I used to scare my ex into thinking I’m mad at him when I would do this because I’m one of those writers that sometimes mimes or mouths what the characters are doing to get a solid feel off how to describe it.

He eventually learned to ask “are you mad at me or the people in your head? 😆

Sometimes I have long, convoluted multi-act daydreams that I mull over for weeks at a time, and the only thing that stops me from calling them 'writing projects' is uncharacteristic realism about whether I will ever write them down

No cause as someone who has pretty bad escapism & maladaptive daydreaming issues, your so right

Reading and daydreaming and consuming way to much media are SYMPTOMS, not the problem itself. Reading and daydreaming and shoving yourself into hobbies are tools that many people use for escapism, but by reading and daydreaming and shoving yourself into hobbies you are not automatically struggling with escapism.

Moral of the story is if someone on tiktok says you have mental problems treat it like you would when google says you have cancer because of a sore throat

We have GOT to stop pathologizing the joy out of life.

Saw someone claim that if you read a lot as a child, you were disassociating. No, you were reading. Because reading is fun.

"I have a problem with maladaptive daydreaming." It's only maladaptive if it negatively impacts your ability to function in the real world. Laughing at a joke you made in your head isn't doing that.

"You seem to do a lot if creative projects. What are you escaping?" I'm escaping this conversation.

Like what is the end goal? Because so far, all this has done has made it harder to enjoy my hobbies because you're turning a mindless process into something I gotta think about.

I can't fathom the fact that some people watch a movie, show or read a book they like and they just go: "I liked it :)" and that's it....girl how?? Whenever I like a movie, tv show, book or musical I need to inhale that piece of media like it's air, I need to self insert myself in it and create an elaborate plot line for my character in it, then I listen to music that reminds me of the piece of media and think of it 24/7, while obsessively rewatching scenes and analyzing every bit of it till I notice details nobody has seen, finally, I try to convince people to watch it with me so that I can experience it for the first time through them. Then my obsession dies and I feel empty until the next one comes along..... and you're telling me people can enjoy something and just...go to sleep and not think of it again????
