Why I Donated Over 100lbs of Clothing via ThredUp - #thredUPambassador

recently, i went through a major closet overhaul! this overhaul led to a donation of well-over 100lbs of clothing through thredup. (i’m still going too!) this decision wasn’t just about decluttering—it represented a shift in my mindset, style, and values. here’s why i felt inspired to take this step.

1. EMBRACING MY BODY’S EVOLUTION

over the past year, i’ve focused on working out and prioritizing my physical and mental well-being. this journey has helped me build confidence in my body and embrace its natural changes. as a result, i no longer felt the need to hold onto clothing that didn’t fit—even if they were too small because a past version of me would have wanted to try to fit into them again. letting go of these pieces felt freeing, as if i was finally honoring the version of myself i am today rather than clinging to the past.

2. STEERING AWAY FROM FAST FASHION

another key reason for my donation was my growing awareness of the impact of fast fashion. many of the items i gave away came from brands that don’t align with my values anymore; some fast fashion and some not. being more specific, i said goodbye to many styles by shein, zaful, fashionnova, and more. by donating them, i hoped to give these pieces a second life with someone who will appreciate them while also reducing waste.

3. EVOLVING PERSONAL STYLE

as we grow, our interests and styles evolve. i’ve been gravitating towards different styles that resonate with my current style goals. donating my old wardrobe allowed me to make space for this transition, both physically and mentally.

THE PROCESS WITH THREDUP

donating through thredup was incredibly simple and sustainable. i ordered a clean out kit - my preference was to use my own boxes instead of waiting for a clean out bag to arrive. i then packed my clothes, and sent them off with ease. they take care of sorting and processing the items, ensuring that wearable pieces find new homes and a flat-fee goes to the cause you select.

girls, inc. is an organization that empowers young women to be strong, smart, and bold. i’m passionate about supporting initiatives that uplift and inspire girls to chase their dreams and feel confident in their own skin. knowing that my donation would contribute to this mission made the process even more meaningful.
