Much as I would love to see a Muslim/hijabi woman on tv. Most likely wouldn't want to be on tv since it goes against their beliefs. I'm ok with Natacha in this role bc I love her and I appreciate what LS has done with showing respect as the show has continued

First off, thank you for the insight/feedback on the accuracy, and the prayer part in particular! I had thought the location she was praying in was inaccurate but that wasn’t something I saw mentioned a lot at the time of the initial backlash to that scene. So I appreciate the information. 💜

I definitely head canon that when Owen rebuilt the firehouse (for the 2nd time!) he made sure there was a dedicated quiet room. Not only would it be important to have for Marjan or anyone else that works at the firehouse with them of Muslim faith to pray in, but also they have stressful and emotional jobs! Having a dedicated safe space at the firehouse to go when you need that kind of quiet privacy just makes sense to me.

As far as the casting part first: I think Natacha has done a great job and I appreciate the fact that she spoke up to the showrunners after hearing feedback from Muslim viewers. and from what I heard of her talking at the most recent convention, she has some great ideas of exploring various intersectionality that is found within that religion and I think that’s great and really hope they do explore some of those things.

My desire for an actual hijabi woman to have been chosen for this part was mainly based off experiences I witnessed from a previous fandom, Skam. IDK if you ever watched it, but the 4th season focused on a Muslim girl in high school, Sana, played by an actress who was actually Muslim, Iman Meskini, who was fantastic. The show writer/creator/producer relied a lot on her knowledge and lived experience when filming things. Then the Skam remakes happened… and another iteration of the show did not bother to get an actual Muslim to play that character and I remember very vividly the negative experiences a lot of the Muslim people in fandom had based off choices that were made and how that character was portrayed. Iman herself spoke up about how much better it was to have someone with the lived experience, who knew what it was like, acting in a role like that. I love this quote from her too: "I never dreamt about being an actress, because I never saw an actress with hijab on. I didn’t even see it as an option or a possibility at all until I became that example that it is possible."

I definitely can appreciate and understand how nuanced the discussion of actors playing parts that aren’t their own experience truly is though. I think the wars that are waged online about actors who play queer parts especially is a big thing happening in culture right now and I truly understand a lot of varying sides to those kinds of discussions. I know it might not always be possible for own voices actors to play parts like this, but I just feel like the best case scenario in a role like Marjan would have been for it to be played by a hijabi woman. That doesn’t mean I think Natacha is in the wrong for taking the role or that it was a terrible mistake for her to have been cast. Just that there was a better scenario that I had hoped for, that didn’t end up happening. and that's okay.

Now the corn silo story: That interview with Natacha where she said there were things that got cut from that storyline makes me really sad because I wish we could have gotten a better resolution to it. Maybe it would have been exactly what you're mentioning here too - clarifying for the viewers that not everyone in the mosque felt that way and it was just pettiness amongst some of them. Sadly, I guess we'll never know exactly what that would have looked like. It makes me a little sad that the only time we've even seen the mosque she goes to was in that episode in season one. I really really hope we get a chance to see some more storylines for Marjan that can include her faith and her mosque but more of how they're positively impacting her life instead.

i've genuinely never felt more like a fish out of water than while watching these kids shooting tiktoks, and following each other across three different kind of social medias, and having intricate rituals over instagram's stories and the length of their shared spotify playlists like bless their hearts i have no idea what any of it means and im clearly not the target audience here, but that's fine!!!!!!!

i actually find it very interesting to have this window into the younger generations, in a way i feel way closer to them compared to the ones that came before us, but there are still a lot of things that i don't understand, and it's nice to have a show like this to help bridge the gap at least a little

it also gives the series its own particular style and charm, which im enjoying quite a lot, so im definitely gonna keep watching it!!!!!!

Their name is Calla, and they're a nonbinary drow druid (circle of spores) plagued by persistent migraines. They have comically low charisma, and they tend to come across as a tall, creepy guy with a "resting" stare (they also trance with their eyes open lmao). They fight like a tank/healer and have a pretty consistent self-sacrificing streak due to various reasons.

