So, this is quite a rant. You can skip to the bottom, if you want to know my opinion but don't want to read that much... But I worked hard on it and I think it's important, so it would make me very happy if you read through the whole text.
So this fits into something I wanted to post about anyway: a broader theme of why do we frame things as wars? Like, why is it culture war, specifically. First I liked the concept, I thought it described something quite complicated reasonably easily. But I pondered on it a bit more and I think there's more going on.
It's pretty trivial, that most societies went through a huge change over the last half century. It's not just feminism. I could make a whole list of things we as a people took on. Anti-racism and civil rights, religious acceptance, global trade, reinterpreting the meaning of peace, connecting the word through the world-wide web, etc. We ( or, as I am barely an adult and have no idea how to change things for the better, I should say you, or maybe chat) decided it was time for change, so change came. You brought it about.
And I agree. Change WAS and IS necessary. What that change should entail, well, we all have our ideas, right? And they have the ugly tendency to differ from each other. The question then is, how do we coincide our contradictory ideas on society? The answer is both worrying and very important.
To be fair, our race doesn't have a great track record on solving these kinds of issues. I dug into my historical knowledge, since, you know, those who don't learn from it, repeat it... The only thing I can compare to what's happening today would be the Reformation (which probably says a lot about my historical knowledge). That's the only time I know, where societal assumptions were altered so much in such a short time. That time it was specifically about the Catholic church (if you don't know, what I'm talking about, you really should, so Google it), and the result was a series of wars, that ultimately may have wiped out about a fifth of Europes population. The wars were of course led by powerful men, who capitalised on the divide to further their own goals.
As back then, now too, we can't rely on institutions to tame the public. Many media and political identities have a direct interest in polarising society. Because that's what happens. All these contentious issues about gender, class, or foreign policy become dividing lines between folks who are supposed to be parts of the same whole (call it community, state, nation or humanity, depending on how wide you can think). You know, how it works, probably saw it a few times, whatever your interests are. It's literally everywhere! We fight it out with the perceived enemy of the week sometimes, when there is an election, something notable happens, or it's simply Pride Month. Then everyone goes back to their respective corners, where they vehemently agree with themselves. We don't talk a lot, just throw words at each other, like Buggs Bunny, playing tennis with a dynamite.
I should say, this post is a notable and refreshing outlier. Thanks, @trans-androgyne , for starting a discussion for a change!
I know, it's a bit like nuclear armament. You can't just stop, because THEY won't, and then they win, and you can't allow that. It's life and death! And I don't have some magic pill to make it all go right, or believe me, I wouldn't sit here, typing this out at 3 in the morning Central European Time. But let me propose this: don't call it a war! Neither culture war, nor gender war, nor anything like that. Because this isn't a war. Just ask anyone in the middle east! They can tell you, what is war, and THIS IS NOT IT! And also, because it may not be guns and destruction yet, but nothing guarantees, that it stays that way. We already had multiple attempted takeovers of capital buildings since this cursed decade began, because our social reality became so fragmented, that you can't accept the results of a popular election anymore. That should raise alarm bells. I know it does, but it can be much worse! Learn from history, do not repeat it! Hit the Wiki page on the Huguenot war! On the siege of Magdeburg. Or, if that's not your cup of tea, watch Civil War! I genuinely think it's the best movie of the year.
Call it Social Discourse! That sounds much more manageable, doesn't it? Or you can come up with something else, as long as it isn't some warmongering bullshit. And maybe the next time you meet someone with sexist, homophobic, racist, or maybe radical left and anarchistic views (whatever you're opposing), don't attack them with your words! Those aren't weapons. Try to talk to them instead! Try talking about feelings! Listen to theirs, make them understand yours! I say feelings, because you both have those. Try finding a common ground, however small, and build up from there. Like Minecraft Skyblock. It can be hard in a challenging way, instead of making you want to shoot yourself in the head. Remember, you aren't fighting a war. You are having a discourse.
All of it is to say, the world and society are changing, wether you like it or not, and we have to change with it, to survive. That is the simple fact. If you call that change a war, that's just gonna make the whole thing unnecessarily painful for everyone involved.

Genuinely, what happened to âfeminism is for everyoneâ?
Thatâs the feminism I grew up with: encouraging people to recognize that fighting sexism and restrictive gender roles helps folks of every gender. Weâd push back on the idea that feminists hate men, pointing to inclusive feminist literature and how many men are feminists.
Now, there are so many people insisting that the solution to patriarchy is to openly hate and ostracize men no matter what. Why? What is the benefit? Itâs certainly not effective in fighting oppressive structures to exclude half the population from your cause on the basis of immutable traits. It may feel cathartic to say horrible things about men and try to punish them for your frustrations with patriarchy. But the only actual effect I see is the increasing right-wing radicalization of young men, who are being told that the left hates them for the way they were born and presented with an abundance of proof that itâs true.
Why are we going back to treating men and women as different species? It doesnât fix things to say âwell women are the good gender and men are the bad oneâ this time. If you sincerely want to dismantle sexism, youâre going to have to unpack and let go of all sex and gender essentialismâeven that which considers women inherently pure and men inherently immoral.

