What do you think of the Kinsey scale? I've seen some lgbt people oppose the idea that sexuality can be defined by a numbered scale like that.
The Kinsey Reports played an important role in challenging the prevailing sexual mores of the late 1940s (for men) and early 1950s (for women). They were among the first widely read 'scientific reports' on human sexuality that didn't see homosexual activity - not homosexuality as an innate orientation - as a symptom of a mental disorder requiring correction.
But the Kinsey Reports are product of their time, and I see the Kinsey scale as more of a hindrance than a help in the 21st century. I can't speak on the LG or heterosexual experience with the scale, but I think it:
Artificially differentiates between bisexual people based on our sexual history, for example, by reinforcing the idea that we're just "basically straight" or "basically gay."
Implies our sexuality is a spectrum, and not a discrete orientation like homosexuality and heterosexuality. I personally find all the discussions around "trying bisexuality" and "using bisexuality as a stepping stone" and "are you a straight or gay bisexual" comments really tired and offensive.
Obscures biphobia. I've written a little bit about this ages ago, but I think LGBT activism falls into the same traps as many other forms of social activism (outside of feminism) - it assumes that all discrimination and harm occur in the 'public' sphere (as hate crimes, denial of goods, services, and employment, and/or restrictive laws) (biphobia is overwhelmingly felt in the 'private' sphere, where we face the highest rates of domestic violence, addiction, and homelessness). The Kinsey scale encourages people to see bisexuality as a 'spectrum' between 'straight' and 'gay' and that, as a consequence, makes it harder to acknowledge how our discrete orientation can - and does! - impact our lives.
Sorry, this turned into a little bit of a rant. I don't think the Kinsey scale is a useful way of approaching sexuality, particularly when used to classify bisexuals... (I'd be delighted if any heterosexual, gay or lesbian people wanted to add something about how they understand the scale!).
#i'm not saying the kinsey reports were good btw they were just really interesting for the period#they approached sexuality as a thing a person did rather than a thing a person was#i think society puts too much faith in other people telling them their sexuality#anyway i hope i do bisexuality justice here#anon#bisexuality#i really would love to hear from people with other orientations on it

Selecting the Right Tools for Effective Presentations
Selecting appropriate tools for presentations is a critical aspect of delivering an impactful message to an audience. A presenter should carefully assess the purpose and objectives of their presentation to determine the most effective tools for conveying information. This could range from traditional slide decks to interactive multimedia presentations, depending on the nature of the content being presented. It is also crucial to take into account the audience's technological proficiency when choosing the tools to ensure seamless communication and engagement.
Moreover, rehearsing and becoming familiar with the selected tools is imperative for a polished and professional delivery that resonates with the audience, making a lasting impression.
By meticulously selecting the right tools, presenters can elevate their presentations and create a memorable experience for their audience. The choice of tools plays a significant role in how information is communicated and perceived by the viewers.
It is essential to strike a balance between technological sophistication and user-friendliness to ensure that the tools enhance rather than distract from the message being conveyed.
A well-prepared presenter who has mastered their tools can captivate their audience, foster engagement, and effectively convey their message with clarity and impact.
Visual Sculptors Designs – Aligned to Client Branding Guidelines.
To ensure that presentations are in line with a management consulting company's branding and messaging, we adopt various important strategies: After signing an agreement with a firm, we have calls to understand past projects and brand guidelines. We then create a detailed style sheet for approval, usually finalizing after 1-2 iterations. For the initial 10-15 deliveries, the agency prioritizes delivering high quality work with multiple quality checks. This includes ensuring brand consistency in aspects like color scheme, choosing appropriate chart types, and formatting elements. Graphic design process helps familiarize the agency team with the client's brand.

