It's super dark, creepy, and just overall amazing!!!

I especially love it cuz the mc is older (like mid-thirties). it's so refreshing cuz typically the mc is always like late teens and early twenties. This fic actually inspired Monsoon! My headcanons for EVERY (I think) Mortal Kombat 1 character

— Liu Kang is a big fan of Chinese food, because well, in the previous timelines he was Chinese, so he constantly goes to Madam Bo's restaurant to eat.

— Johnny Cage is a great dramatic actor, but unfortunately, Hollywood studios always cast him as comedic characters or male characters who are himbos, wasting his potential as a dramatic actor.

— Kenshi met Suchin after saving her from being attacked by thugs in Tokyo, and the two's connection was almost instantaneous, with Suchin agreeing to run away with him after Kenshi left the Yakuza.

— Raiden has a huge crush on Kitana, and constantly draws pictures of the two of them kissing (he's a cartoonist btw)

— Kung Lao loves Chinese and South Korean comedy dramas, his favorite South Korean comedy drama is "True Beauty".

— Kuai Liang is extremely protective of Harumi, like, if Harumi gets a scar, he won't rest until the person who did it pays dearly. When he was dating Cyrax, he was also quite protective of her as well (He's not a sexist who thinks women are too defenseless to protect themselves, he just wants to keep Harumi safe because he loves her so much).

Demisexual?? Queer? Nonbinary? All these were magical words to me until it hit...

Oh-- that's me.

It took me a while to come out as queer, longer to come out as nonbinary, and then some more time to reconcile all this with being a mixed Indonesian kid. A dash of mental health, a sprig of figuring out asexuality and neurodivergence. But atop all that? One thing has been constant.

I've always been a writer.

WHY I WROTE PHONING FAUST

Well, well, well, after years of battling imposter's syndrome, I did it. I wrote another book! It's called PHONING FAUST and it's getting published with queer indie publishing company @ninestarpress-blog because they're all cool and LGBT+ and super talented!

Why did I write PHONING FAUST?

What is... a Faust?

A Faustian bargain is what's popularly known as the devil's bargain. A usually losing situation or a trick where the devil tricks someone out of their soul in exchange for ULTIMATE POWER!

I rewrote Faust to be Sapphic as can be. It stars a mixed Indonesian lesbian named Dian Faust who battles depression tooth and nail and ends up calling a mental health crisis hotline. Bc... she's lonely.

PAUSE-- and this is a horror comedy. Comedy. COMEDY-- you might say?

WHY? HOW? Sounds sad and depressing, right?

WHAT'S FAUST?

Well... in the original retelling version of Goethe's Faust (who retold it from folklore etc etc) the main character of Dr. Faustus accidentally summons the devil or something when he too is about to consider the meaning of life and it gets sad bc he doesn't see one so he makes the devil's bargain FOR ULTIMATE POWER. Or something.

But in my version-- it's based off my experiences as a queer person. Before I had community. Before I understood and accepted myself-- I had a rough time. For a whole bunch of factors outside of that-- I didn't feel like my life was in a good place. And even worse-- I felt isolated.

THE PLOT

I didn't want to bother my friends with my problems. So-- I'd call the Trevor Project or a crisis hotline just to have somebody to talk to. In the same way-- Dian Faust is struggling with depression in the story I write. So she calls a hotline like the Trevor Project just to not be alone.

And guess who she finds?

A super hot genderfluid devil called MEMPHIS, short for Mephistopheles. A pierced and tatted punk rocker who has an interest for telling tall tales and serving Dian Faust's every wish and command! (No, not like that!)

Because Dian Faust, like me, is a mixed Indonesian kid trying to figure out what it means to be queer AND demisexual (finding attraction only after really getting to emotionally connect with someone and feeling, as I explain in the book, a lack of that before then for anyone). And she's figuring plenty out--- including how to save her immortal soul and her feelings for a certain genderfluid demon but if you want to know more-- YOU CAN BUT YOU HAVE TO SCROLL TO THE END OF THIS POST TO FIND OUT !

