HELP! I ACCIDENTALLY AMELIORATED CARS 2! Part 3! (NOT FOR KIDS! NSFW!)
[The scene transitions back to Radiator Springs, where morning light filters through the windows of the schoolroom. Sally and Lightning sit together, the air filled with a sense of quiet anticipation. Lightning holds a letter in his wheels, his focus intent as he reads its contents. Luigi waits patiently nearby, his expression curious.]
Lightning McQueen: [Reading aloud] "Dear Lightning, I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to express my gratitude for your kind words about 'The Garage of Rust-eze.' Your support means the world to me. Best regards, Mater."
[As Lightning finishes reading, he carefully folds the letter and tucks it into the pages of "The Garage of Rust-eze," Mater's book, which sits prominently on the table before him. Sheets of notes, meticulously taken by Lightning for his upcoming review, are scattered across the tabletop.]
Sally Carrera: [Observing] Mater's book seems to hold a special place in your heart.
Lightning McQueen: [Nodding] Yeah, Mater's always had a unique way with words. It's the least I can do to show my support.
As Sally races laps around the training track, her wheels spin with determination, but she encounters some difficulty navigating the twists and turns. Lightning watches from the sidelines, concern furrowing his grille as he observes her struggle.
Sally Carrera: [Panting] Lightning, I need to talk to you.
Lightning McQueen: [Approaching] What's wrong, Sally? You seem off your game today.
Sally Carrera: [Sighs] It's Flo. I saw her with Leland in the garage, laughing together. I think she's in love with him.
[Lightning's tires skid slightly at Sally's revelation, his expression a mix of surprise and uncertainty.]
Lightning McQueen: [Defensive] Sally, you know that's not true. Flo's been our friend for years. She wouldn't...
Sally Carrera: [Interrupting] Don't play dumb, Lightning. I see the way you look at her. You're jealous of Leland.
[Lightning's grille tenses with frustration as Sally's accusations hit home. He tries to refocus the conversation on Sally's race training results, but her emotions are already running high.]
Lightning McQueen: Sally, let's talk about your training results. I've...
Sally Carrera: [Interrupting, her voice rising] Training results? You gave me an "Alpha minus"! You think my races are just for ego-stroking, don't you?
[The tension between them escalates as Sally expresses her desire for races that spread love and happiness, rather than mere competition.]
Sally Carrera: I want races that make every car happy, not just the winner!
[Lightning tries to redirect the conversation to the history of great female racecars, but Sally's frustration boils over, her words dripping with resentment.]
Sally Carrera: [Voice trembling] I hate those great female racecars! They gave away everything out of love and weakness!
[As emotions reach a breaking point, Lightning decides to prove Sally wrong, timing the laps she struggled with and finding them perfect. But Sally, overwhelmed by her emotions, accuses Lightning of cheating before fleeing the room in tears, leaving Lightning alone with his thoughts.]
Doc Hudson strides into the room, his presence commanding attention, with Mater trailing behind him. Mater, ever the stickler for protocol, insists that Lightning address Doc directly when Mater wants to speak.
Mater: Lightning, when I want to talk to ya, ya talk to Doc. Got it?
[Lightning, caught off guard by Mater's directive, hesitates before complying, addressing Doc as if he were Mater.]
Lightning McQueen: Alright, Mater. What's on your mind?
[Doc, perplexed by Lightning's sudden change in behavior, furrows his grille in confusion. Mater's patience wears thin as Lightning continues to address Doc as if he were Mater, a misunderstanding that only serves to exacerbate tensions.]
Doc Hudson: Lightning, I ain't Mater. What in tarnation are ya goin' on about?
[Mater's frustration reaches a boiling point, his voice tinged with irritation as he demands Lightning's attention.]
Mater: I told ya, Lightning! Address Doc when ya wanna talk to me!
[Before Lightning can respond, Flo enters the room, her presence a welcome distraction from the mounting tension. She delivers a message to Mater, her tone cheerful despite the underlying tension in the room.]
Flo: Mater, Leland would like a copy of his book. He's been asking for it.

