I'm barely to the massacre and I can already tell I'm going to be screaming at every this-makes-no-sense decision made by the writers (your temple is under violent attack, and you evacuate the kids... to a barely enclosed corner in a prominent temple room? Instead of to the hundreds of sky bison that were highlighted as flying in earlier? Why?) (And Aang left to clear his head and think instead of to run from his duties? That's such a less compelling plot arc?) (And the show had him briefly monologue about being a goofy kid who loves pies and his friends instead of using the extended temple scene to show any of that? Didn't want to pay more child actors, did you, Netflix?)
Yeah I'm just. Going to be screaming at the screen instead of enjoying this. Different decisions aren't necessarily bad, but when those decisions seem to be in the direction of "show a man burning alive before we even get to the on-screen massacre" this is just... not the show for me.
#The original show emphasized the horror and sadness of the massacre by putting it in the context of people and culture lost#This one is going the Show People We Don't Know Burning Alive Clearly That Will Make More Of An Impression route#Gyatso's bones will always be the epitome of heart break#get out of here with your on-screen immolations just to demonstrate literally flashy cgi#Anyway someone tell me if the Omashu episode is worth watching in isolation I've seen gifs of Zuko getting brow-beat by Random Market Lady#And that DOES sound hilarious#But is the rest of the episode worth it or should I stick to gifs#This is like trying to decide if a barely-canon-divergent fanfic is worth slogging through#For its five fun new scenes#When the rest is just The Same As The Original But Worse#avatar the last airbender#atla#natla#netflix atla

Indie ttrpg designers
We seem to be back in the “dnd sucks why don’t you just play Other Games (yours)” and I have a single question for you in return
Do I get to roll a d20?
Because I like the d20
That shape pleases me
I do not wish to roll a random amount of d6s or d8s or any of them other fuckers
I wish to roll the d20 because icosahedrons please me
I will also accept d12 but the other shapes all have less mouthfeel so if that’s what your game’s based on, it is not for me
I’d also prefer more than four stats but I’m not gonna lie it is the shape of the math rocks so like
Rec your d20 based indie ttrpgs friends cuz every single one I’ve opened is them little cube fuckers or the double pyramid and I Require Round
#ttrpg#dnd#so many people so close to super good points about the problems with dnd#and then they go ‘and as an indie designer you should just play Other Games (mine)’#and like. it’s a good point. it also very clearly underlines that you’re marketing via negativity and i’d actually really rather just hear#how good your game is? complaining is not an access point to my wallet#for real tho rec list this shit#indie ttrpg#i have Math Rock Requirements and also i hate d10s for no discernable reason#i don’t like the rest as much but d10s man. i just. i hate em#they are Bad Shape#skinny tutu bitches#not even good for caltrops#xoxo fuck you d10s#i get the math for probability and shit is easier on smaller dice but have you considered:#d20 shape good#and also d20 easily maths into 100 for percent calculations#which is why it’s weird i hate d10s they’re the only other dice that don’t Fucking Suck to calculate percents from#i know a 13 on a d20 is 65% bad#the fuck is a 5 on a d8#(it’s 62.5 but that’s my point fuck decimals)

So I literally just started watching We Are today, but it’s been impossible to avoid some of the unfounded criticisms about it over the past few weeks where people are calling it a waste of time or not queer enough simply because it’s a fluffy romcom. Watching the series with that in mind, I found this conversation in the second episode particularly enlightening.
Sometimes you want a series that makes you think and sometimes you just want to watch something because it’s fun. The fantastic thing about Thai BL is that they give us both. If fluffy romances are not your thing, there are plenty of other options out there, but it’s important to remember, especially during Pride, that showing queer happiness on screen is just as important—if not more important—than showing queer struggles.
#we are the series#this is the same misogynistic bs romance writers have been dealing with for an eternity#despite being the most popular genre on the market it’s looked down on as frivolous#anyway i just found it funny that new is clearly aware of the criticism of his work and chose to address it in canon

i need to know the general consensus on this
#i have. thoughts. on the way the marketing is clearly pushing a sokeefe angle#one one hand it's what the people want and by pushing it shannon's team is clearly being strategic#on the other hand. can we PLEASE get back to the plot. this entire book doesn't need to be keefe simping over sophie#anyway. predictably my answer is “it is unabashedly atrocious”#kotlc#polls#keefe sencen#kotlc keefe

