tedoire headcanons based on what i remember from my notes at 12 am
they're 2 years apart, teddy's in hufflepuff and victoire is in ravenclaw
they get together in victoire's seventh year, teddy comes to surprise her in hogsmeade and when she asks him why he's disturbing her weekend he kisses her (she sort of guessed he was going to)
victoire is almost always the big spoon
they share all their clothes
teddy can't sleep if victoire isn't draped over him somehow, like she has to have a leg around him at LEAST
vic knows teddy best other than andromeda and harry
he definitely has anger issues and vic is one of the people who's best at calming him down
victoire is the nail stylist of half the wotter clan and teddy is no exception
they're definitely best friends first, being a couple later, which is why so many people think they're off-and-on. they just don't really act any differently after they get together
victoire knows what she wants, and she GETS what she wants. even if she didn't start dating teddy until she was seventeen, she knew she was going to date him someday.
(vic fell first, teddy fell harder, except they're both super in love with each other)
they're the prettiest couple tbh
naps on the couch where victoire is laying there looking like sleeping beauty and teddy looks like a fucked up contortionist
vic's the scary one actually... even james, who's scared of teddy when he's mad, thinks victoire is more intimidating
if victoire clocks someone flirting with teddy she is suddenly draping herself over him and teddy's oblivious ass gets so confused... he's like ok sure but why now in front of the nice guy getting us coffee??
and vic's like dw babe there's a reason you're not in ravenclaw
teddy was head boy, vic was head girl
victoire doesn't like people being jealous of her unless they're jealous that she's dating teddy. she wants people to be jealous like that.
victoire does teddy's makeup
no way these two are a cishet couple... teddy is transmasc and pan and victoire is bi and demisexual
victoire becomes a cursebreaker like bill, teddy becomes an auror (though i think he would probably quit after a few years and find something close to where vic works)
teddy is 100% a stay at home dad when they have kids
ik a lot of people hc them as having kids young but i feel like teddy would want that and victoire would want to wait a bit longer
victoire is constantly sucking up to andromeda and andromeda knows but she doesn't care bc she loves vic
meanwhile bill is skeptical of teddy but fleur loves him
fleur is trans btw. fleur is trans and teddy becomes her #1 fan when he finds out (this is something they bond over)
skater boy x roller blade girl (teddy's terrible at rollerblading but vic is better than him at skateboarding)
teddy makes victoire teach him french when they're little and they keep practicing as they get older (merlin knows teddy needs it)
(after they start dating teddy says it'll come in handy when he meets fleur's family, he doesn't realize victoire's been thinking this since she was 9 and first started teaching him)
teddy's year is super small since he was born during the height of the war, and victoire made sure she met every single person to see if they were a threat to her future plans with teddy
gonna end this here but might do part 2 bc i love this ship sm

It's Time To Go
My Second Submission for Era #2 of the @cruelsummer-ficfest (had to get this one done because if the next eras are what I think they are based on the hints, I need to be READY!)
Song: It's Time To Go
Album: Evermore
Ship: Tedoire (lol, somehow I managed to throw Romione in there too because I can't help it)
When the words of a sister come back in whispers
That prove she was not in fact what she seemed
July
Sobs echo down the hall from Victoire’s room, where she lays curled up on her bed. It’s the same story every night since she found out the girl she thought was her friend was only using her to get closer to Teddy.
Victoire has no one to blame but herself for the pain. It’s all her fault. She invited Carla to join their study sessions. She introduced them. But Vic never divulged her silly crush to Carla. Because how can you tell someone that you’re falling in love with your best friend—who you’ve known your entire life—when you won’t even admit it to yourself?
There’s a soft knock on her door, but Vic’s not in the mood to talk. “Go away.”
The door opens anyway, only it’s not Maman or Dominique. It’s Aunt Hermione. Sitting up, she wipes the tears from her eyes and apologizes. “Oh, sorry! I didn’t realize it was you.”
Hermione offers a soft smile and closes the door. “No need to be sorry. Can I sit down?”
Vic nods and gestures toward her desk chair. She’s close to her aunt—most likely because of their shared love of knowledge—but not ‘sit on the bed for girl talk’ close.
