People in the Torchwood tag love complaining about the shitty, dysfunctional bisexuals like hey my dude. This is the shitty, dysfunctional bisexual show! This is their house and by house I mean hole in the ground one of them does literally live in. Go back to Doctor Who if you want more palatable atrocities

the way so many ppl believe that homura is truly an “evil devil” and that madoka was “just fine” being a god, when the ENTIRE point of madoka magica is that humans, especially human emotion and morality, is much more complicated than black and white, is just… wow. it’s really wow.

How would Tex and Mason react when they first find out that Dallas died and Mark going to jail. I’d assume that’s when Mason first started to take care of Tex by himself and all.
I could imagine that they didn’t know for awhile till Johnny or someone remembered that he had half brothers and called them- or showed up. Like what happened when the cops showed up on the Curtis house about their parents.
Uh in the AU Dally doesn’t die/Mark doesn’t go to jail that’s kinda the point 😭
The whole reason any of the events of it happen are because Dallas survived- Dallas’s survival led to Mark having a place to hide from the cops, and eventually to Mason not having to raise Tex alone.
(Meanwhile, in Hinton-verse canon, I still think Mason may have looked for the man he suspected to be Tex’s father [who is Dally’s father too duh], except since Dally’s dead in canon, instead of stumbling upon Tex’s adult half-brother, Mason finds no leads and resigns himself to raising Tex alone.)

A lot of Hotaru’s features are soft, willowy, and delicate to contrast the sharpness of Tsugumi. Hotaru is written into the damsel in distress position where Gumi is written into the hero position. They’re meant to be a stark contrast to one another.
There’s this idea that women aren’t allowed to be “ugly”. You watch a lot of animation and you find that a lot of the uglier facial expressions are made by male characters where the women always retain some level of beauty to them even when they’re crying or angry. It’s more of a pout or a furrowed brow, rarely a snarl and sharp eyes or nostrils flaring. These expressions of pain and aggression are reserved for Tsugumi as a subversion to her perceived femininity.
Hotaru needs to be objectified for the narrative. He needs to be delicate and beautiful and occupy the archetypal space of an Ophelia or a Juliette. He needs to die young and beautiful and never be unsightly in his debasement. He is an object to be consumed much like women caught in death and hysteria because god forbid a woman be ugly in her agony.
Where Tsugumi is tall, broad-shouldered, full-figured, snarls, has sharp nails and wild smiles, Hotaru is much more mild-mannered by comparison. His gestures are small, reserved, and he never occupies very much space. Even his hair is soft and kept into gentle waves, stylishly long but still contained. You never feel as if he is imposing, visually, as opposed to Gumi whose hair whips around wildly and could reasonably slap you in the face with it with a strong enough gust of wind.
The conceit of Hotaru is the victimhood that women occupy in horror placed onto a man to explore this objectification away from the explicit condition of visible womanhood. Tsugumi’s conceit is unconventional femininity against patriarchy and the question of whether or not women actually, materially have a choice in how they are perceived and treated and if any choice is truly authentic when the expectations of a society are included from the moment of birth.
Whereas Tsugumi actively struggles against these institutions and works in defiance of them, Hotaru grimly accepts these things and accepts his own objectification.
The point of Hotaru is that he is beautiful and tortured because that is what human art has always loved. The history of creative works love a woman who has died young and in her prime. Something to fawn over. This curse is given to Hotaru as well.
Tsugumi is allowed to cry in an ugly fashion and hiss and bite but Hotaru is not. Beauty is a privilege and a shackle at the same time in a capitalistic society. You are given advantages for being beautiful but your intelligence and reality will never be respected by your peers, especially not when working in the red light district.
I went on a tangent here but anyways… I dont have a good closer. That’s the post :)

I don’t understand the argument that Tashi doesn’t love Art because in the screenplay it’s established that she does love him and she tells that to Patrick after sleeping with him. He asks her why she’s so desperate for Art to win the match and if that will make her love him again, to which she responds she has never stopped loving him. And even if you don’t want to think the things in the screenplay that weren’t said in the movie are canon, I feel it’s still pretty visible in the movie. Not as obvious, sure, but she loves him in a very selfish self absorbed way.

chameleon
for years i assumed chameleons changed their color for survival
only recently, i learned a different story
chameleons are able to change color from a complex matrix of crystals in their skin
that are triggered by stressors
too hot
too cold
afraid
i always called myself a chameleon because my personality is malleable;
easily molded and sculpted to fit people’s needs
i thought i was camouflaging myself.
i thought i was camouflaging myself.
