ok someone please correct me if i'm wrong but am i weird for thinking those 'audiobooks don't count as reading' posts are ableist as fuck????

#ramble #my first thought was like: how is this even a debate what about blind people. not every book comes in braille but MOST have an audiobook #or dyslexic people #you still enjoyed the book!! you still absorbed it!!! you got EXACTLY the same thing as people who read the words!!!#how does it not count????#i guess you miss out on the 'learning new vocab' you get through seeing the words but also #i don't really do audiobooks but i do a lot of podcasts esp fiction podcasts #and i have ABSOLUTELY picked up new stuff from there that helps with my writing #someone please explain how this is even an argument of COURSE it counts????#idk in my opinion finishing a book means 'i put the words in my brain and i thought about them and i enjoyed a story'#not 'i held a stack of paper in my hands for a bit'#i'm v lucky that i do have time to sit and read. and whenever i commute anywhere it's public transport so i CAN bring a book with me #but if i didn't have the free time or had to drive for hours everywhere i would be STOKED to still get to enjoy books #it's been REALLY bothering me lmao idk why i feel so strongly #for some reason it's giving the same energy as like. being told you can't take a comic or manga from the library bc it's not a 'real' book #of course it's a real book it's a story somebody wrote down #i can see this spiralling into 'if you have a kindle you aren't reading'. you have to sniff the paper. feel the papercuts

Rereading the Our Worlds at War tie-in again and God I miss their friendship every day

#they're such an underrated dynamic from this series #like throughout yj98 there's a definite distance between tim and everybody else since he can't reveal his identity to them #and cassie is definitely way closer to cissie and kon and bart than she is to him bc of that distance #and you can feel that awkwardness here in the way she apologizes to him immediately -- they're not at the level #where she can just shout and be mean to him and know it'll be fine -- not like she is with cissie or kon #but for tim -- i think he is at that level? like he wouldn't shout at her either but that's cause he's generally sweet to the yj girls #he doesn't butt heads with cassie like he does with the guys - but i also think she's someone he trusts to have his back in a very real way #and i think it's really telling that when everybody was confronting him about batman's contingencies it was CASSIE'S opinion #he asked for -- like she was the last person he thought would think that of him #obligatory 'the two people who died in his granny goodness nightmare were cassie and kon'#idk there's such an undercurrent of care even if they don't get as many 'this is my best friend' moments like some of the others #aghhhh #and the way cassie so clearly respects his opinion and is so worried he'll be mad at her when she replaces him as leader #the way she's the first one to hug him when he comes back to the team after he quits #oof. A lot of the time when people bring up Bart Allen as being super autistic coded, they're bringing it up in conjuction with the rest of YJ (which, yes, I love autistic friendship) but sometimes I just wanna talk about Bart Allen.

I wanna talk about the kid who doesn't understand he's getting bullied and managed to be friends with everyone because of it. I wanna talk about the kid who is so bad at holding a conversation everyone thinks he's some sort of brooding asshole. I wanna talk about the kid who KNOWS that the older, more popular kids talk to him and dare him to do stupid stuff because "of course Bart will do it" and does it anyway because he likes making people laugh. I wanna talk about the kid who knows he's doing something wrong socially but he doesn't know what and wants nothing more than to fix it. I wanna talk about the kid who knows he's different but still thinks the rest of the world is the problem. I wanna talk about the kid who's so smart and so brave but everyone only sees him as some mess-up idiot. I wanna talk about the emotional kid who got bullied for being robotic and unemotional because allistic people can't grasp what his world looks like. I wanna talk about the kid who wouldn't know sarcasm from truth. I wanna talk about the kid who's low-empathy but does everything he can to be compassionate. I wanna talk about the kid who's surrounded by people, but still feels so alone because no one else understands his world.

Sometimes I just wanna talk about Bart Allen.

A small spider-man 2099 reading guide

Just watched atsv and wondering where to start getting into Miguel O’Hara? Hate trying to figure out comic timelines? Well hopefully this guide can help a little bit. Please note its far from a definitive guide and could probably use some work but I'm hoping it helps someone out! Also not including spider-verse appearances or those in most other comics, because we could be here forever listing every comic appearance and this is meant to be a quick guide Miguel's original appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #365, but that was more of a preview than anything else. I've split it pre-2000's and post-2000's, but listen to me if you have to pick one comic to read out of all of this make it the original 1992 run. You basically cannot go wrong with just reading 1992. A few have been marked with asterisks because you really don't have to read them but it felt wrong to not include them on the list.

Pre 2000's

Spider-man 2099 (1992): Literally Required Reading. Keep in mind that the last two issues had different writers and are kinda disregarded by just about everyone. Issue #16 starts the crossover event Fall of The Hammer, a mini-guide to which I've included below. The Special and Annual take place in between issues but it's easiest to just read them last.

Spider-Man 2099 Meets Spider-Man (1995): It's short, it's sweet, give it a read.

*2099: World of Tomorrow (1996): At the time this was meant to close off all the 2099 plots, theres lots of other 2099 characters in here but a fair bit of Mig.

*2099: Manifest Destiny (1998): Further closure to the 2099 world, again lots of other characters but still a solid read. Basically waves away the last two issues of sm2099 (1992) in a slightly hilarious way and worth reading just for that.

Post 2000's

*Superior Spider-man (2013) issues #16-19: Largely set up but its cool too

Spider-man 2099 (2014): You can read this without the Superior Spider-man setup but depending on your prior comic reading experience you may be a bit confused. If you're a seasoned reader and used to taking weird comic shifts in stride due to missing some random issues of a completely different comic you'll be fine

Spider-man 2099 (2015): Solid run, I don't have much to say about it honestly

Marvel's 2099 (2019 event): you are better off looking up a separate guide for this one it is not my ballpark

I can just see Bruce doing a mental tally of bad deeds each Batkid has committed before he announces who's in charge prior to leaving. Just a little scoreboard he keeps updating.

Also, I feel Bruce complicates leadership without him because he leaves different failsafes and access codes in the hands of different batkids. But it means they, being obnoxious siblings to one another, totally lord over their singular ability to access something over the others.

#approximately twenty issues later she will see her boyfriend being kissed by another girl and immediately ghost him and take his old job.#no questions asked #in this issue alone she gets irritated because (wait for it) tim appears to be making friends with his elevator boy #there were plenty of moments in steph's characterization that were....shall we say....male-writer coded #but for real though i have such a soft spot in my heart for steph's jealous streak (and her repeated denial of it)#she's so clearly spent so much of her life without feeling especially loved by anyone in particular. and now she has tim #who tends to be much more secure in his relationships and genuinely DOES think steph is perfectly fine with him having other friends #(BECAUSE SHE HAS TOLD HIM SO AND HE TAKES HER AT HER WORD)#but she's plagued by the fear that she'll lose him. and that fear scares her too #another instance of steph not really *getting* tim's boundaries honestly #altogether genuinely one of the most teenaged girl things ever #she's imperfect and i love her for it with all my heart #i support women's wrongs.#stephanie brown #spoiler #oli reads comics
