Alright. I’m not a songwriter, I’ve played clarinet for like 8 years now, and I’ve mostly self-taught myself to write like written prose, but I’ve never really made my own music, so take all my suggestions with a grain of salt.

First is kind of step zero. Just listen to the music you’re trying to make and pick out what’s similar and different in songs, and what you like and don’t like. This is more of a passive thing to do while you’re learning the making-side of it

Otherwise, you’ve first got to know the groundwork of music. You don’t need a huge fancy music theory course or the history of key signatures, but you do have to know the notes both as sounds and lengths, how they interact, and the basic setups of keys and time. I’d suggest learning how to read sheet music too, so you don’t have to work solely by ear and you can write stuff reliably on paper and translate it as needed. YouTube is going to be your best bet here, there’s some great basic music theory videos on there

Second, learn the guidelines of your genre or genres. I’m not super familiar with any of your mentioned genres, but I know Wikipedia has some good articles on them, and YouTube once again is a good place to find breakdowns and instructional videos. You’ve probably picked up on several if not most of them from just listening to the music, but it’s usually helpful to have names to them so it’s easier to categorize when you’re working

Third, and technically you can do this one at any point, is just fuck around and find out. Practice is the best way to improve, and hopefully the fun part too. Your first attempts aren’t going to be anything near what you’re trying to do, but you don’t expect a toddler to complete in national track races either. It takes a frustrating amount of time to build a skill to a professional level, and it’s not a linear process either. Sometimes you’ll be on top of the world, sometimes it’ll feel like you’re going backwards, sometimes it’s just a whole lot of nothing, and all of those are fine. You just have to keep enjoying the process of making music and find joy in the final product regardless of quality and you’ll be fine. And don’t be afraid to take breaks too if you need them. I am really not qualified to suggest programs or apps or anything, but don’t be afraid to sacrifice professional-grade quality for cheaper and easier software. You can always swap up later, but you don’t usually teach a kid to read with Ulysses. This is just my suggestion though, it doesn’t really matter what you pick as long as you’re comfortable working with it and it does what you want it to do

Fourth and last on basic steps is just keep learning your genres and stuff, whatever comes up around your music making. Trial-and-error is great but very slow, and it helps to understand the tropes and things you’re implementing. Don’t worry about what people on the internet say you’re doing wrong yet, just focus on the fundamentals, what you’re doing right and what you’re having fun doing, and that will cover you

Depends. It would be against a lot of things to fast, if it would cause you harm. [I can't remember the names this late at night lol] I would say that with last year's lesson learned, try to do a smaller fast, maybe 8-10 hours? It's also permitted during fasting to have 1.5 fl oz of water every 9 minutes and "one cheek full" of water every 7 minutes, and it would still be permitted for the fast.

Kamala would need to win Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin from the looks of it. So, where does that leave us? Who’s to say all three of these states are very volatile. How do you find the writing in veilguard? I won't be able to play it for a while but I'm curious how it holds up because I've heard it reads like a YA novel or that it tells instead of showing. (I'm definitely taking online reviews with a grain of salt.) Is it enjoyable writing, especially the dialogue?

Frankly, the dialogue is fine. It is nothing more "YA novel" than anything done in Inquisition that I can think of--though I do generally take umbrage with any criticism phrased like that simply for being entirely too unspecific to mean anything at all. It implies the dialogue is unsophisticated by invoking a genre that, in actuality, represents a wide variety of writing quality (just like any genre of anything ever). I've read YA novels darker and more sophisticated than some piles of adult books, just as much as vice-versa. It's a lazy critique that tells you nothing. Is all the dialogue utterly fantastic? I mean, probably not but I'm having too much honest fun to waste my time worrying about if something is kind of cliched. My biggest pros for the writing are that a) Rook has an actual personality, and b) I don't have to wade into an empty field for an hour just to hear my companions say one line of dialogue to each other (Inquisition, the game that you were, you gave me such low standards). Your mileage may vary on what you think is good writing or not personally but I think the dialogue is just fine--and, yeah. A grain of salt is good to have with critiques like that. If they can't give clear examples and break down what they mean by that in more depth, I tend to ignore critiques of that variety in favor of my own opinions, which I recommend you do for yourself as well.

I'm doing a reading for a class that I withdrew from. It's an excerpt from a book about teaching, and the excerpt itself is about the refusal to learn. The author goes into detail about the difference between refusal to learn and failure to learn, and about why refusal to learn is a concept with its own merit. The price of refusal and its reward are pretty intertwined - you don't get to participate as fully with people who do learn, which can be a wanted or unwanted thing; you are set apart in status from those who learn, which again can be wanted/unwanted; you don't have your mindset changed, etc. etc.

