happy year of the dragon 🎉🎊🐉 with our favorite golden dragon
(and, because it wouldn't be a post of mine, after all, without a long footnote: to be clear, villentretenmerth was inspired by the legend of the dragon of wawel hill, and when people (meaning: netflix) erroneously claim that he was inspired by asian dragons instead, and mention nothing of this krakówian dragon nor the cobbler twiney whom defeated it, it actually kind of ticks me off, not only because i find it lazy, but also because the whole point of villentretenmerth's character is that he's a subversion of the type of cruel, greedy dragon from european mythology... however, i'm setting all of this aside momentarily, because since i was born in 2000, my zodiac is that of a golden dragon, and because i also happen to be a witcher fan... i call for borch-posting)

in the books, it's very explicitly implied that téa and véa are having sex with borch. in the show, jaskier's song the golden one, talks of him having 'won the hearts of the huntress pair'... so i think we can quite safely say that jaskier fucked that old man.

I feel like my lovely ladies Téa and Véa, don't get enough love.
"Véa, was one of two Zerrikanian warriors, along with Téa, who accompanied Borch Three Jackdaws wherever he went. He liked to refer to them as his weapons and rightfully so, as their sword skills with their sabres were unmatched."
I don't agree with the "his weapons" as it implies ownership, but it is in the book.

I’ve found that every time I look for the Witcher content, I mostly look for Jaskier, Geralt or both (damn my shipping heart). This is actually kind of sad for me because while I watched the show I spent A LOT of time admiring practically every female character on it.
So this is my female “The Witcher” characters appreciation post - where I’ll try to list as many female characters and why I loved them (in no particular order):
Yennefer - I love everything about her, really. She’s not an easy person to get along with and she tends to put her own ambitions first. That doesn’t mean she doesn't care deeply for the people she knows. I loved watching her learn how happiness isn’t always linked with getting what you want, but still try to get the unattainable and go for what she wants. Her being physically deformed in the beginning and how fixing that didn’t fix her problems was incredibly inspiring, too. Plus she’s beautiful and was beautiful even before she “fixed” her body.
Renfri - She had BADASS screaming in my mind from the first moment she spoke. I thought her affair with Geralt was rushed and made no sense, but she really didn’t need him to be awesome. And I felt her anger and desire for revenge with every fiber of my being. Her fighting scene was very impressive. (She was also the first character that made me applaud the costume designers for making female armors smart and practical without sexualizing them)
Cirilla - She’s sweet and compassionate, she listens to others and doesn’t judge without reason, and she is capable of acting under pressure (like when she stabbed the doppler in the neck). Also, such a cinnamon roll!
Calanthe - Again, I loved basically everything about this character. She’s strong but not invincible, smart but still makes many mistakes, very protective and caring for her family even if at the expense of others, and she’s even willing to fight destiny itself for her loved ones. And she’s Badass af.
Tissaia - She is hard and sometimes cruel, but she still tries her best to give her students what they want and need. She’s strong and regal and tries to do her best for what she believes.
Triss - Kindhearted, sweet and ready to help, she is one of the most moral characters we see. I hope to get more of her.
Pavetta - She neutralized an entire hall full of guards, knights, warriors and even a Witcher to get to be with her loved one. If that’s not determination and power I don’t know what is.
Fringilla - Strong, smart and not to be underestimated. Her willingness to learn forbidden things is something I personally appreciate.
Marilka - Both sweet and spice. Her willingness to approach a Witcher despite what everyone else around her thinks is admirable. Also, her wanting to join Geralt rather than stay in her boring life - same. The fact she changed her mind in the end is really understandable, too. She wasn’t supposed to be dragged into the fight, but she was because of her acceptance of Geralt.
Sabrina - Capable, talented and ready for action. Regal and confident.
The Dryads - With Eithné in their front. They were impressive, willing to stop and listen, and showed amazing battle tactics.
Téa and Véa - They were wonderful fighters, intimidating and strong, and had a no-nonsense attitude. They also radiated confidence by the gallons. (If I was as confident as Jaskier I’d probably try to flirt with them, too tbh)
I just needed a list of awesome female characters here. If anyone wants to add to this, feel welcome.
I also want to address again how amazing the costume designers are because they managed to make absolutely all the cast look amazing and impressive without sexualizing anyone (at least without a good reason)

I just can't wrap my head around watching a show with as many badass female characters as the Witcher and stanning Blonde Henry Cavill and his donkey.
Seriously, those guys?
Unrealistic.

Y'know given all the sex scenes in netflix's Witcher I'm kinda surprised they cut the bit where he goes off to have group sex with actual dragon Borch Three Jackdaws along with Téa and Véa in a four person bathtub.