I was, like Dian Faust and like a lot of people, a queer person who felt like I was on an island unto myself. I didn't know who to turn to-- so I turned to no one. By reaching out to hotlines (no hot devils unfortunately), I managed to get the help I needed to avoid making rash decisions-- to get the help I needed to get better. To take that first step.

PHONING FAUST is a novel that raises the importance of mental health and finding community, and most importantly, not giving up. As Dian Faust says in my upcoming book...

Sword gays showdown preliminaries

For Kazuma Asogi:

ok so he’s not CANONICALLY queer but it’s ace attorney. so… he does, however, canonically have a katana! a sword so integral to the plot it gives me shivers just thinking about it. the sword also has a name, it’s karuma (translates roughly to karma) and it gets passed onto the main character, ryunosuke naruhodo (who he calls partner), after kazuma (spoiler alert) dies in case 1-2. except (SUPER spoiler alert!) he isn’t dead! he comes back in case 2-3 and would you look at that he has ANOTHER SWORD, a more european sword (cause he ended up in england after his amnesia brain said he REALLY had to go to england). once he gets his memories back, ryunosuke gives karuma back to him and proceeds to use it to destroy the wax figure of his dead presumed serial killer dad (long story), and now he has, you guessed it, TWO SWORDS! for the next two cases he wears both swords at his sides, and also he broke the tip off of karuma attempting to murder someone (he didn’t actually murder anyone but still) and then turns out karuma’s hilt has the REAL serial killer’s will in it. very VERY important sword. in the end, kazuma gives karuma back to ryunosuke which is really symbolic but that’s besides the point, and they cross swords and it’s a whole big thing. 10/10 gay sword guy.

For Raiden:

He's such a tragic character! Raised to be a super soldier from birth and is constantly being exploited by the government. As for the lgbt part him and his rival in the latest game he's in have so much tension it's unreal (gay). I headcanon him as trans too because he has a feminine figure, his voice gets more masculine as the series goes on (testosterone) and his entire body gets replaced with cybernetics (trans allegory...)

For Claudine Saijou:

Fights with a longsword! Should be number 1 for this line alone: “For heroes, there are trials. For saints, there are temptations. For me, there is you”, said to def not her girl crush but rival btw (stream Revue of Soul) Vote for my disaster theatre kid its what she deserves!

Her gay levels are off the charts. She has a homoerotic rivalry with another classmate (Maya Tendo/Tendou Maya) that is integral to her character, as she was always first until she met Maya. She’s also half-French, but that’ll be important later. When she’s looking at pictures of Maya stretching (to study her form of course) and another character asks her what she’s looking at, she panics, blushes, and says none of your business. Her and Maya have a heartfelt conversation while stretching with Claudine’s face pressed into Maya’s chest (between her stomach and breasts). Some art from a magazine has Maya pushing Claudine into a deep stretch, but it looks like something a lot different (Claudine blushing doesn’t help. Also I realized that there’s a lot of gay stuff related to stretching with these two).

During a two on two duel (I know it’s not a duel), they fight together. Not only that, but at one point they hold hands and take a pose typical of romantic partners in dancing. For no reason. They just pause and do it to show off. They aren’t even fighting. Anyways, when they lose, Claudine starts crying, not because she lost, but because Maya lost. So, of course, Maya starts speaking to her in French, with one of the things she says being “You’re cute even when you cry, my Claudine.” All of this is stuff that’s happened in the series (except the magazine thing).

