Elon Musk coup news
So, as you may know, this weekend Elon took over the Treasury Department with a group of engineers, and while there are several lawsuits, fights, discussions, and people revolting at this moment(Please continue, we need to make sure they know we are not going to let this go.)
We now know some of the things he did, is doing, and a reason; so, first, he eliminated a program that democrats fought over in which you can file taxes for free, it was a new tool that would allow thousands of taxpayers to file them without having to go and pay someone or a corporation to do them, it is as of now gone, just in time for tax season.
Second, he is telling people that work from home that he is not going to give them their rightful money if they keep working from home.
And third, last time when the Trump administration cut the taxes on the rich, it was hard to do because they would have to find the money to make up for it, which is why they are trying to cut so many agencies now, once again lawsuits and discussions are happening right now as a direct result, but that doesn't change that this is just so they can fill their pockets and fortunately enough it seems Congress is mad about the overstepping of power and they don't have military support.
Also, Trump's plans to get Gaza have already stepped in by international law and a court of law, so there is that.

Hidden Charges in Personal Loans You Should Be Aware Of
A personal loan is a convenient financial tool that helps borrowers manage various expenses, from medical emergencies to home renovations. However, while lenders advertise attractive interest rates, there are often hidden charges in personal loans that can increase the overall cost. Being aware of these charges can help you make informed decisions and avoid unnecessary financial burdens.
1. Processing Fees
One of the most common charges in personal loans is the processing fee. Lenders deduct this amount before disbursing the loan, and it typically ranges between 1% and 3% of the loan amount. While some banks and NBFCs offer zero processing fee loans during promotional campaigns, most lenders charge this fee as a standard cost.
How to Avoid It:
Compare lenders to find lower processing fee options.
Check for seasonal offers where processing fees might be waived.
Negotiate with the lender if you have a strong credit score.
2. Prepayment and Foreclosure Charges
Many borrowers aim to repay their personal loan early to reduce interest costs. However, banks and NBFCs often charge prepayment and foreclosure fees, which can be 2% to 5% of the outstanding loan amount.
How to Avoid It:
Opt for lenders that allow zero prepayment or foreclosure charges.
Read the loan agreement carefully before signing.
Choose a shorter tenure to reduce interest costs without prepayment.
3. Late Payment Fees
Missing an EMI due date can lead to late payment penalties, which are typically a fixed amount or a percentage of the EMI. These charges can significantly increase your debt burden.
How to Avoid It:
Set up auto-debit for EMI payments.
Maintain sufficient balance in your account.
Use reminders to pay EMIs on time.
4. Loan Cancellation Charges
If you change your mind after taking a personal loan, you may have to pay cancellation fees. Some lenders allow cancellation within a short window, but they might still charge a percentage of the loan amount.
How to Avoid It:
Evaluate your need before applying for a loan.
Read the lender’s cancellation policy before proceeding.
5. Loan Rescheduling Fees
If you face financial difficulties and request a loan rescheduling or restructuring, lenders might charge a fee ranging from INR 1,000 to INR 5,000. This fee compensates lenders for administrative costs.
How to Avoid It:
Plan your loan tenure wisely to avoid rescheduling.
Improve financial discipline to ensure timely repayments.
6. Stamp Duty and Documentation Charges
Some lenders impose stamp duty and documentation fees for legal formalities. These charges vary based on the loan amount and state regulations.
How to Avoid It:
Ask for a clear breakdown of charges before signing the agreement.
Compare lenders to find those with minimal documentation fees.
7. GST on Loan Charges
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applicable on processing fees, prepayment charges, and foreclosure fees. This means the actual cost of these charges is higher than what’s initially quoted.
How to Avoid It:
Factor in GST while calculating loan expenses.
Look for lenders offering all-inclusive pricing.
8. Verification and Legal Fees
Banks and NBFCs may charge for verifying documents, performing background checks, or conducting legal assessments. These fees are not always disclosed upfront.
How to Avoid It:
Ask for a detailed fee structure before finalizing the loan.
Compare different lenders to choose the most transparent option.
9. Balance Transfer Charges
Many borrowers transfer their personal loan to another lender for lower interest rates. However, lenders charge a balance transfer fee, which is typically 1% to 3% of the outstanding loan amount.
How to Avoid It:
Ensure that the savings from lower interest outweigh the balance transfer charges.
Look for lenders offering zero balance transfer fees.
10. Insurance Premiums
Some lenders bundle loan protection insurance with personal loans, which increases the overall loan cost. While insurance is beneficial, it should be optional and not forcefully included.
How to Avoid It:
Ask whether loan insurance is mandatory or optional.
Compare the cost of insurance separately before agreeing to it.
Choosing the Right Personal Loan
Before finalizing a personal loan, it’s essential to compare options from various lenders. Here are some top options you can consider:
IDFC First Bank Personal Loan
Bajaj Finserv Personal Loan
Tata Capital Personal Loan
Axis Finance Personal Loan
Each of these lenders offers different benefits, processing fees, and repayment options. By carefully comparing them, you can avoid hidden charges and choose a loan that suits your financial needs.
Conclusion
Understanding the hidden charges in personal loans can save you from unexpected costs and financial stress. Before applying for a personal loan, always read the fine print, ask for a detailed fee structure, and compare multiple lenders. This will ensure you get the best loan deal without unnecessary expenses.