ok fine cis men aren't the bad gender it's all men and we're all exactly like that anon who admitted to having abused women even if we don't know it. are you fucking happy now? is this the solidarity you want us to feel with cis men, that we're all just as mich rapists and murderers of women as they are? you have some fucking nerve to be throwing vague jabs while calling an admitted abuser "brave"
Normally I don't platform asks like these, but I'm moved by the genuineness of your emotional reaction here. I think you're hurting, and you've been hurt, and that the belief that abuse and violence are located within one gendered group (to which you don't belong) has felt like a way of organizing your world that has helped you make sense of things, and given you guidelines for how to act and whom to trust that have helped keep you safe. I think a lot of assault survivors feel that way when they're not cis men and their attackers were cis men.
As someone who has experienced a ton of sexual predation at the hands of cis women, cis men, and even other trans people, I don't feel the same way. There is no "bad gender" I can chalk up my abuse to. I find there are no easy means of categorizing entire people as abuser or as victim either -- I have known so, so many people who have occupied both roles depending upon the power they wielded and the social context of the moment. Hell, one cis lesbian that I knew who was infamous in her community for raping trans men would always tell her victims that her acts were those of "trauma recovery," of her "reclaiming" her power after men had stolen it away.
Even she, I don't think, is irredeemable or ontologically evil.
I'm an abolitionist. That's a core value through which a lot of my political action and beliefs flow. If you're not on board with the project of abolitionism, you'll find much to object to here, and most of your objections are things I will refuse to entertain, because I do not believe human beings are disposable no matter what they do, and I don't believe that anyone should have the authority to deem another human being as disposable.
An abolitionist politics is incompatible with the idea that some people or some groups are inherently bad. It's incompatible with the belief that abuse and violence comes from evil. It's a worldview that holds that people do harm because of social structures and networks of power that must be destroyed -- systems like the patriarchy, cissexism, anti-Blackness, ableism, capitalism, and more. And I think one of the ways that we conquer such oppressive systems is by raising the consciousness of all the people trapped under it -- so that we can topple it together. I want trans men and cis men alike to realize they have some skin in the game.
You don't have to associate with the men you don't want to associate with. If, because of repeated abuses at the hands of men, you can't ever trust them, well, those are your feelings, that's your life, that is your business. But when your personal feelings of safety are used as a justification for developing and promoting a worldview with transphobic, transmisogynistic implications, I'm gonna talk shit about that on my stupid little blog. And I'm gonna continue conducting my life in the way I feel I should.
And for me, that means forging common ground between trans men and cis men, and pushing both groups to take women's concerns seriously (especially trans women's concerns) and to stop centering themselves in feminist dialogue. There's a place for both trans men and cis men in the gender revolution, but we gotta do a lot of work on ourselves to stop getting in the way. It's work I'm emotionally equipped to do and find rewarding, and it's fine if you don't. There are lots of other people who need support that you can focus your energies on -- other survivors of abuse and assault that you perhaps find it easier to relate to. That's important work too, and I wish you well in doing it. Just make sure you're not excluding trans women in that work or I'll continue to be annoying about it on my stupid little blog.

Galeâs analysis: Why Bowser is a good king?
Now many of you look and see this egotistical turtle and think he is actually a tyrant. One that is a scourge on the mushroom kingdom, a power hungry monster that wants only to get what he wants.
And in a way youâre right. But just because you attack another kingdom doesnât mean youâre a bad king. In fact, bowser is a prime example of a spectacular ruler.
Now to be a good ruler, one must be able to do the following:
-Be able to be recognized as a ruler (people respect your title)
-Land/property in which the ruler rules.
-Loyalty of his/her subjects
-Bringing prosperity to kingdom and subjects
And if we really look at this list. Bowser clears all of these by a wide margin.
His initial title is King of the koopas. King bowser. And everyone in the mushroom kingdom is aware of his title and his role. He is even considered a monarch in Mario and Luigiâs bowsers inside story. When a meeting was held by the blorbs.
Bowser also has Countless castles. Sure Mario and Luigi constantly crush them. But he easily gets them rebuilt. Also there were countless planets occupied by Bowser in the Super Mario Galaxy series. In terms of land, bowser owned a LOT.
Loyalty of his subjects. His minions love and fear him. He respects them, and whenever there is an attack or invasion on his minions. He goes out of his way to save them. And even if they left, he holds no grudge. If they betray him, then he gets angry, but even then he does offer second chances. The elite trio are proof of that. Kamek and the koopalings often explain to bowser jr. How much they respect the big koopa. And his minions obey without question. Thatâs a true mark of loyalty.
Bringing prosperity to his kingdom and subjects. Bowser Litterally has countless castles. Air ships, coins galore. His kingdom is well financed and he is shown often upgrading his minions.
Bowser is taking care of his kingdom, you donât get THAT many statues of your visage without having capital.
In a way, Bowser is a lot like Dr.Doom. Sure heâs seen as a villain by the rest of the world, but his people LOVE him. Doesnât matter what your enemy believes it what your subjects think thatâs what matters.