“Now, I’m not trying to throw your sister under the bus, but she told your mum what’s going on, and your mum told me. They thought maybe I could help.”
Vic feels as though a bucket of ice has been poured over her. As if her former friend/dorm mate stealing her crush and best friend wasn’t bad enough, her sister divulges her deepest, darkest secret? Naturally, the only thing Vic thinks to do is lie about it.
“Whatever she said, it’s not true.”
Hermione chuckles. “She only said your dorm mate recently started dating Teddy and you feel as though you’ve lost your best friend.”
“Oh, well, yeah. That’s true.”
“I completely understand.”
Vic looks up with questioning eyes. Is she just saying she understands, or does she actually understand? “You do?”
“Don’t you pay attention when George and Ginny love to give your Uncle Ron a hard time?” Hermione says through a laugh. “Although, my dorm mate and I were never exactly friends when she decided to snog your uncle in the middle of the common room for everyone to see.”
The hesitation Vic had been feeling transforms to relief. “Did she know you fancied him when she did it, too?” Her hand claps over her mouth. She didn’t mean to give that away.
“Don’t worry. Your secret’s safe with me.” A knowing look crosses Hermione’s face, but is replaced with a hint of sadness as she reflects on her experience for Vic. “I thought I was obvious about my intentions—to Ron, at least—especially after I’d asked him to attend a party with me. But you can never assume the male species will pick up what you’re putting down. Lavender, however, I think knew even though we had never spoken about it, but chose to go for him anyway.”
Anger begins to simmer under Vic’s skin.. “Why do girls do this to each other? I don’t get it. Carla knows how close I am with Teddy. I thought she was just looking for study partners when she tagged along with us to the library. She wasn’t acting all flirty or anything at all! But then she went behind my back and invited him to the last Hogsmeade weekend without me. Teddy didn’t know. He thought I was joining them, so he told me they’d be at  The Three Broomsticks. And when I walked in, I saw her snogging him in a booth. I haven’t spoken to either of them since.”
Another treacherous tear escapes her eyes, forging a path down her cheek before she wipes it off.
“Are you planning to give Teddy the silent treatment all summer?” Hermione asks.
Vic folds her arms over her chest, her sadness shifting into defiance. “I—well, I’m certainly not going to speak to him first.”
“Well,” Hermione replies with a sigh, “I suppose that isn’t a terrible idea, but what if it doesn’t work?”
Even though she says it’s not terrible, Vic doesn’t believe her aunt. She’s totally lying.
“Why wouldn’t it work? If he has the guts to snog Carla in the middle of the busiest pub in Hogsmeade, he should have the guts to at least tell me he’s dating my best friend.”
“Yes, but if he doesn’t know why you’re mad, you won’t receive the reaction you’re hoping for.” Hermione gets up from the chair and joins Vic on the edge of her bed. “Victoire, you and Teddy are close. Do not be like me and let someone else try to take that away from you. Even if he doesn’t feel the same way, it’s not worth losing his friendship over. If Ron hadn’t almost died, I can’t honestly say if we would have ever recovered from that.”
“But you did.”
“We did. And you can too—only much faster if you seek him out first. Sometimes giving up is the strong thing, or running out is the brave thing. But you have to decide if walking out is the one thing that will find you the right thing.”
Vic laughs. “You sound like a Sphinx.”
Hermione leans over and nudges Vic with her shoulder. “I know. Just know there’s always another way. You’re a smart young woman, Victoire Weasley. I know you’ll do what’s right for you. And you and Teddy will work your way through this. I just don’t want to see you hurt the way I was.”
“Thanks, Hermione.” Vic wraps her arms around her aunt’s torso.
She appreciates the conversation and having someone who knows what this kind of heartbreak is like. Maybe she can even allow herself to feel hopeful. Especially since Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione obviously figured it out in the end.
But even though she knows Hermione is probably right, Vic needs some time and space. So for now, she’ll choose to run. Even though it may ruin her summer, she’s not ready to face Teddy. At least not yet.
Or that moment again, he’s insisting that friends
Look at each other like that
August
“Ted?”
“Huh?”
Teddy had been pushing the food around his plate and staring off into space, not paying attention to the conversation around the dinner table. He was thinking about Victoire again. And he really shouldn’t be—at least not in that way—since he technically had a girlfriend.