au where sally is the rich famous racecar who gets tired of racing and drives for miles and miles only to find a small town called radiator springs
nd everyone’s going crazy trying to look for her because!! the sally carrera is gone without a trace right before a tiebreaker race with her, chick hicks, and the king, but she isn’t actually worried about that
she’s busy schmoozing the hudson hornet’s son monty and not much else could matter to her. this nice couple named flo and ramone has taken her in, shes set to work on fixing up the abandoned motel, and this is finally something she can see herself spending her entire life doing
except monty mcqueen-hudson, who she’s fallen head over heels for, is very wary of racers just like his father. she tries her best to win him over and again and again they go out in secret, sally learns the town’s history and monty falls very much in love with this sweet racer from california
she recognizes the hudson hornet almost immediately and takes all the tips she can get from him. he wants her out and away from his son monty and she knows it, but this persistant racer isn’t leaving anytime soon and hud knows that too
sally gets a shiny new paint job, pretty white wall tires, lets lizzie fit her with an insane amount of bumper stickers, buys a can of fillmore’s oil and sarge’s surplus
monty fixes all the neon lights because he knows sally will love them, they play lizzie’s music and they’re still extremely saccharine
doc calls the press, monty loses it in anger and packs his bags to go see sally race in california, hud sighs and knows that his decision has been made very clearly for him.
he’s getting back into racing, and radiator springs has another, baby blue resident.

STATS:
Name: Dante Hudson McQueen
Age: 18
Orientation: Heterosexual
Status: Dating Skye Crophopper
Career Choice: Racing Pilot
Birthdate: January 15
BIO:
Dante is the eldest of the 7 McQueen kids. He’s the older twin by 7 minutes which he reminds Elise of whenever he can. Dante and Elise were born through surrogacy and are biologically Lightning’s kids. Dante is very attached to Elise. They spend a lot of time together even if it means Dante following her around on her ‘adventures.’ Dante loved Radiator Springs where the McQueen kids had grown up with Lightning and Francesco. He was the one kid that was at every one of his Dad’s races. From the moment he could walk, he needed to go fast. Lightning had taught him to drive around in the late Doc Hudson’s car. He had a lot of affection for the old car and the man who had helped his dad be who he was. He was his namesake, after all.
He always knew he’d race but he had fallen in love with flying. His Uncle Dusty had taken him for a flight and the rest was history. He’d struggled to tell his parents even though he knew they wouldn’t care. He was the only son and he wanted to carry the McQueen name on the track but the skies were calling him. Lightning had hushed his worries when he asked him if he wanted to go to Dusty’s school. He’d always loved the Crophoppers and falling into his Uncle’s routine had been a piece of cake.
He dedicated all his free time to his flying lessons and tried his best to keep up his grades. His father was very strict about it and even though he got detention often for being a bit of a prankster, he tried his best. The McQueen’s attended Radiator High and were well-known as the troublemakers thanks to Dante. It didn’t help that he got into fights at least once a week.
When they got too out of control, Lightning decided to send them all to Walt especially after Sally was born but before school started, Francesco took them to Italy but Dante chose to stay behind to watch his Dad’s last race of the season. He was going for his 23rd Piston Cup. Dante never imagined that it would be his Dad’s last race. His father lost control of the car and crashed. Dante had to be the one to deal with it and it almost broke him. Lightning fell into a 3-month coma and while Fran dealt with the pain, Dante held his family together. It was a rough lesson but they came out on the other side.
Dante decided to race the next season for his father. Once the man woke up and wasn’t allowed to race due to his heart injury, Dante knew his aspirations didn’t matter for the moment. He couldn’t let his Dad’s company not have a racer. They ran into trouble when Dante knocked out another rookie racer defending Nina and was disqualified and banned. Dante was shocked when his flower child twin, Elise, took up the challenge. He worked with her during the season before Lightning got Cruz to replace her for the next as the McQueens started the adventure that was Walt Academy.
PERSONALITY:
Dante is determined, honest, intelligent, and kind. He is the best brother and his sisters love him dearly. He goes above and beyond for anyone he holds dear. He’s also a big nerd. He loved comics and often goes to cons. He’s a big sap and will sit with Elise and watch the saddest movies they can think of and cry with her because she’s convinced him he needs to express himself more. Dante also has a tendency to get angry quickly. He snaps in seconds which is usually how he ends up getting in trouble. He’s quick to fight especially when it involves his sisters. He knows they’re capable of handling themselves but no one messes with them and gets away with it.
CONNECTIONS:
The Crophoppers – Dante gets along with them pretty well because of his pretty relaxed personality. They all grew up together and come from the same background. They spent so much time together it was hard not getting attached. Dylan even lived with them for a while and it was nice having another guy around for a change. He loved his sisters but he was tired of having his nails painted.