Now for the gay stuff in the movie. Their duel with each other is so dense with sapphic undertones they can hardly be called undertones. For starters, the song that accompanies this revue is called “A Beautiful Person, or Perhaps it is.” While this title is incomplete, the director states that he wanted the watcher to fill it in and this removed the end of the original title. That title is “A Beautiful Person, or Perhaps it is a Love Song.” The duel is framed as a fight between a hero (Maya) and a devil (Claudine). Maya is in an outfit reminiscent of Renaissance Italy and Claudine is in a suit. Thus, Maya signs a contract giving her soul over to Claudine, as is the case with marriage. With her own blood, in the shape of Position Zero (an important symbol in the show), which happens to look like a T, for Tendou. After a few minutes of fighting, Maya disappears and monologues, appearing in a white dress. This means that Maya has signed her soul over to Claudine, and they are now both wearing a white dress and suit. Not beating the gay marriage allegations. Maya finished her monologue with “For heroes, there are trials. For saints, there are temptations. For me, there is a devil.” They continue to fight, Maya proclaiming herself emotionless and empty. Maya then cuts the medallion from Claudine’s chest (they wear medallions and you lose the duel if it gets cut off).

Claudine falls. Maya attempts to claim victory by stabbing her sword into Position Zero, which is then covered by steel doors. Claudine sits up and reveals she has another medallion in her mouth, which she does by sticking out her tongue in a uhhhh. Anyways, after a bit of back and forth, Claudine tells Maya that she’s full of arrogance and pride and envy and longing. She then says that “No matter how many times I die, I will revive! Tendou Maya! To beat you, my rival, into submission!” She then makes her stage entrance, taking Maya’s usual entrance speech and mocking it. She also says “I fill myself with exploding passion, now, and bash it into your heart!” After some talking, Maya makes her stage entrance, taking Claudine’s usual entrance speech and mocking it. Up until now, they have been playing characters, but still letting their own emotions shine through. Now, they are entirely themselves.

They begin to fight again, running downs white aisle before clashing swords, with Maya saying “Such an ugly, emotion drenched appearance-“ and is cut off by Claudine, who says “Show me more, Tendou Maya! Right now, you’re the cutest you’ve ever been!” To which Maya responds “I’m always cute!”  The song starts up again (duels are accompanied by songs), with Maya singing “With a grin of deception I’ll tear this piece of cloth.” Deception in Japanese is mayakashi, a reference to Maya’s name. Maya then sings “I want to show you my feelings becoming dyed in black.” Black is Kuro in Japanese. Claudine, in Katakana, is Kurodine, with her nickname being Kuro, so that line could also be interpreted “I want to show you my feelings becoming dyed in you.” Claudine then sings “Only me, always, forever,” before they sing in unison “You only need to look at me,” as they lock blades. Some fighting happens and they’re falling through the sky, holding onto each others clothes and Claudine says “Only I can make you lay everything bare!” To which Maya responds “I’ll expose my everything, on the stage!” Claudine shoots back with “There’s a partner you can expose everything to, on the stage!” At this point, there’s a short time with independent vocals for Maya and Claudine in addition to their talking. Maya has been singing “If I’m on the stage, if I’m in front of you,” for the last two lines of dialogue. Claudine sings “Be it ugly or beautiful,” as Maya sings “I will expose, anything and everything, all of me, all of me.” As this happens, Maya is saying “We love the stage,” which is continued by Claudine saying “And we can’t part from the stage!” Maya calls them both “Pathetic clowns!” To which Claudine corrects “No, rivals!” Maya says “If you’re there, I have to strive higher!” Claudine says “You make me even more beautiful! Maya!” Maya then yells “Claudine!” Claudine yells “For heroes, there are trials!” Maya continues “For saints, there are temptations!” Then, as one, their swords crossed, faces inches from each other, yell “For me, there is you!” Over top of this, their voices sing a line in unison: “Forever and ever, I’d like to cross swords with you.”

Claudine’s sword stabs through the contract, through the Position Zero in blood, which may be Maya’s family name, and Maya says as an aside “Saijou Claudine… You are beautiful.” Claudine cuts the medallion from Maya’s chest, finally beating her rival.