Who you’ve avoided seeing all summer.
Ginny chuckles. “Harry asked you if you’re excited for seventh year. But if there’s something else you’d rather talk about, we’re all ears.”
“It’s fine, Gin. Don’t press him,” Harry covers for him.
“No, no, it’s fine.”
Shaking the haze from his mind, Teddy does his best to focus on Harry and Ginny. It’s the last time he’s going to see them until Christmas. The least he can do is engage in conversation. His meager teenaged concerns can wait.
“I—yeah—I can’t believe it’s my last year already. Can’t wait.” He tries to bite back a grimace, knowing that he’s trying too hard, and hopes to Merlin that his hair hasn’t shifted to a sandy brown.
But Lily only solidifies his fears when she points at him with wide eyes. “Ooooh, Teddy’s hair changed colors!”
Damnit.
“You know, I think I forgot to pack all the stuff we got at Diagon Alley today. I better go do that.”
He slides his chair back and leaves the table without being excused. It’s not like he’s that hungry anyway. Teddy bounds up the stairs two at a time, and shuts the door upon entering his small bedroom. After flopping on the bed, he covers his face with a pillow.
This was supposed to be the best summer yet. He and Vic had so many activities planned. She was going to take him to the sea, show him Shell Cottage. They were going to study together, vowing to get a head start on their work so it wouldn’t catch up with them during the term. Teddy was going to show her the ropes for Prefect duties—he was that certain she’d be named one. And with all that extra one-on-one time, he was hoping to finally decode her—to figure out if her heart beat just as fast when they’re together.
But then Carla snogged him and everything changed. He was trapped in a relationship with a girl he didn’t have feelings for and no way to get out of it.
And ever since Vic has been radio silent. Avoiding him at all costs. They stopped talking and studying together at the end of June, and Vic hasn’t owled him to follow through on any of their proposed summer plans. He thought maybe they could talk at one of the giant Weasley family gatherings, but Vic was always surrounded by Fleur, Dom, or her aunts.
A knock on his door tears him from his thoughts before Harry enters.
“Hey. Er, you sure everything’s alright?” His godfather runs a hand through his ever-messy black hair and leans against the back of the door.
“Yeah. I just don’t think I’m looking forward to the year as much as I thought I would be,” Teddy admits, his voice muffled by the pillow.
“Ah.” Harry pauses for a moment before continuing cautiously. “Does it have anything to do with Victoire?”
Throwing the pillow off his face, he sits up and offers Harry a bored, yet sheepish, look. “Is it that obvious?”
“It’s hard to miss.”
“I don’t know what I did wrong. Everything was fine before Carla and I started dating.”
Harry purses his lips and tries to hold back a snort, but fails. It comes out like choked laughter instead.
“What?” Teddy narrows his eyes in annoyance.
“Nothing. Nothing. You just remind me of—never mind.”
Teddy groans. “Seriously, Harry, this is not a Ron and Hermione scenario.”
He’s heard enough stories about the seven year lead up to their relationship and all the bumps they hit along the way. But that wasn’t him and Vic. They were just friends…until they weren’t?
Shit. We ARE Ron and Hermione 2.0.
Harry simply raises an eyebrow at him. “Ted, I know I may not be the best person to talk about this with, but trust me. Just because I don’t like to talk about these things does not mean I haven’t noticed. I’ve seen the way she looks at you. And the way you look at her.”
The urge to deny everything takes hold and Teddy shakes his head.
“You’re mental. We are just friends. Friends look at each other like that. Especially friends who’ve known each other their whole lives.”
It’s a weak argument, but his stubbornness gets the best of him. He’s not about to admit anything. Not when he’s fucked it up so badly by letting Carla in.
“Right.” “What?”
Harry shrugs. “Nothing. I can’t make you see what you don’t want to, but can you promise me one thing?”
Teddy watches Harry for a few moments. The man has never led Teddy astray before, so what has he got to lose? “I’ll try.”
“Talk to her. Figure things out. And don’t be as thick as Ron was.”
Teddy takes a moment to let the words sink in. He knows Harry isn’t saying it to make the holidays a little less tense. Harry just wants Teddy to be happy. He always has. And so, Teddy nods.
