How would Terry in all eras teach his sons to respect their mother (beloved)

Look, whenever in doubt, I tend to go for Terry Silver approaching things through the lenses of a (toxic?) military structure, or in this case;

And if you do, you better go out there and vanquish, cheat, lie, deceive, do whatever it takes to defend your flag and fix things back to the way they're supposed to be by any means necessary. No mercy. In fact, I can envision Terry holding a speech somewhat like this to his sons, word for word. You can even very much read this tirade in his voice.

So, it's safe to say he'd not only teach them to respect their mother.

okay but why do most villains (or exvillains like Johnny) go crazy over/because of Larusso? is it because they tried so hard to destroy him and failed, and have to live with that failure? Like with Silver. He's 100% to blame for everything, why the unhingedness?

I think that's part of it, and that's what they would probably tell others. That he was an annoying little pest who couldn't leave well enough alone and they were only giving him what was coming to him. That they were humiliated by him and angry in a very normal, masculine, heterosexual way.

But looking at how real people treat both Ralph, and the character Daniel, it has to be more than that.

I think he represents a form of masculinity that bothers them. He's too androgynous, too skinny, too pretty, but he's also very secure in himself. He doesn't see the need to puff himself up and act all macho. He's comfortable in his skin.

I think people see that and resent it. Because if they have to play by the rules (rules, being gender conformity) then he should have to as well. But instead he's somehow winning the girls and getting the trophies anyway.

Something about him deeply aggravates a certain type of man. We see it to this day, the oddly targeted and pointed hatred towards him, especially from men. He's treated in ways I've only ever seen female characters treated tbh, lol. He's the bitchy wife. He's the stuck up prick. He's the goody two shoes. He's no fun. He's the stick in the mud. Etc.

He disrupts their power fantasies I think. Which is why a certain type of Guy is so deeply invested in Johnny getting the "better" of him. Because that's the way it was supposed to be in their mind.

They want toxic masculinity to work for them, not to see an example of a guy flourishing despite denying it.

I think it is also other things. Like, with Chozen, it was a humiliation. Daniel was who he was trying to be in a way. A fitting heir. An honorable man. He bested him, and yet, he wouldn't even do Chozen the dignity of properly ending him. A bit of compassion that may have seemed like yet another embarrassment. But of course, over the years he learned otherwise, and then he started looking up to Daniel. Admiring him.

I know a lot of the fandom likes to think that Johnny was so distracted by Daniel because he was secretly running from gay thoughts, and he may well have been. But they weren't kind, I don't think. They were angry. And part of that anger was probably towards himself and kreese's and his dad, and whatever, but also part of it was very much at Daniel for being Other. Like. Right in front him.

It's so funny (not) that at the end of the movie he seems to have at least some emotional intelligence and apologizes. In the beginning of the second movie he realizes that the things he had been holding dear were poisonous.

Then he just forgot all about it because it was easier to blame Daniel, than to blame Kreese or himself. It was Daniel's fault he never had a proper relationship, it was Daniel's fault he peaked in high school. Certainly not the guy who was like low key/high key grooming a small army of child soldiers.

Mike it was just him keeping his word to his boss. It was a business thing. Monetary gain. He is also the most normal of all the people affected by Daniel LaRusso Derangement Syndrome (wow it's been a while since i typed that) but once Daniel (and Terry ) comes back into his life he's back in it again.

Terry, I mean. I have lost count of the number of times I've discussed his specific form of mental illness was tbh and it still makes me think every day. Like, I'd just be repeating things I had said in earlier asks lol.

Kreese, I think is the most upset at Daniel's version of whatever "masculinity" is because for him, he seemingly adopted his stance out of survival. (What happened between the war and the films. He was far too normal in those flashbacks) Daniel represents the sort of weakness that almost took Kreese himself out. (That he still sees sometimes in Terry)

And even still, he is insufferable enough to be so so pretty during all of this. I mean, look at how people treat the pretty boy idols of the time? No matter who they are, there are going to be people very vocally disliking them because girls like him even though [ insert whatever fallacies of masculinity here]

Like. I don't like or dislike Timothy choolamoo but the way some men can't stand him reminds me a lot of those angry men complaining that their girlfriends had a crush on Ralph in highschool.