Frev Friendships â Robespierre and CouthonÂ
âŠMoreover, donât forget to remind me of the memory of Lacoste and Couthon. Robespierre in a letter to Maurice Duplay, October 16 1791, while away on a leave in Arras.Couthon, Lacoste and PĂ©tion are the only of his friends that he mentions in the letter. Considering Couthon came to Paris after being elected for the Legislative Assembly on September 9 1791, while Robespierre was away from the capital between October 14 and November 28, the two must have befriended each other quite rapidly. In a letter dated September 29 1791, Couthon reveals that he has moved into the house of one M. Girot on Rue Saint-HonorĂ© (the same street where Robespierre lodged), and according to Robespierre (1935) by J.M Thompson, the Almanach royal for 1792 gives Couthonâs address as 343 Rue Saint-HonorĂ©. So the proximity between their lodgings might have been a contributing factor.
My friend, I anxiously await news of your (votre) health. Here, we are closing in on the greatest events. Yesterday the Assembly absolved La Fayette; the indignant people pursued some deputies at the end of the session. Today is the day indicated by a decree for the discussion of the forfeiture of Louis XVI. It is believed that this matter will be further delayed by some incident. However, the fermentation is at its height, and everything seems to presage for this very night the greatest commotion in Paris. We have arrived at the outcome of the constitutional drama. The Revolution will take a faster course, if it does not sink into military and dictatorial despotism. In the situation we are in, it is impossible for the friends of liberty to foresee and direct events. The destiny of France seems to leave it to intrigue and chance. What can reassure us is the strength of the public spirit in Paris and in many departments, it is the justice of our cause. The sections of Paris show an energy and wisdom worthy of serving as models for the rest of the state. We miss you. Couthon, whose infirmities give a new value to his patriotism⊠[âŠ] Lettres de Maximilien Robespierre Ă ses commettans, number 1 (September-October 1792)
During the first three months of the session of the National Convention, the members of the Puy-de-Dome deputation fraternized and dined together once a week. Couthon then never ceased to pour out invectives against Robespierre. Once I told him that I thought Robespierre an intriguer. âSo you call him an intriguer,â he answered me with vivacity, âYou are too nice, I regard him as a great scroundel.â I heard him, in the presence of several of my colleagues, one day when the deputation was summoned to his house, say: âI no longer want to live in the same house as Robespierre, I am not safe there; every day we see a dozen cutthroats coming up to his house to whom he gives dinner. I do not know how he managed to meet these expenses before being elected to the Convention, while my allowances are barely enough for me to live with my family.â He often applauded the fact that the entire deputation professed the same principles, and that, consequently, we would always be united in heart and mind. This was Couthon's opinion at the time, and he held to it until the constitutional committee was formed. He had the ambition to be a member; he becomes furious at not being inclined to it. This was the time when Couthon changed his opinion, abandoned his conscience to indulge in his passions. Dulaureâs claim that Couthon for a time lived in the same house as Robespierre is confirmed by lâAlmanach national, an II (cited in Paris rĂ©volutionnaire: Vieilles maisons, vieux papiers (1906) by Georges LĂȘnotre) as well as by a letter dated October 4 1792 Couthon wrote to Roland from Rue Saint-HonorĂ© n. 366 (Robespierreâs address) asking for rooms in the Tuileries, saying that he must move out of the house within eight days (Roland responded with a negative answer four days later). When exactly he moved in is however harder to pinpoint. According to Robespierre (1935) by J.M Thompson, the Almanach royal for 1792 still gives Couthonâs address as 343, not 366, rue St. HonorĂ©, and in the article The Evolution of a Terrorist: Georges Auguste Couthon (1930) Geoffrey Bruun writes that Couthon moved to Cour de ManĂšge 97 in 1792. It can therefore be concluded that Couthonâs stay on Rue Saint-HonorĂ© n. 366 was most likely rather short. Couthonâs motivation for moving out, aside from Dulaureâs claim that he disliked Robespierre, could also be related to the fact Robespierreâs brother and sister moved in with the Duplays shortly after he wrote the letter to Roland.

Robespierre notes this expression: âfor fear that Couthonâs speech will not be heard.â Couthon will be heard, he said, and I maintain that the representative assembly has no right to stifle his voice any more than that of anyone else, because the Convention is not a power above the rights of its constituents who have invested every deputy with the sacred right to express their wish, and one could only obstruct this by an attack against liberty, and by trampling on national sovereignty. Robespierre takes this opportunity to recall the maneuvers of a large party of the Convention, to violate this sacred right that each member has to make his voice heard; and we see, he says, this game of intrigue played out every day with incredible modesty. In the Constituent and Legislative Assemblies, which despite their perversity, at least knew how to respect the freedom of opinions, Couthon's patriotism, which his infirmities make more interesting, never served the most perverse men as a pretext to stifle his voice. Robespierre therefore invites us to come out strongly against this new system of villainy, and to never allow a deputy to ever be deprived of the ability to express his opinion. He ends by supporting the impression of Couthon's speech; it is put to the vote and adopted. Robespierre makes sure the Jacobins print one of Couthonâs speeches regarding the trial of the king, after protests that they ought to wait until itâs been pronounced at the Convention as well, January 6 1793
If you want, and it would be a crime to doubt it, to preserve the liberty, unity and indivisibility of the Republic, you cannot hesitate to adopt Couthon's proposal [to issue a proclamation that the Insurrection of May 31 saved liberty] at once. To begin a discussion on this question would be to allow the conspirators to come to this rostrum to make new declarations against Paris, with their ordinary perfidy. The proposal [to have Robespierre enter the Committee of Public Safety] was made to the committee by Couthon and Saint-Just. To ask was to obtain, for a refusal would have been a sort of accusation, and it was necessary to avoid any split during that winter which was inaugurated in such a sinister manner. The committee agreed to his admission, and Robespierre was proposed. Memoirs Of Bertrand BarĂšre (1896) volume 2, page 96-97. Couthon was elected to the Committee of Public Safety on June 10 1793, Robespierre on July 27 1793. In his memoirs, BarĂšre pushes the thermidorian idea that the two plus Saint-Just formed a âtriumvirateâ within the committee. On page 146 of the same volume he nevertheless also writes that Robespierre and Saint-Just rarely came to the committee, instead working together in a private office.
Robespierre, Saint-Just and Couthon were inseparable. The first two had a dark and duplicitous character; they pushed away with a kind of disdainful pride any familiarity or affectionate relationship with their colleagues. The third, a legless man with a pale appearance, affected good-nature, but was no less perfidious than the other two. All three of them had a cold heart, without pity, they interacted only with each other, holding mysterious meetings outside, having a large number of protĂ©gĂ©s and agents, impenetrable in their designs. RĂ©vĂ©lations sur le ComitĂ© de salut public (1830) by Prieur-Duvernois. Later in the revelations, Prieur nevertheless also writes that âCouthon was never difficult on the Committee; there was no altercation until the day before 9 Thermidor, when the moment to throw away the mask had arrived.â
The National Convention, citizens colleagues, witnessed with pleasure your entry into Lyon. But its joy could not be complete when it saw that you at the first movements yielded to a sensibility way too unpolitical. You seemed to abandon themselves to a people who flatter the victors, and the manner in which you speak of such a large number of traitors, of the punishment of a very few and the departure of almost all, have alarmed the patriots who are indignant at seeing so many scoundrels escaping through a gap and going to LozĂšre and mainly Toulon. We therefore wonât congratulate you on your successes before you have fulfilled all that you owe to your country. Republics are demanding; there is national recognition only for those who fully deserve it. We send you the decree that the Convention issued this morning on the report of the Committee. It has proportioned the vigor of its measures to your first reports. It will never remain below what the Republic and liberty expect. Beware above all of the perfidious policy of the Muscadins and the hypocritical Federalists, who raise the standard of the Republic when it is ready to punish them, and who continue to conspire against it when the danger has passed. It was that of the Bordelais, of the Marseillais, of all the counter-revolutionaries of the South. This is the most dangerous stumbling block of our freedom. The first duty of the representatives of the people is to discover it and avoid it. We must unmask the traitors and strike them without pity. These principles alone, adopted by the National Convention, can save the country. These principals are also yours; follow them; listen only to your own energy, and carry out with inexorable severity the salutary decrees which we address to you. Committee of Public Safety decree to the representatives in the newly entered Lyon, among them Couthon, written by Robespierre on October 12 1793. Couthon had left Paris for a mission to the army of the Alpes already on August 21 1793.

