The fact that scum villain is the book that gets picked on for being problematic is so funny on a fundamental level because Shen Yuan is quite literally the outside realistic beacon of morality. that's his whole character he has 21st century morals which gives him a reader insert (literally) insight into the events of the book .. like he was already condemning literally everything people say the book romanticizes , it's right there in the text , he's infodumping it to you every 2 pages
