Every time I post about being bothered or annoyed by something, someone always comments or sends an ask along the lines of “you just need to let stuff roll off you! They aren’t worth your energy”. And then something about how you can only control you and all you can do is get stronger and deal better

And I get the good intentions. I do. But they’re very invalidating.

I can use every coping skill I have. And sometimes I’m just a bit more emotional for whatever reason and in those moments, me coping is me venting about it. A lot of the time when I vent, I can let stuff go. No matter how much I recover, sometimes stuff will just hit you a bit harder.

Sometimes the thing to say if you want to say something with good intentions is “that sucks” or “your feelings are so valid”. Because a lot of time, people just need to be heard and seen. Your kind intentions about "letting it slide off you" really translate into “get over it” for a lot of us and that feels pretty terrible.

Kinda obsessed with the historical context of Rise of the Guardians. Pitch wanting the Dark Ages to come back, which historically was the decline of culture and records. The Guardians rose at the same time as the Renaissance with the rise of culture, knowledge, and science. (Tooth in particular mentions that she hasn’t been out in the field for 440 years, give or take, which would put that smack dab in the middle of the Renaissance) 

The way Pitch doesn’t want the world to change, the way the Guardians change in tune with the world. The way Jack, who lived in has a human in the 17th or 18th century, who lived in the time after the Renaissance and lived witnessing the world all the way to the modern era, is there to show the Guardians how much they missed and how they can further change and improve for the more modern world. These characters are immortal beings who have so much power over the world, it makes so much sense that when they fall and rise in power it impacts the world that they want to influence, for better or for worse.

Imagine putting your heart and soul into a project because you love the source material, but have to work around certain scenarios because they won’t really translate well to screen, which is fine because you’ve gotten help/blessings from the ORIGINATOR of said source material so you’re feeling really good about everything. Maybe you wish you could change somethings, but you’re proud of the story that you’ve told and how true it is to the HEART OF THE STORY…

Only to then read that some of the fans of said source material think the show is awful and (somehow??) worse than the bad movie adaptations that disregarded the heart of the material (the actually STORY), all because of a casino and either adding or dropping minor story beats.

inks, i get it now. a long time ago u were talking about how the sticks are not actually humans and how interesting it would be for a fic to explore the non-human and purely internet aspects of them rather than treating them as Digital Humans, Basically, and now im trying to do the same thing for cybertonians and explore the alien biology aspects of them but every fic ive read seems to want to treat them like cars

I’m not familiar with cybertronians outside of a vague awareness that it’s what Transformers are, so I can’t really say any different than those fics because I legit don’t know enough about them to make informed statements, but oof I feel your pain. I imagine that it’s easy to simplify them down to just being glorified self-aware shifting car-robots (and even easier to imagine any human characters trying to do that in-universe), as far as how they work and their literal body mechanics, and it must be frustrating to see their potential go unexplored. If you wanna get into specific points feel free to educate me, if it’s anything like my gripe over the stick-fics then I’d love to be able to better commiserate with you.

idk why i thought of this today but something that basically dissolved various identity crises for me is to think about sex & gender as things i do rather than things i am.

this is why the only label that feels comfortable to me really is queer. it’s really broad. it could mean anything.

i find other labels kinda break down if i look at them too closely. woman? like sure, in that i experience the pay gap, but also not really. trans? sure, in that i’m not cis, but i also don’t rly feel like i’m transitioning. lesbian? sure, i feel like i partake in lesbian culture and i’ve not been dating cis men for a while. but i do occasionally feel attracted to them. bisexual? sure, but a lot of people (both in & outside of the queer community) hear that and they think it means like, queer lite, easy mode. all of these definitions vary and i totally understand why it can be super affirming to find a label that fits right but ultimately, for me, trying to find a Definition for my Identity(tm) always ends up going down these super semantic wormholes that honestly … don’t feel super important.

what’s more useful to me than having a Certified Gender(tm) is finding what makes me feel gender. in no particular order, a list of things that feel absolutely gender: velvet, in general, and especially on a blazer; layered necklaces; a particular ring; short skorts; when someone bites into food i’ve cooked and they enjoy it; writing in a notebook i’ve almost finished.

it is a lot easier to define myself by things i do (or wear or choose) than to try and articulate some sort of innate authentic self.

it also kind of nixes a lot insecurity from often hearing the wrong name or pronouns. like … you can she/her me all you want but the strap felt pretty real when my partner was coming on it the other night. 🤷

so yeah. idk who needs to hear this but you Do Not Need labels if the process of finding one is spinning you in circles. you can just like, live here & vibe.

The only reason you’re demanding their opinions on what’s happening in Palestine is anti-semitism. These interactions are built on the assumption that if you’re Jewish, then you’re a Zionist, and that is false. The random Jewish people you’re harassing aren’t experts on foreign policy in the war on terror and why it has failed. Going up to random Jewish people and demanding to know if they condemn Israel’s treatment of Palestinians would be like walking up to a random Muslim person and demanding to know if they condemn Iran’s treatment of pro-democracy protesters. They have nothing to do with the actions of a foreign government.

I think a good thing about being away from social media though is just caring so much less about all the internet argument stuff. It’s so much less stressful just focusing on me and my health and the people close to me.

Especially with AI stuff. Of course I don’t agree with it scraping from artists but I love when artists reclaim it as a tool and I think it should be used as such. You can’t stop a program from existing, it’s useless. But you can make guidelines to ensure it’s uses are ethical and practical — basically to make jobs easier and not over-work artists, not to replace them.

I think there’s so much to still work-out in that regard, obviously.

Another thing that used to stress me out was those “press 3 buttons to save my pet” videos. I always try to do the copy link think and get interactions up but it started triggering me my anxiety which wasn’t good. Have you guys experienced that, and how did you deal with it? /gen
