Can’t believe I never thought of it. The potential is literally endless. You could have Sasuke and Naruto be two brats in the Jaeger military division. Maybe Sasuke comes from a long line of family members who are part of the military so he always has something to prove. Maybe Naruto is just an orphan brat who keeps failing the Jaeger program because he’s “too brash. Too unpredictable. Unable to follow orders”. So he just works as a soldier at the Jaeger base.

Maybe Sasuke and Naruto have been friends since they were young because Naruto is a breath of fresh air compared to the rigid, unforgiving military standard he’s lived his whole life. Maybe he has a crush on this boy who’s one of the few people who can make him smile in this world where he and his brother have to suit up in a robot and fight giant monsters that keep getting stronger. Maybe seeing Naruto is one of the reasons he keeps fighting no matter what.

THEN maybe Itachi gets badly injured and he’s not gonna be able to be a pilot for a long time if ever but this is a crucial time for humans and they NEED pilots so sasuke has to find a replacement but no one is compatible!!! Until Naruto offers and they let him try as a last ditch attempt and holy shit, it works! They fit together perfectly. They are in sync. Better than when Itachi was copilot and everyone is so relieved cause they have their Jaeger back.

But Sasuke is freaking out cause he’s imagining Naruto getting killed the same way Itachi was injured. The Kaijus are getting stronger and more dangerous and they’ve already lost so many pilots so has he just signed Naruto’s death warrant by accepting him as a copilot?

September 1942, London, England

There was a letter sitting on his desk when he returned from his lunch break. Upon a closer glance, he saw it was from General Ross, an American closely connected with intelligence, and Byron had served with him during the Great War. A simple note on the letter that read: Bridager Walsh, the favor you asked for. A. H. Ross.

He stared at the letter, a sense of dread filling him. He knew exactly what the letter was for. 

The letter was brief, though detailed enough to offer a proper explanation. Private Gardenhouse was assigned to the 93rd Infantry Division, which he knew through American intelligence was set to be sent out to the Pacific Theater, not Europe. He could not do what his ex-wife had asked of him. 

He didn’t call Stella until it was late at night, and mostly everyone had gone home. He drank three beers and two glasses full of whiskey he kept hidden in his office before he picked up the phone, listening to it ring four times before it was picked up.

“Gardenhouse Residence,” Stella spoke softly into the phone. “Who is this?”

“Hello, Stella.”

“Byron.”

 “Stella.”

She swallowed, sighing into the phone. “You have news?”

“I heard from the American general. …As you know he’s in the 93rd. It’s not completely decided, and they won’t deploy those boys until they’re completely trained, and you know the Americans will send the white troops first anyway, but… based on training and some classified plans, it is more than likely that the 93rd will be sent to the East and the 92nd will come to Europe. I’m sorry, Stella, I truly wish I could do something.”

She was silent for a while, breathing into the phone, and it became apparent she was trying not to cry. “...It was a long shot, and I shouldn’t have put it on your shoulders. It was a tremendous thing to ask.”

“I’d want to regardless. Carl is a nice boy. He has his father’s ambition and your stubbornness. He’ll get far in life.”

She snorted. “Campbell’s ambition took him a little too far. …Oh, don’t sigh like that, I know what you meant.”

Byron frowned. “If it’s any consolation. It will be some time before he’s deployed. He likely won’t be sent out until next year. Perhaps longer.”

“Do you think we ever could’ve been happy?” Stella muttered bluntly.

“If Lord Thomas Walsh’s grandson had never died. Or if my father and brother hadn’t died. …But I think it would have ended the same regardless. Do you regret eloping?”

“I don’t know. But if we hadn’t, you probably wouldn’t have met your wife, and I doubt I’d have Carl.”

He swallowed. He wouldn’t be saying this sober. “Do you think about it? The child?”

“I did a lot when Campbell died, when I was an alcoholic relying on the charity of my own brother. But now? I don’t think a child deserves to have both of us as parents. It wouldn’t have worked then. It wouldn’t have worked now.”

Byron sighed. “I never told anyone what you told me. Not even to Eleora. But my mind wanders.”

“...How much have you had to drink, Byron?”

“A pint or two. And some whiskey beforehand,” he admitted. “I don’t hold my liquor very well anymore.”

Stella swallowed loudly. “Go to bed, Byron. Enjoy your family. Thank you for looking into Carl for me.” And without another word, she hung up.

Byron sat alone in his office for some time after, staring off at the grey-painted wall, unable to describe how he felt.

Too few people have discussed how, according to Gorrequor’s diary, Hudson Lowe’s wife, Susan, has opinions on Napoleon that seem to be based only, and I mean only, on how angry she is with her husband.

Getting along with dear lil Hudson? She 100% wants Lowe to keep the bust of Napoleon II out of their prisoner’s hands, because she wants to deny him anything that could give him comfort!

Angry at him? Lowe is a pitiless monster, and also, she can and will try to drag anyone in earshot (including Gorrequor) into the debate as to whether Napoleon deserves pity or contempt. At this point she is strongly in camp “pity” and why are you all being so mean to him?

Other about-faces too, based on nothing but apparently vibes and voodoo

Her opinion seems to be based on nothing except how to best irritate her husband and she succeeds

he's back at it, yet another serious death threat has hit car hammer explosion man

in case you were wondering how things went down at the pokemon world championships this weekend:

-during the top 8 of the TCG masters division, chilean player fernando cifuentes was running a gimmick deck that consisted exclusively of four iron thorns ex and a whole ton of control-focused trainer cards in a strategy that either completely shuts down opponents or shits the bed entirely

-through skillful play and some good luck, fernando made it through 2 days in a tournament with over 1100 players to get to the quarterfinals

-fernando lost 2-0 to ian robb, who was running regidrago vstar (widely considered one of the best decks in the current format)

-in an overexuberant victory celebration, ian did what can only be described as a jacking-off gesture, on a stream with tens of thousands of viewers run by a company with very firm player conduct expectations

-the judges determined that this warranted a penalty of game loss, but for some reason, rather than applying it to ian’s next game in the semifinals, they applied it to the one he had just won in the top 8

-(it should be noted that the prize money for making top 8 is $15k while top 4 is $20k, so this jerking gesture cost ian robb $5,000)

-nearly an hour after fernando came to terms with his loss and the end of an impressive run, he was told that he was to get back on stream because he’s now playing in the semifinals due to winning by default

-the player he was up against in the semifinals was playing a deck (miraidon) that happens to get shut down hard by iron thorns’s gimmick, so fernando wins the semifinals

-said player, jesse parker, had notably had an undefeated run throughout the whole tournament up to this point, and likely would have continued that streak had his intended semifinal opponent not gotten a game loss penalty for miming a lewd act on stream

-meanwhile, the other semifinal winner is japan’s seinosuke shiokawa, running a deck (roaring moon) that players had largely written off as underwhelming months ago

-the grand finals are on the following day, so saturday evening was abuzz with a lot of people baffled by the absurdity of the situation

-come sunday afternoon, the grand finals are set to begin, with fernando cifuentes running iron thorns and seinosuke shiokawa running roaring moon

-it should be noted here that the roaring moon deck doesn’t rely very much on abilities, so iron thorns’s gimmick has very little effect - this is basically an even matchup

-fernando wins the first game of the set, and seinosuke wins the second

-the third and final game of the set is a bonafide cheek-clencher, with both players reaching a state where a single KO will win the game, but fernando manages to clinch it at the last minute

-and that’s the story of how a guy pretending to jork it led to the first instance of a pokemon world champion who also lost the quarterfinals
