apostate cousland for all the other reasons but also because i’ve always really liked witch-king as a title
#i know he wouldnt be a king proper but anora could let him have it just for him to be referred to as her attack dog witch-king#does his marital duty (appears out of nowhere every so often to be sicced on her enemies with fire and tempest)#i thought it would be impossible to do the anora marriage drama with apostate cousland but honestly with all ferelden has going on#im not even remotely considering doing this rn i just still think of this guy in my head sometimes

I am SO fucking sick of "shock" endings.
SPOILERS for the British version of "Professor T," Season 3.
.
.
So. I've been only moderately interested in the crime drama Professor T. I only watched it because Ben Miller plays the titular character, and I loved him in Death in Paradise. So far I haven't really enjoyed the series, because it's yet another attempt to amp up the quirkiness factor of the main character in a detective series in a not very likeable way. He's Monk, really, but with plastic gloves.
Anyway I tuned in to the Season finale just because I was cynically curious how they would end the season. I was already pissed about what they'd done with his ex-lover, DCI Christina Brand, who allowed the already fucked up professor to go to jail rather than reveal the truth which would have cost her her job. After he'd been there for a while and was on trial for attempted murder she finally confessed and quit. Asshole.
I was stupid enough to allow the finale to raise my hopes. Jasper learns the truth about his father's death, reconciles with his mother enough to peel off his ever-present gloves, and to cry and feel happy. Meanwhile, DS Dan Winters proposes to DS Lisa Donckers and she accepts. Huzzah! Happy endings all round!
But this is British TV. They don't do happy endings. (Looks like this story arc was part of the original Belgian series. If so, fuck you Belgium.)
In a nutshell, this happens to DS Lisa Donckers.
So she's run over and dies slowly, and Jasper arrives just in time to witness his protege's dying gasps, and is so traumatized he puts his gloves back on, signalling that he is again separating himself from the world. And of course she hears her fiance's voice calling for her on the phone as she dies from being crushed by a car. And of course DS Winters arrives too late and there's the woman he'd asked to be his wife dead in the road.
Are we having fun yet?
The writers wanted the audience all happy for Jasper and looking forward to his full recovery from a terrible childhood, but oopsy do, they were just jerking us around. Fuck you and your Happy Ending, we can't have Healed Jasper because the series can only exist with an emotionally crippled, psychologically screwed up main character. We'll add new characters next season, but don't get too attached, because we may kill them off as well just to keep you on your toes.
Maybe some people like to play "Who Dies This Season?" I don't. I don't like books, movies, or TV series that mistake emotional manipulation for good storytelling.
I miss Ben Miller as Richard Poole in Death in Paradise . . . Oh. Wait. They killed him off, too. They didn't have to kill him. They could have just had him return to London, to his roast beef, perfect tea, and the snug in his local. But nooooo. It's funner if the character the audience luvs diiiieeeess.

#God this episode is so so good.#Tachihara sweetie I'm sorry I never talk about you. I swear I love him so so much he's an amazing character. I love his story and conflict–#so much.#This arc is peak bsd writing / meta literature plot. The tearing page moment is insane. The sentiments expressed here are so–#deep and emotional. The theme of the ordinary man. God and the force of human spirit.#Fighting against one's own destiny and finding the reason for own's existence. It's all subjects that are so interesting to reflect over–#and they're elaborated on in such a cool and compelling way. I love Dazai's quote on the strength of humans who–#“are caught in the tempest of contingency and scream‚ run and shed blood” so much. It moves me deeply.#The animation was really neat. A lot of detailed sequences. The wind was animated beautifully. The colors were so pretty and the stained–#glass visuals still go so hard.#Again I love Tachihara's conflict so much!!! I'm so into tachi/gin too... I know it's more of a Tachihara x oc since. Well.#We know little to nothing about Gin. But there's still so much spice to it... What do you MEAN Tachihara stabbed Gin !!!!!!#I'm so into the drama. AND the kind of relationship born from the big brother complex™ they both (may) share. AND the work partners.#AND the hiding their true identities to the other. How could I not love them...#Still believe season 4 should have ended where episode 11 ends but spreading it all in 12 episodes to allow it all better pacing.#I really think this season is great but the pacing really is its weakest point.#Of the sky casino arc they could have made a movie if they wanted to. Or just a cool arc at the start of season 5 that can work too!!#(((and not put ch 84-88 at only ep3. And then animate it grossly. But that's another talk.)))#Anyways 100000/10 what a good episode. This really was peak B/ungou Stray Dogs. And Akutagawa isn't even in it!!!#random rambles#Very hot take but I don't think Lucy should jump off a sky casino for a man. Sorry#My feelings for atsu/lucy are so fluctuating. I could write a whole other tags rant on it.#Actually I will