Unhappy Campers rewrite - Millie, Moxxie and the Mission

Here's the rewrite for millie's and moxxie's conflict

I figure it would make more sense for moxxie to focus on the mission, rather than impressing a bunch of teenagers and so does millie, but still appreciates the support shes getting on her own achievements instead of being inferior to someone else. This is one of the reasons why this would've been a season 1 episode (the main one being the end)

I kinda want to rewrite moxxies song too, i cant neccesarily do it normally since its got the big white texts with moxxies icon over it but maybe i'll make it happen. I just know that the song would be moxxie's second attempt of finding the one that killed their client by making an intimating song of the clients murder and how he knows who did it (even when he isnt). I got it off a line from another adult show, 'kevin can go f*** himself' (really underrated show btw) where this detective said something about finding suspects through pretending to know who the criminal is, so thats what moxxie is trying to do basically.

But y'know its funny that i mentioned 'kevin can go f*** himself' because that show is meant to satirize sitcom tropes, mainly the 'lazy dumb man-child with the attractive smart wife' where we see it from the wife's pov (whose name is allison) and discover how much of a dipshit kevin is (the husband), especially towards the very end (not spoiling it though) and its not only funny because many adult animated shows are sitcoms with that exact trope but it also shows how a character can change or not through the consequences they would be receiving. Because while both characters (allison and kevin) tend to get away with a lot of shit, we see allison growing more through her receiving more consequences for her actions than kevin who never really has to face any at all (until the very end of course) and its not only from allison either, her friend 'patty', her aunt 'diane' , kevins best friend 'neil' (though i argue he's at the start to but definitely received consequences for his own actions) and thats why i think blitzo and stolas stagnated since they dont tend to be called out on their bullshit and if they do, that wouldnt mean anything because they'll be back to status quo, like a sitcom...

Anyway, I highly recommend 'kevin can go f*** himself'. Its a show from amc+ but its available on 'flixtor' for free (which is where i watched it but you do need ad blockers/extensions for those kinds of sites though). It's interesting, it satirizes the sitcom well, its a drama comedy (kinda like helluva boss but is more well balanced), its formatted pretty uniquely (with it having the 'sitcom light' compare to the darker 'real world'), it only has 2 seasons with 8 episodes each (which are always around 40-46 minutes), it's pretty suspenseful and its even got a sapphic relationship between patty and the detective (who is called 'tammy ridgeway') and their written well. The whole show is pretty well written imo, so if your interested in that or want to watch adult media besides helluva, that might be the show for you.

But Guqqie has fallen hard for Aimsey at this point and they'd do anything to keep them. So Guqqie becomes Gem's apprentice

And Guqqie's vigilante name was Frostbite and the heroes thought that was too edgy so she had to shorten it to Frost anyways

So Frost becomes Fauna's apprentice

(also Aimsey's hero name is Prince and False's (who is their mentor) is Queen and I did not mean to name them off of bands/artists--)

And like. Guqqie's vigilante bg is rly important because it means that Grian trusts her. All vigilantes are like. Mutuals. in the way you would be on Facebook but not on Tumblr yknow

But Aimsey's naivety is also important bc Gem can tell Guqqie stuff, but Guqqie will tell Aimsey, which is okay, and Aimsey will tell False, which isn't great but it's still fine, and then False will tell Ren which is a Problem because Ren doesn't shut up

So Guqqie has to lie to Aimsey to protect Gem. And it's sad.

The side plot is sad. This is side plot. These are side characters and Guqqie is semi important by sheer just being Gem's apprentice but omg I love them

Like I said before, I plan to post other stuff eventually but currently I’m super into r murder drones so that will be the main focus:) But also! I run a side blog :) @tessajameselliot1001 ! It’s a roleplay blog set in my own au, in the time frame of Tessa still being alive before the gala, with a bit of a steampunky and sapphic twist. (Yes I ship jessa, I love my doomed lesbians WAAAA.) surprise, surprise! what I am about to write will not be focusing on Ichigo, grimmichi or even Grimmjow. in an unexpected twist of fate I will actually be talking about Inoue Orihime and ichihime.