[Collot] has been strongly denounced for his conduct in Lyon, after the recapture of that city. But I was witness to the fact that he only accepted this mission with the greatest reluctance, and that Robespierre skillfully employed the strongest solicitations to persuade him to do so, alleging that he alone was capable of combining justice with the necessary firmness, that Couthon had become moved on the scene and cried like a woman; finally a host of reasons to highlight the importance of exemplary punishment against the rebels of this unfortunate city. RĂ©vĂ©lations sur le ComitĂ© de salut public (1830) by Prieur-Duvernois. While Prieurâs testimomy is written long after the fact and therefore deserves to get treated with some caution, the claims he makes here are to an extent collaborated by a letter from Collot to Robespierre dated November 23 1793, where he claims it was âon your (ton) invitationâ he went to Lyon.
Couthon proposes that the Society take care of "drafting the indictment of all kings", and that it for this purpose appoints commissioners responsible for collecting the particular crimes of tyrants. This proposal, warmly applauded, is adopted. On Momoro's motion, the Society appoints Robespierre, Billaud-Varennes, Couthon, Collot d'Herbois and Lavicomterie as commissioners. âŠYesterday, Robespierre held a very eloquent speech on our political situation. As soon as this speech has been printed, I will send it to you, it deserves to get read. Couthon in a letter dated February 6 1794, regarding Robespierreâs speech On Political Morality, held the day before.
Couthon and Robespierre enter the hall; all the members and citizens in the tribunes demonstrate through their applause the satisfaction of seeing these two patriots again. Journal de la Montagne describing a triumphant entrance to the Jacobin club made by Couthon and Robespierre on March 13 1794, after both had been ill for a few weeks.
âIn the absence of my brother,â said Mlle Robespierre to Gaillard, would you like to try to see Couthon? He prides himself on being good for me, I will ask him to receive you, he will not refuse me, I will precede you by a quarter of an hour, he will give the order to let you in and we will exit together.â Gaillard gratefully accepts, takes the address of Couthon who lived at n. 97 of the Cour du ManĂšge, today rue de Rivoli, near rue du 29 Juilliet, and the next morning arrives at the indicated time. Couthon, whose face was truly angelic, wore a white dressing gown. A child of five or six years old, beautiful as Love, was between his father's legs; he had a young white rabbit in his arms which he was feeding alfalfa. Mme Couthon and Mlle Robespierre stood in the embrasure of a window overlooking the Tuileries.
âYou are,â said Couthon to Gaillard, a friend of Mlle Robespierre, you therefore have every kind of right to my interest, tell me, citizen, how can I be of use to you?â [Gaillard then goes on to explain his errand to Couthon] âCitizen,â continues Gaillard, with great emotion, you are convinced that the signatures of these addresses have not committed a crime, you are all-powerful in the Committee of Public Safety where your opinion always prevails. Today, seventy unfortunate people are being led to the scaffold, their condemnation based on nothing other than the signing of these addressesâŠâ
Couthon's face changed, he suddenly takes on the tiger's mask, makes a movement to grab the bell pull... Mlle Robespierre rushes at him to stop him (he was paralyzed from the legs down), turns towards Gaillard and says to him: âSave yourself!â In the confusion into which all this throws him, Gaillard takes Couthon's hat, she notices it, warns him, he runs across the apartment and reaches the stairs. He had barely gone down eight or ten steps when he heard Mlle Robespierre shouting to him: âGo and wait for me at the Orangerie.â [âŠ] [Gaillard] has barely gone down into the courtyard of the Orangerie when he goes back up onto the terrace, looking anxiously to see if his good angel was arriving. As soon as he sees her, he runs towards her, loudly asking her five or six questions at the same time without paying attention to the crowd around them. Mlle Robespierre, calmer, tells him in a low voice that she will answer him when they have reached the Place de la RĂ©volution.
âExplain to me, please,â said Gaillard to Mlle Robespierre as soon as they were offshore, âyour haste to tell me to take flight flee and why you held back Couthon in his chair?â
âYou were fooled, my dear monsieur, by the profound hypocrisy of Couthon, I was completely fooled myself; I believed your judges saved and you forever at peace like all the signatories of these addresses to Louis XVI... Couthon only showed himself to be so good-natured in order to get to know the depths of your thoughts, you fell into his trap, I could not have avoided it more than you. Your bloody and so justly deserved reproach regarding the 63 victims of today struck in the hearth, my presence, even my confidence could not have stopped his vengeance. The members of the Committee of Public Safety each have five or six men at home who are resolute at their command, because they are constantly trembling. Is it not known to all citizens since the sessions of 12 and 13 Fructidor, that the decree of 22 Prairial was the secret work of Robespierre and Couthon, that it never, in defiance of all customs and all rights, was discussed or communicated to the Committee of Public Safety? It is unclear if Robespierre and Couthon really were alone in having drafted and/or supported the Law of 22 Prairial. The idea that they were was also lifted by Prieur-Duvernois in his RĂ©vĂ©lations sur le ComitĂ© de salut public (he claims Saint-Just was also in on it), Fouquier-Tinville in his Requisitoires de Fouquier-Tinville (he claims that, in the days the law was being worked out, Billaud-Varenne, Collot d'Herbois, BarĂšre, Carnot and Prieur told him it was Robespierre who had been charged with the project) and Laurent Lecointre in Robespierre peint par lui-mĂȘme et condamnĂ© par ses propres principes (1794) (he claims Robespierre wrote the law and confided only Couthon with it). If all these sources are to be treated with caution given their authors and the time they were written, it can nevertheless be established that Couthon and Robespierre (the first one in particular) are the only ones where any direct involvement in the development of the law can be traced, and that they did fight side by side (and harder than any other committee member) against the Convention to get it passed on both June 10 and June 12.  Iâve written about this more in detail in this post.