So i think it's because he's appealing in a way that is confusing in many aspects. He's appealing in the same way cute girls are and that's Not Ok. Because they're Not Gay. But he's also appealing (and detestable) because he gets to be happy and successful in a way that doesn't make sense to them. Because he's not playing by the rules.

So, I think it all combines, and they get angry boners over it.

As I struggle to stand up, I can feel how my head keeps spinning. I can practically hear how my head pounds. I grunt while getting up, trying not to stumble on myself.

“Hey, careful there,” Robby gently grabs me by my arm, putting it around his shoulders to help me keep my balance.

“I’m gonna split her face in two next round,” I mutter, blinking hard to try and regain my sight.

“I would just quit if I were you, you know,” Zara taunts, her arms crossed. “Save your ass.”

My stunned expression turns into an infuriated one, my fists balling at my sides. Adrenaline coursing through me, I step on the mat once again, split-stepping to be as alert as possible. Beat the shit out of her, Zara! I hear the echo of a female voice coming from the bleachers. 

“Shut up!” I bellow at the top of my lungs, incertain of where the girl who had yelled was. 

Everyone goes awfully silent at my scream, though, and when the referee makes the signal for us to resume the fight, I am the first to lunge forward. Blinded by rage, I go for Zara’s chest, but she is quicker, and blocks my blow with excellency. She punches my face sharply, assuring a bruise and most likely a cut too.

“Point, Malik!” The referee cries.

“Guess you don’t have what it takes, Miyagi-Do,” she spits venomously.

My blood boils in my veins as I hear the name of my dojo being defamed, and suddenly become self-conscious. She is right. I am not honouring Miyagi Do’s teachings. I have become too self-absorbed in my desire to crush her. And the only two words haunting my mind have nothing to do with Miyagi-Do’s approach to karate. No mercy. Something inside of me snaps. I can feel how each fiber in my body tenses up, just like the spiked up mane of a cat who is ready to pounce at its prey. 

“It’s over, pussy. You’re dead meat,” she keeps on trying to provoke me, but what she doesn’t know now is that I won’t be provoked by anything she can ever come up with to say.

“Haven’t you heard?” I begin as we circle each other predatory-like. “Cobra Kai never dies.”

She is taken aback by my words, her face contorts into a confused expression. I take advantage of the fact that she lets her guard down for a split second and sweep her. She falls to the ground, open-mouthed. Unfortunately for her, my agenda does not end there. I kneel above her, my legs on each side of her body. I grab her by her gi’s collar before letting go of her roughly, causing her to hit the back of her head, and raise my fist, panting in anticipation.

‘End her. Make daddy proud.’ My body goes rigid as my father’s unforgiving cold voice echoes in my mind, completely knocking me off my guard. I look up at Terry Silver, who is staring at us from the Iron Dragon’s side of the mat, with a mix of pride and disapproval in his eyes. He smirks when he catches my gaze. I feel my blood freeze. Zara does not miss the opportunity, and flips me around to put me in the position I was previously in. She lands a blow to my gut, immobilizing me.

“Point, Malik!”

I get back up shakily, slip-stepping once more. I am running out of time, and I can feel the stares from both dojos on me, better said, on my unnervingly weak performance. I fight the urge to break down right here and now.

“What, seeing your daddy on our side got you lacking?”

My vision blurs as she strikes another blow to my face, this time directly hitting and potentially breaking my nose. I automatically take my hand to it, aimlessly trying to soothe the pain.

“Time, time!” Sensei LaRusso yells.

“This is your last time-out, Miyagi-Do,” the referee announces as he sends Zara to kneel on her side of the mat, giving her back to us.

“Y/n, you have to focus if you want to–”

“Shut up, LaRusso. Kid’s dad is the owner of her rival’s team,” Sensei Lawrence interrupts Sensei LaRusso, then continues, addressing me this time. “Look, kid, even if you lose, show that pussy what you’ve got. No mercy,” he adds the last words in a mere whisper, so that LaRusso doesn’t hear.

A small smile creeps up on my face, and I bow slightly at him. “Yes, Sensei.”

The fight’s third and last two-minute round begins, but this time, I wait for Zara to come at me. As soon as she does, I block her jab, and kick her in the gut, causing her to stumble back. I can’t stop the painfully stinging blow to my side that comes after that. However, before she stabilises herself, I punch her face hard enough for her to fall down.