and frankly? I’m upset. and also very much done. so so unimaginably tired of all these canonical relationships made by mangakas desperate for a way to continue the story, to please the audience. because in this race to meet the expectations they create these soulless, superficial and seemingly loveless unions. they please only those who do not want anything beyond the cliche of “main character gets the girl in the end”. those who want a pretty picture to look at. no need for any depth, the masses will eat it up like starving dogs anyway, right? that’s what I feel happened to naruhina and sasusaku.

at least ichihime look like they love each other. you just know Kazui will grow up right, because he doesn’t have a perpetually absent father. so all in all Ichigo and Orihime are actually amongst the few lucky canonical spouses who don’t have a wagon of issues.

my gripe is with the way their relationship was set up. in this they are very similar to naruhina. an obviously infatuated girl and a totally oblivious boy? yeah... we are constantly showed face first into Orihime’s feelings for Ichigo, and I don’t have a problem with that, not really. I think the way Kubo portrayed her inner turmoil (her being jealous of Rukia) was phenomenal actually.

what I do have a problem with is:

I am not sure we went a single chapter with Orihime in it without a ‘btw she has a crush on Ichigo’ moment. like, atp we’re more likely to forget that Ichigo is a Shinigami, than about Orihime being in love with him. so it seems like her whole character is there JUST to like Ichigo and be the damsel in distress, when she could be so much more.

there aren’t ANY substantial moments where we can do nothing but concede that ‘yes, Ichigo does have a crush on Orihime too’. whatever moments we get don’t seem significant or serious enough for that. and I know there’s a time-skip, and obviously feelings could grow and develop in that time, but… it’s just icky how we only see Orihime obsessing over Ichigo, and not the other way around.

and you could claim that it’s because Ichigo has to deal with so much bullshit, so there’s no time left to see his feelings. but it’s objectively a terrible argument, considering what Inoue goes through while still having time to stop and drool over Ichigo.

anyway, do I hate ichihime? no, I like them. I’m as pleased with them as I could get with a canonical heterosexual relationship. they suit each other, they love each other, it’s all good. I’m just not getting anything out of them, that’ll make me go ‘damn, this is GOOD’. it’s adequate, I’ve had better.

but if I had to choose who Orihime would end up with it’d be a woman. either Tatsuki or Rukia. could be both. her relationship with Tatsuki is so… ughhh, it’s scrumptious. it’s giving what ichihime wishes it was giving. and her ending up with Rukia is also incredible, because we know Rukia considers Orihime her best friend, she likes her a ton. we also see Rukia worry about Orihime in this very tender way… oh god. and on Inoue’s end it’s how she’s jealous of Rukia, her beauty, grace, power, skills, bravery. do you see where this is going? I’m just saying, very sapphic of her.

ichihime is that comphet couple that start dating in high school, and last until their early 20s at which point they figure out both of them are gay.

Christie Lenée (she/her) - Phenomenal fingerstyle guitarist and singer-songwriter. I got to see her in concert back in summer of 2018 and I bought her album Stay; enjoy this music by an insanely skilled member of our community. Here’s her official website and YouTube channel.

k.d. lang (she/they) - You have seen 1990s-era photos of this Canadian musician floating around wlw tumblr I am sure, astride her motorcycle. Named the recipient of the 2018 Americana Trailblazer Award by The Americana Music Association®, they came out as a lesbian in June 1992 (six years before Ellen Degeneres, btw) and hot on the tail of the song “Constant Craving,” which is probably her best known song of sapphic longing, on an album capturing unrequited love for a married woman called Ingénue. Their most recent release Makeover is an album of stylistic remixes of her hits (seriously, listen to original and remixed versions and I doubt you will regret it), and the cover image is a portrait photo of them from 1995 in a very femme style (perhaps a figurative remix of her consistently butch style she is so known for).