A savage woman 🍊
Ethnographer Bronisław Malinowski, in his monograph The Sexual Life of Savages in North-Western Melanesia, published in 1929, which initiated the social anthropology known today, describes the erotic fun the natives of the Trobriand Islands.
It is called kamali and involves the girl inflicting bodily pain on her partner. For a boy, it is an expression of passion, temperament and love, which can be compared to the role played by a kiss in Western cultures. A girl in love can hurt her beloved by scratching, beating, biting or using a sharp instrument, and he happily accepts these attacks and is proud of his wounds.
Erotic pain infliction does not only occur early in the pairing of young Trobrianders. When the love caresses become more passionate, the couple freely begins to use their teeth to bite each other's lips, bite the cheek, or pinch the nose and chin. Drinking blood from mutilated lips, even pulling out hair and nibbling at eyelashes (also catching each other's lice and eating them!) is part of intimate, unwitnessed lovemaking and a mutual expression of passion.
What is worth noting is that the woman, based on Malinowski's observations of wounds on men's bodies, is more active when exchanging painful caresses.
(The Sexual Life of Savages in North-Western Melanesia, B. Malinowski, New York 1929, pp. 252, 256-257, 333)
While studying this passage, I began to wonder if all women bite more often and are more bloodthirsty? The 1953 Kinsey Report found that men and women were almost equally sexually aroused by being bitten (55% of women and 50% of men had an erotic reaction after being bitten by their partner). I also came across information that Marilyn Monroe was known to draw blood by biting the lips of her partners. Again, I can't confirm this, so what do you think?

This documentary shows how "The Kinsey Reports" have been used to change the laws concerning sex crimes in America, resulting in the minimal sentences so often given to rapists and pedophiles. Further explained is that the Kinsey data laid the foundation for sex education -- training teachers, psychologists and even Catholic priests in human sexuality. What has been the consequence? And what was Kinsey's research really based upon? Working secretly in his attic, Dr. Kinsey was one of America's original pornographers. His influence inspired Hugh Hefner to launch Playboy Magazine - the "soft" approach to porn - which in time would escalate the widespread use of pornography through magazines, cable TV and the Internet. In 2006 the California Child Molestation & Sexual Abuse Attorneys reported that: "The number of victims of childhood sexual abuse and molestation grows each year. This horrific crime is directly tied to the growth of pornography on the Internet." Perhaps most disturbing, Alfred Kinsey has been accused of training pedophiles to work with stopwatches and record the responses of children being raped - all in the name of "science." Among his workers was a Nazi pedophile whose relationship to Kinsey was exposed in a German court. The information from these crimes was then recorded in "Table 34" of Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. How can lawmakers use such a document to define the moral parameters of our society?

Notable transgender people from history
Here's the list I put together for when people on non-trans subreddits claim we didn't exist until recently:
Ashurbanipal (669-631BCE) - King of the Neo-Assryian empire, who according to Diodorus Siculus is reported to have dressed, behaved, and socialized as a woman.
Elagabalus (204-222) - Roman Emperor who preferred to be called a lady and not a lord, presented as a woman, called herself her lover's queen and wife, and offered vast sums of money to any doctor able to make her anatomically female.
Kalonymus ben Kalonymus (1286-1328) - French Jewish philosopher who wrote poetry about longing to be a woman.
Eleanor Rykener (14th century) - trans woman in London who was questioned under charges of sex work
[Thomas(ine) Hall](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas(ine)_Hall) - (1603-unknown) - English servant in colonial Virginia who alternated between presenting as a woman and presenting as a man, before a court ruled that they were both a man and a woman simultaneously, and were required to wear both men's and women's clothing simultaneously.
Chevalier d'Eon (1728-1810) - French diplomat, spy, freemason, and soldier who fought in the Seven Years' War, who transitioned at the age of 49 and lived the remaining 33 years of her life as a woman.
Public Universal Friend (1752-1819) - Quaker religious leader in revolutionary era America who identified and lived as androgynous and genderless.
Surgeon James Barry (1789-1865) - Trans man and military surgeon in the British army.
Berel - a Jewish trans man who transitioned in a shtetel in Ukraine in the 1800's, and whose story was shared with the Jewish Daily Forward in a 1930 letter to the editor by Yeshaye Kotofsky, a Jewish immigrant in Brooklyn who knew Berel
Mary Jones (1803-unknown) - trans woman in New York whose 1836 trial for stealing a man's wallet received much public attention
Albert Cashier (1843-1915) - Trans man who served in the US Civil War.
Harry Allen (1882-1922) - Trans man who was the subject of sensationalistic newspaper coverage for his string of petty crimes.

Don't get me wrong, the Kinsey Reports were deeply flawed and used questionable research practices. However, they do point to the ridiculousness of today's moral panic over new studies finding 10-25% of Gen Z is queer. I'm more concerned about why that number is still so low.