“I’ll try.”
Because losing Vic isn’t an option.
Before his mind begins to swirl with all the ways he can get his best friend back, Harry interrupts him once more before leaving. “Gin’s taking the kids to the Burrow in a bit. Want to join?”
“Think Vic’ll be there?”
“Maybe.”
“Okay. Yeah.”
Harry nods. With a single glance back, and perhaps a hint of a smile on his lips that Teddy can’t quite see, he says, “I’ll let you know when it’s time to go.”

Summary: James wastes no time in telling everyone about what he saw at Platform 9 & 3/4. How does everybody react?
Pairing: Teddy Lupin/Victoire Weasley
Preview
They stood there in comfortable, passionate togetherness, when they were interrupted, much too soon, by a loud, horrified shout of:
"Oi! What do you think you're doing?"
James was standing there staring at his cousin and his god brother (as he insisted on calling Teddy), his hand over his mouth, his eyes wide open in horror.
Teddy broke away and gave James his best imitation of Ginny's THE LOOK, with his arms still around Victoire.
"James, I just came to see her off," he said patiently.
"Were you snogging her?" came the awed response. James's eyes looked as though they were going to pop out. Teddy resisted a conquering urge to laugh.
"Go away, James." Teddy looked at Victoire and shrugged as James gaped at them one more time and turned away, disappearing into the crowd.
"Guess you've traumatized yet another kid." Victoire said, nestling closer in Teddy's arms.
"I only hope he hasn't gone and told everyone on the platform yet," Teddy said fervently, resting his chin on top of her head.

Tedoire is queer.
Remus bi lupin and Nymphadora non binary Tonks in no way produced a cisgender child.
Teddy Lupin is genderfluid and bi as fuck.
Victoire Weasley is pansexual and uses she/they pronouns. She is not straight.
I refuse to believe this ship is straight, it is unfathomable to me.

Am I to suffer this constant stream of interruption?
The quaint village of Hogsmeade was abuzz with the excitement of students from Hogwarts enjoying their first weekend visit of the fall term. Among the loud and cheerful crowd, a blue-haired wizard calmly leaned against a lamppost, watching two teenagers try to sneak bottles of butterbeer out of the pub.
Or at least he hoped he looked calm. Teddy Lupin was surprised at how sweaty his palms felt and how fast his heart was racing. It shouldn't be that big of a deal to be standing in Hogsmeade. He was no longer a student, having worked as a legislative aid for the newly reformed Werewolf Affairs and Support Office (formally the Werewolf Registration Office) for over a year. He was allowed to be in the village whenever he wanted. And while this visit had been marked on his calendar for several weeks it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. Except today was actually in fact a big deal. A Very big deal.
Teddy Lupin had planned this visit with Victoire Weasley since September. It was their first official outing as a couple. And while he had known Vic her whole life the thought of actually being an official couple still made his heart jump and his head swirl in a whirlpool of incoherent thoughts.
And really what was there to be nervous about? The kiss at Platform 9 3/4 proved that the romantic feelings were mutual. She had flashed her sweet smile and said, "I love you too, and not in a cousin-sort-of-family-way either" while she boarded the train and his heart had swelled in size. And on top of that their near-daily letters full of flirtations, gossip, advice, and thoughts he'd only dare share with here were enough proof that the relationship was real. This wasn't a dream.
No, really he shouldn't be nervous.
He just wanted this day to be perfect. For her. Because she was perfect. And they had both been waiting for this day for far too long.
As Teddy scanned the high street of Hogsmeade once more, he couldn't help but smile at the sight of Victoire running toward him. Her blonde hair whipped around her in the autumn wind. She was radiant. Just as he was about to take in the cool pool blue of her eyes he was knocked back into the lamppost as she wrapped around him in a big hug. Their laughter mingled together as he leaned in to kiss her lips in a proper greeting.
"Hi." She breathed, their faces still close together. His hands now placed on her slender waist.
"Hi." He smiled back.
"Did you wait long?"
"Yes, it's been months of waiting."
"You exaggerate. It's only been weeks."