Cássia Eller (she/her) - the first time I heard her voice was on a playlist of brazilian rock jams by a fellow tumblr user, and I remember desperately hoping the singer was a woman but doubting since the vocals were so deep. Luckily for us, Cássia Eller, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is! She released 5 studio albums during her lifetime to bless our ears and was even recognized for her accomplishments and popularity in Rolling Stones Brasil. She was openly bisexual and raised a son with her partner Maria; the two were together from 1987 until Cássia’s death in 2001, caused by a heart attack due to a cardiac malformation. She was only 39 when she died, which makes me so incredibly sad, but I’m so glad she was here. My personal favorite song of hers, since it was the first I ever heard, is Palavras Ao Vento.

Sorry I just want to vent about something….the past week I’ve seen multiple posts come up on my dash about how lesbians can have sex with men because “you can have sex with someone you’re not attracted to”.

As a late bloomer lesbian (shoutout to comphet), I find that hard to fathom. I’ve had sex with men before realizing my sexuality but one of the most agonizing things about being a late bloomer lesbian is having to live with the fact that I put myself and my body through all that; I can never take any of those experiences back no matter how badly I wish for it. I still have days when I break down because I wish I’ve realized my sexuality sooner so I wouldn’t have had to force myself to have sex with men just to “fit in”. The hardest pill I’ve had to swallow is that I’ve consented to all of it because I thought that’s what I wanted to do and well it wasn’t. For years, I felt so uncomfortable in my own body because of it. Thinking about those times makes me feel nauseous.

If you’re genuinely not attracted to someone, why would you put yourself through the trouble of having sex with them anyway? Especially if you’re aware you’re not attracted to them? I don’t get it.

You guys can go on about how everyone has sex with people they’re not attracted to all the time but don’t fucking act like there are zero emotional repercussions for doing so. It has taken me a long time to heal from all of that and idk maybe I am being over dramatic but it just feels like a big slap in the face seeing people say it so nonchalantly.

I will end this ask on a positive: I made some new sapphic friends this week and they invited me to an lgbtq summer halloween event!

It really is infuriating… Like, there’s obviously some exceptions when we talk about having sex with men as a lesbian such as 1) the person might have had relationships with men before figuring out their identity 2) the person knows they’re not attracted to men but they live in a dangerous place to be out as a lesbian and is influenced to/forced to be in a relationship with a guy just to fit in 3) or maybe the person is a sex worker and it’s their job…

But when it comes to someone who has sex with men simply because they want to, without it being their job, without them being forced or influenced to anything, while not only knowing fully well they’re a “lesbian” but also identifying as one… well that person isn’t a lesbian.

You wouldn’t have sex with men (considering all the things I’ve mentioned above) while knowing you’re a lesbian if you were actually one. Why would you willingly have sex with men if you’re not attracted to them?

Those people really have no idea how dangerous what they’re saying is. They completely forget how lesbians are major victims of corrective rape and how creepy men are when it comes to us. They’re only contributing to men thinking we’re deep down attracted to them.

And it’s really just like you said as someone who also had relationships with men before figuring out my identity: it’s agonizing even thinking about how I put myself and my body through that.

I’m so happy for you! I hope they’re very nice and that you enjoy this event!

MINOR TSATS SPOILERS AHEAD(about Pipes btw)

So, I just got TSATS yesterday, I’ve had it on preorder for forever. (Yes, if you’re desperate, I am willing to take a photo of every page, I understand the struggle)

but oh my gods, I’m so happy. Yes, because of the huge amount of Solangelo adorableness, but also because of Pipes. So, quick little fact about me, I’ve been on a journey to figure out my gender and sexuality for a while. I’m genderfluid, but I only really remember whenever I feel dysphoria or euphoria, just because I’ve got bigger problems, I’m somewhere on the aroace spec, and I like people who aren’t male. I’m not really comfortable with the term ‘lesbian’, and the queer flag is very unknown to a lot of people, and ‘sapphic’ makes me feel really fem, so I don’t really like that. I’m finally more comfortable with just knowing that I’m part of the community, and I don’t have to have a label. I love finding out about new labels, and there are a lot that I identify with, but the one big part, my attraction to people, is the one thing I can’t find a label for. It’s something I struggle with, because I like to have specific instructions, specific ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. It’s why I like math, because when learning the basics, there’s only one ‘correct’ answer. I thought I was aroace, but then I had my first kiss, and things got complicated.