Musk steals a billion dollars from low-income Americans and sends it to Intuit
Tumblr media
I'm about to leave for a 20+ city book tour for my new novel PICKS AND SHOVELS. Catch me on Feb 14 in BOSTON for FREE at BOSKONE , and on Feb 15 for a virtual event with YANIS VAROUFAKIS. More tour dates here.
Tumblr media
Let me tell you about the most wasteful US federal government spending I know about. It's a humdinger. You and everyone you know are mired in it for weeks, or perhaps months, every year. It will cost you, personally, thousands of dollars over your lifetime. I'm talking about filing your taxes.
Not paying your taxes. Paying your taxes is fine. It keeps the country running, though not because the government needs our "tax dollars" to pay for things. The government annihilates the money it taxes away from us, and creates new money to pay for programs. The USA needs US citizens' dollars to build highways the same way Starbucks needs its Starbucks gift cards to make lattes – that is, not at all:
https://theglobepost.com/2019/03/28/stephanie-kelton-mmt/
I'm talking about filing your taxes. In nearly every case, a tax return contains a bunch of things the IRS already knows: how much interest your bank paid you, how much your employer paid you, how many kids you have, etc etc. Nearly everyone who pays a tax-prep place or website to file their tax return is just sending data to the IRS that the IRS already has. This is insanely wasteful.
In most other "advanced" countries (and in plenty of poorer countries, too), the tax authority fills in your tax return for you and mails it to you at tax-time. If it looks good to you, you just sign the bottom and send it back. If there are mistakes, you can correct them. You can also just drop it in the shredder and hire an accountant to do your taxes for you, if, for example, you run a small business, or are self-employed, or have other complex tax needs. A tiny minority of tax filers fall into that bucket, and they keep the tax-prep industry in other countries alive, albeit in a much smaller form than in the USA.
In the US, we have a duopoly of two gigantic tax-prep outfits: H&R Block, and Intuit, owners of Turbotax. These companies make billions from low-income, working Americans every year, charging them to format a bunch of information the IRS already has, and then sending it to the IRS on their behalf. These companies lobbied like crazy for the right to tax you when you pay your taxes.
In 2003, it looked like the IRS would start sending Americans pre-completed returns, so H&R Block and Turbotax went into lobbying overdrive, whipping up a "public private partnership" called the "Free File Alliance," that promised to do free tax prep for most Americans. But once the threat of IRS free filing was killed, they turned Free File into a sick joke. Americans who tried to use Free File were fraudulently channeled into filing products that cost money – sometimes hundreds of dollars – to use, a fact that was only revealed after the taxpayer had spent hours keying in their information. Free File sites were also used to peddle unrelated financial products to tax filers, with deceptive language that implied that buying these services was needed to file your return:
https://www.propublica.org/article/inside-turbotax-20-year-fight-to-stop-americans-from-filing-their-taxes-for-free
The big winner from the Free File scam was Intuit, which bought Turbotax in 1993. They made about one billion dollars per year ripping off Americans they'd promised to file free tax returns for. After outstanding work by Propublica, lawmakers and the IRS were finally pressured to create an IRS-based free filing service that would cut Intuit out of the loop. Intuit went on a lobbying blitz without parallel, giving out $3.5m in bribes in 2022 in a bid to kill the Treasury Department's study of a free filing service:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/20/turbotaxed/#counter-intuit
In 2022, nearly every US state attorney general settled their lawsuits against Intuit for the Turbotax ripoff, bringing in $141m:
https://www.agturbotaxsettlement.com/Home/portalid/0
In 2023, the FTC won a case against Intuit over the scam:
https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/blog/2023/09/nine-takeaways-initial-decision-intuit-turbotax-action
But Intut was undeterred. They came back in 2023 with a campaign to say that ripping off American tax-filers was antiracist and anyone who wanted the IRS to make filing free was, therefore, a racist:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/27/predatory-inclusion/#equal-opportunity-scammers
Strangely, no one bought that one. By May, 2023 the IRS had announced its own, in-house free file program:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/17/free-as-in-freefile/#tell-me-something-i-dont-know
Now, no one is forcing you to use this program. Do you have a family accountant that your grandparents started using in the Eisenhower administration? Just keep going to them. Do you like using Turbotax? Keep using it! Wanna do your own taxes? Here's the forms:
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040s.pdf
But if you want to file your taxes for free, and you earn $125,000/year or less, here's the IRS's service:
https://www.irs.gov/filing/irs-direct-file-for-free
Better use it quick, though. Elon Musk has just announced that he's killing it. Yeah, I know, no one elected him. That doesn't seem to matter to anyone, least of all Democrats on the Hill, who are still showing up for work every day and trying to engender a "spirit of comity" rather than screaming and throwing eggs:
https://apnews.com/article/irs-direct-file-musk-18f-6a4dc35a92f9f29c310721af53f58b16
Musk called IRS free file a "far left" program and announced that he had "deleted it." By the way, the median Trump voter's income is about $72k, meaning more than half of Trump voters qualified for free file:

In a post on X, unelected government official Elon Musk revealed that he has cut the staff of the Internal Revenue Service that oversaw the system that allows Americans to file their taxes for free easily on its website.
A right-wing MAGA influencer called the "direct file" tax program a "far left government wide computer office" that was "built by Elizabeth Warren."
He claimed, "Direct file puts the government in charge of preparing people's tax returns for them," he claimed.