Teddy looked down at her laughing face and wondered if he should counter with his real thoughts of how waiting months, weeks, or even days without her was too much. Maybe she should drop out of school right now and they live as bohemians across the continent. He thought the better of it though and simply grabbed her hand and led her inside to the Three Broomsticks.
Vic found a small table in a corner of the pub while Teddy went to get the drinks.
"So, how's the castle? Did you get those Celtic ruin translations finished?" Teddy asked as he returned with the two butterbeers.
"Oh, it got finished. Not sure any of it was correct though." Vic accepted the bottle and after a beat gave Teddy an incredulous look, "You know, I don't really understand the point of having an older boyfriend if you can't help me with my homework. I can't believe you took a completely different set of NEWT courses than me."
Teddy took a long sip of his butterbeer before replying "My apologies, should I give you Titus Whinchley's floo address? I'm pretty sure he got O's in Ancient Ruins and Arithmancy."
"Oh Merlin, don't even joke about doing that. Titus Whinchley is more boring than Binn's lecture on goblin uprisings."
"And you already have a boyfriend, of course."
"Oh yes, that too."
Teddy and Vic both leaned into each other when - "Oi! Teddy!"
A blur of dark hair ran into view and dropped himself into the empty chair at their table. "You didn't tell me you were visiting today! Can you get me a firewhiskey?"
"No, James" Teddy stated firmly and gave James Potter a pointed look. "Get lost."
"What? No! Come on! Haven't you missed me?" James leaned back in his chair and propped his feet onto the round wooden table.
"Ew, James get your muddy boots off the table! That's so rude!" Victoire exclaimed as she kicked the chair from underneath her cousin and he tumbled onto the hard floor.
"I'm just being friendly," James said as he stood up and rubbed his bottom. " Are you two going to be one of those gross couples that just snog all the time and call each other the most sicking nicknames?"
Teddy rolled his head back and stared at the ceiling, wondering what misdeed he did in a past life to be cursed with James Potter's existence. "Only when we're around you."
James gave out a snort in disgust and bounded away out the door.
"He misses you, you know," Vic said as she took a sip of her drink. "Or at least he did last year. He was pretty down without you around. I overheard him talking to Professor Longbottom about how school seemed pointless without his best friend."
"I'm his older brother, not his best friend."
Vic looked up at Teddy with a smirk on her face as he took another sip of butterbeer. "I don't think he sees the difference."
Teddy disguised his choke as a cough.
After they had warmed themselves with drinks and each other's company they ventured to Honeydukes where Teddy and Victoire indulged in an assortment of sweets. Vic insisted she needed more sustenance for studying. "You can't get through NEWTS without sugar quills, everyone knows that." Teddy never needed an excuse to buy more chocolates.
As they strolled the aisles, James Potter materialized out of thin air, and Teddy caught sight of a familiar shimmery silver material that James was wading up and placing in his school bag.
"What are you doing with the cloak?" Teddy asked shaking his head in disbelief.
"Dad gave it to me."
"I know, but what are you doing with it in Honeydukes? You're not shoplifting are you? I'll buy you anything you want."
"Nah, I was just waiting for Fred. I've been trying to get the jump on him all day. He pushed me into the lake yesterday, you know."
Teddy ran his hand through his hair which changed from his normal bright blue to duller yellow. "Just don't cause trouble OK? I'm here to hang out with Vic, not babysit you."
"Do you have the map?"
"No, why would I carry around a map of a school I don't go to anymore."
"I know Dad gave it to you."
"Yeah, because my dad made it."
"So did my grandfather. You should give it to me. Don't even think about giving it to Al. He won't do anything fun with it."
"I gave it back to Harry after I graduated."
"Why would you do a thing like that?"
"As I said earlier, I don't need a map for a school I no longer attend. I'm sure Harry will give it to you eventually."
"Why won't he give it to me now?"
"He doesn't trust you."
"Why didn't you give it to me then?"
"I don't trust you either."
"Oi, Vic, your boyfriend is boring" James turned to Victoire. Victoire just rolled her eyes and pushed James out of the way.
"Come on, Teddy let's make our purchases and leave. I need to go to the bookstore." Vic swished her hair over her shoulder and marched toward the cashier. Teddy gave James a parting pat on the back and followed Vic to the front of the shop.