So, when I was reading tsats, and I saw that Piper McLean was questioning her sexuality and attraction, and Nico just reassured her that that was okay, it made me so happy. I felt really truly represented. There are barely any questioning characters in media. Even teens seem to have everything figured out. So seeing that, it made me so happy. Piper is just a big ole’ queer mess, and so am I. Thank you, Rick, Mark, for this amazing book full of wholesomeness and representation. And lastly, thank you for not murdering Will.

So, one of an (additional) challenge of the fantasy book bingo was to write a review of the books you read. I have been putting this off for sometime, but finally decided to sit down and write this book review, especially since I have a lot to talk about.

(also this is my first review so it might get a bit haphazard since it's more me keeping a track of my opinions)

THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE

What I loved

Worldbuilding: the worldbuilding in the first half of the book is so well written and the most enjoyable part of this book. There's so much worldbuilding in this novel, from the different kingdoms, their religion, their rulers, their practices and beliefs as well as how they see the other kingdoms. And yet it never feels like exposition or info dump. Which btw there isnt a typical expository dump at the beginning of this book. Instead we are dropped right in the middle of the world and we figure and understand the world slowly as we read through

Weaving of plot: again, in the first half of the plot, there are four different pov characters in different parts of the world. They rarely know each other (except for two characters but they are in different places) and yet somehow the plot connects them together in a very interesting and enjoyable way.

Religion: religion plays a very important part in this book and the difference of beliefs and faiths, and how that causes conflicts is very realistically portrayed in this book. As well as two different religions believing two different versions of the same story. For example, the west follows a religion called virtuedom and thinks of Cleolind, a prominent historical figure as a damsel rescued by their saint after he trapped the dragon while the south believes the saint is a liar and Cleolind was the hero who trapped the dragon, and hail her as the Mother. Similarly, the East worships the dragons of the east and hate the wyrms of the west while the rest of the places don't see any distinction in the two types of dragons and hate both.

Diversity: absolutely adore how diverse the characters in this book were. Eadaz, also called Ead is brown (her characterisation parallels the SWANA region) and sapphic. Loth is a black man. Tané is Asian young girl and Niclays is an old gay man. Sabran, a very prominent character in the book (though not a pov character)who rules as the queen of the strongest kingdom is bi.

Ead and Sabran's relationship: especially during the first part, the slow burn and tension was just *chef's kiss*

Gender neutrality: this book is queernorm so there's no homophobia. Ead is in love with Sabran, Niclays is gay and Tane seems asexual. Also instead of gendered terms like husband or wife, the book uses words like partner. Position of powers is held equally between men and women. And both Ead and Tane are strong fighters who have trained all their life. There's only one issue with the queer stuff of this book which I will discuss in the cons section.

Standalone Fantasy: lastly I loved that this is a standalone fantasy.

What didn't work

Too much plot: the second half of the book is weighed down by too much plot, which imo was totally unnecessary. There was so much additional new information and twists that it was difficult to keep a track of. For the first half it was an understandable simple plot- there r two dragons; the evil wyrms of the west and the benevolent dragons of the east. And the leader of the wyrms was imprisoned under the earth by Cleolind through a sword. Her descendents, now protect the world from the wyrms in a secret order of mages. In the second half suddenly, it was complicated with two different types of magic, two jewels, there's another second woman (that no one knew about) who together with Cleolind binded the dragons, a witch, a mulberry tree, a comet and what not. That along with too many unnecessary subplots made the book too muddled by the second half