one of my favourite things about the merlin casting is how a couple of times a season, they just chuck in the most rsc-primed, internationally acclaimed, serious actor and just get them to play the silliest, most irrelevant background characters on the show. like you'll just be watching for the funsies and suddenly FUCK IT'S ADRIAN LESTER. insane experience.
#and then colin morgan went off and did the tempest#but i just find it fucking hilarious#i would actually pay to see the rsc do an absolutely deadpan production of merlin with all the drama of a shakespearean tragedy#merlin#bbc merlin

You Have My Attention: Shakespeare's Romances First Lines
William Shakespeare was a great playwright. And, he was also, a vege--wait that was George Bernard Shaw. Unless you're Miss Begoli, Shakespeare needs no introduction. However, Shakespeare had a deeply vocal and active audience who he had to capture and captivate from line one of each of his plays, or risk having them throw tomatoes at his actors. So let's see how Shakespeare grabbed his audience in his late romances toward the end of his career.
(For the nerds out there, the text comes from Open Source Shakespeare--except for Two Noble Kinsmen which comes from the Folger Shakespeare Library--because I was too lazy to flip through my Riverside and my Arden collection is incomplete.)
Gower. To sing a song that old was sung, From ashes ancient Gower is come; Assuming man's infirmities, To glad your ear, and please your eyes. It hath been sung at festivals, On ember-eves and holy-ales; And lords and ladies in their lives Have read it for restoratives: The purchase is to make men glorious; Et bonum quo antiquius, eo melius. If you, born in these latter times, When wit's more ripe, accept my rhymes. And that to hear an old man sing May to your wishes pleasure bring I life would wish, and that I might Waste it for you, like taper-light.
-- Pericles, Prince of Tyre
First Gentleman. You do not meet a man but frowns: our bloods No more obey the heavens than our courtiers Still seem as does the king. Second Gentleman. But what's the matter? First Gentleman. His daughter, and the heir of's kingdom, whom He purposed to his wife's sole son—a widow That late he married—hath referr'd herself Unto a poor but worthy gentleman: she's wedded; Her husband banish'd; she imprison'd: all Is outward sorrow; though I think the king Be touch'd at very heart.
-- Cymbeline, King of Britain
Archidamus. If you shall chance, Camillo, to visit Bohemia, on the like occasion whereon my services are now on foot, you shall see, as I have said, great difference betwixt our Bohemia and your Sicilia. Camillo. I think, this coming summer, the King of Sicilia means to pay Bohemia the visitation which he justly owes him. Archidamus. Wherein our entertainment shall shame us we will be justified in our loves; for indeed— Camillo. Beseech you,— Archidamus. Verily, I speak it in the freedom of my knowledge: we cannot with such magnificence—in so rare—I know not what to say. We will give you sleepy drinks, that your senses, unintelligent of our insufficience, may, though they cannot praise us, as little accuse us.
-- The Winter's Tale
Master. Boatswain! Boatswain. Here, master: what cheer? Master. Good, speak to the mariners: fall to't, yarely, or we run ourselves aground: bestir, bestir. Boatswain. Heigh, my hearts! cheerly, cheerly, my hearts! yare, yare! Take in the topsail. Tend to the master's whistle. Blow, till thou burst thy wind, if room enough!
-- The Tempest
Chorus. I come no more to make you laugh: things now, That bear a weighty and a serious brow, Sad, high, and working, full of state and woe, Such noble scenes as draw the eye to flow, We now present. Those that can pity, here May, if they think it well, let fall a tear; The subject will deserve it. Such as give Their money out of hope they may believe, May here find truth too. Those that come to see Only a show or two, and so agree The play may pass, if they be still and willing, I'll undertake may see away their shilling Richly in two short hours.
-- The History of Henry VIII
PROLOGUE New plays and maidenheads are near akin: Much followed both, for both much money giv’n, If they stand sound and well. And a good play, Whose modest scenes blush on his marriage day And shake to lose his honor, is like her That after holy tie and first night’s stir Yet still is modesty, and still retains More of the maid, to sight, than husband’s pains. We pray our play may be so, for I am sure It has a noble breeder and a pure, A learnèd, and a poet never went More famous yet ’twixt Po and silver Trent.