But that doesn't mean they're above mischief and bastardry! They do find joy in chaos, they'll happily instigate or go along with heists and bits, and they allow themselves to fully enjoy their insatiable bloodlust. They're just trying to keep it under control and make conscious decisions about it, which is the main thing.

before beetlejuice came to broadway, its first public staging happened during its out of town tryouts in Washington DC back in 2018! that’s the first time i saw the show and it remains my FAVORITE version (SO much was changed in the transition between DC and Broadway) and since it’s so different, we tend to refer to the original version of the show as DC Beetlejuice!

jun taking a step back because po likes thame and thame likes po and is gonna take care of him, so it's okay, this is for the best, jun never had any chance to begin with (jun always the second choice, always the side character, always the loser. thame had a better score than him as trainees, thame is the main vocalist of the group while jun is the sub, it makes sense that thame would get po too. he doesn't resent thame for it, it's just how life is. as the song goes: the winner takes it all, the loser's standing small, it's simple and it's plain, why should (he) complain?)

jun telling himself that what he feels for po is only a little unimportant crush and that if he nips it in the bud it's gonna go away quickly, except it never does. the more time po spend with the group the more jun falls for him and he can do nothing about it, he can only stand on the side being fatally in love with no end, no reprieve, his feelings unspoken, unacknowledged, eating him alive from the inside with how irrevocable and all consuming they are as he watches thame and po holding hands and hugging and kissing

jun going back to dating rumors after dating rumors, both with women and men, and some of them he does actually fuck, some of them are just the fans and the paparazzi blowing up any interaction he has with other people, but he still hopelessly clutches to each and every one of them in the desperate attempt to move on and show he's okay

and suddenly it's 10 years down the line and MARS decides to disband on their own terms (pepper and p'gam just had a child and he wants to be there for his daughter, everyone wishes to pursue some of their other passions), and then the impossible happens: thame and po break up. which doesn't matter, really, because jun can see how they still look and interact with each other and it's only a matter of time before they get back together and he's not about to make a fool out of himself

but then the dude who was supposed to direct jun's first big acting project after MARS disbanded decides to abandon them and the next thing he knows they bring po in as the new director. jun genuinely considers dropping out, has an argument with po about it too, bringing up the excuse of po still being inexperienced and a nobody in the industry and not wanting to attach his name to an unsuccessful project (because jun is an asshole anyway), but then po brings up jun being the one pushing him to be better all those years ago when they worked together over the MV for MARS' come back, and for once jun doesn't know what to say. he is also an incredibly weak man, and the movie IS a good opportunity even if jun's only playing the second romantic lead, and he is been lying and pretending and repressing for so long, how bad can a few more months be? so he shakes po's outstretched hand and says 'i'll be in your care then, khun director'

and as they work together they grow closer and closer and maybe there's a scene where jun has to kiss the lead actress and po doesn't understand why he feels annoyed by it. and i know it's cliche but eventually, when they finally confess to each other, po hits jun with 'i can't go back in time and make you my first choice, but you're the choice i want to keep making every single day from now on'

ANYWAY. I LOVE BEING DEEPLY NORMAL ABOUT SHIT THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AND DRAG PEOPLE DOWN WITH ME ✌️

Let me gush a little 💜

FFXIV is pretty vast, a 10 year old MMO, so there's lots of people and content and some of it is - stuff you pass by and move to the next area and so forth. Your main character is a capital-H-Hero, and thier personality is left pretty open.

Along the way there are lots of interesting characters, but I ended up really liking the personality of a very minor one - the second-in-command of a group of "pirates" that "taxes" ships passing through your waters - the group end up helping you along the way. He was sort of pragmatic and a bit snarky and I decided Meryta needed a flight with him, and then I had a random thought of them meeting again, and then, well, it kept building.

it's very interesting to me, because so many people you meet along the way are both very impressed by you AND ask you to help fight whatever is the latest worldthreatning thing. Of course the pirate doesn't, in fact he kinda snarkly blames you for bringing problems to them.

I really enjoy the dynamic that I, tbh mostly made up since he has so little content in vast game - a place for her to not be a hero, to be herself. And someone who also challenges her, and what her friends ask her to do. It's a relief? Deep down he got a bit of a caring and protective instincts, the pirate group is very much protective of each other.

on the other hand, she brings a lot of freshness to him. Canonically he's in his late 30s and I bumped in up a few years for some unrelated headcanon reasons, and he's just been doing his things for a long time.

there's something very compelling to me about them; she's young and powerful and he's older and more experienced, but holds a significant amount of power.

how do you deal with being some (criminal) guy, when your girl friend is God's Chosen One?

I have a lot thoughts about what may happen in the future i'm very excited to write about.