What makes s1e6 so heartbreaking for me is not just the cruelty of Geralt’s words, not just the way he looks directly into Jaskier’s eyes and points and snarls like he really meant what he said, not just how Jaskier’s voice gets all teary, not just his little “That’s not fair” like he could make Geralt see reason when all he could see in that moment was rage and pain, not just the way he waits a little after Geralt finishes his rant like he expects Geralt to immediately realize how wrong his words are, not just his little “See you around, Geralt” like he really didn’t expect the fight to last that long (as if, like all the other little pissy fights they’ve had, they would just find each other again, maybe even right on the way down the mountain, and everything would be alright again), not just all these.
What makes it so heartbreaking for me is how vulnerable Jaskier was right before this.
- After Borch, Téa, and Véa died, the whole “We could head to the coast, get away for a while” conversation (made me cry really). The way Jaskier’s voice shakes: he’s also grieving, but he tries to comfort Geralt, tries to cheer him up with that joke about proving himself a worthy travel companion.
- It’s the softest we’ve ever seen Jaskier, with his little wistful voice talking about how he’s just trying to figure out what pleases him. If there was 1 moment that we see the real Jaskier, if there’s 1 moment where Jaskier really shows Geralt how much he loves him, this is it. (After all, he did spend 20+ years of his very human, very mortal life following a grumpy white-haired Witcher around. Was there really any doubt what - or who - pleases him?) This is the moment Jaskier laid bare his heart.
(And then literally right after, Geralt goes to Yenn’s tent lol)
- And then during that conversation between Borch, Geralt, and Yenn, he’s just sitting a few feet behind, looking all nervous and fidgeting with his fingers, like he knows something bad is about to happen but can’t stop it. When Yenn storms away, he immediately gets up and shuffles closer, because he knows that Geralt is hurting. And he approaches Geralt with that “Hoo what a day…” in that little fake happy voice, trying to comfort Geralt, to cheer him up.
And that’s when the heartbreak happens, after Jaskier lets himself be more vulnerable than he had ever been, after he twice tried to offer comfort and STAYED when all the others left. That’s when Geralt breaks his heart.

For @themountainarchives prompt: dragons.
There’s been a glint in Jaskier’s eye since the moment they set foot in the Pensive Dragon.
There’s a sharpness to him, a steeliness like a finely honed blade, a focus and intensity that is at odds with his casual bearing. His demeanor is shifted somehow, here in the shadow of the mountain, like lava bubbling deep beneath the caldera of a volcano.
Geralt has noticed it before: A faint whiff of brimstone when Jaskier gets angry, a sibilant hissing which slips into his voice when he gives orders.
Very occasionally, when the sun has almost completed its daily pass below the horizon, when the last rays of warm rosy light spill across the forest and illuminate their camp, Geralt could swear he sees shimmering iridescence around Jaskier’s temples. But that’s just a trick of the twilight.
-
As they near the mountain, the scent grows stronger. Jaskier smells like the crisp, dry air before a forest fire, like the promise of impending flame. He leaves a trail of heavy, ashy scent in his wake.
-
Téa and Véa stay close to Jaskier, Geralt notices, even though they clearly think he’s an idiot. They exchange heavy glances behind his back which seem to communicate much, a seriousness to their looks despite the nonsense about flower picking that Jaskier is currently spouting.
Borch, too, says little but keeps Jaskier within his sight. “Sir Witcher,” he addresses Geralt, gently teasing. “Protector of dragons.”
-
Geralt has seen many strange creatures in his travels. Hideous beasts with kind hearts and fine minds, and twisted monsters that look like ordinary men. He has learned not to assume, and not to judge.
-
“We could head to the coast,” Jaskier suggests, voice quiet and distant, and when Geralt tries to picture that it calls to mind a red-hot sword quenched in water, the sizzle and hiss as steel is hardened, puffs of steam thrown into the air.
“That’s not...” His mind is clouded with the touch of flint to kindling and the cracking, popping sounds of an open fire. “It wouldn’t be safe.”
He sneaks a sideways glance at Jaskier, whose pupils have narrowed to dark vertical slits. Here, high above the clouds, he is something more. He radiates heat and the air around him crackles with static.
“My dear witcher.” Jaskier shakes his head. “If I wanted safety, I wouldn’t have chosen this life.”
“Why did you?” The question falls from his lips before he can stop it. After what must be hundreds of years of power and authority, why risk one’s life to sleep in the dirt with an outcast for the sake of a few songs? “No story is worth dying for.”
Jaskier turns to him, the red of the setting sun painting him with a glowing aura, shimmering scales now undeniably visible across his cheekbones, and he smiles ever so softly. “Depends on the story.”