i knew making percy and annabeth have brief heart to hearts while grover was asleep in episode 3 was going to backfire miserably because it completely ruins the magic of the zoo truck scene…this is jumping the gun, but you’re telling me, ten years down the line when they make the mark of athena adaptation, it won’t include the infamous STABLES scene??what even is the point then. perhaps it’ll be somewhere else on the ship but that defeats the entire purpose of nostalgia and looking back and reminiscing about where they came from…rip my queue tag “i’ll be fighting next to queue”
#pjo#percy jackson#percabeth#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo tv show#LMAO i’m just complaining just to complain atp but THERES JUST TOO MUCH CHANGE#RICKALD RIORDAN STOP MARKETING THIS AS AN ADAPTATION WHEN ITS VERY CLEARLY A REWRITE CHALLENGE

Also, can we talk about magic? i suppose they wanted to make the game more luring to new players, but magic used to be rare, closed under the lock and feared. Mages were feared and cosidered dangerous. Tevinter was an execption, not a general rule. How come people forgot only ten years ealier there was a regular war between mages and chantry, the very reason Inquisition was formed? Why is there magic, anciet elven magic behin every corner? It feels like reboot.
"It feels like reboot"
Because it is a reboot 💀 Or at least, it's the first step towards one.
Explaining how magic is seen in Thedas, all the different opinions and fears and hopes people have about it, would have been impossible in a single game clearly aimed at luring new players in. They put all the major pieces of explanation in the codex (one part of it is filled and complete since from the start of the game, because it's basically a catalogue detailing everything about Thedas), and let you play as a mage to your heart's content, with no strings, no responsibilities attached.
They tried to preserve some logic in Minrathous - there's mention of how Tevinter's families try to breed the perfect mages to rise in power and influence, so that's good. But you also see a "Noble" mingling with a "Civilian" among the fishermen, and telling her she shouldn't waste time and money on making things better for the poor people. What the hell is she doing there, then? Why isn't she in Minrathous proper, drinking wine and looking down on the poor districts?
Just around every corner, a few feet away from the closest tavern, Venatori are constantly putting up blood magic barriers. The same in the Necropolis, with the Venatori making camp just one door behind the main hub where the Mourn Watch is stationed. Everyone performs rituals, the Circles are barely mentioned, a Forbidden One is hiding behind a door in the Necropolis' main hall and no one ever noticed it before, not even Emmrich.
Statues of Fen'Harel and the Evanuris, elven relics and elven contraptions are hidden everywhere - everywhere. To show how vast and influential the elven empire was? That was probably the devs' intent. Does it always make sense? No. Is it for gameplay purposes, to fill the map with puzzles and stuff to find like in the 2000s? Obviously.
In Inquisition, there was an entire area of the Hinterlands ravaged by the Templars and rebel mages. The refugees were scared of walking the roads to find food because there was wild magic flying around. Rabid templars crazy on lyrium roamed the woods, and the Chantry was powerless.
Elven ruins were scattered around with sense, with a purpose, barely visible among the vegetation, forgotten and avoided, or almost forced to fuse with Chantry's buildings (just look at the Emerald Graves). There was a logic behind the NPCs' and props' locations in the world.
Here, there is simply no logic or consequence to anything ever. The Black Divine is never addressed, as far as I remember. Dalish clans have lost any distinction - the only elven faction you meet is that of the Veil Jumpers, which is a weird cocktail of elves who all know how bad the Evanuris are and random humans and Qunari. Yes, there are humans being allowed to guard ancient elven artifacts in a Dragon Age game. No, they are not called shem. Yes, they all get along swimmingly.
The Crows are not slavers and dangerous figures anymore - they're actually the heroes of Treviso! They treat their fledgling Crows with care and respect, no torture involved. Where did you hear such a preposterous idea? Zevran? Who's Zevran?
Taash says the Qun isn't a prison. How is that possible? They sent assassins after Bull when he defected. They hunt Vashoth and Tal-Vashoth if they dare leave, and if a sten loses his sword, he cannot return home, because his brethren would kill him, as "to a Qunari warrior, the sword is the soul."
So yeah, this was definitely supposed to be a reboot for Dragon Age, just like Andromeda was supposed to be one for Mass Effect. That's why everything falls flat.
#da:tv spoilers#dragon age spoilers#da:tv critical#sorry for being negative but heh#i had hopes for this game#despite the original developers leaving the team during the years#and the terrible marketing campaign#i really trusted bioware into giving us one last love letter#instead they were (probably) forced to go where the most money is#also to justify all the resources and time wasted#it's absolutely fine if you love the game!! good for you!!#enjoy it and have fun it's what games are for!#but please don't be blind to its faults#because it's clearly not a love letter to the fans as they claimed#and we have a saying here#“if you keep eating shit the waiter will keep bringing it to you”#so please don't treat bioware as the perfect company just because they added a photo mode or the hair looks fantastic#the game has glaring issues and not addressing them will only make bioware/ea keep making this kind of content#where everything is super safe and bleached to appeal to the biggest playerbase possible

