GIRLSOPP GIRLSOPP GIRLSOPP 🤥
Design Notes Below!!!
I think Usopp's creative heart would manifest in more textiles, colors, patterns, and textures in her wardrobe; therefore, I've got her all dolled up in different sashes and head-scarves and bandanas. Also, she makes her own earrings (and they double as emergency projectiles for her sling shot).
For her main fit, I wanted the vibe of the utilitarian overalls but with a fantasy archer fairy type twist. Idk the strappy corset look reminds me of the Tontattas somehow.
I also went with locs for her because my heart belongs to Jacob Romero Gibson from OPLA.
Oh!! And I designed her glasses!! I wanted to do something different from the canon goggles and I thought cat-eye sunglasses would fit her well.
Also, I intend to keep the names the same so she's Usopp BUT if I was fully committing to the bit, I'd change her name to Usanchina... maybe. LOL
Put in the replies who you want to see join girl piece next!! I'll make another poll if I get a few choices.
ALSO: If you're loving Girl Piece as much as I am, please please please check out ~Well Hello Ladies~ by @kooabreen on AO3. She's been writing the BEST genderbend one shots, they make me scream.

Rewatching Syrup Village arc and it's really hitting me how Usopp has never had anyone who was truly in his corner. The people in the village implicitly took care of him when his mom died, he didn't have to starve or beg and he considers them all loved ones, but they're tired of tolerating him and none of them really stop to actually have a talk with him. The Usopp pirates defend him a lot, but they're just kids and in the end he's really the one taking care of them. Plus they quickly abandon him once they don't look up to him anymore. Merry was never unkind to him before but he was willing to shoot him with very little context. And Kaya, well, they're obviously close friends and she cares about him on a deeper level than anyone else, but she doesn't really have the power to protect him in any way, and when it comes down to conflict she trusts Klahadore over Usopp. In daily life everything is fine, but when the other shoe drops Usopp very quickly finds himself completely alone.
So it makes it that much more meaningful that Luffy, Zoro, and Nami, three strangers more or less, take one look at him and his cause and decide they're going to fight alongside him. That they believe in him. They're the first people to ever truly stick with him at risk to themselves when things get hard, and that's so important.

Rereading Syrup village and I forgot what a huge part of Usopp's character is about being shamed and put down for the very things he's proud about. Things he has no control over, like class or who his family is. Being ostracized for these things even, and doubling down on said pride almost as a coping mechanism. And he has evey right to.
The things Kuro says about him are so cruel. And if nobody's gonna say it I will; there's really racist undertones to Kuro's words as well. And maybe it's not meant to be the actual in-universe reading, but it's easy to read into it at the very least symbolically. Like damn this guy sucks. I've said it before, but he really is the cruel, dishonest liar opposed to Usopp as the kind story-crafter. Usopp tells Kaya stories to make her feel better, Kuro tells her lies to control her. And because Kuro seems ashamed to be a failure and a pirate himself, he projects this onto Usopp, who is used to getting treated that way. Seeing him stand up for himself like this is something I miss so dearly.

"I'm only speaking the truth". What a piece of shit. He really is the wolf in sheep's clothing that the boy cried about.

THE ADVENTURES OF CORA AND LAW
Part 8
In Syrup village, on the other side of the island.
Law: "So you mean to tell me, that we just ran five kilometres for nothing?!"
Cora: Laying on the grass on his back, puffing. "Man, recovering from like a hundred gunshots really takes it out of you."
Usopp: "Wouldn't be the cigarettes you smoke?"
Cora: Mid drag from a just lit cigarette. "Huh?"
Law: "Focus on me long nose!"
Usopp: "That's Captain Long Nose"
Cora: "You would actually be best friends with this other kid we just met, he was like five, and the head chef. Snagi or something."
Law: Stomping his little feet. "Cora! Focus!"

