Elijah Muhammad is arguably the most significant figure in the history of Islam in the United States.
Successor to W. D. Fard, the founder of the Nation of Islam, and a mentor to Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad led the Nation of Islam for over forty years. In Elijah Muhammad and Islam, Herbert Berg focuses on Elijah Muhammad's religiosity, which is frequently brought into question as the authenticity of the Nation of Islam as "truly Islamic" remains hotly debated.
To better comprehend this powerful and controversial figure, Berg contextualizes Elijah Muhammad and his religious approach within the larger Islamic tradition, exploring his use of the Qur'an, his interpretation of Islam, and his relationships with other Muslims.
Above all, Berg seeks to understand—not define or label—Muhammad as a Muslim. To do otherwise, he argues, is to misunderstand and distort the man, his teachings, his movement, and his legacy.

We're stunned by this beautifully bound anthology of Persian poetry, created in the 16th century!
Attributed to present-day Turkey or Iran, the manuscript features ornate gold detailing and pages painted with watercolor and ink. It contains poetry by Amir Shahi of Sabzavar (Iranian, born in Sabzavar–died 1453), Maulana Nur al-Din `Abd al-Rahman Jami (Iranian, born 1414 in Jam–died 1492 in Herat), and Nasir Khusrau (Iranian, born 1003–died circa 1066).
The pages are composed using qita’i, a découpage technique in which letters are cut from colored paper and carefully arranged on contrasting folios.
The full anthology is part of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's open access collection and available to view on JSTOR.

Every Israeli Accusation Is A Confession

“Hamas radicalizes their kids to hate and kill Jews”
No. It’s the opposite: Every Israeli accusation is a confession.

Brother Khalid Abdul Muhammad (1948–2001) was a prominent African-American activist and orator known for his unapologetic views on race and social justice. He was a fiery speaker and a great figure in the fight against systemic racism and oppression.
Khalid Muhammad was born Harold Moore Jr. in Houston, Texas. He attended Dillard University in New Orleans, where he studied theology. Later, he furthered his studies at Pepperdine University in California. It was during his college years that he became involved with the Nation of Islam (NOI).
Khalid Muhammad rose to prominence within the Nation of Islam as a minister and a top aide to Louis Farrakhan. He became the National Spokesman for the NOI and was known for his powerful speeches advocating black empowerment, self-reliance, and resistance against white supremacy. However, his incendiary remarks, particularly in a 1993 speech at Kean College, led to his suspension from the Nation of Islam.
After leaving the NOI, Khalid Muhammad became active in the New Black Panther Party (NBPP), an organization that claims ideological lineage to the original Black Panther Party but with distinct differences such as being more pan african centred. He became the group's chairman in 1998, using his leadership to expand its platform of black empowerment and militant resistance to racial injustice.
The NBPP, under Khalid Muhammad's leadership, was known for its radical and militant stance. It advocated for black self-defense, reparations for slavery, and independence from systemic oppression. Critics, including members of the original Black Panther Party, accused the NBPP of distorting the original Panthers' legacy and focusing more on confrontational rhetoric.
Khalid Muhammad's speeches often emphasized black pride, self-determination, and unity. Khalid Muhammad supporters viewed him as a fearless advocate for the black community. His death in 2001 from a brain "aneurysm" marked the end of a contentious but impactful career in activism.

I want you to know Malcom X hated Israel along with most people during the civil rights movement
"Most people during the civil rights movement" except for Martin Luther King and his family, Bayard Rustin, A. Phillip Randolph, Rosa Parks, John Lewis, Elijah Cummings, and hundreds of others, you mean?
Basically all activists involved in the civil rights movement respected Jews and Israel. You are of course permitted to ignore them in favor of faketivists who raise awareness on OF.

As for Malcolm X, there's a lot about him if you check the comments / reblogs; basically, he was extremely antisemitic for most of his life because that was the doctrine that the Nation Of Islam cult preaches. After going to Mecca and getting a taste of non-culty Islam, he changed his mind about Jews and apologized, then NOI killed him.

Brother Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little, later El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, May 19, 1925 – February 21, 1965) was a prominent African-American, Pan African, Muslim minister, human rights activist, and revolutionary leader. He became one of the most influential and controversial figures of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, advocating for Black empowerment, self-determination, and resistance against systemic racism. Known for his eloquence and fiery rhetoric, Malcolm X challenged the status quo and inspired millions with his call for justice and equality.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Malcolm’s early life was shaped by racial violence, poverty, and the tragic loss of his father, a follower of Marcus Garvey. After a troubled youth and time in prison, he joined the Nation of Islam (NOI), where he rose to prominence as a minister and spokesperson. During this period, Malcolm advocated for Black nationalism, separatism, and self-defense against racial oppression. His speeches, writings, and leadership gained him international attention, as he condemned white supremacy and urged African Americans to reclaim their cultural heritage and pride.
Malcolm X's Pan-Africanist beliefs became a central focus after his break from the Nation of Islam in 1964. His pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) transformed his perspective, leading him to embrace Sunni Islam and the notion of global solidarity among oppressed peoples. He founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU), modelled after the Pan-Africanist ideals of leaders like Kwame Nkrumah and Julius Nyerere and Malcolm called for unity among African nations and the African diaspora to combat colonialism, racism, and exploitation.
Malcolm X’s advocacy extended beyond the United States as he linked the struggles of African Americans to global liberation movements in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He inspired revolutionary thought and action worldwide, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance, cultural pride, and resistance to oppression.
Tragically, Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21, 1965, in New York City. His legacy as a fearless leader and Pan-Africanist visionary continues to resonate, influencing movements for social justice and liberation globally.

you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.
#wwdits#nandor the relentless#Nandor#what we do in the shadows#i think its obvious by how much Nandor loves to read that he grew up educated#it's one of my favorite character traits of his#anyways#this was just your local psa abt the depth of Nandor's character and intelligence#and how the medieval islamic world was like - so much more advanced than it's western counterpart it's hilarious how ppl mischaracterize it#(by hilarious i mean it makes me want to break something)#this was in my drafts lolol what did i read that made me vent this? idk#also 'islamic world' is just a term some historians use to describe a specific geographical location and historical age#kind of how 'western world' is used today#it doesn't mean it's specific to one religion or nation but the broader time and location#meaning that Al Qolindar or Persia or Ilkhanate or w/e you want to call where Nandor came from#the same expectations of education and it's vibrant social/cultural world remain an accurate image of the middle east in the medieval age#if you come from the west like me#think The Forum + The Library of Alexandria + Paris/Florence + and idk anything else u think of when u think of 'Western Excellence'#and then imagine of all of that in one place at one time and then u might get close to what the world Nandor was living in as a human

Jews Selling Blacks - The Nation of Islam
Jews Selling Blacks - The Nation of Islam
The title* says it all. Included are 140 pages of ads reproduced from American newspapers of the slavery era. There are Jews selling Blacks as individuals, in gangs, and as families. Jewish community leaders—and even rabbis—offer to buy and sell Black human beings without any moral compunction.
When Blacks tried to escape, Jewish slave owners used the newspapers to track them down. Jews acting as slave auctioneers, slave shippers, and insurers of enslaved Blacks also placed ads. Jews bought and sold whole plantations—slaves and all—and they marketed slaves who ranged in age from infants to the elderly.
In addition, Jewish merchants arranged bank financing for the purchasers of Black men, women, and children—Black slaves on layaway.
144 Pages • First Edition, Second Printing 2010