At the bookstore, Victoire looked for a present for her sister Dominque while Teddy looked over a selection of ink wells. "She loves all those cheesy romance books but I think it's time to refine her palate. Maybe The Alchemist's Daughter's Diary?
"Isn't that also a cheesy romance novel?"
"Oh Ted, you know nothing of the classics."
As Teddy rounded the corner of shelves he walked straight into another shopper causing him to drop ink down the front of his robes..
"Hey, Teddy, when you and Vic have kids will I be their uncle or cousin?"
Teddy looked widely around the store. "Are you doing this on purpose?"
"What running into you everywhere you go?" James asked innocently, "Nah, it's just a small village and there isn't much to do."
"Don't you have friends to hang out with?"
"Archie is in detention and Ellie is helping her dad in the greenhouse. Splinter is trying to flirt with Peggy and it is decidedly too painful to watch. But for real: Am I an uncle or a cousin?"
"You have a friend named Splinter?"
"You're ignoring the question. Uncle or Cousin?"
"You're nothing. What are you talking about?" Teddy grabbed James' should and steered him in the direction of the door as Vic purchased two books for her sister. "This is literally my first date with Vic and we are teenagers. We aren't even close to talking about kids. At this point, I'm lucky if we'll make it to Christmas at the pace you keep disrupting our time together."
"Ah, she's used to me." James shrugged off Teddy's hand and turned to face him. "Are you coming to my match next week?"
"Of course I am, I told you so in my last letter."
"Good, it's my first ever match on a real team. I want to make sure you see me win. "
Teddy was never sure if James' confidence was an act to rile people up or if he was genuinely that sure of himself. Teddy advised James to go back to school soon before curfew and joined Vic at the register and to pay for the ink that he had spilled.
"Do you think that kid has ever had a thought he didn't immediately have to shout out loud?" Teddy asked Vic while they watched James skip up the street and tackle his cousin Fred, he was distracted with the latest Firebolt 300 in the window of the quidditch shop to notice James, into a bale of hay.
"Maman says Auntie Ginny needs to reteach him proper conversation techniques."
"I don't think the Potters believe in your mother's standard of etiquette."
Vic just shrugged and continued to lead Teddy up the street until they reached the path past the train station that led back to the castle. But just as their lips were about to meet in a sweet farewell, a familiar voice rang out.
"Teddy! Victoire! I -" Teddy swished his wand and James froze on the spot.
"I'll unfreeze him on my way out," Teddy told Victoire as he tightened his grip around her waist. "I didn't want him to ruin our goodbye again"
"You know" Vic whispered as their noses started to touch. "As head girl, I can ensure that he is in detention next Hogsmeade visit."
Teddy chuckled as their lips met. "Great, I'm sure he'll do something to deserve it."
And just like their parting in September as he kissed Vic deeply her warm soft touch made his skin tingle and his hair turn bright pink with happiness.
"Still thinking about calling Titus Whinchley?
"Shut it"
"Love you."
"Love you, too."

Day 13: Teddy
Thirteen Days of Christmas
Aaaaand that's a wrap! Thank you all for joining me on this fun, festive adventure. Here's the last of thirteen seasonal one-shots — one for each of the Weasley-Potter grandkids. Chapter artwork by the lovely, incredibly talented @thecatisdrawing.
Tumblr media
It took Teddy a good five minutes to realize that the pounding racket in his head was not, in fact, his brain attempting to escape his skull. Rather, it was coming from outside the comfort and security of his closed eyeballs—from the front door of his flat, to be exact. By the time he had come to his senses enough to recognize the sound for what it was, his best friend Travis had begun adding to the din by banging on the wall that separated Teddy's bedroom from their flat's shared bathroom.
"Get the bloody door, Lupin, or I'll bring my hangover into your room!"
Normally, Teddy might have argued. But after seven years of friendship, Teddy knew not to take Travis's threats—or nausea-filled hangovers—lightly. With a long, loud groan, Teddy slowly dragged himself out of his quilts and began staggering down the flat's dark hallway, grumbling under his breath all the while.
"Fucking hell…Boxing Day…some of us like a lie-in…"
Running a hand through his disheveled green hair, Teddy pulled open the front door. His jaw dropped.
"Vic?" he gasped. "I—I thought you were in France!"

