❤️ thank you for all the love since i started drawing these two emotionally stunted chefs. ❤️ i gotta go on an indefinite hiatus but all your kind comments and messages have meant so much to me and honestly, have encouraged me to be creative again after a long period where i simply wasn't. i really can't thank you all enough!
people are talking about blowing kisses being a song specifically for the show and i want to join in! obviously, the whole song is very sydcarmy coded and i'm intrigued by them playing it over a montage of those two characters exclusively. but it was the singer's quote about the song that stood out to me:
"Language can be so futile; I always loathe explaining myself, and yet my love for you makes me want to try, my hands gesturing in endless loop." ― Jennifer Castle
didn't she say she wrote the song after watching season 2 and falling in love with it? idk if this has anything to do with anything, but i found it really sweet.
Carmy doesn’t believe he deserves love, that’s why he’s so hell-bent on doing things for Syd like getting the Michelin star, or giving her a partnership agreement, or drawing her that beautiful thoughtful chaos menu. He doesn’t think he has anything to offer her beyond that.
But once he realizes that Syd doesn’t really need or require those things, that she actually wants his passion and creativity, he’s going to open up. She wants his amusement and enjoyment.
Syd will probably freak out if he starts to give her this kind of attention at first because she is a minimizer. Carny wants to know her and she doesn’t really let him in all the way. He tries to talk to her about stuff but she prefers the focus to be on him.
So she ends up not feeling or being seen but wants to be understood and communication doesn’t work that way. They can finish each other’s sentences about a dish but he pretty consistently wants to work on an emotional thing that’s blocking them (usually his own) and she disengages. She doesn’t want to be the reason it fails, she admits to him already she fucks things up.
Even when C shows up you know she’s not happy about it but she ends up encouraging him to figure out his status with her. Because she subliminally (or not) would like him to do the same with her. She also doesn’t think Carmy needs her outside of her role at the restaurant.
That’s why Carmy asking her to the Ever funeral dinner is such a big deal because he was making a big step and probably something that felt risky for him trying to go there.
I don't want to see Luca anywhere near Sydney in season 4.
If sydcarmy is happening, I don't want no romantic or platonic (pft) storyline with Luca for Syd.
For one, it makes no sense to spend time on a relationship that's going to end. And highkey, I especially wouldn't like if a romance happened only for there to be parallels to Carmen, or Luca is presented as a good viable option for Syd, only for her to get with Carmen anyway.
At this point, I just want the show to give sydcarmy or get the hell away lol. I'm over the multi-channel gaslighting of it not being there in the show and the parallels that many hope are actually going to mean something by the time the show ends.
Syd, Marcus, Ebra, Tina, Gary (and Manny and Angel that won't be getting any screen time atp) haven't got the time I think they deserve (Syd in particular, for the second main character where tf was she in S3? S2 I understand, but for real wtf was that?). That time would be better spent on them rather than a short-lived, reprieve-centred fling for Syd imo.
I wrote a post a while ago regarding sydcarmy after S3 and I still more or less agree with what I said, but in terms of plot, if Sydney is going to struggle along with Carmen when she chooses to stay at the bear, that's perfectly fine. But I don't want anymore ambiguity, "up to interpretation" bs when it comes to them. At least give me the opportunity to wave a satisfied fist in the air with blatant, confirmed romance between them at least, so I can say "the sydcarmy shippers told yall so", even if I don't particularly want it the same way.
This has been mentioned a few times but I wanted a compilation of songs and the importance of it in the show.
Senior, the producer concurred. “...But for us, music is part of the world of the show, and it almost would feel disingenuous to be dropping songs that we couldn’t relate to or that didn’t feel like they lived in this world, and only because they were popular for a different reason.”
I find the songs placed in the Carmy-Claire-Syd interesting which is why I put it in the post:
sydcarmy doesn't have to be endgame nor will it not being endgame ruin the bear (should we get another season), but im not kidding when i say people arguing vehemently against it and swearing up and down that sydney and carmy have zero chemistry is rooted in antiblackness.
if syd and claire were to swap places in the show, i know i wouldn't see as much pushback and discourse surrounding her (claire's) potential relationship with carmy. people have shipped other non-confirmed couples for far less.
So I started following Ayo Edebiri on Letterboxd, right? (Because let’s face it. We all badly wanna be friends with her and wish her coolness would rub off on us so we settle for something parasocial.) And ever since I saw her log this movie I could not stop thinking if she’s watching this to get back in the zone for Syd or not:
Like okay… It is a high-rated 2023 film so it could just be that. But the coincidence of her watching it as The Bear is in the middle of pre-production can’t go unnoticed. She never gave it a rating so is this for character study? Also, isn’t it reported Ms. Edebiri is directing a few episodes for Season 3?
But then… SydCarmys you might wanna stay for this… I don’t wanna feed into delusions but…
The plot???
Well whatever this is… I must say that this movie does seem intriguing on its own. Might give it a watch since I do study Communication Arts and it’s a high-rated film.
