I'm still making a reading order collection for DC in my phone's notes app (despite/maybe because of me still having a head cold, this is one of the few things i seem capable of applying my energy to). And the one thing i'm discovering: christ, there's too many characters. I have to account for all those back-up features in the 40s (like Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle, The Star-Spangled Kid, Green Arrow, etc). I have to account for all those Fawcett and Quality characters (Captain Marvel/Shazam, Plastic Man, Ibis the Invincible, etc). And then there's just all those stupid obscure characters DC had regularly back in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Eclipso, The Creeper, Mark Merlin, Metamorpho, Zatanna, Red Tornado, Deadman, Blue Devil, Amethyst of Gemworld, etc. Christ, there's too many characters. Say what you want about Marvel, but they were a comparatively smaller and newer business, which means it's easier to track 60s and 70s Marvel comics. DC is like a goddamn maze.

I know we've reached critical mass with my the passenger obsession bc I'm at the point of thinking my favorite thing about the movie is the hopefulness scattered throughout. the way Randy hopes again and again that Benson won't hurt him and might actually help him. the way Benson hopes he really might be able to save this kid from himself. the point they reach where, just for a little bit, they both hope they have more time. the hopefulness of Randy trying to do the right thing, trying to save everybody. the hope of a little kid who wants to be a giraffe someday. the hardest part of the movie is when everything becomes bleak but it tries, at the very end, to be hopeful again. maybe Randy can still live for both of them, which is all Benson ever hoped for in the first place.

You know, looking at a diet soda can it occurs to me that it might not be so wretched to me if the cans weren't so unpleasant
Like we know that things like color play a role in how our brain perceives things, and I realized looking at the can that they're always this bland but at the same time nasty looking silver and it just... it looks foul and I think that compounds with the fact that I also just plain don't like diet soda
My point here isn't to say anyone else shouldn't like diet soda, just how I never realized how much of an impact the can has on me not liking it... there's just something offputting about it to me

Thinking about that scene in Stone Butch Blues where Jess and Theresa are arguing and Theresa says that he-she is just a cruel thing people call her to belittle her but Jess says that they are right, there is something different about her, she isn't a woman in the way other people would recognize. Augh I have never felt an original emotion ever (/pos)

time and time again i'm impressed by like. the multitudes of smugness expressed in the umineko soundtrack. Like, it's not just that certain songs "sound smug" or whatever; it's that they'll sound smug in a very specific, describable way. I don't even know that much about music, but I'm tempted to just list off tracks that stand out to me and write about them in depth or something.