Unsatisfactory resolution of subplot: there are often subplots which are set up or pointed towards, only for them to be quickly (and unsatisfactory resolved) in a few pages without the characters actively overcoming any struggles. Instead the subplots are resolved with a very conveniently timed coincidence. For example, the book sets up Loth going into an enemy draconic kingdom for a good length. People worry that he doesn't get hurt. But as soon as he reaches there, the princess of the kingdom very conveniently tells him she's on his side and the kingdom is suffering due to his father. He's out of the kingdom in 4 pages flat and without any struggle (n the draconic kingdom is rarely explored beyond a few passages). Similarly while he's carrying a box from the princess to the priory, he gets attacked by a wyrm and is conveniently found by a friendly mythical animal who not only saves him but also takes him to the priory (n they don't face any other struggle in the middle). Same way, a civil war was hinted for so long only to be thwarted in a very anticlimatic way before it could even start. Magical weapons are lost and found in the same page.

Passive characters: ties into the above point but everything is very conveniently set up for the characters and they rarely need to struggle. Most of the time they discover important stuff totally by chance or someone tells them everything. Tané finds a jewel stitched inside her body totally by chance, without no build up of it before

Weird queer setting: so like the book is queernorm, same sex relationships aren't looked down upon yet the marriage is between a male and female character tho the reason for that is given to be children.

2. I don't think I really have haha. Labels are confusing, which is why I tend to favour more forgiving ones. But identity isn't just labels. What I do know is that I have never experienced sexual attraction to anyone (excluding a small number of fictional characters - not actors btw! just the characters). I started questioning when I was 13. I figured out I was sapphic immediately, but questioned what it meant to be asexual for a few years after that, then spent even longer questioning if I fit into that box. I finally accepted the label in 2022, at age 19.

Aromantic is a trickier one. For many years I thought there was no way I was aromantic, because I have experienced romantic attraction. About a year ago I realised I am on the aromantic spectrum. I experience romantic attraction to fictional people very strongly at times, but very rarely experience it with real people, and often it is not very strong or doesn't last very long. I also really struggle with telling the difference between romantic and platonic attraction, which may be an arospec thing, an autism thing, or just a Lack of General Human Experiences thing.

I think the absence of something is much harder to identify than the presence of something is. So I find aromantic and asexual to be much harder labels to identify with.

3. Well as I said, the absence of something is harder to identify than the presence of something. Many of the 'representation' I saw growing up, and still today, was characters who weren't actually intended to be asexual/aromantic. They were just characters who showed little to no interest in romance or sex. Which is cool and awesome, but not the same as a character's identity being explicitly talked about and explored on screen.

4. I struggled in the sense that it's deeply confusing to discover you don't experience the same emotions that many other people do. But I wouldn't say it affected me too much.

5. Not... Generally? But I think it has been hard for most people to understand that I genuinely have no interest in sex with other people. When I was 16 my parents bought a pack of condoms that were specifically for me in case I needed them and/or felt too shy to buy them. Which I recognise is good parenting but it really kind of... Freaked me out? I was pretty upset about it for weeks afterwards haha :')

6. Absolutely! Not even necessarily in a 'helping me realise my sexuality' or 'realising it's okay to not feel these things' way, but just generally in a 'helping me realise that all humans have different experiences and see the world differently and have their own different life goals' kind of way! Diversity is so so important to show in media for many reasons. I definitely think I could have figured out my sexuality and became comfortable with it much more quickly if I had seen characters on screen openly talk about what it was really like to be asexual.

7. Sexuality is a spectrum, and I think society is only just beginning to grasp that concept. You may feel sexual or romantic attraction to people with certain genders, certain physical attributes, or certain personalities. And you may feel sexual or romantic attraction to lots of people, or only some people, or very few people, or none at all! You may feel sexual attraction without romantic attraction, or romantic attraction without sexual attraction. You may feel sexual/romantic attraction without having any interest in sex/dating, or you may have an interest in sex/dating without feeling sexual/romantic attraction! Experiencing attraction in all kinds of different ways is totally normal- we are, after all, all different people- and I think it needs to be talked about more.