I smile to myself, admiring my work: Zara unable to stand up. 

“Knockout, twenty points. Y/l/n! Winner!”

 My whole team runs up to the mat, congratulating me ecstatically. My body is starting to feel sore as the adrenaline starts wearing off.

“Y/n, you actually–!” Robby stops dead in his tracks as his gaze fixes itself on my waist.

“What’s wrong?” I pant, clueless.

“Y/n…,” he looks at me concerned. “Medic! Please, we need a medic”

“What…?” I utter, but then I feel it. A searing, excruciating pain coming from the left side of my body. The exact spot where Zara had hit me last.

I touch it instinctively, only to wince as my fingers meet the wet, sticky side of my gi. I look down, my eyes shooting wide open as I realise that the source of the stickiness is the blood seeping from my clothes, originating from…a wound. The pretty nasty wound I have on my side. Due to combined factors--the grotesque image of the dark red blood staining my marble-white gi and the acute sensation emanating from the same spot--I sit on the mat, clutching my side and holding on to it for dear life. My breath starts to quicken, and the last thing I see are Robby’s and…Axel Kovačević’s face looming over me, concern written in both of their eyes. What they were saying, though, I had no clue.

This has probably been pointed out already (maybe even by you, I don't know) but I was thinking this morning about how little Claudia in Puzzle House saw sadness in Kruha when everyone else just saw a monster, and how little Ezran in Dreamer's Nightmare saw sadness in the Dream Warden when everyone else just saw a monster. And how that was how they were able to connect with them; because they saw pieces of themselves or their loved ones in these beings that everyone else feared and wanted to help them.

Anyway, just made me think Claudiez which of course made me think of you tips imaginary hat

Yes! We have Claudia and Ezran see through others being monsters in the graphic novels, and then we have Soren and Rayla doing the same in show canon (5x08, 6x05) with Elmer and Esmeray, respectively. I think a lot about how the bulk of the kids see themselves in the 'monster'—Rayla with her grief, rage, loneliness; Soren in feeling worthless / forced to obey in a verbally abusive relationship; Claudia in feeling trapped and stuck and abandoned—but Ezran even goes a step further in empathizing with the Dream Warden not because of his own pain, but because he recognizes his brother's ("You remind me of my big brother [...] I love him even when he doesn't feel like himself. I bet you don't feel like yourself anymore"). His ability to empathize beyond his own experiences is why I think he's such a compassionate character, and one of the similarities he has with Terry that I think Claudia really needs in her life in particular.

I talked about it a little bit here but I'm deeply interested in how the rest of the kids have had this moment, and Callum sort of... hasn't? Callum has had his own moment of "seeing past human hatred," he did that with the elves and Rayla specifically in S1, always believing that peace and reasoning wth them was possible (and it was). He sees past his anger and hatred towards Avizandum because "that was Zym's dad".

But it's never used the word 'monster' directly, and Callum (after Claudia and pre-redemption arc Soren) is probably the most likely to label something as a monster. It's one of the first things he does in 1x01 and he sees the corrupted soldiers as nothing more than monsters either (3x09, 5x03) despite being his own people, which Janai describes fighting against as a nightmare, and Soren has utilized the silver lining of. He trusts Rayla's intuition in 6x05, but he's the first to label Esmeray as a monster in-canon and thinks at first that she's nuts to believe otherwise. This is understandable for numerous reasons! But I do find that Callum is inclined to "I either never believe this person/thing is a monster" or "I do and never question it" is the camp that he tends to fall into, rather than going in between the way some other characters do.

It's not quite the hard black-and-white thinking we see Soren ("It's nice being one of the good guys this time") and Rayla ("and find it before the bad guys too" / "evil jar of toenails") fall into, until they don't ("you have to help them" / "because it's wrong?" "because it's dangerous! because it hurts you!") but it's... adjacent, at least in my head? Something something he doesn't usually dehumanize but if he does good fucking luck getting him to change his mind and not follow through with the original intent (rip Claudia).

Which really means I'm just deeply interested for Callum to get his more formal "I see myself in you / someone I love in you, you're not a monster" moment either with someone else in future seasons, or even maybe with himself / his corrupted self in S7