If I was a DA community council member yall wouldn't be able to waterboard that info out of me
If you see one floating around be sure to send them a supportive message, congratulate them on getting the bag, anything nice: this is my birthday wish so you gotta do it
#my thoughts on influencer-based marketing are the same but like its just a job its very difficult and very social contract work thats it#I dont doubt for a second they genuinely care because who tf would be a front-line soldier in DA marketing even WITH compensation#think clearly!

It's just, I only just got here again, and I'm--
I'm starving, too, like...
#greg hirsch#i went to market#all the bells say#tomgreg#this is clearly something greg says bc he's actively trying to show more self worth - but also as a beg for love#like 'give me a REASON'#tell me you don't just need me but WANT me#and what's interesting is that while these scenes basically yell to the audience Greg Is Important To The Plot#both scenes also make it clear that greg is not in fact important in the way he's claiming to be#kendall makes a point of getting ewan a ride but NOT for greg's sake - it's entirely for his own benefit#bc of a larger plan that greg has nothing to do with#and in all the bells say greg wants to assert that tom has competition wrt keeping him#and tom shoots down that competition#but the truth is there really wasn't any. greg is important - a big deal - ONLY to tom#tom's the one who will choose him and keep him fed and treat him as someone important#mine

various advice tidbits on writing limbus company fic
from my own personal notes 👍 i will likely add on more to this later. this is all based on the official english translation.
Vergilius seems to refer to everyone by their full name. He calls Faust "Ms. Faust" in the prologue and "Miss Faust" in the Dante's Notes mini episodes. He calls Dante just "Dante" most of the time, but sometimes uses "Manager Dante" to make a point. I don't speak Korean so please correct me if this is wrong, but I think Faust is the only one he uses an honorific for.
Charon calls Vergilius "Verg" and the bus "Mephi". It stands to reason that she would similarly shorten others' names if she were addressing them directly.
Regarding Don: "Don Quixote" is her full name. "Don" is a title in Spanish, but seems to be part of her name here. She is never referred to as "Don" or "Quixote", only "Don Quixote". Hong Lu and Yi Sang are similar in that both parts are the full name.
Meursault is pronounced "mer-SO". There's two u's in his name, just like in the word vacuum.
Heathcliff most likely does not have a surname. In Wuthering Heights, he is raised alongside the Earnshaw children but is notably not considered an Earnshaw. He has one name, like Cher and Michelangelo. This can be seen in Limbus in his icon, which reads CE ❤️ HC (Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff).
Rodya's name in her source material is Rodion Raskolnikov. Since she is female in Limbus, her surname becomes Raskolnikova.
Gregor is Jewish; this shouldn't need to be said but it does bear repeating. Please do not have him celebrating Christian holidays. He would not fucking say that.
Sinclair canonically said the word "legit" to Kromer which is something I think of often when trying to figure out if a word seems too informal for him to say. He's well-educated and polite most of the time, but he did still call her a bitch too. Sinclair can say rude words.
Ryoushuu's SANGRIA usually spell out a word. She sometimes uses two- or three-letter ones that don't spell anything on their own (like RB, EC, CIH), but four or more letters will spell a word (SYNC, TRANCHES, NOUN, etc). She will not say HMFTDIHTST or anything of that nature. Rule of thumb: if it's more than three letters, it spells something. (The one exception I have found is her W Corp ID, which has a skill called DDEDR.)
Reading the character's source material can give you incredible insight into why they act the way they do, even if we've already been through their Canto. I strongly recommend looking into the source works as part of a well-rounded analysis.
#limbus company#do not let me talk about the people clearly using fake names ok#im in the market basket parking lot i can't be thinking about ryoushuu

