New York'taki Ortodoks Yahudi Seçmenlerin Seçim Yarışındaki Rolü
New York’taki Sıkı Yarışlar ve Ortodoks Yahudi Seçmenlerin Rolü New York’un temsilcisi Pat Ryan, ülkenin en zorlu seçim mücadelelerinden birine kilitlenmiş durumda. Bu bağlamda, Demokrat vekilin, seçim bölgesinin oldukça dışında, Hasidik hahamlarla bir araya gelmek üzere saatlerce yol kat etmesi oldukça dikkat çekici oldu. Ryan’ın sonraki gün, komşu bir bölgede zor günler geçiren Cumhuriyetçi…

"It's the Democrats' fault that they lose elections, because if they had better positions (read: if they perfectly aligned with my positions) they would win easily!"
Damn, that's crazy that the fully 40% of the country who are voting for a party running on a campaign to enact pogroms on immigrants, criminalize queerness, crash the economy, decimate worker rights, and strip bodily autonomy from pretty much everyone hold absolutely no culpability in that party getting elected. I guess it's the fault of the party that routinely wins the popular vote by a landslide and only loses the general because of an archaic system that means only 6 states get their votes counted!
#internet leftist voice: if the democrats stopped trying to target swing voters in those six states they would win easily! are they stupid?#us politics

FUCKING STOP IT
I've been seeing an influx of posts trying to tell you not to vote Harris. Please, for the love of fuck, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM. If you are making these posts out of some sense of morality or honor, PLEASE STOP.
Look, I get it. I live in the heart of the empire. It sickens me to my core to see the US funding genocide... again.
You Will Not Be Able To Stop It. You absolutely will never again be able to even try to stop it if Trump wins.
THERE IS ONLY ONE FEASIBLE OPTION AGAINST TRUMP, AND THAT IS HARRIS.
Everyone talking about "Blue MAGA" this and "They're the leopards-eating-faces party too" that... You're forgetting something.
Under Trump, everyone who wants positive change? Everyone who wants to put up a fight and try to change the empire?
They'll all go down swinging.
When everyone who's willing to fight goes down swinging, who will be left to fight?
If Trump wins, I and many others, many of whom will have been community organizers, will have to leave the country for our own safety. Censorship laws will be put in place regardless of "free speech" that will allow Trump and his ilk to have us thrown in prison forever, or just killed right away.
If Trump wins, so do all genocidal states.
A win for Trump is a loss for the world.
Accelerationism hurts more people than it helps.
The "revolution" will die before it can begin under Trump.
Don't help him win by pulling votes away from the only candidate for presidency with a chance against him.
#7#rant#us politics#trump#harris#VOTE#FUCKING VOTE#if we all go down swinging there will be nobody left to fight#stop turning into single-issue voters. that's for conservatives.#I'm so fucking tired

Help Get the Vote Out - US
Sending postcards to encourage registered voters to vote in the upcoming election is an easy way you can help get the vote out from home. I’ve done this through two different organizations: Postcards to Voters and Postcards to Swing States.
With this group, you:
Purchase your own postcards.
Purchase stamps.
Can choose the to send smaller amounts of postcards (e.g, 10).
With this group, you:
Will receive free postcards from the organization.
Purchase stamps.
Send larger amounts of postcards (from what I’ve seen, the minimum is 200, but you can write them over time or get some folks to help you).
Stamps
Buy postcard stamps, not first class stamps - they’re cheaper!

I didn't want to believe that the majority would rather a racist become president over a woman but here we are, i couldn't sleep either so I've been trying to calm down
Calm is a state I unfortunately won’t be able to reach I’ve at the moment come to a sort of sleep deprived numbness and that is where I’ll stay…
#i for one am not shocked tbh a little surprised about how red certain states went#but not shocked this isn’t jaw dropping#even the third party voters#most of the time even in swing states it wasn’t enough to swing it back#i am just numb and scared#nia.txt

It seems that rather than adapt to a diversifying American, Republicans will cheat to obtain or retain power. Their campaign of suppression, intimidation, and voter purges is at an all time record. SCOTUS and many in the Republican Party seem to forget that this is OUR country. That it’s WE the people. Do not let the forces of old and evil try to tell you otherwise. Make sure your registration is current and valid and let’s show these assholes who this country belongs to. From the revoking justices on the Supreme Court to the obstructionist in the house. This nonsense has gone on long enough! We are ashamed of the tactics some political figures resort to but. We are proud to be Americas! We will not be silenced. We are the people! 🇺🇸

