater kid to tell kids about traffic safety.
Logistically, this would likely require a consulting or management company that could put together a character "package" for interested towns and industries, but as long as we keep Vince McMahon far away from it, it could be sweet.
C'mon local chamber of commerce, do something awesome for once.

I am chewing on your art like a powered up Pac-man. You've made me very interested in trying out a Kamen rider show. What's a good starting point?
:D! thank you! I will never NOT be happy to get people to watch more Kamen Rider, soon everyone will be converted and my evil plan will be complete. >:)
one of the nice things about Kamen Rider is that most of the shows are standalone and (aside from things like crossover movies) don't require watching any of the others to understand. so you can kinda just pick one that sounds interesting and try it out! I have a few personal recs in this post, or you can check out the wikipedia list (under Main Series)!
after some thought, I'm also gonna like...soft-rec Fourze and Gaim, with the caveat that they are not at all the typical Rider tone (Fourze has a much more cheerful and sillier style than usual, and Gaim is a rollercoaster ride through a bizarro fruit-themed weirdoland) (this is not a negative). they're pretty divisive because of that, but I know they've been a few other people's entry points, and I liked them both personally, so! Fourze's head writer also wrote Gurren Lagann, and Gaim's wrote Madoka Magica, and their respective styles are extremely evident in both, so if you're familiar with those then take that as a plus or minus as you will. :')
