Sunday Afternoon Coffee: A Story of God's Grace
It was my turn to share a testimony this morning of God’s grace in my life. I chose to tell this story: When I was 10, we moved to western Oregon. When I said that this morning, I think I said eastern, which is wrong. Anyway, we moved to Portland, which put us within driving distance of the ocean and Mount Hood, which is where my story took place. I was 12 by this time, and I had finally become…

Sunday Service Heart Highlight
November 10th, 2024
Song & Service Highlight:
Testimony doesn't mean they get it and I don't
It means it's available for me too!
Scripture that came to heart:
Hebrews 12:1 AMP
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us,"
John 10:10 AMP
"The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]."
~~~~
Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witness, who can testify and have testified to the truth of God's absolute faithfulness.
There's just such a refreshing of faith when I read that line and remember what the worship leader had spoken. Beloved, God's absolute faithfulness to one person doesn't suddenly run out when He gets to you.
His faithfulness when He told Moses that He would deliver Him and the other Israelites from their enemies is the same faithfulness that is spoken to us throughout scripture. His faithfulness when protecting David from the lions den and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace is the same faithfulness that He protects us with.
His faithfulness when He hung upon the cross for us, enduring the pain, taking on the death that we deserved so that we may be reunited with Him by faith in Who He is and what He has done. Jesus destroyed the power of sin and death. He destroyed the works of the devil, and He is faithful now to keep His word. We serve such a faithful God, Father, Savior, Lord, Shephard, and Friend. We serve and walk with such an Almighty God and wonderful Savior. He was faithful then and He is faithful now.
Faithful witnesses
I have seen friends testify to seeing God's faithfulness when facing cancer. When facing the loss of a child. When facing heartbreak. When facing debt. When facing financial crisis. When facing spiritual crisis. When facing life crisis. When facing depression. When facing self-harm. I along with others can testify in seeing God's faithfulness when we faced suicidal ideation. When we all face the temptation to sin. When we all get back up again and come to the throneroom of grace and we see His faithfulness. When taking a stand to change theough Him and His love, we see His faithfulness. There is so much testimony to God's faithfulness throughout this whole world. I praise God that I can hear and read such beautiful testimonies from people across the world through social media.
So beloved, God's not done so don't give up. Keep going. May this remind you and renew your faith that if God did it for them, that He'll do it for you too. Stand firm in Him, seek Him in all your ways as you believe that He IS making a way when there seems to be no way (Proverbs 3:5-6; Isaiah 43:18-19). He has called you to live in abundant life with Him.
#i let myself put words on an already words and y'all are being suspiciously quiet about it#which is fine don't get me wrong but like#very sus 🤣#also going to say here on my own lil blog post that i do think there are many cults masquerading as christianity#i also think there are many churches that are christian in name that are instead cults#i have recently discovered how close i and my family were to falling into one#not like we were being led directly but like...#we were at a not safe distance going 'what a pretty mountain' and then while we wandered to a slightly safer distance#the mountain revealed itself as a volcano and exploded#like i can see and taste the ash but the lava flows didnt find me ya know?#anyways#had a recent discussion in sunday school about how there are several sects of religion that claim to worship and follow Jesus#but he is not the Jesus of scripture#and people have added doctrines to him often in works based salvation styles#of which latter day saints and jehovah's witnesses and several other things fall into#but so have the dangerously patriarchal fundamentalist churches#and we should just be very very very careful#that the God we are following is the one whose revealed word has withstood the test of thousands and thousands of years#and not a doctrine whose god and testimony cannot stand up to its own witness for a couple hundred years#ragamusings in the tags#my views on what makes good religion have so shifted in the past couple years#hopefully for the better and closer to the truth and further from what man has to say about it
About Me
I am a non-denominational Christian woman. I grew up pentecostal and stepped away from God before coming back to Him in May of 2024.
I want to spread joy and love. I want to spread God's word. I am not interested in spewing hate, taking God's word out of context, or forcing anyone into something they do not want to be a part of. My messages and asks are always open for testimonies, questions, or prayer requests.
when your parents say that there are a lot of things they push you towards and want you to excel at except for Tuesday nights, which is the day you go to Encircle writer's night, where Encircle is literally a place where queer people in Utah can go and feel safe and be loved and find a scene of community they might not be able to find in Utah (at least that's how I see it) and it's also one of the only places you've actually been welcomed into and found people like you, and one of the first places you've actually fit in that you didn't create yourself... plus it's helping you grow as a writer and a person
and they don't like me going there because I'm "feeding the wolf" and "leaning into my 'other side'" of my identity as a queer person because it's "gay" and "indoctrinating me" and they don't think I can explore myself and my identity in that way while also having a strong testimony and being a part of the LDS church
and then they expect me to come to them when I don't feel safe or welcomed or loved
Day Ten
Hello!
Today was once again, amazing at church camp. We had the variety|talent show and it was so much fun. I was in three acts and seeing|participating in the others and them was so fun.
I am very tired right now, but I wanted to get this done tonight. Our sermon was great. The speaker talked about some of the real, difficult stuff in our world, as young people especially, and it was amazing. He also spoke so passionately and directly, pointing and making eye contact, as well as a variety of volumes he spoke in.
He made clear how unconditional God’s love was, and the fact that we can’t do anything about it, LOL. Also that we are all leaders, and have gifts that He has a plan for us to use. The way His grace brings us through our challenges.
We also had a talk about smashing the patriarch, and the optional continuation of the conversation with other prejudicial systems contributing. It was great to share and be heard, as well as learn so much about again, hard yet important topics.
The youth testimony also was amazing as per usual, and really spoke to me. I am writing one of my own on a smaller scale thing do wish me luck!
Anyway, thanks for reading. God bless you. ♡
Are you Mormon?
Given that Mormon is the name of a man, no I am not.
I am however a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, if that is the question you were intending to ask.
We believe that God doesn't play favorites with his children, and that resultingly in ancient times there were prophets in many corners of the earth so as to provide God's word to all people. Mormon is one such prophet we believe lived in the Americas in ancient times, who compiled the writings of his predecessors into a singular volume known as the Book of Mormon. But he is no more important than any prophet in the Bible or other prophet throughout all of history. It is because of our belief that God will never leave his children without guidance, and acceptance of continued scripture, including but very much not limited to the Book of Mormon, that in the early days of the Church people began using Mormon's name to refer to us. This was used as a derogatory term to alienate us from other sects of Christianity, but was semi-accepted and partially reclaimed because Mormon was a great prophet and hero who we do not mind being compared to. Our church has never been Mormon's church though, it is the Church of Jesus Christ in the latter days.
There are many slanderous beliefs the world holds about my religion, that have caused a lot of contention and controversy. Some of these are complete fabricated lies, others are from the actions of disowned offshoots, some the flaws or actions of individuals or groups within the church, and others are simply taken so out of context that they have lost all truth.
But yes, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I am unafraid to share my love of my Heavenly Parents and my Savior Jesus Christ.
“Are you battling a demon of addiction—tobacco or drugs or gambling, or the pernicious contemporary plague of pornography? Is your marriage in trouble or your child in danger? Are you confused with gender identity or searching for self-esteem? Do you—or someone you love—face disease or depression or death? Whatever other steps you may need to take to resolve these concerns, come first to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Trust in heaven’s promises. In that regard Alma’s testimony is my testimony: ‘I do know,’ he says, ‘that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions.’”
Jeffrey R. Holland, Quorum the Twelve Apostles, 2006
