Thimbletack

A little study of Tony DiTerlizzi's design for Thimbletack, from Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You. I reread Spiderwick Chronicles last winter, and while the books are a lot shorter than I remember from when I was little, they're still so delightful to read, and DiTerlizzi's artwork is simply gorgeous - he's probably largely responsible for my love of field guides and the like.

Anyways, I'm really happy with this one, especially for only taking 30-40 minutes. I thought his eyes were a little weird at first, but I think they're growing on me :)

How It Feels To Stomp In Platforms

Got a new sketchbook for Christmas, it's a cute little leather journal. Been missing my platforms (I left them in my dorm over break) so I drew a little something about that. When I stomp while I'm wearing them I feel like a kaiju!!

Shading x Outfit

I wish I’d made this one bigger and filled up the page a little more.  That said, I think I did hit the main goal for this piece - the shadows on the skirt around her leg look really good to me! 

Context: This week's assignment was to take elements from last weeks Lexicon assignment, and combine them into new forms. I'm dubbing this process Lexicon Smash. There's also a couple where we had to borrow an element from a classmate - I'll get to that soon. Also, we had to tone half of them to a darker color to begin with, so some have strange backgrounds.

Dude’s proper introduction. He’s an odd duck. When I was making it I felt like some bits were a bit rushed, but I actually feel like this is an okay level of detail for a storyboard. I should make this an actual page soon.

Reference from Rebel Urban Active Life Mini Skateboard - Pickles Spicy & Delicious on eBay

Another of the pre-toned pieces - this used pigment from buckthorn berries. They produced a rather nice purple - I’d like to try and actually boil down some ink from them some time.  I do wish I’d put the “zesty” on the left rather than the right, since it reads a little funny, but I don’t mind it.
