Thank you all for your patience and your support! Chapter 1 of my little Code Lyoko fan-manga is finally complete!

I hope all of my patrons enjoyed getting to see these pages early as I completed them <3 And if you guys like this enough, I'd love to continue making it. I have a lot of plans for the story and really hope I can share it with all of you.

I've been considering posting this to Webtoon, but I know that website can be pretty strict about fan-comics, so for now I'm just gonna be hosting it on my personal website, or here on tumblr.

To be honest, when you put it like that, NFCV Dracula reminds me of Walter when you put it like that. Because that’s literally. That’s literally Walter’s MO in Lament—save for the fact that Walter eventually got to the point where his sadism and lack of humanity compelled him to redecorate his castle into a gauntlet and start inviting people.

Anyway, yeah, I fully agree with you. I feel like the portrayal of the common people being “stupid and religious” and being treated like they have it coming by the fandom is sort of like… emblematic of how people talk about history in general in some progressive spaces. Everyone who lived back then was “stupid and a bigot” AND THEREFORE bad things that happened to them don’t matter.

Iirc, in NFCV Dracula was never Mathias, right? I think I remember something about that from an interview around S3, but maybe that was changed in the new show? I haven’t seen it myself. I just… I think something inside of me died after I saw their portrayal of Death, yanno? I can’t bring myself to try it yet, even though I’ve heard it’s much better.

It's annoying that most posts of show Dracula are people saying that he is the most justified villain in the history of all media, but no one says a blip about how this is a "fridging the girlfriend / wife to trigger the male partner manpain" cliche. The woman gets killed off so the male character can have grief, rage, character development, a corruption arc etc.

It's probably testament of how ubiquitous the trope still is. It's funny how different people treat it: NFCV fans dunk on the games for overusing it (true), but turn a blind eye over the shows themselves relying on it (Adventurer Lady, poor Julia Belmont which is just offensive), limiting themselves to "oh this badass female character had so much potential". And then you have cases like the OMORI fandom where the fans will actively clown on and dehumanize the murdered sister lol, or the Sonic fandom that turned "cheering for the white girl getting shot" into a meme. Fandoms nowadays seem to react to the trope with general mockery of the dead woman, because everything has to be turned into a haha funny meme.

Honestly it's not even that that bothers me about Dracula's reception in the fandom. It's the saying unironically that his "crash out" was justified, that the commoners had it coming, that he was nice to them by giving them one year and so it's on the peasants for not listening (he literally says with his own mouth that he needed that year to make an army but sure). Yes, Dracula is cool and suave and is voiced by Graham McTavish, but idk. I don't like this lack of empathy.

Also, I'll be real. I feel worse for game Dracula than show Dracula. Game Dracula lost two wives: the first time he spent one year bedridden with depression, and after becoming a vampire he chilled for four centuries, cursing God but welcoming humans in need of a place out of the human world (Hector and Isaac). He's still a bastard, and he was a bastard as a human too (poor Leon and Sara), but he is genuinely more tragic than the dick who went around slaughtering innocents for shit and giggles before becoming a recluse out of boredom and who clearly was so dangerous even when tamed by Lisa, that she called him "worse than Satan because he's real". Bro didn't even help out Hector and Isaac when he met them, he hired them only when he needed their powers: had Lisa never been killed, he would have left them in total isolation ripe for persecution. So no, show Dracula is not "the most justified villain in history". He's a rabid dog who just wanted an excuse to return to killing people.

Julius showing up to the yearly Belmont-Belnades-Denasty reunions in the bustling town of Wygol wearing AVIATOR SUNGLASSES and LEOPARD PRINT and someone being like “lol Julius it’s not the 80s anymore” and he’ll tell them to shut up. Alucard is also always invited but he doesn’t always show up (he will always reply to the RSVP request at least). He doesn’t show up for a few years in a row so someone just ends up bringing a cardboard cutout of him and props it up at one of the tables.

Yoko takes a few selfies with it. Julius laughs from a few tables down when he sees her doing that. She cajoles him into also taking a selfie with Cardboard!Alucard. He does it mostly to humor her and also because it’s on the way to grabbing food from the catering table anyway.

Michelle Danasty is stuck on her phone, trying to get Curtis Lang to stop by to say hi to everyone. He’s welcome to, as Julius’s apprentice, but he feels too out of place so he’s declining. She and Yoko end up ditching the gathering a bit early to see a park they used to play at together.

Alucard then finally shows up because it turns out he just forgot to RSVP for the first time ever and ends up staring blankly in confusion at his cardboard likeness for at least 2 minutes.