Couthon, all the patriots are proscribed, the entire people have risen up; It would be a betrayal not to join us to the Commune, where we are now. Signed: Robespierre the older, Robespierre the younger, Saint-Just. Letter urging Couthon to come to HĂŽtel de Ville. According to HervĂ© Leuwersâ Robespierre(2014) this letter is in Augustin Robespierreâs hand. According to 9-thermidor.com Robespierre and Couthon, alongside Augustin, Saint-Just, Le Bas were all declared under arrest by the Convention around 1:30 PM. Around 5 PM they were taken to the Committee of General Security and served dinner, before getting seperated and taken to different prisons between 6:30 and 7 PM. Couthon was the last to reunite with his friends at HĂŽtel de Ville at around 1 AM, less than an hour before the building was stormed.
The two Robespierres were [in the meeting room], one next to President Lescot-Fleuriot and the other next to Payan, national agent. Couthon was carried into the room a moment later; and what is noteworthy is that he was still followed by his gendarme. On arriving he was embraced by Robespierre, etc. and they passed into the next room, which I entered. The first word I heard from Couthon was: âWe must write to the armies immediatelyâ. Robespierre said: âIn whose name?â Couthon replied: âBut in the name of the Convention; is it not still where we are? The rest are only a handful of factions that the armed force we have will dissipate, and of whom it will bring justice.â Here Robespierre the elder seemed to think a little; he bent down to his brother's ear; then he said: âMy opinion is that we write in the name of the French people.â He also, at that moment, took the hand of the gendarme who entered with Couthon and said to him: âBrave gendarme, I have always admired and esteemed your body; always be faithful to us; go to the door and ensure that you continue to embitter the people against the rebels.â Letter from H. As soon as Couthon entered [HĂŽtel de Ville], three or four members led him away, and two or three presented him with papers and ink. Robespierre and Couthon said: âWe cannot write to our armies in the name of the Convention or of the Commune, given that this would be stopped, but rather in the name of the French people, that would work much better,â and, instantly, Couthon began to write on his knees saying: âThe traitors will perish, there are still humans in France and virtue will triumph.â Robespierre took the hand of gendarme Muron and said to them both: âGo down to the square immediately and energize the people!â Testimony of gendarmes Muron and Javois, who escorted Couthon to HĂŽtel de Ville. Cited in Autour de Robespierre⊠(1925) by Albert Mathiez, page 224-225. The HĂŽtel de Ville was stormed somewhere before 2 AM. At 5 AM, the injured Couthon was brought to lâhospice dâhumanitĂ© (HĂŽtel-Dieu de Paris), before joining Robespierre at the Committee of Public Safety. At 11 AM the two plus Gobeau were escorted to the Conciergerie prison and locked up in individual cells. According to number 675 of Suite de journal de Perlet, released two days after the execution, Robespierre and Couthon sat in different tumbrils when they around 6 PM got driven to the scaffold. Couthon was executed first, Robespierre second to last.Â

Throughout his first year as a deputy, Couthon appears to have been closer to the âgirondinsâ than the âmontagnards.â In a letter dated January 3 1792 he calls Brissot and Condorcet âtwo distinguished patriots with superior talentâ apropos of their recent works calling for war. On January 19 1792 he expresses his own support of France going to war in another letter, and on April 20 1792 he was among the deputies that voted in favor of war with Austria (only seven did however vote no). In a letter dated September 1 1792 Couthon calls the Insurrectionary commune to which Robespierre belonged (and, according to some, dominated) â[a] municipality led by a few dangerous men [that] seems to ignore decrees, and believes itself above the first power,â expressing his hopes that âthis distressing confusion will soon end and that the Municipality of Paris will cease to consider itself the Municipality of the whole Empire.â A week later, September 8 1792, he reports that âthe functions of the ardent chamber of the people have been broken since the evening before last, due to the care of the brave and virtuous PĂ©tion.â In the letter to Roland dated October 4 1792 previously mentioned, Couthon still calls him âbrave and estimable minister.â But just a week after said letter had gotten penned down, October 12, he more or less broke with the girondins, when he at the Jacobins said they were a group composed âof gentlemen, subtle and intriguing, and above all ambitiousâ that âwish a republic because popular opinion has demanded it, but they wish it aristocratic, they wish to maintain their control, and to have at their disposal the offices, the emoluments, and especially the finances of the state,â and ending by calling for all energies to be turned against âthis faction, which desires liberty only for itself.â (Bruun speculates this was due to him not having gained a place on the Committee of Constitution within the girondin dominated Convention the day earlier). This move surprised Madame Roland, who in a letter dated October 14 urged Bancal to âgo and see Couthon and reason with him; it is incredible that such a good mind allowed himself to speak out in a strange way against the best citizens.â
Throughout their time on the Committee of Public Safety, Robespierre and Couthon often rose up together at the Convention and the Jacobin club to speak for or against certain subjects. Besides the law of 22 prairial, the two also joined sides against petitioners talking with their hats on (December 20 1793), against Dufourny (March 18 1794), the establishment of a police bureau (April 16, April 18 1794). They helped contribute to the expulsion of both Rousselin (May 25) and Dubois-CrancĂ© (July 11) from the Jacobins, and joined hands in speaking for arresting âany individual that dares to insult the Conventionâ (July 24 1794). It was Couthon who asked for the printing of both Robespierreâs On Political Morality Speech on February 5 1794 as well as for his report on Religious and Moral Ideas on May 7 1794. As for Robespierreâs final speech on July 26 1794, Couthon proposed and got through âthat it be distributed throughout all of the Republic.â At the jacobins later the same day he proposed the immediate exclusion of all those who had voted against the printing of the speech, and once again he had his way.
On July 3 1794 we find a CPS decree signed by Collot, Carnot, Saint-Just, BarĂšre, Billaud and C-A Prieur ordering Couthon to go to the army of the Midi, an order that he never followed through with. This could be interpreted as Couthon understanding Robespierreâs enemies were plotting againt him by trying to send him away, but choosing to stay at his side and share his fate.