2023, The Year of Self-Sabotage
Has anyone noticed the trend businesses have been on in 2023? There's a LOT of self-sabotage going on in the business world. Throughout my life, and everyone else has their own observations too, once in a while you see a company make a boneheaded decision about their product or service. And once in a while you'll see a decision get made that is bad, but maybe it at least has some justification (even to an anti-capitalist goober like myself). But this year has been nonsensical moves of greed or product/service sabotage that make no sense for longevity or harm what's in the best interest of the consumer.
Activision-Blizzard: The Overwatch debacle, and Diablo Immortal's scummy practices.
Netflix: The account sharing debacle.
Twitter: Maximum divorced loser Elon Musk destroying its functionality and branding and we still call it Twitter.
Reddit: Inspired by Musk's stupidity, the API tools debacle. Shame on the Reddit communities for not knowing how to strike btw (you don't put a time limit on it).
Hollywood: Pulling shows and films from streaming services to declare them as failed products and somehow get a tax write-off for it.
Also Hollywood: Willing to take quarterly losses greater than the annual cost to meet the demands of two striking unions put together.
Unity: Announced in the past day that it will charge developers a fee for installations because greed.
Titan Submersible: "Safety is for losers" says billionaire who proceeds to use his shoddy tech to do a murder-suicide.
Starbucks: Breaking ALL of the labor laws to try and stop unionization. Admittedly a reach to be on this list but the situation (like all the others) is ongoing and can compound.
Embracer: A massive corporate company that bought a bunch of smaller companies. Thought a 2 billion dollar deal with the Saudi government was a sure thing, so they spent 2 billion dollars on stuff. Deal falls through, so they start closing companies they acquired.
That's just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. These aren't business decisions done for the sake of consumers. These are all decisions done to spite consumers or the workers who produce the products and services.
People try to remember years as being the "year of" something. And it's a thing I do too. For me, 2023 is the year of corporate self-sabotage.

The Truth About Trumponomics
Trump and Republicans want to wreck your bank account. Here are 5 things you need to know about Trumponomics.
1.Trump wants tax cuts for the rich, at your expense.
Trump’s tax cuts for the rich and big corporations added about $1.7 trillion to the national debt, with few benefits trickling down to the middle class — in fact, it raised taxes for more than 10 million American families.
Now Trump and Republicans want to make the tax cuts for the rich permanent, blowing up the debt even further. And then they’ll use that debt to justify this:
2. Trump would cut Social Security and Medicare — programs you’ve been paying into!
In every year of his presidency, Trump submitted a budget that tried to cut Social Security and Medicare. And he knows that’s the only way he can even begin to pay for extending his tax cuts for the rich.
3. Trump and his allies are pro-junk fee.
When the Biden administration issued a rule capping credit card late fees at $8, Sen. Tim Scott, a Trump surrogate, tried to overturn it in the Senate. And then a Trump-appointed judge issued a temporary injunction that blocked the rule from taking effect. Eliminating that rule would cost American families an estimated $10 billion a year.
And when the Biden administration required airlines to issue automatic refunds for canceled flights, Trump’s allies in Congress fought to block that too.
When Trump was in office, his administration fought against efforts to rein in airline junk fees.
Corporations nickel and diming us like this makes inflation worse. If Trump gets back in the White House, buckle up for more junk fees.
4. Trump would send health care costs soaring.
Republicans have committed to repealing the Inflation Reduction Act, which would strip Medicare of the ability to negotiate drug prices, and let Big Pharma send the price of insulin and other life-saving medicines back through the roof.
And Trump is still fixated on repealing Obamacare, with no plan to replace it.
TRUMP: Obamacare is a disaster. We’re gonna do something about it.
That would strip coverage from tens of millions of Americans, drive up premiums, and let insurers charge more or deny coverage to people with preexisting conditions.
5, If you’ve got student debt, you’re out of luck with Trump.
In contrast to President Biden, who’s canceled more than $160 billion of student debt so far, Trump is against student debt relief. In his first term, he tried to eliminate the popular Public Service Loan Forgiveness program for people like teachers and nurses, and he’s called the idea of debt relief “unfair.”
What’s unfair, is how student debt hurts not just the roughly 40 million Americans burdened by it, but the entire economy, since Americans with debt have less money to spend, are less likely to start a business, less likely to buy a home, and more likely to rely on government assistance.
The MAGA agenda would make nearly every aspect of your life more expensive, while making the richest Americans even richer.
Teddy Roosevelt’s economic plan was called the Square Deal. Franklin Roosevelt’s was the New Deal.
What Trump is offering is simply a Raw Deal.