Tales of the Rays: Mirrage Prison
Chapter 6: The Atoning Hero and Remorseful Chosen (Part 9)
(Part 8) | (Part 10)
Zelos left the party to take Chester back to the Kerykeion, so now Kratos and Sync have gone to look for where Mithos is hiding out. Let's see what they find!
Sync: …According to Caius’ map, Mithos’ shelter should be somewhere around here, right? I haven’t noticed any signs of it. ……
Kratos: …He wouldn’t make it easy to find. Mithos and the rest of us were often being pursued during our former travels. ……
Kratos: He knows exactly how to keep himself hidden.
Sync: —Hold it. Something’s here.
Kratos: Is that…
[ NOISHE ENTERS ]
Sync: A monster…!?
Kratos: Noishe!?
Noishe: Fuaaoo…
Sync: …What’s this…weird thing? Is it your pet? ……
Kratos: Well…he’s something close.
Kratos: So, you were exoflected, too, Noishe. Why are you out here, aren’t you traveling with Lloyd?
Noishe: *whines*
Kratos: …Don’t tell me that you’re here with Mithos? ……
Sync: Ha…? What, you can actually talk to this weird thing?
Kratos: Noishe is a highly intelligent life form.
[ NOISHE WALKS AWAY ]
Kratos: He seems to want me to follow him.
Sync: Hmm, this reminds me of Arietta…
[ SCENE CHANGE TO MITHOS’ SHELTER ]
Noishe: Fuaaooo!
Mithos: Noishe, don’t be so loud, okay?
Kratos: Mithos…
Mithos: …Noishe must have brought you here. What a meddler. ……
Noishe: *bark*
Mithos: What do you want? You didn’t come here by coincidence, did you?
Kratos: We’ve received a message from someone named Aster. Martel is being held at the Tidal Temple.
Mithos: !?
Kratos: Do you know where the Ocean Temple is?
Mithos: …I do. It’s a temple connected to Mercuria’s villa. ……
Sync: You going to head over there and rampage?
Mithos: Only if someone has happened to my sister.
Kratos: I’ll go with you.
Mithos: ………。
Kratos: Some extra strength won’t hinder you.
Sync: Hey, if you’re going with him, that means I have no choice but to go, too.
Mithos: This guy’s coming with us? Won’t he just be deadweight?
Sync: You tell me. Want to try me and find out?
Mithos: Aren’t you a little out of your depth? I could kill you without even lifting my sword.
Sync: Then go ahead and kill me, Siscon Boy.
Kratos: —That’s enough. Sync is highly skilled, Mithos. You haven’t seen him fight yet. ——
Mithos: I was just annoyed about being underestimated by such a small fry.
Sync: —Why you!
Kratos: Mithos, Sync, both of you cut it out! Those who possess true power don’t blindly wave it about.
Kratos: In that sense, both of you are still weak.
Mithos & Sync: ………。
Kratos: —Mithos, may I ask you something? What is this collection of old books here, are you researching something? ——
Mithos: I’m looking for information about spirits.
Kratos: Spirits? Does this have to do with Demitrius’s plan?
Mithos: I don’t care what that deadbeat thinks he’s doing. I’m just…concerned. I’m worried that there might be a spirit version of Martel on this world.
Kratos: A spirit version of Martel? What are you talking about? Martel isn’t a spirit.
Mithos: —So, you don’t know. Mm…yes, all right. You don’t need to know. For now, at least. ——
Mithos: Let’s get going to the Ocean Temple. I’ll bring us there.
Sync: What about this Noishe thing?
Kratos: Noishe isn’t good with monsters. He should stay here. Or…
Kratos: No, it’s fine. Stay here and wait for Mithos to return, Noishe. ——
Noishe: *whines*
Mithos: Noishe, be a good boy.
Sync: …What a weird face. You don’t look that intelligent to me. ……
Noishe: *barks*

I tutor these little twins in english and today I explained to them the plot of “The Tempest” and they were so scandalised yet begrudgingly intrigued by Miranda and Ferdinand’s storyline and one of them said “Shakespeare always sneaks in a love story” with a smug little grin while his twin smacked his arm and glared at him and omg kids are so cute
