Hello Sarah! I've been reading Teacher's Pet and can I just say that I absolutely LOVE IT. I do have a question tho. Do Kant and Babe have a 20 year age difference? The timeline is messing with my head a little

I think it might actually be a twenty-three-year age difference. Kant is twenty-nine—the same age he is in the show—and Babe's six. I imagine Babe was a happy little accident. Obviously not ideal for Kant's poor parents, but it does happen.

Listen, I completely understand respecting actors' privacy, but I don't see a point in turning a blind eye to the things they willingly post on social media just so a few rabid fans can live in a fantasy world where their idols want to fuck them. Calling someone gay is not an insult—even if it's not true! I figure if my stupid little brain is going to hyperfixate on this industry, I might as well put all the pointless knowledge I've acquired to good use and share it with y'all. As a queer person, it means a lot to me that there are actual queer people working in this industry and I want to be able to support them even if they don't feel comfortable admitting it out loud. I don't know much about thai language other thn from dramas obviously but do you think there's a reason why kantbison kept calling each other khun even after 5 years of relationships? Is it the norm ? Isn't it too formal after a 5-year relationship? Sorry if I offend the culture but its something I keep thinking

No, not at all! When couples call each other "khun" it always screams married behavior to me—probably because that's what the parents in most of these BLs call their spouses. It is formal, but in the same way that using rude pronouns with friends indicates closeness, so does using formal pronouns with someone you're dating. My favorite example of this is Pisaeng from Be My Favorite who uses rude pronouns with Kawi in the past, but switches to formal/polite pronouns in the future once they're in a long-term relationship. You know that line in Pride and Prejudice where Elizabeth tells Mr. Darcy that he can only call her Mrs. Darcy when he's incandescently happy? That's what couples using "Khun" reminds me of.

Every couple's dynamic is different and one of the things I find so fascinating about the Thai language is how pronoun use can tell you so much about a relationship. In the case of Kant and Bison who have dom/sub undertones incorporated in their dynamic, I think the use of "Khun" serves to elevate Bison to equal status as Kant despite their age gap. Calling Kant "Phi," would give Kant more linguistic power than him and I don't think Bison would like that.

Might be a weird question but do you know why fkt call Force phi yet Book informally? Isn't Book older than force even?

I can only speculate. I remember watching an interview First did prior to Safe House Season 2 where he talked about having just met Book for the first time while they were getting their hair and make-up done and Book had asked that they speak casually with each other. In contrast, I imagine that First probably met Force for the first time during Safe House and without having discussed honorifics beforehand, he likely defaulted to P’Force out of politeness and it just stuck.

Interestingly, this seems to be a bit of a trend. Neo once told this hilarious story about how the first time he met Mark Pakin, he assumed they were the same age so he used rude pronouns with him only to find out later that Mark is actually older than him. But, as Neo puts it, by that time, “it was too late.”

You also see this a lot with actors who meet on set. Great still calls Thor “P’Thor” even though Thor’s younger than him because Thor played his older brother on Wandee Goodday. Milk does the same thing with Ciize because of 23.5.

First and Khaotung are closer to Book than they are to Force, so that could be why? But I also get the sense that calling Force “Phi” was a bit of an inside joke on the Only Friends set, probably because he was playing Top, who liked to pretend he was more mature than the rest of them. Or maybe just because Force has major Daddy energy.

Khaotung also tends to call anyone he’s attracted to Phi and lord knows he likes staring at Force’s muscles.