I said live/vote because some people are registered to vote in one place but are not living there for various reasons such as being military posted abroad.
I’m from a deep blue/red state, why should I vote?
I live in Massachusetts, my state will undoubtedly go blue for Harris and re-elect Senator Warren. Still, I will happily vote, not only to show my support for Harris and Warren, but also because there is so much more on your ballot and it’s just as important as the presidential election. You should vote because:
1) The House of Representatives is up for reelection every 2 years. While gerrymandering helps the GOP gain a majority, there are still many districts where they could flip blue if more left leaning voters turned out. In order for Harris to implement many of her promises, she needs a Democratic House to pass them.
2) 1/3 if all Senate seats are up for reelection. Once again, Harris needs a Democratic Senate to pass the bills with her plans in them.
3) Every state has local elections where maybe you won’t influence congress or the presidency, but you can still help elect progressive local candidates. In fact, these are some of the most important races. They pass laws that directly affect you, and for things like Secretary of State, they handle all elections. If your state is gerrymandered to hell and back, a progressive Secretary of State would be one way to combat voter suppression by the GOP.
4) Every state has ballot questions that directly impact your lives. Right now, 10 states have abortion questions on the ballot: (AZ, NV, CO, MD, NY, FL, MO, MT, NE, & SD) Ohio has a referendum that could end gerrymandering. They are one of the direct ways you can impact life in your state.
5) Last, but not least, even if you’re not in a swing state, every single vote still counts towards a popular vote. While it doesn’t decide the election, Trump is such a self absorbed ass that a huge popular vote against him will hurt just as much as losing the election via the electoral college. Vote to bruise is massive ego.
Vote.org is a wonderful site that can help you register, check that you are registered (been a lot of voter purges lately), see what’s on your ballot and more. Remember, if your vote didn’t matter, then the GOP wouldn’t be trying so hard to stop you from voting!

US Tumblrians, this is our time to shine! Break out your fine-tip markers and your favorite playlists and beverage of choice and get ready to save democracy-- from your home! If you are under 18, you can still participate!
These postcards have been found to increase voter turnout by about 1.3% which is actually A Big F-ing Deal when you consider the margin of victory in swing states.
States getting postcards (drum roll...): Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin!
In many of these states, there are bills to protect access to reproductive health AS WELL AS the presidential and Senate elections.
You are sent a list of addresses and three templated messages to choose from. You order as few as 200 postcards and the mail date is in October. They also send you the state themed postcards and there are always a few extras for mistakes and keepsakes. I keep a card from every campaign I write for (assuming I have one) in the same album I keep all my holiday photo cards.
Save democracy! Use your voice! You can include children in this and if you have issues with handwriting and the financial leeway, you can simply donate to the organization. If all you can do is reblog this post, that counts too (and if you're not from the US but you still want to reblog this, thanks!)
I'd love to see this post go big, so am tagging some good friends because that's the way we make a difference-- TOGETHER!
Tagging @tessa-quayle @fericita-s @mercurygray @tortoisesshells @asteraceae-blue @amarguerite @aquitainequeen @oldshrewsburyian @artielu @iamstartraveller776 @theburnbarreljester @orlissa and anyone else who is willing!

Well, I *almost* ruined belated in-law Thanksgiving.
Some context- I am a teacher. My sister in law is a teacher. My mother in law was a teacher. My sister in law's sister in law (my husband's sister's husband's sister) is a teacher.
And my sister in law's mother in law *votes Republican.* I know this. We generally avoid the subject at family gatherings. We are not so close that she feels comfortable breaching Southern Hospitality protocols to make it an issue. We get by.
But here's the thing. Karen (her name really is Karen) asks me how the school year is going. Not great, I inform her. The teacher shortage has been somewhat disastrous at my district (some of which is national and state factors, some of which could have been mitigated at a local level and werent.)
And she's like "they've got to do something to help yall. They need to pay you better or something."
But Karen, I explain, *they*, the people in charge *cough*, don't WANT to help. This is what they want. It's sabotage. Public education isn't profitable. They want to make it awful for us so they can push for vouchers and funnel money into for-profit private schools.
But, she says, what will happen to the kids who can't go to private schools? Who private schools won't take? (I credit her daughter for this excellent question. Good job, Kendra. I see you trying to de-program your mom. It's working)
*They* don't care about *those* kids, Karen, I say gently. *They* don't want *those* kids to be able to read. To grow up and *vote* because kids from *those* families tend to not vote for Greg Abbott. *They* know that college educated voters vote more blue. It's sabotage.
I see her get quiet. I wonder if she'll push back now that I've named names, said the party, made it explicitly political. There is a tense moment where I can see her respect and love for her daughter and public Ed and education in general suddenly bucking against a lifetime of voting red in Texas. It didn't used to be this way. Republicans didn't always hate education, at least not so directly and openly. I wonder if this is the time when I went just a touch too far and now Thanksgiving is going to get real awkward real fast, because my in laws are VERY good at keeping the drama away from family gatherings like this and I may have just kicked a hornets nest a little too hard.
She stays quiet.
My mother in law says it's time for pie.
We eat pie. Karen made chocolate mousse, and it's wonderful.
#theres no moral to this story#i just keep thinking about this interaction#and wonder how many red voters are like karen#upset about the outcome of policies that were made by politicians they voted for without realizing it#sure that their people will try to fix this problem but not seeing that their people caused it on purpose#will it swing her blue? i doubt it#but I can hope

Marginal thinking is hard. So much political coverage gets hung up thinking about the typical voter for a party, rather than the marginal voter. Or thinking about whether the majority of a demographic group will flip, rather than whether the distribution of support will change.
An effect that persuades 1% of voters matters hugely. But it still feels like "no one" is changing their mind; in an average waiting room no one will!
Trump isn't going to "win the Black vote" in 2024, and various people will point this out; but the difference between getting 10% and getting 20% is enormous.
Large-scale democracy just isn't very intuitive!