day two and I'm realizing maybe a person who firmly believes at least 70% of makeup/skincare brands are built off of insecurity-manipulating greed should not be a sales associate for a makeup store
I mean I'm going to keep working here but I'm absolutely going to be the person pointing the customers towards the bargain brands and not even mentioning the luxury money-hemorrhaging stuff unless they ask for it
#I work hourly. not on commission. there is no reason for me to try and swindle people out of their hard-earned money#SO much of the marketing is so clearly just gimmicks and buzzwords and pseudoscience#I'm a professional makeup artist with a deep distrust of the beauty industry and arguably I think that's the healthiest way to be#pathos ethos fuck that shit I don't care if it's colorful or has a fun clicky button or a celebrity endorsement#tell me exactly why it works and what it's made of and use real words and maybe I'll consider taking a look

I know Dipper got the thing on his hand(I think?) to show their relationship but how does Bill feel about wearing a ring?
Yep, Dipper's got Bill's mark on his left palm, but currently Bill doesn't have anything. Not for any particular reason! Just because he hasn't thought to - he's not used to relationships with so many reciprocal aspects.
At some point either Bill's going to have a lightbulb go off and congratulate himself on a brilliant idea, or Dipper's going to bring it up to him. And if it's the latter, and Bill's lucky, it'll be for a romantic reason, and not a 'putting his foot down' one.
#answers#So yeah currently Bill doesn't have anything showing he's 'off the market' so to speak#No malice or manipulation reasons he just never considered it#Bill's mostly used to being the one who Has Stuff and while he knows he's technically Also Dipper's#The idea of having a token displaying it was a non-idea. HE'S the guy who does the owning! And Dipper's got his thing! It's all settled!#Unfortunately just making one big public declaration then mentioning it on occassion doesn't exactly scream 'taken' to some beings#Dipper doesn't get jealous as easily as Bill does but he DOES get jealous#Most attempts people make on Bill he sort of shrugs off because Bill's made it Pretty Clear he's obsessed with Dipper#He processes that emotion differently too - more likely to be Anxious than Angry#But there are the occasions when it DOES bug him. A Lot.#Should someone make a pass at Bill that hits the right buttons? And have it somehow be related to Bill not Clearly Indicating he IS taken?#Dipper's going to be able to summon up QUITE the stern talking to#Perhaps with a side of dragging Bill bodily off to put a metaphorical or literal stamp on the bastard#Serves Him Right Dipper Says

i truly do not think alice can possibly stop being a character bc of previously stated reasons so now my working theory is the "i'll die down here" is mostly a distraction from "i was born down here" and alice Is some kind of reborn or construct or undead or something in the way that what she Is, her Current form of life was born from whatever weird alchemist shit is going on in the OIAR and the Magnus institute
#or she'll die and come back wrong#this is not me being in denial btw like i probably care about colin more than i do alice and i don't think he's gonna make it very far#alexander j newall said his recordings get weird faster so i think we'll have a little while of spooky happenings before he dies but yeah#i don't think he's gonna make it#but on alice's side i've already mentioned it but 1) the writers clearly know enough about queer horror and the history and tropes of that#representation to know killing off your trans character early is a bad move#trans women in horror have a very weird and usually harmful portrayal and i think they know that#and 2) it would be weird from just a marketing standpoint to kill off one of the official announced protagonists in the first season#if alice does die i'm gonna look so stupid#no actually if alice does die i'm gonna campaign the “this is how undead alice can still win” agenda so hard#alice dyer#alice tmagp#tmagp#tmagp spoilers#?#the magnus protocol#i want people to fUCK with me tho i fear my posts are hidden