Skye Crophopper – He hadn’t seen it coming but before he knew it, he was head over heels and it took him a while to tell her because they were constantly pranking each other and he was afraid she wouldn’t take him seriously. They were together now and it was his best decision. They still tried their best to outdo each other but it was more affectionate.
The Carreras: Dante loved his Aunt Sarah and his cousins. She was the funnest person to have around. She not only proved time and time again that she was the best lawyer but she was fun to watch interact with his parents. His cousins were very easily what made life in Radiator Springs fun.
Astor Carrera – Dante was very attached to Astor. He was always around his Dad’s shop and it was hard not to like him. They were both the boy twins and could vent to each other about their respective sisters. He was always amazed about what Astor could come up with it. The kid was a genius but he had to stop trying to upgrade Dante’s plane.

Day 4: What’s Brewing In Bristow
Day 4 photo gallery available on SmugMug.
You know you’ve had too much sun when you look up at overcast skies and give thanks.
That’s what happened shortly after breakfast today, and no one had any cross words to say about the dark, ominous clouds and occasional sprinkles. After three days of blazing sunshine on the road, we all needed a respite. Turns out that cloud and 70 was just what the doctor ordered.
Day 4 of PAC Tour started out extremely early, in an effort to get across OKC before the 9-to-5 crowd could get out and about. So we rolled out shortly after 6:00, before the sun crested the horizon. It was a good call, as we beat much of the morning rush. Even after we had to detour because of an overpass out over I-235, we made it to Jimmy’s Egg in Edmund for the official breakfast with very little congestion.
A few miles east along the route is Arcadia, with a rather unique mix of new and old only a few hundred feet apart. First up is Pop’s, perhaps the most unique of convenience stores in the US. Its huge batwing roof over the pumps is evocative of Googie architecture. The cool towering soda bottle (which glows in neon after dark) attracts all passersby. And on the inside…well, let’s just say if you don’t find a soda you like here, you must be a little weird. With more than 500 unique sodas in the cooler, Pop’s (hence the name) aims to please all with something cold and refreshing.
Right down the street is the fully restored Round Barn of Arcadia. Built in 1898 and returned to its current condition in 1992, the Round Barn is a historic attraction as well as event venue (think: weddings). Although round barns are more typically found in the Midwest, they can be found in all 50 states, as well as a couple in Europe. This old barn has been through the entirety of Route 66 history, through thick and thin, feast and famine.
And today we can still enjoy it.
From there we dodged raindrops and enjoyed the cool temps. Winds were negligible as we turned off onto the oldest 66 alignment to go past where Jim Ross (our speaker last night) and Shellee Graham live. Right down the street from them is an interesting anomaly along the Route: the junction where two contractors met face-to-face in 1928, one pouring Portland Cement as his road building medium, the other spreading asphalt.
The junction is rather profound, although it is easy to miss and not pay a single thought. A small concrete obelisk sits on the north side of the lane signifying this was a Federal Aid Project.
In what seemed like no time, we had rolled past Luther, the Seaba Station (a motorcycle museum), Wellston, and then to Chandler for another museum visit. At this point, the group split into different lunch parties, with some eating in Chandler, and others opting to wait until Davenport and Stroud. But the best (in my humble opinion), was at the Rock Cafe in Stroud.
The Rock Cafe is owned by Dawn Welch, who was the inspiration for Sally the Blue Carrera in the Cars movie. The restaurant appeared on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2008, then burned in 2009. All that remained were the sturdy rock walls (hence the name…again). Dawn rebuilt and reopened, and continues to serve locals and Route 66 travelers alike. I recommend the Spaetzle with Cheese, as well as the peach cobbler with ice cream. But be prepared to find a nice napping location.
This only left another 18 miles to our finish in Bristow, but not before a slight detour into the near-ghost town of Depew. This is a perfect example of how roads were built a century ago, with much political wrangling going on to ensure that roads always went through the center of town…even if it meant going out of the way. Cooler heads and smart minds prevailed, though, and by the early-1930s, Route 66 had bypassed Depew…pretty much dealing it a death blow.
It was in Depew that I interviewed five of our riders to gain insights into what they like about the eastern half of Route 66. Watch the video here.
All told, it was a very pleasant 90 miles…not necessarily easier in terms of hills, but certainly a lot more tolerable.
So what’s brewing in Bristow? Not much at all. It’s a sleepy little town, and we’re all headed off to sleep ourselves. Tomorrow we’ll be livin’ on Tulsa Time. Gonna set our watch back to it.
Nick