Usopp’s standalone movie
Tumblr media
I believe it would be fantastic if Usopp had his own standalone movie. The movie could depict him saving the day or the crew temporarily separating from him. It would be great to explore his backstory from Syrup Village, potentially involving a relative of Kuro coming after him or Luffy. I think it's important to have a good soundtrack and cool effects.
Even though there is a risk that the movie may not do well, I am confident that people would watch it, despite the fact that Usopp has a polarizing perception among fans. This movie could make up for his lack of focus in the series, giving us a chance to see him in sniper mode and using Observation Haki. Fans would be interested in seeing this unexpected side of Usopp.
The movie could also touch upon the Water 7 arc and his insecurities, and we might even get a Yasopp flashback. It would be a refreshing change, as it wouldn't be focused on the Monster Trio and other One Piece characters, but rather on a deeply flawed character that people very very often criticize, despite being a member of the Mugiwara crew. I sincerely believe he could carry a movie alone, though I may be biased. The potential for this idea is huge, and it would likely generate a lot of interest on social media. Usopp fans would be so happy! I know I may be overly optimistic, but a fan can dream.

Sorry I'm gonna be ramping on the differences in the live action once again. This is where they just flopped so hard! It's crazy how they revamped this arc (in an actually cool way), but made Usopp a side character in his own arc!
You can see this stark contrast in the original. First off, Luffy and Zoro don't do ANYTHING and WOULDN'T have ever done anything if not for Usopp first giving his all to warn the village, being reduced to humiliation and tears for it, and STILL wanting to protect them. Usopp inspired them! And during the fight against the Black Cat Pirates, he commanded the situation! The others did as he said and moved after he moved. This example I have pictured here is when HE, despite being injured, still took command and directed the kids and Kaya away from the situation, saving them. Then we all know after this, he defeats Jango, saving Kaya's life and completely foiling Kuro's plan, and while Zoro got Usopp there, he stepped aside and just aided Usopp because he knew and believed that Usopp would win.
Luffy may have been the one to take down the big bad, but Usopp was the hero of this arc. They wouldn't have succeeded, or even begun, without Usopp. Usopp is INCREDIBLE and they screwed up conveying that in the live action!! and I'm mad about it! 😭

Reading the manga and man Zoro has just been ride and die for everyone since day one and not just Luffy. He literally takes a hit meant for the enemy when Usopp tried to back him up (since Zoro was fighting 2-1 with just one sword) because he didn’t want Usopp to draw the enemy’s attention to him and Nami. He has literally just met Usopp and he’s already doing so much

One Piece's most forgotten villain, and why he matters
One Piece has become, in my opinion, a genuine great work of literature of the 21st century - not in the sense that I want to hold it up against Nobel Prize winners and rank them, but in the sense that literature can contain both Very Serious Real Literature™ and adventure stories for the young at heart and those things can be great without interfering with each other.
That said, One Piece has had over 25 years to get rolling, and those 25 years have not been without roadbumps. Plenty of them, in fact.
One of the very early story arcs, Syrup Village, has at times rather scuffed art, poorly paced exposition and storytelling, and a villain so forgettable that not even a manga author who is notorious for bringing back every seemingly inconsequential side-character for a big payoff has bothered to remember him.
But in that story arc, when you read it through the context of everything that's come after, you can find the seeds being sown of all of One Piece's most important themes and ideas: the use and abuse of power on both the personal and systematic level, warnings against the dangers of trusting those who cloak themselves in Respectability, and the conflict between manufactured history that serves the powerful and true history that empowers the weak.
Also, there's genuinely fantastic use of character design as a storytelling feature. Let's discuss.

Sorry to leave you so soon, but I know you'll be fine: "My brave little boy" 💝
My favorite shot 🥰
Tumblr media
Mother & son bond: Banchina & Usopp
Usopp inherited all the good genes from her, cause she's beautiful, it's sad how things went but I'm sure she's watching his little boy going towards his dream 🥲 (might have cried two times while making this btw, and will cry more with other audio I'm working on)