Liberal and Leftist men are becoming increasingly sneaky in presenting their woke misogyny. Theyâll use âtheoryâ to explain why access to womenâs bodies is actually a good thing, and totally not aligned with patriarchy at all! Just as a conservative man would pick up his Bible to tell a woman why her body belongs to her husband completely, both types of men are serving their own best interest. Iâll give credit where itâs due, Dworkin was correct in assessing the similarity in the supposed âdifferencesâ between political men. Male sexual âneedâ is at the core of both ideologies. It doesnât matter religion, political leaning, economic class, race, or century, womenâs bodies have remained a resource. Men have always sought to control reproduction via womenâs wombs, and no revolution or rapture is going to change that.
Itâs important for women to not participate in menâs blame game, faulting the very systems they created in order to further dominate women. As a woman, the man most likely to hurt you is one of the same race, religion, social, and economic class. Heâs not harassing you because heâs poor, but because of degeneracy and entitlement. Physicality is a male minded obsession because it distracts from the truth. Itâs really THOSE menâs fault, not ours. As if male allegiance doesnât span across continents, centuries, and space itself (misogynist have landed on the moon.)
Unfortunately, no matter where you go, the story remains the same. Women in Mesopotamia didnât experience sexual slavery because of capitalism. Of course our world needs fixing, but only intelligent women are capable of that, and it wonât come from removing a single system alone. Theyâre all interconnected. Built upon each other, because sexual entitlement is at the root. Men have leveraged money, race, and all other physical and political distinctions, to better monopolize their position. Nobody wants to dismantle patriarchy, only rid the parts of it that personally put them at a disadvantage.
The money game is becoming harder to win, so now economically unfit men want to do away with it. Guess what resource theyâre going to redistribute first? Your body. The worldâs poorest are women, and their male peers donât seem to be making it any easier on them. Yet, women are supposed to believe that male behavior is all due to one particular economic system? Are these institutions detrimental? Yes, but not for the reason XYâs claim.
The only allegiance you should have is to likeminded women who practice self preservation. Everyone else is trying to convince you that a lack of sex is oppression. Sex is seen as a resource, and if money canât âpay,â another loophole will be found. Our world has been built upon the notion of sexual access and paternity being given away to the highest bidder. Whether they pony up cash, blood, or scripture, doesnât matter. The intention remains unchanged. So called progressives put on pretty performances, deceptively disguising ulterior motives. Stay sovereign, there are better courses of action to take.

