i have so many THOUGHTS on wren stirling she’s the most underwritten character in the book (which makes sense, she has the least direct dynamic with oliver and it’s all his POV) and when iwwv inevitably gets a screen adaptation i hope she gets fleshed out

A Man Who Lost Four Fingers Has Built Highly Articulated Prosthetic Fingers, All Controlled By Wrist Movements.
Engineer Ian Davis built his own mechanical prosthetic when his medical insurance did not cover the cost. His prosthetic functions without batteries or electricity. In early 2019, Davis lost four digits on his left hand due to a work accident, prompting him to create the prosthetic

When my mom was growing up she lived downtown in a city, but her home abutted a golf course. She and her siblings would sneak through a hole in the fence that they definitely made. They’d wade into the pond and water traps after hours and take away buckets of filthy muddy algae covered balls.
They’d take them home and clean them up until they were shining and white again. Then they’d trek out to the entrance of the course the next day and sell them back to golfers for a little cheaper than they could buy balls elsewhere.
I was utterly delighted by this story as a kid myself, relishing that my mom and her siblings were duping the golfers into buying back their own balls. But as an adult it’s like- of course. No one else was gonna wade into the muck for them anyway, everyone wins.

Sad day for Martians,
Ingenuity, the ‘little helicopter that could’, the first ever helicopter to fly on another planet is down. It took its final flight on the 18th of January where one or more of its roter blades were damaged.
We weren’t even sure it was possible to fly a helicopter on Mars before Ingenuity, and yet this tiny little shoe box of a helicopter managed to fly in an atmosphere less than 1% as dense as Earth’s, flying a total of 72 times in the last 3 years, far exceeding the 5 planned flights.
Having arrived on Mars hitched to the Perseverance rover’s belly, this little guy has spent these 3 years scoutting ahead for Perseverance. But now Perseverance will have to continue its mission without Ingenuity. For the first time since its creation, Perseverance is on its own in that endless red desert.

I’ll say it. The musical episode on psych (2006) is a fucking masterpiece. I hate it. I love it. It’s terrible and sucks ass. It’s perfect in every single way. It doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s entirely logical. It’s unironically my favourite episode of the show.
Special shoutout to “I’ve heard it both ways” for being both an absolute banger and having some real killer lyrics. “I’ve heard it both ways, the right way and then yours” — thousands are dead, no survivors. “I’m not sure which of them is cracked”-“the nuts?”-“YOU’RE cracked”-“YOU’RE nuts!” Fucking perfection man idk what to tell you.

novella announcement: Cinder House
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
CINDER HOUSE: a Cinderella retelling, a ghost story, a queer romance (of course), a novella. Coming to you in October next year.
US preorder links here, others to come!
Alt text for the book copy below the cut:
Ella is a haunting.
Murdered at sixteen, her ghost is furiously trapped in her father's house, invisible to everyone except her stepmother and stepsisters.
Even when she discovers how to untether herself from her prison, there are limits. She cannot be seen or heard by the living people who surround her. Her family must never learn she is able to leave. And at the stroke of every midnight, she finds herself back on the staircase where she died.
Until she forges a wary friendship with a fairy charm-seller, and makes a bargain for three nights of almost-living freedom. Freedom that means she can finally be seen. Danced with. Touched.
You think you know Ella's story: the ball, the magical shoes, the handsome prince.
You're halfway right, and all-the-way wrong.