Hello, I've lived reading your Teddy/Victoire fics and since you said on your profile that you're happy to take request I'd like to ask for one, perhaps a sad breakup one of them? That more heartbreaking and gut wrenching the better lol
Christmas
-
“Oh!” Victoire whispered. “You’re down here.”
Teddy jumped, looking away from the fireplace to where Victoire stood at the bottom of the stairs. She was in her pyjamas, with thick, fuzzy socks knitted by Grandma Molly pooling around her ankles, but Teddy, she noticed, was still in the clothes he’d arrived in that evening. The Christmas tree stood in the corner, topped with a golden gnome and twinkling with candlelight.
“What is it?” Teddy said, sounding more tired than Victoire had ever heard before.
“I just wanted to talk to you.” Victoire sat beside him on the couch, her leg pressed against his. Teddy nodded, his eyes moving back to the flickering fireplace. His hair was dull, she noticed, like the colour had been washed out.
He seemed upset that evening - he hadn’t talked to anyone much, except when he and Harry had gone for a long walk after dinner. So long, in fact, that almost everyone had gone to bed before they’d returned. Victoire had waited up for him the entire time, eager to get him alone. It was the first time she’d seen him since last summer, and she was desperate to spend any time with him she could while on break.
“I’m just going to say it.” Victoire took a deep breath. “I think I’m in love with you. I haven’t stopped thinking about you, being at school without you is awful, I feel like I’ve lost something all the time. I know you think I’m too young, but I’ll be seventeen in May, it’s not that far, really, and I just- I had to tell you.”
Teddy didn’t say anything. He closed his eyes, his jaw clenched, and he moved his leg away so it wasn’t pressing against hers anymore. Victoire felt sick suddenly, she’d been so sure he felt the same way, with how he was the year before - he’d looked after her, helped her study, walked her to class. Even the few letters they had exchanged since he’d finished school seemed different, flirty maybe, like there was something more there.
She’d sat for hours upstairs that evening, whispering to Dominique if she should really come down and say something, if she should go find him in the house and confess her feelings - ones she’d had for years.
“Teddy?” She said quietly, touching his shoulder. He shrugged her off and rubbed his eyes aggressively.
“Vic-” Teddy said, and Victoire flinched. He sounded frustrated, like he did when James took his wand. He’d never talked to her like that before. “Why have you said that?”
“Because I have feelings for you-”
“This just complicates things, don’t you see?” He said, standing. Victoire stared up at him, her eyes wide. Her hands shook as she played with the hem of her pyjama top.
“But-”
“It doesn’t matter if you think you have some schoolgirl crush on me. I could lose everything, all of this.” Teddy said, gesturing around him. Victoire’s cheeks started to burn, she felt like she was being scolded for something she didn’t know was wrong.
“What would you lose?” She whispered as her chest clenched painfully.
“You have a family!” Teddy hissed as he tried to keep his voice down. “You have a family here who loves you, who takes care of you. I don’t have that. My parents are dead, Victoire. I haven’t got anyone.”
Victoire felt sick, her stomach turned as he spoke. She blinked back tears and wiped at her eyes, trying desperately not to look like he hadn’t just crushed her, that she hadn’t ruined everything. Teddy paced back and forth in front of her, tugging at his hair.
“Teddy, you have me!” Victoire felt a tear roll down her cheek, feeling so, so childish all of a sudden. “We are your family.”
“They don’t have to do this, you know? No one said they had to look after me. They’re not under an unbreakable vow,” Teddy took a deep breath. “If I took advantage of that, of you-”
“It’s not taking advantage, can’t you see? I love you.” Victoire pleaded.
Teddy shook his head, his hair was streaked with grey. “If I ever did anything to hurt you you don’t think they’d look at me differently? Your dad? Your uncles?”
“You wouldn’t!” Vic cried.
Teddy laughed coldly. “Don’t be stupid. I’m hurting you right now.”
Victoire let out a choked sob. “But it’s Christmas-”
“Yeah, it’s bloody Christmas. And tomorrow morning you’ll wake up to your siblings and mum and dad and have breakfast, and open presents and my parents will still be dead.” Teddy said, and walked away, slamming the front door to the Burrow as he did.