How to make your practice more ethical and eco-conscious (and less expensive!)
When we begin practicing witchcraft, and even when we consume a lot of witchy-related content online, itâs easy to get swept up in aesthetics and consumerism and lose touch with the essence of witchcraft: communion with nature. The worst thing that could happen is for our practice to harm the earth more than it heals it. This can manifest in a number of ways: buying endangered herbs and incense, unethically sourced crystals, not cleaning up after your rituals, etc. Here are some ways to make your practice more eco-conscious:
1. Use what you already have.
Your pantry is probably already stocked with a plethora of spices, herbs, oils and whatnot. Instead of buying a âprettierâ version of those products, use them as they are or diy something. Ingenuity and creativity are great qualities to nurture as a witch! Need protection? Use dried crushed eggshells. Need to cleanse? Use rice, it absorbs energy! etc. Most of the time, you can find a replacement for the specific item described in a spell in your pantry. Instead of buying tons of books, borrow them from your public library and take notes in your notebook!
2. When you do buy, buy ethically and consciously.
There are so many online shops out there selling ethical products that are the same price or barely pricier than store-bought products, especially regarding crystals (I donât have any names popping up right now, but theyâre so easy to find). This also goes for candles, oils, incense, etc.
3. Be patient.
This sort of follows the last point. You donât need 16 crystals right as you start your practice, nor that mega pack of candles at the dollar store. Most witches build their kit as time goes by; nobody starts with a fully stocked altar, and nobody expects you to. Be patient, focus on the items that you really want or need, and donât buy every little thing that piques your interest. Buy less, buy better.
4. Buy locally.
Help your local businesses if you can. Shipping produces a lot of carbon dioxide, so avoid it as much as possible. The market is small and your local esoteric store (if you have one) is probably struggling. Theyâre also a great way to meet witches in your community and learn about local events! Of course, itâs always good to ask even your local business if they source their products ethically. If they donât⊠well, choose the option that causes lesser harm. When shopping online, try to go to shops in your area, or in your country. The further you buy, the more carbon dioxide you produce. You can also find books, candles, scarves, veils and more at thrift stores!
5. Let go of aesthetics.
The internet has us believing that a witch looks a certain way, acts a certain way, dresses their altar a certain way, has a Book of Shadows that looks a certain way. Step away from all that noise, focus on what makes sense to you and go from there. If you already have one (or multiple) empty notebook that you donât use, use it instead of buying another one for your magical practice (and decorate it!). Dress your candles yourself! Donât buy into the âwitch aestheticâ, it was created by capitalism to push us to buy more. Instead of accumulating, practice! Owning a lot of trinkets wonât make you a witch, practicing will.
6. Avoid endangered herbs and incenses (as well as herbs used in a specific closed practice).
There are a lot more endangered herbs than you know. We often hear of white sage, which is not only endangered but belongs to closed indigenous practice, but that also includes frankincense, sandalwood, dragonâs blood⊠do your research before you buy something! Do not contribute to the depleting of global resources. You probably donât âneedâ that particular endangered herb for your spell. If you can, grow your own herbs for your spells! Their energy will be even stronger and befitted to you.
7. Source your information ethically!
Unless an author has specified they allowed readers to, do not pirate their books. Support your fellow practitioners, first, and second, the author might have put a hex on their book intended for pirates. Jason Miller definitely does (Iâve learned it the hard way). Also, do not buy books just for the purpose of having them. Having a stocked library does not make you a knowledgeable witch, reading does. Your local public library probably has dozens of books that relate to your practice: esoteric books as well as books on local flora and fauna, meditation, cooking with local ingredients, gardening, seasons, mythology, your local religion, the history of witchcraft/witch trials, etc. A lot of authors also have blogs where they post articles and advice outside of their books.
Side note: Audiobooks are a fully valid way of reading witchy books. Spotify Premium has complimentary audiobooks from Scott Cunningham, Ray Buckland, Jason Miller, Harmony Nice and more.
8. Do NOT use ChatGPT.
ChatGPT emits 8.4 tons of carbon dioxide per year, more than twice the amount that is emitted by an individual, which is 4 tons per year, not to mention each message you send to ChatGPT produces approximately 4.32 grams of CO2. Using ChatGPT to help you verify information, help you build a routine or write a spell is incredibly polluting and harmful to the environment. It also steals content from honest creators and steals revenue from them. Stay away from AI as much as possible.

being a contrarian under the cut, apparently. look away, sigh, and shake your head at me in disappointment, etc. what is this blog if not my corner of the internet?
call me an old-fashioned grouch or joyless ghoul but i did not need a 10 minute short film that utilized ai (if not plain cgi, which is better in my mind and yes there's a difference owing to the teams of people involved, although it can still create the uncanny valley) to recreate the likeness of leonard nimoy* and did whatever it did to william shatner (uncanny valley, i gaze upon ye with an uneasy heart!) in order to "canonize" k/s** for me or to finally depict a happy, reunited ending for them from the official creators and their heirs. there's no soul or life to be truly seen in their faces in the short and it hurts because nimoy and shatner are phenomenal actors who know how to subtly (or not-so subtly given shatner's use of melodrama lol) depict emotion. imagine, watching an actor you know excels at subtle emotional reactions (kirk's eyes as sarek initiates that meld! everyone jokes about kirk looking at spock with heart eyes but that was billiam just reacting!) and seeing nothing but flickers and half-starts owing to de-aging from a computer program that still cannot truly recreate the depth of human emotion.
*there's so much to be said about consent and a person's legacy with ai especially (cgi is not blameless in this either if it was just straight computer graphics. dead actors do not get to grant their consent over their image, their heirs do) i do not believe for a minute that nimoy would've supported such a thing had he been alive and with us today. shatner, yes--because he doesn't care! he honestly doesn't care about his image in any respect, at any point in his career, no matter his reputation as an egomaniac (playing a racist bigot in the intruder when his prior filmography was spotty at best was a risk, his spoken word albums that he took so earnestly originally despite people laughing at them from the go, the man himself has lampshaded how far making an ass of himself has gotten him), believe it or not. god grant me that mindset, please--but not nimoy. nimoy always cared more.
**air quotes because it is vague, no words are exchanged between them, just the holding of hands that acts as a direct homage to the motion picture's "this simple feeling" scene. again, i know i should be happy about it but it just left me with such a sour feeling. we had to wait until now to do this? we had how many years of nimoy being with us prior to his death but what, now the timing is right? it's disappointing that this wasn't offered sooner, when nimoy was still alive. i can live with shatner being shatner, but the issue of nimoy and who controls the image and likeness of the dead bothers me.
i don't know how else to phrase it, but for me, fandom isn't invalidated by a lack of acceptance or direct canonization from the source material's creators or even a belated course-correction for a long-standing storyline. i realize i should be happy about what this short means for kirk and spock given what the later movies to do them (but if i don't ever watch them, then they simply do not exist to me, right? right! that's the beauty of choosing what parts of canon to accept for fanon and k/s have plenty of canon story to them prior to those later films) but this fandom has already built its legacy without the capital C of Canon from the creators and their heirs given its longevity and the sheer amount of transformative works from the past 57 years (look at the fics that are set in the period after the 5 year mission that seek to understand how kirk and spock separated since the film did not address it, but fans saw that gap and wanted to fill it), and there are some things that become lost when nuance and plausible deniability become exchanged for certainty and only one possible lens to view from, not that i necessarily believe this short does that because as i said it is a callback to tmp and it is clearly meant for the fans, otherwise it wouldn't have been a 10 minute standalone short.
and it isn't lost on me that i've seen the posts on here arguing against the need for canon k/s only to see the overwhelming support for this short as their canonization. it feels hypocritical, especially given the looming issue of, "do you really trust a corporation to handle their relationship with the love and care that the fandom has? what will become lost if this is a sign for further canonization in another series?", although it's understandable why so many people would love this short film and change their minds, on top of it is as nebulous as "this simple feeling" and the t'hy'la footnote in how they do not speak any word of love. i love that the in-between that k/s exists in will always be ours <3
i really am happy that this short is bringing so much joy to people given the times we're living in, but it really did not do anything positive for me, despite hoping otherwise. (i really cannot overstate my issues about nimoy and seeing shatner look so stunted in his reactions because i do earnestly enjoy watching him act).