❤️:I like a lot of the art that people make when it comes to Cayde (and Destiny in general).Some people are so,so talented.Drawings,cosplay,props,figures,blender renderings,what have you,I love it. The more love I see for one of my favorite characters,the better.Cayde deserves all of that love. I've also adored seeing New Lights get to meet Cayde for the first time in The Final Shape and fall in love with his character. It's something special.A whole new generation of Cayde fans.❤️

♠️:I'm honestly not as big of a fanfic reader as I used to be.Although,I do like it when people send me fanfics they've written,and I do read those (and if anyone ever wants to recommend fics,feel free and I'll take a look.❤️)

Something I like: 

❤️:In the few fanfics I have read involving Cayde,I like it when he gets to go on a quick adventure outside of the Tower,getting into some shenanigans and gets back in one piece. I also enjoy it if any of the Hunter gang are involved (or at least referenced) in said shenanigans,or if it makes me feel something,a good story should always make you feel something. Whether it makes you laugh or tugs on your heartstrings.

Some things I don't like:

-When people write Cayde where he uses slang like "rizz","babygirl","sigma"or "skibbity" casually in a sentence (yes, I've seen people write him like this,"babygirl" in the romantic sense?Maybe,but in the slang sense,no.I can't see him saying that.),if he were human (and not a centuries old Guardian 😅),I'm fairly certain based on his personality in the game, he'd be somewhere between his mid/late 30's-mid forties (Also basing this a little on both of his V.As who are currently in their 50's,but during most of Cayde's screentime throughout the games,they were in their 40's), he'd have no idea what those words meant.Even if he spent time around younger Guardians,it'd be like your dad using slang to sound cool and failing miserably at it,not to mention literally none of the characters talk like that in the game,which makes it even harder to imagine. (I personally couldn't take a character seriously, if they did.)

-When people write him like he wouldn't know what any real life current pop culture would be.Yes,Destiny takes place hundreds of years in the future,but he literally makes a reference to watching Firefly,a show that came out in 2002,and was cancelled after one season.(Also one of my favorite shows btw.😘)Cayde references it because his V.A is Nathan Fillion,who played the main character,Malcom Reynolds,on the show. It's an Easter egg,but it's still canon. He references it in idle dialogue in D1.

Here's a video I found, if anyone wants to hear him say it.

So saying he wouldn't at least know what something more popular and super ingrained in our current culture, like Star Trek or Star Wars is, would be a little far fetched in my opinion. Not to mention the people at Bungie are a bunch of nerds and there are literally hundreds of pop culture references throughout the actual games. (This has nothing to do with Cayde,but just further proving my point,one of the ornaments for Malfeasance itself is a Firefly reference. "Aim to misbehave"? Yeah,that line is a direct reference to Firefly.I also kinda wanted an excuse to use one of my favorite gifs of Mal. 👀)

I also understand that not everyone is a massive kriffing nerd like I am,and the likelihood of that being common knowledge is slim,so I at least understand why some people might not know that,but it's just a preference of mine. (Also historically,in real life, we know a lot about events,customs,and trends from hundreds of years ago,so saying the same of the Destiny-verse,which takes place in the future, isn't a stretch. Even if all historical records were destroyed,there would still be word of mouth stories handed down through the centuries.)

Needless to say, people can write and interpret Cayde however they want,I couldn't give a cotton sock,I'm an adult and I'm just answering the question and giving my opinions and preferences.Take them with a grain of salt. 😄

OKAY so we all agree that calling gale an abuser is wrong because he was in a relationship with a literal goddess who obviously had way more power than him and who took advantage of him as a teenager/young adult and now has put a BOMB IN HIS CHEST and expects him to kill himself to destroy the absolute yeah okay anyways. the game literally punishes you for following mystra's orders and allowing gale to "redeem" himself by killing everyone during the final battle in act 2... the worst ending imaginable happens! ur whole party dies, the game immediately ends, mind flayers take over the city! everyone becomes infected or enslaved! the whole game ends miserably!! the narrative in the game tells you explicitly that, by gale following mystra's orders, it becomes the worst thing he could've possibly done not just for himself, but for humanity!! the story is explicitly telling us that gale's story is not strictly about redemption, but about freeing himself from the burden of mystra's manipulation. and freeing himself from her, freeing himself from this idea that he must prove his worthiness to her, is the best thing he can do for himself!! like literally this is the narration telling u that mystra isnt SHIT!!! and yet there are still sillies in this fandom trying to say otherwise. u guys are SILLY! play the game again! read this time! pls! im begging you!
