some thoughts about carmy and his relationship with love.
carmen knows love, but not the love we are expected to know.
love for him is tough, is hard and it takes more than it gives—hell, most of the time, it takes every last of strength there is from him.
love, for him, is sacrifice. is sitting back and watching his mother fall apart because saying something means she will fall even more. it’s going away from home to chase a dream that was not really his at first, but it became, somehow, all he had. it’s coming back home to a place thay doesn’t feel like it anymore because he has to. it’s showering himself in memories and regret because he has to. it’s taking care of the business he wanted to run with his brother but when he finally gets to be the one behind the wheel, he has to do it alone (or at least he thinks so).
carmen knows how to love. he loves his family, loves food—there’s not much to it, it’s all he has. these are the things that shaped him. what he doesn’t love, though, is himself. and god, how hard it is to do such thing?
he thinks that, in order to love himself, he needs to give away everything. push to the limit and go beyond, break his back and bend himself to fit in places way too small, or grow bigger when he needs to fit the bigger ones. he’s the mirrorball, he’s trying, he’s the archer and he has been his own prey. who could ever leave him? everyone, including himself.
who could stay? he’s trying to figure it out, still.

I feel like out of all the layers of secrets and concealment Klein hides, the people that would probably be shocked the most if those secrets ever comes to light would be the Moretti siblings.
Imagine you have a brother. Brother was going to go find a typical 9-5 job, but then he suddenly “finds a better job” and boom all your livelihoods improve ‘cause of his earnings. He also starts to cook really well, but you chalk it down to him learning from his friend’s chef. Then one day, he dies on duty. You mourn for him and miss him desperately. You move to a bigger city and occasionally feel like he’s still around, but all you ever see are the new names popping up in the newspaper, such as Gehrman Sparrow, while you focus and continue on your life.
Then, somehow, years into the future, you find out he’s not dead. His grave is literally empty. Not only that, he’s also the great detective of the capital of your literal country, the crazy adventurer feared by pirates, the tycoon who was generous but mysterious and reserved, and a wandering magician granting wishes. Also, he’s a GOD. GOD. OF. A. LITERAL. CHURCH. Then you find out that HE’S NOT EVEN YOUR BROTHER. The brother you grew up with is long dead. It’s a stranger who has been and assimilated into his body and mind since the day your brother died. Oh yeah, that friend he said was the reason he’s a good cook? That friend has been dead even before your “brother”. And you swore you knew him well. He was a history student trying to get a good job for the future. What in the Evernight Goddess’ divine kingdom happened? Oh, yeah, speaking of Evernight, your “brother” is “Her” blessed. By the way, he still hasn’t gone to the theatre with you like he promised.
I don’t know how Melissa managed to find out The Fool = Klein (maybe some angel told her in a dream or Klein directly told her idk) but I can’t even comprehend how she managed to process that information. Like imagine waking up one day and finding out a close relative of yours presumed dead is now a deity. It’s definitely not an average Tuesday afternoon thing.

Thoughts on prince Riko’s “perfect court” before anyone escaped Evermore ( @thefoxesraven pls remind me if it was you with the branding vs tagging idea on that insta live)
@snazzy-jas-z-is-a-fan-of came up with SO MUCH of the possible politics and family ties of this au, it was incredible to watch and I think I finally understand enough to post about it 😂 there’s a balance of power between the two branches of Evermore royalty, which balance is shifting slowly to the Moriyamas and by the end of the story belongs solely to them with Ichirou as king. I’ll try to explain it in a different post if there’s interest
(And lest we go a day without Abram angst: he does in fact get his brand and more, when he’s taken back to Evermore and Riko takes the chance to reclaim his property ‘like he should have done to begin with’.)