one thing i really appreciate about jinshi's character is how he has NEVER once actually had any intention of succeeding the throne. every time the idea is brought up he immediately detests it. so hes giving maomao as much as he possibly can, even though maomao has many qualms about it due to their difference in social status, but jinshi DOESNT CARE because hes NEVER cared about or wanted the status of crown prince! its been nothing but a burden to him! from his perspective the ONLY thing keeping the two of them apart are outside influences. he has no doubt within himself-- hes horribly down bad, in fact. but unfortunately his stupid JOB is getting in the way of him skipping off into the sunset with his favourite little cat

the average person doesn't expect you to be a perfect ethical consumer, that's not possible for the vast majority of us. but what youre saying is it's better to do nothing at all and choose the worst possible options (sweat shops, overseas shipping waste, idea/product theft, all wrapped up in SHEIN) than to put even the tiniest effort in where you can.

I think it's still a good thing to try to ethically consume; I literally never said it wasn't. I had never even heard of SHEIN before. Rather, I am much more concerned about what I saw as arbitrary gatekeeping based on ability and income.
And frankly how dare you claim that I am supporting sweatshops and abuse by saying that this additional work you are demanding (in this case, presumably, vetting every clothing company you buy from) is not always possible for people. It is not a light accusation to accuse me of supporting abuse.
"How dare you say we piss on the poor", Etc. đ this isn't Twitter. You are determined to enforce moral purity, but you are failing to see the nuance.
Because when I say "no extra bandwidth," I mean no extra bandwidth. This is not the "car shows it's on E but actually secretly it has a lot of gas left" situation that abled people constantly assume disabled people mean when they say they are at their limit.
This is "the car has stopped moving, and to move it I'd have to break my body pushing it." This is "at a certain point, people will hit a wall in terms of money and time and energy, and any energy spent after that comes directly out of their life force."
So the argument "okay but just spend a little more time money and energy actually" is not a valid one.
And the argument "if you are not able to do this specific task, then it means you're not doing anything else to make the world a better place" doesn't exactly impress me either. You said yourself that it is impossible to be a perfectly ethical consumer for most people.
How do you know what else people are doing to resist oppression? How many hours per week until your standards are met?What if someone works 3 jobs? Does that mean it's harder to be a good person if you're poor?? Why do you get to decide what specific avenue of bettering the world is the most morally repugnant or acceptable? What kind of proof of goodness and effort would make you satisfied enough to lay off on the shame?? Who are you helping??
Clothing is a fundamental human need, and some of us have to buy cheap fucking clothes quickly. Billionaires are buying their seventh yacht this month. The people who own fast fashion companies are abusing their workers and putting local affordable clothing stores out of business - and this applies for basically every company with price points that low because governments are failing to regulate corporations to enforce basic human rights.
I have $300 to spend on a new wardrobe as my old clothes have fallen apart or become too small. Do you have a way for me to get a new winter coat, 3 flannels, 10 shirts, 3 dress shirts, new sandals, 10 pairs of pants, 5 bras, 12 pairs of socks, and 10 pairs of underwear within that budget and also definitely 100% ethically sourced, with free returns in case it doesn't fit? Or will I simply have to use the cheap stores?
I have about an hour to spend on this per week. Many mainstream stores doesn't make clothes in my size, and I am now in *year 5* of needing an electric wheelchair and being unable to get one; plus I live up a flight of stairs, so I can't even bring my walker out with me - so thrift shopping is not gonna cover this. Should I continue to wear small and tattered clothing until I have the time, money, and energy to meet your standards?
Did you know there are more empty homes in this country than homeless people? If I decide to splurge on only 100% ethically-produced products, and I can't make rent, and I become homeless, are YOU going to be there for me?? Or are you too busy litigating the endless tiny shames of poverty in your own community?
So I ask you again, are you SURE this is where you want to direct your punk energy?
Because there are a whole lot of rich people relying on people like us punching down and to the side instead of looking up to see where the money is going.
Because energy and time, as it turns out, are limited resources. And I would never expect you to secretly have more than you claim to have.

Can't even mention that a store near me is clearly using abusing the TFW program because they refuse to pay little more than minimum wage in a high cost of living area (also you won't get benefits and you'll only be part-time) because the fascists and right-wingers will jump in to say it's about immigration and white replacement.
No, it's because rich white people want to hoard even more money and found an intentional loophole to both make more money (via paying employees less) and also have more power over employees, employees who may or may not know Canadian employment laws (or safety laws) and even if they do, don't have the ability or support to try to hold the company accountable.
You can absolutely criticize the federal government for keeping the loophole open but it predates Trudeau by decades and it was Harper who both expanded the program and added a way for companies to fast-track TFWs. It was also under Harper that companies started firing Canadians (or not hiring them) and then requesting permission to mass-hire TFWs instead.
But the way the right wing talks, you would think Trudeau started this whole thing and the poor multi-million and multi-billion dollar companies are being taken advantage of. Also that housing prices, lack of new developments, and zoning issues started with Trudeau and are the fault of mass-immigration he has a boner for instead of being an issue for decades and experts warning this would happen if governments didn't act ASAP.
Instead the neolibs and cons kept cutting back and kicking that can down the road, a can that started being kicked by Mulroney and the Conservative Party.
